We starting going to Wahoo in 2005. In 2007 we got engaged and went to Wahoo after with friends to celebrate. In 2008 we got married and had our large wedding reception at Wahoo. When we told my in-laws we were pregnant we went to Wahoo. For my father-in-law's 70th birthday we went to Wahoo. Now we have been married 10 years. My husband worked with Pam (owner) to surprise me with a semi-private dining experience, looking out at the garden where we began our married life, with candles, champagne, flowers and the best food ever. Everything was perfect !!! My heart is so full with my life memories and that they have been celebrated here. The atmosphere is beautiful! The food is kind of bland thought which was quite unfortunate. My friends ordered the fried chicken which was amazing but the sides - mash and spinach lacked flavor. Wahoo Grill is definitely one of my favorite go to spots for brunch. I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. The courtyard presents a lovely view and some times pleasant surprises with birthdays, weddings, etc. The food definitely matches the quaint and cozy feel of the restaurant. Whether you are in the mood for crab legs or chicken sausage or shrimp & grits, Wahoo has you covered. The Sunday Brunch Buffet is not extraordinary overwhelming on options but it is definitely more than sufficient and good. The hardest part is parking but take advantage of the complimentary valet or have fun parking on the side. read more

I just got back from my first (and not my last!) meal at Wahoo! Grill. In short, it was amazing. In long format it was a 10+ from start to finish. My mom and I decided to go here after reading a few reviews and checking out the menu online. When I found out they offer one of my favorite winery's Merlot from California that sealed the deal for me (Buena Vista Merlot btw - very good). We arrived at approximately 6:30 to find an almost empty front part of the restaurant. When the waitress took us past all the tables in front we were at first concerned they were going to put us in a cramped table in a corner somewhere. I was pleasantly surprised to find they have a huge indoor and outdoor patio section and there were quite a few other people enjoying their meals. Since I had already perused the menu online I had a vague idea of what I wanted to try. I was even more pleased to find that Monday thru Wednesday they offer a three course prix fixe menu for $19. I chose a fish taco, the Farmer's Spring Salad ($3 extra, delicious but also a lot of food! - next time I'll stick with a regular side salad so I reduce the fappy and food coma result), and the Scottish Salmon as my entree. All of it was divine. Simply delicious. My mom chose the pimento cheese fritters, regular side salad, and the burger. OMG the fritters. I had expected something completely different and I am happy to say that those little gems far exceeded any expectation. I have to go back just to order those. For drinks we ordered a bottle of the Landmark Vineyards Chardonnay. Another awesome feature of Wahoo! Grill is that if you do not finish the bottle they will package it up appropriately so that you can take it home with you without breaking any open container laws. And yes, after all that delicious food (which included full size portions) we went extra fappy and ordered the creme brulee to share a cup of coffee. The creme brulee was perfectly simple and the coffee was freshly brewed just for us. Thank you Megan, you are awesome. I also want to add that everyone else dining at Wahoo! Grill looked like they were having a good time. From date night to family night to girls' night out, everyone seemed happy to be there. The atmosphere is also quite charming. I can't wait to go back! The "valet" that others mentioned is shameful. It's a guy waiting to mug $2 from you. The food is pretty good. I had the snapper, and my girlfriend had the steak. Asked for the steak to be med-rare, but came out closer to the well done. Nevertheless, it was good. The oyster appetizer was underwhelming. It also takes a while to get your check. I thought it was a tactic to make you wait so you'll make room for dessert. Service was pretty slow, but nice overall. read more

I only had an extra 40 minutes or so before having to catch a flight and was in the area, so I stopped in at Wahoo! The staff was friendly as I asked to be seated at the bar for a quick app and drink. The ambiance was warm and inviting and I was quickly served my first beer. I chose to go with the crunchy tuna tacos, though I almost went with one of the tempting main dishes and risk being late. The tuna was fantastic, as was the apple radish slaw and wasabi cream. I eat a lot of sushi and seafood in Chicago, where I'm from, and the quality of the fish was on par or surpassed my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago. So safe to say I loved them. Great date place with great service and food. We got there early while wait staff was in meeting, but front crew jumped in and got us seated on their lovely patio and took our drink order. My husband and I went to Wahoo with another couple. After sitting us on the back patio directly across from the blaring vent,we asked if they could turn the air down(off) or move us to another area. They never turned the air down after several requests. We literally sat with goose bumps. When our meals came none of the 4 meals were hot. We sent 2 plates back to reheat. The other two of us just ate our room temp meals. We finished before they came back with the other 2 meals, which were again not hot and had to request again for them to throw them in the microwave for a minute. Disappointing. I've had better experiences there in the past so hopefully they don't continue to let things like this happen. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for the last two months... I've always been a fan of Wahoo. The food is great and the restaurant is beautiful. My husband and I had our first date there and went to see if it would work for our wedding. From the moment we met Pam at Wahoo, I knew this was the perfect place and she made every detail of planning the wedding so easy for me. We decided to have our ceremony in the garden followed by a reception in the back tent. We had our tasting and the food was fantastic and not your typical wedding menu. I was slightly concerned about how the food would translate into a buffet and was beyond impressed at how perfect it came out. Our guests kept telling us it was the best wedding food they ever had. We lived in Decatur for several years, but didn't make it to Wahoo while we were there. Our loss. We had to travel back to Atlanta for a family funeral, and I wanted to arrange for a place for all the cousins and friends to gather afterwards-ALL 14 of us. I spoke with Ski at the Whhoo and explained our situation. He and the other managers were absolutely wonderful in accomodating our party. They were gracious and understanding and set us up to all be together in the main room. The food and service were top notch. It was a perfect place for us all to gather and I can't tell you how thankful I am that we were given such understanding and professional service-and great food. Interesting menu and attentive service. We had a party of 5 for my husband's birthday and had a very good experience. Favorite dishes include the crab bisque, calamari app, chopped salad and salmon entree. Didn't love the bliss cake and wished we had the chocolate layer cake instead. Could have been more generous with the bread basket. I ate a very hot pepper in my salad and asked for bread near the end of the meal because my mouth was on fire and the basket came back with three tiny slices of baguette. Really!? A pet peeve: I made our reservation online the day before and was surprised to get a message asking that I call and confirm my reservation. Don't waste my time like that! If I made the reservation a week earlier or something, maybe that's appropriate, but does anyone think that a customer would forget or change their mind about a reservation made just the day before? If you have that many no-shows, just give the table away after 20 minutes. Overall, the noise level was a bit too high for our liking, but we would like to come back when the weather is a lot cooler to enjoy the terrace dining (without mosquitos). It looked like they lit a few tiki torches and had fans to combat mosquitos and also brought out a can of bug spray for guests who needed it. read more

Everything is not greater in Decatur. This is our first time dining at Wahoo and I can't say that I'll be back. The over all ambiance of the resrurant was lovely and the outside dining area was refreshing. However the srvuce was exteremly slow, I have great respect and patience for food industry workers and I understand busy. But, when it takes 45 minutes to get a cup of coffee you asked for twice that's ridiculous. Poor planning on the schedule made my first experience not one I wish to repeat. I Visited the Atlanta area in October. Being a customer with extreme expectations in quality and service, I can be extremely judgmental when it comes to dining out at places that have as high of a rating as Wahoo Grill. Let me say first and foremost the food was outstanding and far beyond what I was expecting to be able to get on my short stop over through Atlanta. The portion sizes where more than adequate for the prices, which for the quality was far below what I would have been willing to pay. The staff where very attentive to my needs and desires for a great dining experience. I had no wait time for seating as a party of 1. Overall I have to give Wahoo Grill 5 stars and will visit again, any and every chance I get when I'm in the area. read more

Really a great local restaurant which I love for weekly visits. I can always count on the quality of food, presentation, atmosphere to be wonderful. I love the salmon and trout! Seasonal veggies are always seasoned very well and ... Lawd hav mercy the Creme Brûlée and Bread Pudding desserts are "divine"!!! Yes parking can be a pain but with security and $2 valet it's all good. Just left Wahoo after having lunch, steak salad. We asked for medium rare steak. The steak salad we received almost immediately after ordering and prior to receiving our drinks, a glass of wine and a scotch, was well done. It was suboptimal. I am so glad we decided to eat here and we didn't have a reservation on a busy weekend, but the sat us anyway. That's tops I my book. The staff and service is excellent. The seafood was cooked perfectly. We had Grouper. Someone next to us had the Shrimp and grits, which looked yummy. The best thing my husband and I remember came at the end of our meal. We ordered bread pudding. I'm not a big fan of this desert but boy Wahoo Grill has converted me. I highly recommend ordering the bread pudding dessert. It's enough to share. We are from San Diego. Had a big family dinner to plan. Looked on Yelp and found this location. Drove up to it and second guested from the outside, but so wrong...outstanding. Place has a rustic fresh ambiance. Open, airy, garden setting. Service was as if my sister was serving. Great farm to table food. We were 11 & service, timing of food and drinks unmatched. We applauded our service to end the evening. As to food quality, we ate every appetizer, soup, course & dessert (quite a few drinks & wine). We were a party of 11! Food was great. Completely unpreprepared for mother's day. We waited 30 minutes past time for our reserved table. Then, after being seated, we waited 1.5 hours without our entrees. My 9-year-old son was so tired and hungry that we had to leave before we got served. My mother-in-law, sister-in-law and husband waited around. Once they got their food, it was bland and oily. They gave us $50 off our next visit. Anyone want it? Because we won't be back. You can't ruin Mother's Day & expect $50 to make up for it. Our past 3 experiences have been bad. This is such a great little neighborhood seafood restaurant. The owner is great and often comes to the table to say hello. The seafood dishes are all really nice, in fact the only less than perfect fish I ever had here was the Wahoo. Even then it was quickly replaced with the trout which was great. I just went here today to celebrate my brothers' graduation and I was VERY impressed! Though a little stressful to find, it was well worth it. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and was very pleased. The portions were small (compared to your average American restaurant- so probably an actual serving size) but very very good; the grits were the best I've ever had and the shrimp tasted very fresh. Grandma said the chicken salad sandwich was the best she'd ever had and sister said she LOVED the french toast! The ambiance was great, very relaxing and quaint. The service was good, not the best I've ever had, but the manager was very attentive and it seemed that the whole staff worked very well as a team which made it even more comfortable for me as a guest. The timing between brunch plates being taken away and the presentation of the "Desert Samples" was perfect, and the bread pudding was served hot and delicious! I apologize for the length of this review. This was the worst Mother's Day meal I have ever attended. I wish I would have looked at Lynn E's Yelp review dated 3/28/2016 before going. There is a certain expectation when I eat at Wahoo Grill. They have created a good name for themselves and have lived up to their reputation in the past. I ate there 3 weeks ago and it lived up to my expectations. I have dined for their Mother's Day Buffet several times in the past, and each time it lived up to expectations. This time was far below expectations and in many cases seemed to have the same issues as Lynn E. I am beginning to think they just cannot handle large events. We arrived at 12:40 and were not able to speak to anyone until 12:47. One of the hostesses finally said, "Just give me your reservation information and I will be sure I check you in". 12:45p Reservation for four was not seated until 1:10p even though tables sat empty (unseated) for several minutes. Remember, this is buffet only - clearing and setting tables, and providing drinks is all that the wait staff is expected to do in this situation. The plates are at the buffet line! The table at which we were eventually seated remained empty for about 10 minutes. I would rather they charge ahead for the reservation rather than overbook and make the reservations useless (joke overheard from other patrons, "they know how to take the reservation, they just don't know how to keep the reservation" Seinfeld). We headed to the bar to have a drink while we waited to be seated. The kids ordered Cherry Cokes. However, they ran out of grenadine after one drink (Hello Publix) so one of the kids had a regular Coke which would not be a big deal if it is a singular event. The bar tender was very nice and was concerned about the quality of the drinks he served us so kudos to him. The food was not served at the proper temperature. Southern (mayonnaise based) Potato Salad was warm. I am sure that is a health code violation (I used to manage restaurants). Champagne was served warm (above room temperature). Now that I think about it, most of the items were served at the same temperature except for the ice and the grits. Buffet line was in the worst place possible (not central to the dining areas and difficult to navigate). The buffet line was outside and as far away from the kitchen as it could possibly be. No seafood on the buffet except for shrimp and grits (a restaurant named after a fish and known for fish, and there is no fish). This is a change from some of their previous buffets. They used to serve some type of white fish on their buffets. No desserts on the buffet. I guess patrons would need to spend extra money for desserts by ordering off the menu. I asked the waiter about dessert and he stated that it was on the buffet. I asked one of the buffet attendants about the dessert and he said we had to order from the menu. I asked the hostess and she said she did not know but would have the manager come to the table and tell us what was available. For the 15 minutes we waited to get and pay or check the manager never came by. I saw the owner in the restaurant several times but I am not sure what she was doing. I have to wonder if there was any preparation made for Mother's Day other than cooking a butt-load of food. Based on my memory here was the buffet line-up: -Quinoa salad (pretty much flavorless) -Green salad (Did not try) -Cucumber and Onion Salad - nothing to write home about -Southern Potato Salad (unintentionally served warm -- at least I hope it was not intended to be served at whatever the temperature was at that time of day) -Red Grapes in Lemon Cream Sauce (see potato salad) -Salmon Paste (see red grapes) and various related accoutrements -Curry Chicken Salad -Finger Sandwich Sliced wheat bread -Turkey Sausage -Scrambled Eggs and Cheese (Dry) -Dinner Rolls (probably store bought) -Roast Beef product was very fatty and chewy -Stewed Pork in BBQ sauce (tasted store bought) -Roast Turkey (Did not have but was a delicious shade of grey just like my Dad before his first heart attack) -Black Forest ham in sauce -Chicken Legs (Kids said they were good -Brocolli (so overcooked it fell apart when I stabbed it with my for) I needed a spoon to eat it -A Monkey Dish for Shrimp and Grits (these seemed to be the same size shrimp that Captain D's uses in their popcorn shrimp) and I got two shrimp. -No Dessert Also, go with what you are known for. You serve good seafood and have a great atmosphere. Charge more for the buffet, add better food, and that will limit the number of people that come without reducing your revenue. At least you might reduce the number of patrons to an amount that you can manage successfully. The only positive - the hostesses (even though obviously frazzled) were very polite. The bar tender was polite and concerned about the quality of the drinks he was serving. read more

SHAME ON YOU WAHOO! My grandmother's 83rd birthday dinner at Wahoo was a disappointing experience all around. Part of the problem is they seated us (just a small group of 5) in the covered rear garden room next to a long table which was shortly thereafter occupied by a huge group of more than 20 people. This was a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not crowded AT ALL...so our small party of 5 was neglected throughout the evening in favor of taking care of the large group. SHAME ON YOU, WAHOO MANAGEMENT!! The food was certainly not "bad" but nothing stood out as being especially tasty except for the NY Strip steak. I was very surprised at how horrible the crab cakes were. They were extremely mushy and had an overly strong crabby taste (as in not super-fresh). They are the type of crab "cake" that is very thin, flat, mushy and barely held together...and unfortunately lacked any good flavor. The crab cakes at Ted's Montana Grill are SOOOOO much better it doesn't even compare...and I don't especially care for Ted's...but you get much better service and much better food even at a chain restaurant like Ted's. I had the Wahoo fish medallions and got them sauteed per the server's recommendation so they "woudn't be dry". It was just "ok"...the pomegranate sauce was VERY good but there wasn't more than a small drizzle of it to make up for the slightly dry fish medallions...glad I didn't get them grilled or blackened and glad the server said they would be very dry if I didn't get it sauteed. I thought they were a bit overcooked and dry ANYWAY. We also had the Parmesan encrusted chicken dish which my sister said was dry and overcooked and not at all something she would order again...it came with the worst looking macaroni and cheese I've ever seen or tasted at a "decent restaurant". She said it was also dry and completely flavorless and tasted like it was a day old. My mother had the NY Strip steak which was good (the only thing that anyone actually enjoyed at our table), but she didn't care for the overly cooked and overly onioned veggie blend. My grandmother had the Rainbow Trout and it was fine/average but lacked all flavor through the cornmeal breading. I tried it and was shocked that it had no flavor at all, but at least it wasn't overcooked. My father had the crab cake entree which...as already stated...was not good. In fact, out of all the places that any of us had eaten crab cakes, Wahoo was by FAR the worst we could think of in comparison. So the food was average at best...however the service was my main issue. We sat and waited with empty dinner plates...hoping for time to get dessert or even be offered with a dessert menu...hell we'd have loved to at least had all of our plates removed from the table so that we could at least sit and enjoy a conversation. After 30 minutes of our empty plates just sitting in front of us...I started trying to get someone ANYONE'S attention to please clear the table so we could order drinks and dessert. Of course to top it off, it was too loud to really talk since the huge group was just a couple feet away, and the round-shaped dining table kept wobbling around. The staff at this restaurant seemed totally oblivious to checking on, caring for us, or making appropriate seating decisions...all of which should not have been an issue on a Wednesday evening where half the restaurant (or more) was empty. I think this restaurant has a nice physical space and the menu READS like exactly what we like and what we wanted...but it was, IN REALITY, a disappointment. Shame on Wahoo management for allowing a large group (who arrived inn shifts and disrupted everyone) to overtake the restaurant. There was staff standing around talking at the front while our server and another guy were running crazy trying to satisfy the huge mass. I cannot understand why this place gets such high ratings. Even if it wasn't for the large group, we still were not impressed by the food at all. It kills me to say that I've had better meals at any number of the chain restaurants around town...and I only go to chain restaurants when forced by others!! read more

I went here for Sunday brunch yesterday and it was fabulous! I'm a big brunch person and this place was perfect. They had a wonderful brunch buffet filled with breads, shrimp and grits, eggs with herbs, chicken with creole sauce and much more! The buffet is only offered on Sunday. I didn't have the buffet bc I wasn't that hungry. The chef went to the buffet often to see what needed to be replenished and there was also a worker that just cleaned up the buffet area so it looked really clean. I know this bc we sat next to the buffet. I ordered the french toast with fresh fruit. It also came along with a side of bacon or sausage. The french toast was perfect! It wasn't too eggy. You know what I'm talking about. The syrup was a vanilla syrup and it accompanied the french toast wonderfully! My other friends ordered the Wahoo omelette which they enjoyed as well. So, we valet the car and walk towards the patio door to see a sign that says see hostess inside to be seated. As we go through the door the woman in front of us turned and asked us, pretty rudely, if we had a reservation. My fiancé and I reply no and the lady says "we are all booked today you can't eat unless you have a reservation." We said "umm, okay...?" and turned and walked back to the valet and waited on our car. I get it is Easter Sunday and everywhere will be busy but the tone in which we were spoken to, in my opinion, was very condescending and made me feel like we weren't welcome. Maybe change the hand written sign to say "we are booked" or communicate with the valet (which, from what I understand, there is only valet parking) so they can let people know as they are parking. Not sure who spoke to us but if she was the hostess, eek. I don't have a desire to go back, although the food I saw on the plates of those who were eating, looked and smelled very good. :-/ read more
