The service is something short of terrible. After not letting us make a reservations (told we couldn't because we were a party of two) we were told to just come in because it was not busy. Once we got there they said we couldn't sit on the patio because they had reservations. This was disheartening since we went to sit on the patio and enjoy the beautiful evening but- OK fine- they must be busy. We (finally) got sat in the garden room which was freezing cold despite the doors were open and it was nearly 70 outside. When we sat we noticed that there were not even 1/8 of the tables on the patio filled. Within the 45 minutes we were there, 5 tables of 2 were sat outside and the other tables remained unoccupied. When we asked about this they said, "you should have made a reservation." When I told her we had tried but been told we couldn't do that with only two her response was, "I don't know what to tell you, I didn't answer the phone" and walked away. We rushed through dinner to be done with it and go get dessert at a place that we were allowed to sit outside. The time before we asked the waitress to explain the Wahoo dish (the house signature dish!) and she said "Uh, it's white. I don't really know- I'm new." and then proceeded to not ask someone "who knew" what was it in. As my Grandma would say, "The service is the pitts." Wahoo! was obviously ahead of its time with the exclamation point inserted midway through the restaurant name. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself now seems a little bit behind the times. To be sure, the setting is still beautiful: the interior warm and romantic, the covered patio summer-y and inviting. But the food just doesn't have that extra pop that most restaurants at the same price point do. My mountain trout was fine, my peas were fine, the calamari we started with was fine, but nothing blew me away or made me exclaim "I would order that again!" Though, other items on the menu did look promising, and I definitely would not be opposed to coming back to explore the menu a bit more till I find that special something that wows me. read more

Food: After reading the may reviews I must concur, Wahoo is overrated. My dining club " Dining Divas" and I ate there yesterday and we were unimpressed. We sampled a good portion of the menu and nothing really stood out except the calamari...and the corn which were excellent. The polenta with goat cheese and mushrooms sounded delicious but fell flat on taste. The shrimp and grits were just ok ..but nothing spectacular. The trout was bland. The salmon was noted as being pretty basic but the mustard greens were pretty good. All and all this is not a place that any of us would try again. Service: Our waiter was nice and the hostess was really cool about moving us from a table outside to an indoor table that was a little warmer. Although it took quite a while for us to receive our meals ( it was a slow night), Ralph (waiter) was very accommodating and attentive to our needs. To end on a positive note the space is great and totally I understand why someone would have a wedding in the gardens. I also love the fact that parking is free always a plus in my book. read more

Someone said that for the price point the food is acceptable, but what's so wrong about that? There are so many places that fail to hit that mark, a mark that Wahoo hits effortlessly. Normally, Wahoo would be just above my price range, but we landed a gift certificate from Half Off Depot and decided to walk on up the other night. We took a friend up there and shared some calamari, had their complimentary bread, and tucked in for dinner! My husband and our friend both had the parmesan chicken with mac and cheese and peas, and I had the Ahi tuna with mashed potatoes and wakame salad. The chicken was fantastic, perfectly cooked and portioned, and the mac and cheese was pretty darn good-- we're conditioned to the mac and cheese at Palate which is rich and creamy and has spoiled us to death, but I wouldn't stick my nose up at Wahoo's given the choice. It's a different kind, not thick and creamy, but still has layers of flavor that sneak up on you. I didn't try the peas, they're not really my thing, but my husband (who loves them) really enjoyed them. My Ahi was cooked perfectly, and served beautifully! I almost took a picture of it, all laid out to present layers of a meal and a little taste of sauce with every bite. The wakame was good, but it's hard to go wrong with that, though the mashed potatoes left a little zing to be desired. I'm a fan of bold potatoes, and I got confused about something and thought they were going to have wasabi in them (which would have been perfect). All in all, we had a very nice meal-- we left satisfied, but not over full, pleased with our very nice service, and left with the feeling of a thoroughly pleasant dining experience. Wahoo! That little store front holds some treasures inside, you owe it to yourself to check it out. And, I know you've driven past this place. The location is a little odd, being located at the end of a stand alone old strip mall next to an abandoned mechanic garage....park in the back and head on in! The size of this place is deceiving...it's much bigger than you imagine. The main dining room is not very wide but it is very long. Then, as you keep going back, you find the 'other' areas. This includes a huge covered patio and then another, uncovered garden style patio area. Holy crap, it's a lot bigger than you thought initially. (Show-er, not a grow-er?) I was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner so the menu was limited and arranged for us. I had the caprese app, the penne pasta and bread pudding for dinner. Food was very good and flavorful, portions were a little on the skinny side but I understand considering the circumstances. I had only one issue with the meal....the 'penne' was actually spaghetti. I know what penne noodles look like and spaghetti is not even close. I guess they ran out or something but i did not get what I was expecting. The bread pudding was freakin' outstanding! Service was spot on, even for a table of 25 people. They had 2 people working and the rest of the restaurant was not that busy but they still did a kick ass job! My partner and I visited Wahoo Grill for the first time for Brunch on Sunday. We did not have to wait long - maybe 10 minutes. Service was average. The patio/wildlife area was bright, lively, and fun. It was not very crowded on our visit; but I could see how a crowded dinner area would negatively impact the experience. I ordered the Mahi Mahi with Grits& Sausage - $12. It lacked flavor. I would NOT recommend this dish. My partner had the brunch buffet - $18; and was very happy with the selection. Items were fresh and full of flavor. Parking is available on the street next to the restaurant; for those who dislike valet parking; or having to pay for parking. I have gone to this restaurant twice. Once for dinner and another for a late lunch. I will give you a run down of food we had on both visits, service and decor. APPS - fish stew - I did not care for it much until I added a hot sauce packet that I happened to have from lunch in my bag. Wow, that added great flavor that was missing. whatever was in it was a little rubbery. - scallops wrapped in maple bacon - AMAZING!!!!!!!SUCCULENT! -calamari - pretty darn good DINNER - a "pasta feature" - ravioli with some sort of seafood inside (can not remember name) did not like. flavor was just not hitting it. - Wahoo dinner - again nothing special and a little dry -Grilled tenderloin sandwich - ok - -Salmon BLT - ok DESSERTS -bliss cake - AWESOME! -blackberry cobbler - tasty but gritty. -bread pudding - nothing special, could have done without it. SERVICE We had pretty good service. I have never had so much water served to me in all my life! On both occasions! The first time was packed for dinner and the service was still good. The second was for late lunch and not as busy and even better service. DECOR The decor was nice. Best feature was the back indoor and outdoor patio, which I did not even know about until my second visit. Would I go back? Probably for appetizers and dessert. I enjoy Sunday brunch but to me charging $30 for brunch and you don't have crab legs is excessive they need to lower the price and add one thing (while taking away something) weekly to keep the desire to come back. That's the only reason I am giving them a 4 and not a 5. I have been three times once with a friends for brunch, once for dinner it was good and once I reserved a room for my wife's bday celebration. So I revisited the Wahoo Grill last weekend for a friend's birthday dinner. It was very classy and the management went out of their way to take care of us whilst we waited for the bday girl to arrive. The service was superb. Unfortunately I am downgrading my original rating because I ordered my favorite, the shrimp and grits, and it was disappointing. The shrimp did not have much flavor and tasted like it wasn't very fresh. Perhaps because it was made for the party and was mass cooked? I don't know. It was a far, far cry from my first visit. I'm not from ATL, so I'm looking for spots that can eventually become my regular stomping grounds. I may give Wahoo another chance, but I won't be planning any parties there. My fellow party-goers complained that their meals were "less than" as well - lacking flavor, lukewarm, and bland. read more

We decided to hit up this place as we had a 50% off Scoutmob coupon. The drive from Buckhead was somewhat painful but the place was pretty cool. We sat in the patio area that is somewhat covered and a little cooler than just sitting outside. The setting and the whole vibe is pretty cool. We went for a really late (3:30PM) lunch so there weren't too many people there, but it's not hard to imagine that this place can be a great place to hang out for dinner and/or normally timed lunch. As far as food... The bread was pretty damn good. As was the garlic butter that came with it. Pretty nice selection of drinks that showed some creativity. For appetizer we got the calimari. It was very nicely flavored but the calimari itself was on the chewy side. I'm hard to please on my Calimari... For my entree I got the Hawaiian Ahi Tuna (which on my trips to Hawaii I probably consumed 10LB of Ahi Tuna). This was seared Tuna. With a very interesting sauce, small portion of seaweed salad and mashed potatoes. All in all it was good. I like my Ahi Tuna to be cold (much more refreshing that way) but this wasn't quite there. The sauces while very good, were a bit too overpowering for the tuna in my opinion. Mashed potatoes average, not sure if it was properly paired in this case. My wife got the Georgian Trout. I liked her dish probably a little better than mine. Nicely prepared trout. Good sized portion. Some grits and green beans on the side. Much better ensemble in my opinion than my dish. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was a little quirky but nice and continued to check up on us periodically. So good place, nothing extraordinary and quite a long drive. If we're in the area again, I would give it another chance probably. read more

Wahoo has become a Decatur restaurant landmark. Known for it's brunch and really nice patio, it's had a long history of pretty good service and decent food. I find myself dining here only about once to twice a year on average, and even though I never have had a bad experience here, it's just not a destination place for me. Inside is well decorated and things can get a little cozy in this medium sized dining room. They feature an open kitchen, and while chefs don't normally like that, I think it adds to the space. Smallish bar towards the back. Outside on the patio is a great place to grab a dinner on a nice night or brunch when the weather is good. I went recently when it was cold, and they have the space closed in nicely with glass, but it can still be breezy. They have some heaters, but if you are near one of them, it can get toasty in a hurry. I'd prefer sitting inside during a cold night. The menu reads pretty simply and there's not a lot of cutting edge stuff going on here. Apps include bacon wrapped scallops that are good, but not very exciting. Other apps include Wahoo fish tacos, calamari, and a few other standouts. Entrees are solid, but again, nothing outside the comfort zone. Couple of stand outs are the trout and the N.Y. strip. They've got alot of seafood, which shouldn't be a shocker, all done perfectly each time I've eaten here. Cocktails and wine selection are good, but don't quite match some of the other burgeoning restaurants in Decatur. Service seems great and I've never had any bad service eating here. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I haven't seen it. My real beef with the place is it's prices. Business is good, but I don't see a reason to charge so much for the food. You can expect to pay prices similar to much better restaurants in the metro area. I haven't checked out the breakfast buffet for a long time, so I can't comment on that, but it might be something you want to check out. read more

To start on a positive note....there is free valet on the weekends for brunch! I think you're on your own during the week though. This place is nothing special on the palate and there isn't much extraordinary about the service either. I came once first for a girl's brunch because a friend of mine had a 2 for 1 certificate. I ordered something boring off the menu of uninspired typical brunch eats and it was fine but nothing I couldn't have easily made for myself at home. I was told that the buffet options were better but I skipped on it because it didn't look very tended to/serviced & clean in the 10-15 minutes I spent watching it while waiting for the rest of my party to arrive. I returned on a Tuesday for their 1/2 price appetizer happy hr and ate solo at the bar. I had the mussels which tasted like they were pretty much cooked and soaked in movie theater popcorn butter - I guess you can't really go wrong with that...? I also ordered the calamari which had a strange sticky/sweet sauce - not the salty/savory fix I was expecting but edible nonetheless. I was a little disappointed the bartender didn't really seem up for any small chat but if you're one of those people who prefers to be left alone at the bar this could be a good place for that. read more

The venue itself is already beautiful, and they incorporated our decor in exactly the right way. Reggie was open and flexible to whatever my fiancee and I wanted-- our vision was the most important thing, and the staff did whatever was necessary to make our dream come true! The food was delicious, and the service impeccable. They provided us a schedule ahead of time, and it's clear that they know their stuff when it comes to weddings. Even though we went over our scheduled time/ran behind schedule most of the day, never once did we feel like a burden or rushed. We ran out of time for dessert, but the staff sent it home with us, which was so sweet (pun intended). Saw the Charleston shrimp and grits on the menu and didn't want anything else. I wasn't disappointed. The shrimp and grits were on point. Grits were smooth, creamy and perfectly seasoned and the right thickness to handle the shrimp and gravy. The shrimp and gravy was very tasty and would have worked well on any starch. It worked very well on the grits. The hash brown casserole was very tasty as were the scrambled eggs. Out of curiosity I tried the pimento cheese bruchetta. It was ok and would have tasted better on crunchy bread rather than chewy bread. I did not like the mini biscuit. I'm not a fan of thick gummy biscuits and I'm not sure they are made from scratch. You can't call it brunch without a fruity cocktail. My pomegranate martini was really good and I especially appreciated the fact that I didn't have to guess if there was vodka in my drink - yes there was. The dining room gives you a "cozy" feel with wood floors and tables, and an open kitchen and bar area. I had heard they have a nice patio, so that's where we asked to be seated. When exiting the main dining room, you walk into a covered patio dining area and then out to the outdoor patio. As a "patio person", I thought it was nicely done. The only obstacle is the gravel which is hard to maneuver with heels on, especially after you have a bottle of wine. Wahoo! offers a nice wine list . :-) The olive and rosemary bread is served warm, yum! The lump crab and avocado appetizer was tasty and the entree special - grouper served over sauteed spinach with wild mushroom risotto was very good. The service was also very good. I was taken here as a surprise for my birthday this past Saturday. I really enjoyed myself here. The food and atmosphere were lovely. Our waitress, Jonesy(sp), was the best. She was very attentive and good with my children. My sisters, who are on a fast and couldn't eat meat or sugar, were able to find a couple of things on the menu to satisfy them. I ordered the southern fried chicken that was accompanied by mashed potatoes, gravy, and mustard greens. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and lightly seasoned. I normally prefer my chicken seasoned well, but didn't mind the lack of it because the chicken was cooked so well. The mashed potatoes were okay, nothing to write home about. The gravy was delicious. The best thing on the plate, though, were the mustard greens. They were tender with a touch of spice and vinegar. They were so good, my sisters ate three or four portions of them. Even my mom, who is particular about her greens, enjoyed them. When it came to dessert, they brought out the cake that I bought and served each of us a slice without so much as a word. Some places have issues with you doing so, but not the staff of Wahoo. They even joined in as my family LOUDLY sang "Happy Birthday" to me. They boxed up everyone's uneaten portions and put the rest of the cake back in it's box when we were through. All in all, I had a great experience at Wahoo. By the way, the patio, where we had our dinner, was lovely. As the natural light left the sky, they began to light the candles on the table. It was very romantic. read more

I love this place. The ambience is rustic meets modern chic. They have exceptional wine offerings here and even opened up a wine shop next door. My friend and I decided to take advantage of their half bottle wine special and binged on an entire bottle of a white Bordeaux. We bought a groupon which was a fantastic deal of an appetizer, two entrees, and wine for around 50 bucks. We ordered the tacos, trout, and peach pie. The tacos were absolutely tasty. The fresh peach pico de gallo and cilantro was icing on the cake. The trout came with pesto butter and candied pecans. Our favorite was the peach pie. You must get it! It was to die for. read more

Coming from a small town with not many non-chain restaurants, Wahoo! was a GREAT dining experience for our getaway weekend a few months ago. I really want to give it 4.5 stars, but for a few minor things, so I am rounding down to 4. Agreeing with others here, the ambiance is nice (and I didn't even make it onto the patio) BUT they have no waiting area. We had a group of 6 and we filled the foyer and it felt crowded since there was another small group in front of us. If we hadn't been able to be seated right away, it would have been worse. (Since it was three months ago, I am hazy on recalling if there was a bar - I think there was, but I remember thinking it was too crowded for our party to wait there.) The service was good (not great) as I expect my water to be filled and cold. The decanters were nice, and I liked having them on the table, but with the number in our party, the two decanters were empty in one go-round. And there wasn't much ice so it was barely cool. BUT...the good points? The two things that made the evening completely worthwhile (aside from the people we went with!)...the calamari appetizer and the coconut cake. Simply, it was the best calamari I have ever had. A sweet and slightly spicy sauce, with I want to say banana peppers fried in with it. Completely unexpected and totally worthwhile. I would make a meal of just those. And the cake? Oh, the cake. I am a coconut cake fan, but this just blew my socks off. If we weren't headed out on a road trip, I would have bought a cake to take with me. Hell, I even considered asking them to ship me one. I would marry that cake if I could. The most telling this is if we would go back on another trip to Atlanta...and the answer is a resounding yes! read more

It was tasty, but could have used less dressing. * I highly suggest the Parmesan Encrusted Chicken (covered in dijon and parmesan). It comes with mustard greens and macaroni and cheese. Portion is really big and the price is only $14. GREAT value and flavor! * Some entrees seemed a tad pricey for the size, but I think that's going to be hit or miss. One thing...the spiked root beer float isn't worth the $10. It's a tasty float, but there's less than a shot in it. Everyone at the grill has been extremely helpful and we have been able to plan our dream wedding on a budget that works for us. They offer several options for special event food and host the soirees in a large private tent. Pam leaves no detail unturned. I know my guests will be awed by the setting, brunch buffet and service. As for regular dining, Wahoo is a great Decatur spot. The food is very fresh and the menu has a strong focus on seafood. Wahoo has some of the best service around. This restaurant epitomizes the Decatur feel of showcasing fresh and well prepared foods in a beautiful setting that feels both casual and fancy, but never pretentious. I went for the Sunday brunch buffett. Let me just say I was STUFFED! Everything was wonderfully delicious from the French Toast, blackened chicken, potatoes, breads, shrimp n grits, etc. Really, there's too much to name, but I loved everything. I didn't grow up eating grits so trying it at different restaurants in GA has been an experiment. But I must say, these were some of the best grits I've eaten! Brunch was reasonably priced at $17. We went on a Monday and got a 2 for 1 cocktail deal as well as 2 for1 appetizers. You have to sit at the bar for the deal, and we decided just to have our meal at the bar, as well. Great atmosphere, beautiful porch, kind and friendly staff. The food was amazing. We could not get over the calamari and wanted to order more! It is not your typical calamari- no marinara sauce, and a little bit of an Asian flare. We got the seared tuna and the chicken and gnocchi special, both of which were delicious. This morning was the second time I ate at Wahoo! and it was just as lovely as I remembered. My friends and I sat in the garden room which was plenty warm despite the chilly drizzle outside. My experience this morning was basically what any dining out experience should be; great food, prompt and friendly service. This place is cozy and has homey but elegant decor. Nice enough for a celebration but not too fancy for jeans on a Sunday morning. This price was reasonable for the portions and the quality actually exceed my expectation. The grits were especially good. I will be going back, when its warmer, to enjoy the eclectically designed patio. My one gripe is the mandatory valet parking. The parking situation did not seem to necessitate valet and I can park my car. Other than that it was ideal for a relaxing brunch with friends. Where do I even begin? My Husband and I just got married at Wahoo Grill two weeks ago and it was undeniably the best day of my entire life! Much of that due to the incredible service we received from Pam and the Wahoo team. I can't say enough great things about the experience we had at Wahoo, but I will do my best to sum it up. To start with, the venue is just GORGEOUS. We got married outside in the garden and it really felt like we had been transported to another place. The greenery and brick aisle were just so beautiful, and it gave our wedding the whimsical look I was going for. Speaking of that whimsical look, the Wahoo team went above and beyond to make my décor dreams come true. I sent Pam some inspiration pictures of what I was envisioning and her and her team set everything up for me, the end result far exceeded my expectations. Pam truly made my wedding dreams come true! It was the most beautiful display; it was everything I had hoped for and more. Pam and her team made the day go so smoothly for my wedding party and me. My day of planner, Alyssa was equally amazing! When we had fear of rain she talked us through a backup plan and made my bridal worries disappear. Luckily, it didn't rain, but her kindness and attentiveness did not go unnoticed. She was so amazing to have by my side on the wedding day, she helped coordinate everything and took a huge weight off my shoulders. I really felt as if I had nothing to worry about except getting down the aisle. Pam and Alyssa took all my worries away and really allowed me to be a bride and be in the moment. The food was AMAZING!! I can't tell you how many texts and compliments I received about how delicious the food was. I'm personally still thinking about the prosciutto flatbread. I truly can't say enough great things about my experience with Wahoo Grill. If you want your wedding to be the most magical, perfect day book with them!
