Our first visit here wasn't so bad. The food was hot, came quickly, and the service was great. I knocked off two stars for cleanliness, or lack thereof. The restaurant looks like it's never cleaned. Sticky table. Cloudy glassware. While the food and service were good, I couldn't help but wonder about the kitchen conditions. I was in Vacaville with a friend and read the reviews on yelp and decided to have dinner at this place. Not disappointed........ The service and food is very good......Hot and Sour soup was very good as the flavors of hot and sour was present and balanced. Not too much of one or the other. I know that it's a lot easier to formulate a complaint for a bad restaurant than it is to give props to a great restaurant, but for a while now I have really felt the need to spread the good word about Wah Shine. This is hands down, the best Chinese food I have gotten in the Bay Area. There is pretty much not a single great restaurant in the Fairfield/Vacaville area, aside from this place. Everything about the experience is great. The servers are polite and accommodating. The food is hot, delicious, and the portions are hearty. The prices are almost at fast-food price points (My wife and I eat lunch here and the bill is $12). Personally, I love the Chicken w/ Hot Garlic Sauce with fried rice. Hits the spot every single time and never lets me down. Try Wah Shine! Don't be discouraged if you don't see anybody eating inside, apparently, this is a little known treasure. $45.00 right down the toilet, along with the crappy food that Wah Shine tries to pass off as Chinese! I searched across the web for Chinese food delivery in Vacaville, and unfortunately for me, Wah Shine turned up on yelp with outstanding reviews. I read every single review, and strangely enough, over the past year, Wah Shine has really SHINED. I said to myself "all of these upstanding yelpers couldn't possibly be wrong, so let's order up some Chinese food for dinner." I had the special fried rice (chicken, beef and shrimp), special chow mien (chicken, beef and shrimp), kung pao chicken (extra spicy) and mongolian beef (extra spicy). The total for those four dishes came to $45.00, including delivery fees and tip for the driver; he was prompt by the way. After one bite of each dish, I realized that something was very wrong. At first, the 4-star and 5-star reviews began to flash before my eyes, and my stomach dropped as it dawned on me that I made a grave mistake in trusting my fellow yelpers. The so-called outstanding yelp ratings were not independent, nor were they honest. How those ratings made it to the Wah Shine profile page on yelp is beyond me, but that's besides the point. I know for certain that yelpers are much more savvy than that. I am a reasonable person, so I continued to eat the food before me, carefully tasting every morsel as I went. It did not take more than two more bites for me to determine how downright horrendous it was. I nearly ran to the toilet to puke it out...not like that, but to make myself puke it out because of how disgusting it was. ALL of the food went straight into the bin, and I ordered up pizza delivery instead. For those yelpers who want an independent and honest review of Wah Shine, please consider how you will not find that by reading the curiously highly rated yelp reviews posted on the Wah Shine page. Not only is the food absolutely the best in Vacaville, but we just called in our order ten minutes before closing without any hassle. I don't eat chow mein from most places because it's usually no good, but I will here! All their soups are fantastic. If you get a chance come and eat their lunch offerings. They did forget about my order but was able to prepare them with only about a 15min wait and subtracted $20 off my bill without me even having to complain about the issue, so that's good service to me. Mark this as another "as good as it gets" bc this place has it all. I've avoided this place probably bc of the name (which doesn't really make sense, I know). I highly recommend the salt & pepper shrimp- mmmm it was sooo perfect. We also had the shrimp fried rice & the asparagus shrimp. We have eaten in the restaurant a number of times, however, being local, we usually order delivery. I can say that their food is always wonderful and delicious. This is a Chinese place that I recently discovered around town. Their service was really good especially compared to a lot of Chinese restaurants. They always checked on our waters and made sure we didn't need anything else. We ordered their wonton noodle soup which was good, a seafood hot plate I believe is what it was called, and that was just okay, I could have done without. We also ordered their Hong Kong style noodles which were good and their Kung Pao chicken which was good. Yelp you've let me down again. 0/2 now in the Chinese Food department in the Fairfield/Vacaville area on reviews we relied on Yelp for. Yen King had overpriced, bland food with lacking customer service. Then there was today's experience. I won't blame Yelp for Happy Garden over in the Green Valley area, we were just hoping the experience would be good there but it wasn't exactly rated high on Yelp so you're off the hook there. My wife and I really wanted to like Wah Shine. It's within delivery distance and is conveniently located. The prices were fair. The food though? I'm not even going to give it to my dogs (it's going in the trash). Sometimes I feel reviews on Yelp can be outlandish and over the top, but another reviewer here pegged it. The food is worse than the cafeteria Chinese-ish food I used to get when in College. I look at some of the good reviews for this place and many of them are from accounts that have low post counts and yet somehow this wasn't filtered out by Yelps system? The food made us nauseated. It has no flavor and the meat is nasty. I bit into something in the Lemon Chicken that felt like a rubbery piece of bone. Mind you the chicken was dry and had no flavor. The Orange Chicken tasted like it had been dipped in Cool Aid and was way too sweet. Same for the sauce that goes on the Lemon Chicken. The broccoli was tough and the chicken was strung together with flubbery pieces of fat. I've literally had better Chinese Food from the frozen do-it-yourself meals in the frozen section of grocery stores. Mind you I don't believe I'm that picky with Chinese Food (I enjoy freezer section Chinese Food so the bar isn't exactly high). In Chico we found a few places we really enjoyed the food at. The selection in this area absolutely sucks though through three places we've gone to. I'm starting to wonder if some of the reviews are bloated with higher reviews (ones that aren't by fake Yelpers promoting a vested interest in the company) because the competition can't even beat frozen food so maybe this is why everyone has lowered expectations? read more

I've been coming to Wah Shine for over 20 years, and I have to say, each time we visit or order take out, I am disappointed with the flavor & quality of the food. At one time, their potstickers were the best in the county! Our recent experience was not so good. The dumplings were nicely crisped, but overly doughy & lacked flavor. The Mongolian beef was very, very bland. The meat, while tender, was flavorless & swam in a sea of slivered white & julienned green onions. I'm going to start out by saying I love Asian food, but Wah Shine is by far the best Asian food I've had. My Dad brought me here Because he new my love for the food, and through out my travels in this country also I lived in Seattle for Some years nothing ever compared. When I lived in Vacaville it was great because they deliver. Now my husband and I live out of town and wish they would deliver. We bring everyone and tell everyone to try them. Every time my husband and I visit we feel so welcomed and treated with such respect from all employees. We always order the dinner for 2 special which is extremely affordable and consist of tea, two shrimp roll, two chicken wraps, sizzling shrimp rice soup (to die for) fried rice or steamed riced and two entree's. (They used to serve fried won tons w/ sweet n sour sauce which were included but soooome ooone complained that they didnt like them, but they are great!!!) Its enough to feed an army, we literally have to find room on the table for all that food. Its hard to get my husband to eat left overs but we always fight over who gets Wah Shine left overs. :) read more

The Worst ever. I have been coming to this place since I was a kid in the 1970's and in the last couple of years it has gotten worse ever time I have eaten here. Last night I ordered Velvet Chicken, Oyster Beef and pork fried rice to go. $25- bucks. We tossed the two main dishes in the garbage it was that bad. The pork fried rice was a 2.5 out of 5 and we ate it as we were hungry. My prior last 3 attempts to eat here were almost as bad and I have kept given them chances thinking it was an off night. I will no longer eat here I am sad to say as we have enjoyed this place for many years.
