Cute spot for a nice little birthday dinner for a friend. I got the garden party cocktail which was so tasty, and my entree was the full peach salad which probably would have been too light on a normal day but I had had a big lunch a few hours before dinner. The salad was alright but could have used more volume in general. We split the fried green tomatoes and yeast rolls - all sooooo good! Service was fantastic. Wahoo! Grill is a charming upscale neighborhood restaurant in downtown Atlanta. It has an atmosphere I would term Nice Informal. There is a large patio for outdoor seating and indoor all have garden views through large windows. The food is Southern-based, but all with a very nice modern twist. The menu changes daily based on fresh market availability. Our party had the Fried Calamari appetizer, Lobster Bisque, Sea Scallops, Ahi Tuna, and the Quinoa Bowl. We sampled three deserts: Lemon Cheesecake, Butterscotch Pot De Creme, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. I must give particular kudos to the service. We showed up as a party of seven, but with three small children (having just come from the Van Gogh Exhibition.) The server never batted an eye: Sat us at a nice table, adjusted the too-strong fan, treated the kids with respect taking their orders, and was attentive to the needs of the adults. Great Job! Okay, a few things. My first time eating at wahoo was January of 2019. They participated in the Atlanta dining passbook and I was determined to take advantage of as many specials as I could before I moved to Nashville,TN. From the first time I went to the most recent time (which was yesterday), the first thing that always stood out to me was the service. Each and every server there was extremely accommodating and genuinely happy to be there and at some point each and every server came to our table and talked to us. Their menu has a variety of foods. I saw someone ask in a different review if they have wahoo fish. And all times I ate here, the Wahoo was always available on the menu. However, as the server put it...the entire menu is 'seasonal' so it changes very often. I had the best mussels months ago. And have not been able to order them again. Anywhoo. Wahoo used to be our favorite restaurant. However, due to moving further away we have not been there for a few years. We were excited when we made reservations for last night to celebrate two birthdays. WOW! Were we disappointed with our experience! First, we had made reservations for a table by the front window only to discover that they had seated another party. When we asked about the empty tables by the rear windows, we were told they were reserved. We ended up being seated at a very poor table near the entrance door only to ultimately learn that the empty tables we were told were reserved were still empty when we left 2 hours later. Our favorite appetizer was always the Calamari. We ordered it only to find that it was so extremely salty it was inedible. A replacement was brought which was equally salty....so much for the Calamari! Our meals were very marginal and nowhere near what we remembered. Also, no bread was served. The Manager explained that it had been eliminated due to budget cuts. There are a number of good restaurants in and around Decatur however Wahoo is NO LONGER ONE OF THEM! read more

Ambiance is nice. Food ok. Service was poor. We sat in the outside patio. The garden is nice and I can see how people have their wedding reception or special celebration here. They have a very safe Covid-19 protocol. Mask when you walk inside the restaurant and outside they set an extra table where server puts your drinks and plates on instead of getting to close to your table. Food menu was limited. I'm not sure if it's a modified Covid menu where it's more limited? But we were looking forward to getting the octopus and it wasn't on the menu. The menu also looks to be small so there wasn't that much of a selection. I ordered the crab bisque and it was like I was eating a bowl of melted Kraft cheese dip. Not good at all. For service we had Angela. She was nowhere to be seen when we wanted to order more drinks. On top of that, our entree came before our soup/salad and she wasn't too apologetic for that. Wahoo! Grill is a awesome neighborhood resturant. This diamond in the rough is a unsuspecting cozy resturant located in the heart of Decatur. Wahoo is partnered with local farmers and fisherman to provide fresh ingredients to their patrons. I dined for dinner on a Saturday evening at 7pm, we had reservations and were seated immediately. The outside seating in the secret garden is absolutely adorable but we opted to dine inside. Our waiter was awesome he gave off a cool southern charm and offered several suggestions and explained the menu very well. The wine selection was extensive and the descriptions were very helpful. If you love wine like I do definitely check out their wine shop next door before you leave it's called Wahoo! Wine & Provisions. I ordered the Ahi Tuna topped with a soy-ginger glaze, wasabi cream mashed potatoes, and wakeme garnish potatoes . Being from Maryland and a seafood snob it's hard to impress me when it comes to seafood. The Tuna was fresh, pan seared to perfection and rare like it's supposed to be . Everything on my plate made for a perfect harmony I loved it. My friend had the shrimp and Grits which was very flavorful and the texture was nice and creamy with plenty of shrimp. Wahoo also has a first Wednesday night wine tasting which I think I will check out next month. We made an evening of it after visiting the Pullman Yard for the Van Gogh immersion event....which was a great opportunity to learn the life and art of the famous post-impressionist. Within a couple of miles was our true destination...dinner at Wahoo! Grill. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Stoller chard for me and a Pinot for my "date." A shared roast beet salad with apple slices, goat cheese was a great start but gone just in time to find our entree's coming to the table. Being a sucker for seared sea scallops and an outstanding taste sensation of a risotto with bacon, corn and gremolata it was very much the perfect accompaniment to the scallops. The Lady of the House got the SesameCrusted Ahi with the ginger glaze, mashed potatoes and a moderately warm wasabi cream just to top off this taste sensation. Along with the Roasted Brussel Sprouts; Green beans with garlic we were just about out the door when our server offered up the desserts and coffee. A couple of cups of a good finishing coffee...and time to mull over the offer of dessert...we took the Toni (my apologies if I have the spelling wrong for this wonderful lass) recommendation for the Butterscotch Pot de Crème which very much a unique dessert item for the both of us....but as advised by Toni....dig in deep and eat this dessert from the bottom up. Heck...Toni knows the entire service, menu and preparations for the Wahoo!...She is very much an asset and someone that we hope to visit with on our next journey into scouting out Decatur eating establishments. Covid has been banned from here!! Seriously they are the most vigilant place we have dined at many places while we travel to cheer our GA Bulldogs on! I had wanted to eat here for YEARS. Many many years ago after we finally found a parking place, we were told it would be over an hour before we could be seated. Tried one more time after that and couldn't find a place to park. Then moved to Florida but I didn't forget!! Even though I now live in Athens, we found ourselves in Atlanta so I was determined to go to Wahoo!! WONDERFUL! Great experience and great food!! Not as much. But if you're there for the main course you'll enjoy. They offer valet that costs $2. There's limited street parking. I'm torn between 3 and 4 on this one. The service was incredible; our waiter Paul made sure we had everything we needed. The interior is lovely and they have an awesome patio but I was quite disappointed with food. I came here on a Monday (11/28) so the restaurant wasn't busy which is to be expected. They have a full bar with quite an extensive drink menu but I was craving my usual manhattan. The drink arrived in a snifter and on the rocks as requested, with a delicious dark cherry as it should. Win on this one. For the app we tried that night's special duck sausage with sauerkraut and bread. The sausage was quite tasty, smoky and sweet at the same time. The list of entrees was somewhat limited. The only one I wanted to try was scallops but I didn't want cream sauce or the risotto (they could not make it without butter), so I subbed it for their Late harvest salad with kale and quinoa. Here's what I got: kale salad with 2 scallops on top. There was hardly any quinoa and 2 scallops?? Really? Paul ended up putting an order for me for 2 more and a side of quinoa since I kind of expected more of it, not just kale (which I'm not a huge fan of). The side of quinoa I received was absolutely laughable. It was brought to me is a tiny condiment "cup". The scallops were also very salty. If not for the app, I would have left absolutely hungry. Came here with a group on Sunday, and while all of my companions chose to partake in the buffet (that sounded incredible mind you), I was trying to save some bones and decided to try the very reasonably priced Chilaquiles for $9.00. They were fantastic and I ate the entire plate! We sat on the patio and it was lovely. I didn't get to go inside the restaurant, but I loved the ambiance in the outdoor space. Gorgeous! Our group was large and loud and our server was able to split into individual bills, patient with our party, and got every single order correct. We were invited by my mother's co-workers who were celebrating her retirement. They had reserved tables in advance. We had a big group, maybe 15 or so? Our server was Chase and he was very friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout the evening. He made sure every guest was taken care of from start to finish. My family and I tried: Complimentary Mini Corn Bread Georgia Peach Mocktail $6 Joyce Farm Chicken Meatballs $10 Asian Pear Salad (half) $7 Enchanted Springs Trout $23 Southern Sea Scallops $27 Red Snapper $25 Wild Mushroom Pappardelle $19 Fried Chicken $19 Side of Smoked Cheddar-Poblano Grits $5 The food all tasted fresh and delicious. However, I felt like the portions were inconsistent. Some of the appetizers were significantly larger than the entrees. For instance, my father ordered the scallops. He received 3 medium to large scallops on a bed of grits. Just 3 pieces and they weren't extra large scallops. My BIL ordered the fried chicken and I think he received one piece of thigh or small breast and a small scoop of mashed potatoes. My sister and I on the other hand, received ample portions of our food. I ordered the wild mushroom pappardelle and my plate was completely full of pasta. My sister ordered the trout and her fish was rather large. I don't know, maybe I am missing something or just don't understand their concept. Again, the food was GREAT. I'm just confused about their portions, especially for the prices. I really enjoyed the asian pear salad and the mushroom pappardelle. Personally, I thought the flavors were on point. My mother is a bit sensitive to salt and thought her snapper was a bit salty. That night, they offered $2 valet. During my first visit (lunch time), I self-parked. I like that Wahoo has nice food without being too fancy or pretentious. It's true that the isn't cheap here but they source using good ingredients and with ethics in mind - something that can be hard to find with seafood. I've been here a few times and while I've never had their brunch I hear good things. The atmosphere is warm and spacious and it's nice that they have a variety of different rooms to eat in. I prefer the indoor-outdoor seating outback. On my most recent trip I enjoyed a nice 3 Tavern's pale ale, the creamy and delicious crab bisque, and my friend enjoyed a grilled cauliflower salad. I don't think it was anything that special but he liked it just fine. I really enjoyed my main dish the Georgia trout and my friend also liked his fish - the tuna. The grits were rich and tasty and the pesto sauce was delicious but there wasn't enough of it and without it, the fish didn't have a ton of flavor. It was cooked right though and I'd still order it again. Wahoo is a solid restaurant for a nicer meal if you are willing to spend a little more money. I wish that you did not have to valet to park here, it doesn't make a ton of sense to me in this part of Decatur. read more

This is a great place for a fun, enjoyable dinner. The menu is compact but features several seafood offerings as well as a NY Strip and fried chicken. They offer daily specials to keep the menu fresh. Appetizers, soups, salads, and deserts round out the menu. Soups and salads come in two sizes so they can be a side or a main entre. Portion sizes are rather small compared to many restaurants tough that being said, I left very full. I relay enjoyed the ambiance. The place is deceptively large with four distinct sections including a large outdoor dining area. Highly recommend for groups out to enjoy the evening together. read more

Attended a holiday event at this restaurant a few weeks ago and everything was going well until my glasses disappeared (stolen) by one of the young lady on the team. I was literally standing across from where I sat taking pictures. When I returned the retrieve my glasses they disappeared. Knowing that I just saw the young lady cleaning the table I went to her and asked for my glasses and she denied seeing them. Everyone at the table confirmed that my glasses were on the table prior to her removing the tablecloth and she and the others claimed they searched the bags with the linens and they did not find my glasses. I reported it to the manager who was extremely concerned and he asked the team to search for them however the search was unsuccessful. Im extremely disappointed with the owner's (Pam) response to the situation and pretty much implied that they were taken by someone else. Luckily everyone at my table was witness. To add some context the glasses in question was designed by Prada with my initials embedded on them. read more

I attended a birthday celebration on Tuesday 9/24 and had the unfortunate experience of being waited on by Taylor. She was rude and condescending--and I dare say culturally biased. I'm a 60+ African American woman and don't care to be called "sweetie" by customers service reps. I told her that I'd prefer "ma'am" if anything because I was certain that I was old enough to be her mother. If she had said nothing that would have been fine, but she preceded to call me sweetie EACH TIME she waited on me: my drink order, dinner order, and check! I told everyone at my table that she was trolling me and Taylor said, "No I'm not, I call everybody sweetie." Taylor needs a customer service lesson that it doesn't matter what SHE wants to call people, she should greet patrons of Wahoo WITH RESPECT and not with terms of endearment like she's engaging a new girlfriend or that Black women are somehow beneath her (which I believe was her true intention). read more

We held our wedding ceremony and reception at Wahoo! Grill, and weeks later we are still talking about how smoothly it went. Especially considering the care Sydni, Reggie and Pam took in working with us through COVID-19 restrictions, we were able to feel safe and relaxed in a beautiful space. The cost was extremely reasonable for the area, and our guests were so impressed with the food! The garden area is gorgeous, and we were so grateful for the shade of the covered patio. Fantastic place in ATL! The interior deco is very cozy and comfortable. It's a great place for family gathering, reunion, girls night, date night, or even just visit it for no reason. Foods are good too. We have calamari and octopus for appetizers, calamari is a bit not that crispy but overall it's good. Octopus is great too. I love the seasoning in the dish, rather than the normal lemon or lime, they use some other citric that gives a little bit twist in the flavor. For entree we have 4 dishes, red snapper, trout, short ribs, and mushroom pasta. I'm a big fan of porcini-based food. The mushroom pasta is a must have, a little bit salty though but wonderful. The sauce is rather creamy and the flavor is phenomenal! Trout is also fantastic, instead of coming with a carb-based garnishing, they use chard which cooks perfectly and give the dish a light finish (which I found it great because the rest entrees are a bit heavy to us. Great! But a little heavy.) Red snapper is good, but not my favorite, I'm not a big fan of wheat berries. Short ribs is cooked perfectly. Very tender and easy to rip apart. The juice and flavor are all there. Overall my friend and I LOOOOOOOVE this place. The waiters and waitresses provide great services. Changing your plate and utensils between every dishes. My glass was always full with water there's needless to ask them to do anything. They just do it. It's not common to anticipate receiving this kind of service at this price manner. The environment is clean and the lady's room is well maintained. I could not really find something to complain about. read more

Great experience! Very boutique style restaurant so much so the GM comes to each tables greets you and let's you know to find him if you have any issues or just wants to talk. I had the scallops (I think slightly slightly over cooked bc they were tuff) but I added crab to the risotto which was AMAZING we had calamari that was drizzled in a spicy sauce that was great! there were lollipop lamb chops that looked amazing. There was $4 valet parking and my lemon drop was amazing. Great staff besides this one woman who just didn't fit the restaurants good vibes. My waiter offered me spring water and she could be heard telling him she's gona get distilled or sparkling THATS ITTTT....she was a bit...well... ghetto....too stuffed for desert which sounded appealing. We enjoyed a most wonderful meal here on 4/9/21. Angela, our waitress was wonderul, courteous, and made excellent suggestions. We sat outside in the garden, which was beautiful. Our appetizer of crab cakes were delicious with a wonderful zing of mustard cooked in to make them unique. The salmon and steak were both cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. The bread pudding was much lighter than any I had tasted before and we ended with irish coffee. The only negative was having to wear masks going to our table and thats probaly the government and not the restaurants fault.. Total meal was 100.00 without gratuity, but I felt it was worth every penny...I'd definitely eat here again! read more

The brunch buffet had about 12 items on it including Charleston shrimp and grits, seasoned eggs, beef tenderloin, creole chicken and more! Paired up with a tangy Bloody Mary and you're good to go for the rest of Sunday. Service was efficient even for our group of six and there was no rush at all. The only challenge you'll find for Wahoo Grill is its hidden location on a one-way street. If you're not paying attention you'll zoom right by and have to circle back around! But you know what? That hidden location means that the Wahoo Grill is a great spot for locals which is the perfect way to spend Sunday for a serene brunch, bon appetit! read more
