I've been going to Wahoo! for three years now and it's usually one of my favorite restaurants. The food is excellent still, but my last two visits have not been good experiences. The hostesses seem too busy to even make eye contact, and the service has been really slow and impersonal. Both times, they ran out of items on the menu even though we arrived at 6:30 pm. This last visit we were seated in the garden room at a table with an ant problem and glaring spotlights. I asked the waiter two times to fix the lights that were shining right in the faces of everyone seated on one side of the table. He said it was an easy fix but never got around to doing it. The manager eventually sat us at another table, but the same unresponsive waiter took way too long to give us water, take our orders, and give us dessert menus. Went there last night. It was just okay. Service was average. Food was mediocre at best. Friend had the shrimp and grits. Asked for the spicy red sauce on side. Sauce was good and shrimp large but the shrimp were like the frozen precooked shrimp you get from the store. Not sure if that was because it was requested without the sauce. Wahoo is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in Atlanta/Decatur. I don't even know where to start. They have an amazing brunch buffet - shrimp and grits, pastries, pasta salad, fruit. They also have a great patio space in the back of the restaurant. It is the perfect spot for an evening out in the summer or even winter. The patio stays pretty warm. They have good size portions on the entrees. My favorites are the NY Strip with Blue Cheese and whatever Grilled Salmon dishes they are offering. They usually have one that stays on the menu and then a special. They have some of the best grits in Atlanta. I like my grits creamy with a course consistency. These are sure to please. We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding on their outdoor patio. They have added a tented area. They took care of everything and it was a really beautiful space to have a close knit summer dinner. Service here was very friendly and the food was good. The atmosphere is nice and casual in a very inviting way. I will return if in the area again. I tried the trout with grits and mustard greens. No clue what I would get, being from the north, though have had trout before, but I like to try new things. Plus I just moved to NC so I have to start getting on board. Overall I thought the meal needed a little more flavor but it was well done and still good. A solid 4. The mustard greens had no flavor of mustard; should they? Again read above the no clue part. They were more smoky to me and I liked them. If that makes you eat here you are probably crazier than a loon. Still liked them. The grits ... well. Again no clue if they were good since this was the first time I had grits. That being said they were the best grits I ever had! Again see the loon comment. But not sure what the deal is with grits. They tasted like mashed potatoes lacking the potato flavor. But I am far from an authority on this. If I had the option of grits or a punch in the face I would take the grits, but by a slim margin. The trout with the pecans was good, and that was what was the main meal and the main deal. Nice wine list with several unique offerings especially if you order by the bottle. I sat at the bar and bottles were half price Tuesday through Thursday but I wasn't informed of this. I should have been but I was alone so it probably made no difference. We've been there dozens of times since this place opened and have never been disappointed. Everyone I take to it absolutely loves it. The service is professional, the food is fine, the prices are a little high but it's got ambience (not so loud you can't talk) and real tablecloths. I sometimes wish they'd change up the menu a little more, but every time I wish for that they take off something I really like, so I should shut up about that. If you live in Decatur and your mom's in town this is where she should go. Same with friends and business associates. There are fancier places like 246 or Cakes & Ale, there are more adventurous eateries like Leon's, but Wahoo will not disappoint. read more

This place is amazing! I'm someone who has lots of allergies (I follow the Autoimmune Protocol to the Paleo Diet (AIP), and as a result I cook 99% of my meals. I don't often go out, and when I do it can be a hassle. Here, at Wahoo! Grill they were extremely accommodating and friendly in regards to me sharing my allergen requests. Without asking, the waiter, Casey, even got the head chef, Scot to come out. He came out and talked to me, and answered all questions and helped make a dish to meet my needs (pan-seared Georgia trout, and sautéed spinach, onion, and mushrooms in olive oil..YUM). The dish was delicious, and I was just so pleased with the experience. Scot was extremely easy to talk to, and he was really knowledgable about my specific health condition, which was shocking-but a very pleasant surprise. My family also got the pan seared scallops, and shrimp and grits - and they both absolutely loved it. They really enjoyed bread and butter that they serve before the meal, and they had a great selection of beer and wine. The atmosphere was great, I absolutely loved it. Fancy enough for a date, business dinner, etc., but also not necessary to really dress up either. This is a great place, and I highly recommend trying it!! read more

Been going here on and off for years for their brunch buffet. Finally got an actual dinner item last night. The to-go process was seamless and quick. I had the trout which was heavenly and a much larger piece than I expected! I also got the flourless chocolate cake and it was one of the best cakes I've ever had! However, it's their sides that are their weakest point. I had the risotto and the first bite took me back to the watery, mushy and flavorless sides I forced down my gullet when I use to do the buffets. One of my new favorites. Went with friends for brunch today and what great southern charm with indoor outdoor seating. Highly recommend on a beautiful sunny day. Mock tails were creative although they were out of everything peach today (sad face) I must admit I normally hate buffet style food but this was excellent. Love the environment a lot! Would be perfect for date night ! There's a couple of separate dining areas/bar area/our door seating, which are all well thought out and nice. They have an open kitchen setting where you can kind of see everything that's going on. The over all food quality is really good! I love the grilled octopus appetizer, spring trout, and the short rib. All other ingredients on the plate (polenta, greens, sauce, etc.) were also very well prepared! The porcini pappardelle is impressive as well, but I would say it's better for sharing because of the portion and the heavy flavor. Basically we are satisfied with all our food except for the fried calamari today. The batter was not crispy and fell off the squid very easily. And one other cons would be the wait time between appetizers and entree. It was really a long wait... (I saw a big group dining in the outdoor area today which can be the reason.) read more

After my best friend paid for a top shelf open bar at her reception, the place made another $300 on the guests that were charged for their drinks when they first arrived. The bartender and manager conveniently didn't know they were there for the reception, even though they were the only people there and formally dressed. This place is overpriced and will squeeze every last penny out of you. read more

Came here for some college friends for brunch and I was very impressed with not only the quality of food but the service as well. My only knock on would be the limited parking availability, yes they do have valet service, but I think they need to have more than one person working. I really enjoyed my meal at Wahoo earlier this week! This was my first visit, and I went with an open mind. First, the interior was unique and attractive with the rustic vibe of the building and the eclectic/upscale furnishings and decor. The fabric draped at the entrance was an interesting touch. So, on to the food... I started with the Fisherman's Stew, and liked it. It was exactly as described on the menu - a simple tomato "broth" (some stewed tomato) with scallops, fish pieces and shrimp. I didn't fall in love with it, but it was light and tasty. For my entree, I chose the Georgia Trout. This dish is a winner! My plate consisted of 2 ample filets of sauteed trout topped with pecan bits, creamy cheesy grits and steamed green beans. The chef added a small "scoop" of pesto butter on top of the fish right before the plate came out, so it melted as I ate. The flavor was wonderful! I cleaned my plate. Decided to try the Panna Cotta for dessert, because I had never eaten it before. This was another winner! It was a light, creamy pudding/custard (nice vanilla flavor) topped with strawberries in balsamic vinagrette. The mix of sweet and tangy was just yummy. I could have eaten two! I will definitely return to Wahoo! I was surprised to see negative reviews, but everyone perceives things differently. Maybe the chefs prepare things differently on different days. ??? I couldn't have asked for a better venue for our Wedding day. My husband & I fell in love with Wahoo Grill the first time we toured it and saw the romantic garden area and gorgeous white canopy. There's plenty of greenery and decorations that already matched our own whimsical style. Pam, the owner, and Reggie, the wedding coordinator, were sweet, patient, and intuitive. I don't know what I would've done without their help and guidance to help us have the perfect wedding day! I'm sure everything went as planned from our other meetings because of their efforts. We held our ceremony and reception at Wahoo. The change-over from ceremony to table settings was fast and easy for them with our 80 something guests getting appetizers and drinks. We chose the menu and appetizers that suited us the best and are completely obsessed with all their food. I rave about this venue to all of my friends and would recommend them to anyone that cared to have a spectacular event with an amazing staff!! read more

One of my favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is as good or better than a much more expensive restaurant. Since my wife and I went here on one of our first dates we also hosted our wedding's rehearsal dinner at Wahoo. I love this restaurant, its wait staff and most of all the owner. She is sure to have fresh, local and organic offerings and everything is delicious. More than great food this restaurant boasts great service which obviously comes form management down. They hosted my Girl Scout troops etiquette luncheon, and made my inner city scouts feel like royalty. The way they treated my girls most of whom had never been outside of the southwest Atlanta area was amazing. They truly provided them with an experience and Ms. Ledbetter the owner even came to speak to my scouts about females in entrepreneurship. I frequently enjoy lunch and dinner here and am constantly amazed by the beautiful décor and true feeling of home. I I am holding my wedding reception here in October. Wahoo! Grill is the gem of Decatur eateries! I would put it against any 5 star restaurant in Atlanta. Wahoo! is truly a class act. read more

Wa-BOO. I went for brunch and I literally had the worst hollandaise sauce I've ever had in my life. It tasted like melted butter and baby powder. I sent it back to the chef and he agreed and re-made all of the hollandaise for the day. Despite the fact that they gave me a certificate for a free brunch to make up for this grody meal I don't feel the need to ever go back. But the patio is really nice. The best I can say about this restaurant is "great patio." I've dined here twice and found the food doesn't pass the "can I make this (or make this better) at home test." Went to Wahoo! Grill with my parents who were out of town and had a Groupon for 4 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, and 4 entrees. I had a few issues with the overall experience, but my parents loved it. It is a small quaint restaurant, which I prefer over large chains, I stay away from chains as much as I can. The tables are small and you sit fairly close to the table next to you, and I prefer more space. We were greeted about 3 minutes after sitting down, not by the server but by his team member who took drink orders and bought those out. It took another 8-10 minutes to get greeted by the actual server. But, he knew his stuff, the new menu items rolled off his tongue which was nice. Beyond that, the flow of the service was great. Appetizers, entrees all progressed with an appropriate time frame, albeit slower than what I'm used to. I will have to contribute it to the more laid-back dining experience. In reference to the food.. We ordered the bowl of Crab Bisque. Thinner than what I'm used to and the crab was lacking. In addition, it was warm and not hot. I would not order it again. Calamari - was off the chain. It didn't come with that usual orange sauce but had its own sauce drizzled on it. It was a slightly sweet sauce and it made the dish perfection. It didn't make the calamari soggy but super delicious. I'm still dreaming about it. Wine - Nice huge glasses of wine. With the Groupon we could get the house and they were very good. Entrees - Steak - cooked to perfection, with a small amount of steak sauce - this is probably one of the best steaks I had. I hate eating steak with a lot of steak sauce, if the steak is good it shouldn't need it. Ahi Tuna - Perfection, sauce great, mash pot, seaweed salad. Salmon - Great, the quinoa wasn't too appealing. Paella - Chicken was slightly under-cooked (i'm a big no pink/red at all in my chicken person). 2 big shrimp and 4 mussels - probably wouldn't order it again. What we did like was that all servers helped each other. Our glasses weren't empty, we did'n't have dirty plates sitting at our table, and boxed up my dinner. Overall, if I was in the neighborhood, I would go there again, but it's not that great that I would go there because I had a strong desire to go, but still not a bad experience. read more

I've been to Saturday brunch at Wahoo and Sunday brunch at Wahoo - two weekends in a row - and was wowed both times. The menu variety for brunch was a nice balance of breakfast and lunch options. I'm not a fan of eggs but I felt I needed the protein so I went for the Eggs Carbonara with a side of chicken sausage. I love that my meat side choices are not limited to just bacon. Wahoo offers chicken sausage and turkey sausage - something for everyone! My favorite part? $5 mimosas (and bloody mary's) are offered on Saturdays and Sundays. They don't skimp on the serving glass or the chamagne :) My next brunch experience was on Sunday when a buffet is offered. I, normally, stay away from buffets but the choices looked too good to pass up and the price was right ($16). I feasted on shrimp and grits, skirt steak that had a nice smoky flavor to it, curry chicken salad with grapes, bite size cinnamon dougnuts, and mayhaw jelly with biscuits. Now, I didn't know what a mayhaw was so I asked the chef as he was observing the buffet. I found out a mayhaw is grown primarily in Colquitt, GA (the chef's hometown) and is like a crabapple. I loved it! It was sweet and tart and perfect on a biscuit. The chef was kind enough to send us home with our own jar of mayhaw jelly. Class act. They have a good kids menu (the mac-n-cheese is divine) and kids food comes out on fun plates. I love that! The restaurant is cozy and the outdoor patio is beautiful. It's truly a hidden gem. There is ample parking and valet on the weekends. Wahoo is my new favorite place and I wish them continued success. read more

We stopped here after church for brunch. We did not have reservations so sat at the bar for a few drinks until a table was available. I had a mimosa which was very good. He had a bloody mary. I don't typically like bloody marys but tried this one and it was actually pretty good. We only had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated at a table. I decided to avoid the buffet and go for the eggs benedict with cheese grits. The eggs were poached perfectly and the ham was great. The grits were nicely cooked with good flavor. He had the buffet which was amazing. They had a large variety of food and it was all good (I will admit to trying some off his plate). Next time I will go with the buffet. The building is nice. The main interior is a bit industrial with exposed brick and pipes. There is a back dining area that looked nice, though I didn't actually go through. The bar is small but well-stocked. Their back porch is like a little haven in Decatur. I think Wahoo! tops any restaurant I know in Atlanta for decor. It feels like home. I went for my birthday lunch (they are only open on Friday during the week for lunch I think). The staff was so attentive-I think everyone working wished me a happy birthday and I had a very yummy dessert of blackberry cobbler. Hands down the best outside off my own Momma's cobbler. I've been to Wahoo! twice for brunch and twice for dinner and I'm heading back next week with my sister. The porch is fantastically romantic on a warm evening and the food has been consistently good each time I've been there. The atmosphere is warm, charming and the servers have always been attentive. Beautiful inside and outside, diverse menu, delicious cocktails and "cocktails". The service seemed genuine and attentive. I had the brunch French toast which was one of the best French toasts I have ever had. Very moist and flavorful with chicken sausage that was also perfectly spiced and moist, which is hard to pull off. Overall, I would absolutely recommend coming here! read more
