This was my first ever Wahoos when I worked in the area back in 2006. I continued to go here until I found other locations but glad it's still around. Lots of seating inside, no patio, friendly staff and of course the food is delicious. A secret I always tell people: if you are going to order anything with chicken, ask for teriyaki chicken or sauce on the side. Trust me read more

They have killer onion rings, the fish tacos were very good. It was a little pricey, unfortunately. Everything else was decent. Service was nice. There was a time when the restaurant itself had more character, you may recall that basically the outside and the inside were covered with surfer and skateboarding stickers! The ambience was so fun. Now it just seems to be OK food for the most part and not the best value, (two fish tacos with beans and rice and onion rings was over $30 !) I think I'm not happy at the fact that my fish taco was very limp, not crispy! They weren't exactly something to write home about either. The guacamole was good. The salsa was good, but I didn't keep well for the next day when I took some leftovers home. I should've returned it, (there are so many places around that actually make crispy delicious fish tacos ) if it wasn't for the nostalgia of this place, and so many memories here I don't think I would've ate here - additionally I felt that the employees were nice, but not concerned, also that This wouldn't have been there first choice of style of cuisine. I missed a really cool, surfers and skateboarders that used to work here and kept the theme alive. And all the stickers bring back the stickers! read more

Restaurant is very clean with plenty of seating. We ordered at the counter and a server brought us our food. When we were done, the server cleared our table. First off let me say that I've been a very long returning customer of Wahoo's went in for lunch today and got one of my personal favorites the 1988 burrito wet style with green sauce that burrito is absolutely magical and that particular green sauce is extremely unique and you can get it on other things like the enchiladas I personally like to use it as a dip for taquitos anyways nice job was keep up the good work read more

So bummed with Wahoos today! I no longer live near a Wahoos so when I am close i always get it. Ordered through Door Dash. Ordered 2 -2 1988 tacos with rice and beans. All pictures show salsa on the tacos and the rice. I ordered two extra salsas because I like a lot. The tacos had no salsa on top(completely dry) and only the two salsas I paid extra for were included in the bag. So not a single salsa for the tacos. The timing was pushed back multiple times-quoted time 29-36 minutes for delivery. Ordered 1:04. Received 2:00. The driver was waiting for the order for 10 minutes. A total disappointment for someone who only gets the chance to eat here about once a year. read more

Staff 10/10 Food flavor 9/10 Portion of protein to food 0/10 Won't be returning. Management needs to monitor and audit how much protein is given (less than 4 oz). Unacceptable, unless you want a bowl of rice and beans with 3 oz of chicken (carb bomb). I asked the chef beforehand and she said 6 oz. My wife and I ordered 2 banzai bowls and the chicken was nowhere close to it and left us hungry for protein. I left half the bowl of white rice there and heading somewhere else to eat my protein. A little context first. I don't normally tip to-go orders. Tips are for good service, and if I give one, it'll be AFTER I know it's deserved. Well apparently this place decided to retaliate! Food WAAAY overspiced. I like my food spicy but this was entirely inedible. It's simply not possible they'd make all of them THAT spicy and stay in business. Portions WAAAY under poured. See photo below of my $9 soup before I ate it. I noticed them chatting a lot and sort of looking in my direction a few times as if to be saying "we'll teach him to snub us, stupid ...", as the minutes kept advancing. Something seemed off but at the time but now it makes sense. I generally like Wahoos, but I shudder to imagine what else they did to our food. That's a stretch, but maybe. If they're willing to do that then what about hygiene? It also speaks to the management in general that they tolerate this; maybe the night manager was in on it? Also it took pretty long, maybe 15-20 minutes, so it's not the quick meal I usually get from Wahoos, and I was essentially their only customer for most of the wait and they had 3 people on staff. Maybe I'm learning why it's not popular. I'll never visit them again and I urge others to only visit at their own risk. The Wahoo's on Jamboree & Michelson has always been great. This one even look dingy from the outside. read more

Ever since this place got bought out, IT IS THE WORST!! Ever time my husband orders, it just gets worse and worse! Just paid 7.50 for a cup of chicken tortilla soup that came with one piece of chicken in it! It was such a small cup-not even 8 oz! DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!!!!! It sucks!! Even their burritos have no meat and all rice! They no longer allow you to place specific requests for your orders as well. Sad that such a classic place has become over franchised! No longer will I support this crappy food. read more

I always order the Baja Roll, it's so filling and only $6.99. The green sauce that comes with it is just the right amount of spicy. Parking is horrible at this location but I tend to go during off-peak hours. read more

I take out here 2 or 3x a week, here's why: Food is always good, I usually get a wahoos bowl or protein bowl w extra fish so my dog can help eat it. So, food is good. How many places do you go to 80 times w no complaints... Great staff, always service minded... And other places I go have a 10% convenience fee and the tip selections start at 18%... 28% or better. Fine for dining in but that is a tax and a ripoff. At Wahoos just tip them because you want to, not have to! read more

Usually when you get the food to go, they don't give you as much as you would get if dining in. That could be due to the size of the containers rather than a plate but this time I was given a lot more than I usually do for takeout. Although my avocado looked like it's had a long life. This place is reasonably clean. Food is good. I did enjoy eating here at some point until employees kept walking by everytime while I was chewing with my mouth full asking me if everything was alright lol. I mean I guess they have good manners and are friendly, but I just wanted to enjoy my food unbothered XD. Now the restrooms, when I last went there, is locked so it is a hassel too. I've been coming to Wahoos since I got introduced to it back in 2018. I LOVED Wahoo's but lately my husband and I have seen the portions go down but we continued to go since we loved it.. but now they're changing their meats. Looked like canned chicken in my bowl. I was honestly surprised and thought this must be a mistake. So I called, and asked to have another bowl made and to please not chop up my chicken so small. They ended up telling me that this is how their chicken will be from now on, and their asada is small chopped up bits as well.. I hate to say this but I will not be back. I'll take the drive to Baja Fish Tacos for a good quality bowl. read more

It was my first time eating there outside of a catering sitch, finally! And they did everything right! They only allowed a few people in the store in a time and had QR codes for the menus. Ther was a nice, small, outdoor patio where you could go and wait for your eat out or take out. I love those big box restaurant store buzzer style notifiers! Ultimately, I wasn't a big fan of my meal. I got a fish burrito bowl. The fish came out looking like a piece of tile. It was tasty but dry. The rice was good - and to be perfectly honest it's really the only thing I remembered about the catering too. But hey they had Corona! And that takes cojones. The staff was on point. Attempt to go a long way but they are on a major street and it would probably obscure the front of the store. Otherwise I highly recommend it, if only for the catering. read more

First time trying Wahoo Fish tacos since they're mainly based in the OC area. My experience was pleasant and surprisingly nice. Parking was not too bad. It may be a bit scarce during the dinner rush. Upon entering the restaurant it feels like a fast food place where you just order upfront and find a table to eat. The decor all around resembles almost like a surfer/ snowboarding place, which is really interesting. The food didn't take too long to arrive so I was able to satisfy my hunger in no time. Also the food portion was really decent! I ordered their grilled fish tacos with a side of Cajun beans and rice. The fish in the tacos were delicious and plentiful. They definitely did not skimp on the protein. The Cajun beans goes very well with the rice. There's something about their rice that makes it so addictive and good. I don't normally eat rice or eat it on its own, but this rice is amazing! Highly recommend trying Wahoo Fish Tacos if you've never been or just want a quick good meal. read more

When I'm back in Orange County for work Wahoos is definitely a must for me! The service and the food are consistently top notch!!! Someone please open one of these in Tucson In the last few years they've added a lot of new items, but i stuck with what i usually get and ordered the #1 combo with a fish taco (88 style) with black beans, white rice and extra green sauce. The best part of this location is the exterior. Awesome spacey mural. One huge problem. Their restroom. It had such a strong odor and it wafted throughout the entire hallway which is located at the entrance..leading to the line to order. I am so surprised the restaurant was packed with this stench. They deleted my Google review so I decided to post here on yelp. First time and hope it's the last time I have to leave a review. Ordered online for in store pick up through the website and inputed the wrong location. Called and asked for a solution and it was either have someone pick it up or solve this issue with DoorDash. I explained that I did not have the app. I ordered using the Wahoo's website which says "online order". I proceed to tell them that I'll just have someone I know pick it up. When the person arrived the workers told them I canceled the order which is impossible because I don't even have an account through DoorDash. Whoever I was on the phone was great however being told that I canceled when that is basically impossible because I don't even have a DoorDash account is appalling. I guess im a Karen now. Update 10 min later: Just downloaded the DoorDash app to see if maybe I have an existing account and I was the person wrong in this situation. Used the same email and phone when signing up. Photo below proves my point I never had a DoorDash account to begin with until I signed up. There isn't even anything to cancel because their hasn't even been a order made with this so called account. read more

When in around 11:30 am today and waited for over 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge I was there. Let me add, there was hardly anyone there and I was the first in the line. When someone came to the front to take the order, the phone rang and the person starting taking their order instead of the people waiting. I loudly said "Thank you" and walked out. Don't waste your time or money. The prices are very high and the service is horrible. There are too many options in the area to put up with bad service. read more

Honestly y'all. Wahoo's is the best place in the planet. I've been here dozens of times and I have yet to get something I don't like. Hello, today, I went to Wahoo's fish taco's on my way back to the office from a client. the location was: Costa Mesa Bristol St 3000 Bristol St Costa Mesa, CA, 92626 I ordered 3 citrus slaw fish tacos to go. I asked them if there was onions and told them that I was allergic, so if there was any changes to make, to make them. The your girl in the front told me that there was only slaw and aioli. I got to my office, sat at my desk and opened my food. the smell of onion was pungent! there was an abundance of green onions, Not just a little bit. It almost seemed that I asked to add extra onions to the tacos! Really bad practice from this location to disrespect customers like that! Of course, my office is in Tustin, and didn't have time to go back, so I can't do anything else than complain by email. It was 1988 when we, the Lee brothers, came together to open the first Wahoo's Tacos in Costa Mesa, California, where the surf and skate industry had gathered. We wanted to create a menu that was a reflection of our unique heritage. They went up in price ($17.99) as of 2026, and although I think it's pretty pricey, if you're already shopping here and have a craving for menudo, I think it's worth splurging. People who work here are always super nice and friendly - I just love coming to this place for my menudo fix!
