Hello, today, I went to Wahoo's fish taco's on my way back to the office from a client. the location was: Costa Mesa Bristol St 3000 Bristol St Costa Mesa, CA, 92626 I ordered 3 citrus slaw fish tacos to go. I asked them if there was onions and told them that I was allergic, so if there was any changes to make, to make them. The your girl in the front told me that there was only slaw and aioli. I got to my office, sat at my desk and opened my food. the smell of onion was pungent! there was an abundance of green onions, Not just a little bit. It almost seemed that I asked to add extra onions to the tacos! Really bad practice from this location to disrespect customers like that! Of course, my office is in Tustin, and didn't have time to go back, so I can't do anything else than complain by email. Good food at a decent price. The Cajun beans and white rice are a hit every time. The shrimp is good and so is the steak. Haven't tried out all of the meats but do know those are a good starting point. The tenderness of the steak and the flavoring is solid. I always thought this was the original location of the local fish taco chain but it's certainly one of the first three. The freestanding building has a strange layout but still pumps out tons of fish tacos. With only a dozen parking places, it's cramped at lunch. Still, this is one of the best chain restaurants around. Along with In n Out, it still has a local feel and the food is very good. My fish burrito was delicious, as were the rice, black beans and salsa. Quality fresh ingredients made for a filling and cheap lunch. Beware of YOLANDA!! I had the worst experience at this Wahoos last night. This is not my 1st run in with Yolanda and I really try to avoid her because she is rude, mean and out of her way vicious. Yesterday I went to Wahoos for lunch and returned to the same location for the dinner and brought my friends. I have 35 check ins at this Wahoos and frequent many of the Wahoos around OC. I have 355 "Loyalty Points" from the app (5 per visit) That around 70 visits just since they did the app. I think Im kind of a regular. For medical reasons I stick to fish salads and because the point rewards are mainly fried food I can only get them to share when I go out with other folks. Or spend them and get another hat. I walked in with 70 points to spend, I ordered a chips and salsa with my salad, I was charged 40 points for the chips and Yolanda then denied my reward telling me I did not qualify. I tried to find it on the app to show her and had trouble to verify. Clearly they can verify they charged me but Yolanda would rather belittle the customers and accuse them of lying. I asked for a manager and Joann came out. Ive seen her many times and she has always been sweet. I explained the situation and she said she cant get involved. I showed her my app and how much I come to her place and she continued to insist she could not help me. I was angry, embarrassed, unable to finish my salad and completely ruined my night after Yolandas NASTY attitude. This is my 2nd time complaining to corporate about YOLANDA and this time I wrote eight letters and hope to get a response. Every Wahoos I go to has awesome, helpful, nice and friendly staff. Victor over on Warner makes everyone feel like a regular. Im amazed she is allowed to treat people the way she does and continue to work there. FIVE of us will never return to that Wahoos. Just in the tips we did not leave last night would have more that covered my STOLEN chips and regret of dinner but Joann decided a regular customer did not matter. It took me 8 visits to earn that STOLEN basket of chips and Im one of the few customers that tips everytime Im there. More than payed for the stolen token and just floored at the complete lack of customer service, didnt even pretend to care. Im sad because I honestly work walking distance from there and this is so much easier than Crystal Court when Im busy. read more

Always the best fresh fish taco place, unbeatable, and the original. Have been coming to a bunch of the Wahoo's since their original opening in the early 90s. Met the owner decades ago while literally snowboarding on the slopes at Bear Mtn--super cool guy, when he was still building his locations. My go-to meal has always been for decades the two fish taco combo--one blackened fish and one regular--with white rice and black beans. Really great deal for around $7, and it always fills me up. I've Yelped about multiple Wahoos locations in the past--my longtime regular joint is located off 19th St in Costa Mesa. Their consistency and great price make these places a regular stopping point. read more

I haven't had Wahoo's in years. And then I had it today. And it was magical. The menu has gone through drastic changes in order to accommodate the health crazed obsession that seems to be diseasing every restaurant menu. Kale. Substitution for this or that. Carb free menu items. One thing that has magically stayed the same is the #1 and in my case, one chicken enchilada, white rice, black beans, all in green sauce. So good. For the low, low price for $5.91. That's basically free by Orange County standards. After all these years, it's still so good and filling. AND this Wahoo's restaurant in particular has impeccable service with employees asking whether you need anything during the course of your meal - mind you, this is not a wait service restaurant. The place has great customer service, plenty of seats, big portions and fair prices. It also suffers from being unoriginal and just bland. If I have to pour a mountain of green sauce to give my fish plate flavor and still have it be weak I don't know...something is missing. Something is missing the mark. My company ordered food for us at work and I went with the Paleo Bowl and chose banzai veggies and shrimp as my proteins (~$11). I would never willingly eat at Wahoo's myself and after today's lunch, it just confirms that I've been right about staying away from this place. The bowl itself was good during the first few bites, but it was drenched in sauce as I ate deeper into the bowl. The bottom of the bowl was just sauce and everything was really salty. The shrimp is cooked well and tasted fresh, but I wouldn't get the banzai veggies next time. I can't speak for the service because I had take out. But the food was not impressive at all and there are so many other options to choose from that are better for what you can get for your money. read more

This is what WFT is supposed to be! Or rather, what a person from the Midwest thinks a commercial surfer hangout place would look like. When the Wahoo brothers created WFT, they wanted a place with a Hawaiian vibe that catered to surfers and offered eclectic Mexican-Brazilian-Asian fare. I think they totally missed with the food, which to me is quite ordinary and not the least bit Brazilian or Asian. Except for a few token items labeled "Maui" or "Banzai" (seriously?) it's Americanized Mexican fare. Here though, the vibe is definitely surfer and board guy. Walls outside and in are covered with surfer stickers, and the decor looks like someone actually used it to perform knucklehead stunts on the streets of LA. When we were here, the U.S. Open of Surfing was going on in HB, and the place was filled with surfers wearing team gear and, well, sitting around looking like surfers. Guess that means I was profiling. Parking is bad, but you don't eat the parking. read more

My buddies and I came here for dinner last night around 6:30. The parking lot is tiny, but I managed to get the last spot by squeezing in between two other cars. Inside, there was a steady crowd, but we didn't have trouble getting a table. I ordered the Kahuna Grande combination which included 1 fish taco and 3 carne asada taquitos served with ahi rice and black beans for $8. Not exactly the cheapest place to get fish tacos *ahem Rubios*, but still a fair price for a sit down restaurant. As much as I want to love Wahoo's because I love the whole Hawaiin surfer vibe, the food could be better. The fish tacos consist of corn tortillas, grilled fish, cabbage, shredded cheese, pico de gallo and a lime wedge. Because there isn't any type of sauce, it's a little bland. I had to make use of the Gringo Bandito and Tapatio provided at each table. The taquitos come with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo salsa. Pretty good. Rice and beans were nothing to write home about. So while the food at Wahoo's isn't mazing, it's acceptable. I just wish that they would provide you with you free chips or something. It would certainly make up for the lackluster food. 3.5 stars. read more

First time lunch experience: Two simple tacos ordered to go plus drink: Carne Asada & Fish. 30 minutes later I get the order - WTF ??? After everyone else who ordered at about the same time got their order and have long gone. I sucked down the soda waiting for my order and had to refill which was nice. The cashier looked worried when I was looking at the clock and kept going back into the kitchen two times. He did try to reassure me that my order is being made. So then the worst - after I got the simple 2 taco order half an hour later (late back to work) - the tacos were ice cold and tasted awful - had them as soon as I got them. I threw away the carne asada which tasted like boiled beef with an ugly gray color to it. No spices, no taste. The fish taco was a bit better even though it was cold. Was in the area and my friend wanted something cheap & healthy. Opened up my Yelp! app and saw there was Wahoo's only a couple miles away. This was my first time eating at a Wahoo's - yeah I know I know. The parking was a lil bit tight & we were just coming from a car event @ Stillen down the street. So we parked at the next lot over by the paint place. The line to order was out the door and it was 11:30am. Looking at the menu, nothing really jumped out at me. I dont do the salsa, onions & cilantro and Im very cautious when ordering at mexican joints to make sure they dont put any in my food, but most will throw it in anyways. So I tried to be safe and I ordered the #5 combo, which was an enchilada & 3 taquitos. Got the black beans & the brown rice. When she asked me if I wanted white or brown, i assumed the brown would be "mexican rice" but it wasnt. It was the healthy smancy fancy rice that was charged extra. Food was ok. I mean it was an enchilada & taquitos. The brown rice was bland and favorless. The taquitos had a lil kick to them - I think theyre more famous for the fish tacos & teriyaki bowls, but I was skeptical about ordering a Teri bowl at a Mexican joint. i doubt I would visit a Wahoos in the future. I've ordered lunch from Wahoo both through GrubHub and by having a coworker pick up, and it's not a perfect system just yet. I've had incorrect orders, missing modifications, and one plate that leaked all over the entire bag. I wish they would switch to something more environmentally friendly instead of using styrofoam, especially since the to-go plates they use leak every time. I also should note that one of the orders included a TOFU Wahoo Bowl that had a few pieces of chicken in it. For anyone reading who thinks I'm "just being picky", please educate yourselves. When you remove something from your diet and then eat it again after months or years, it causes serious GI reactions. Even a couple of bites can lead to days of painful indigestion, bloating, etc... read more

It was sorta hard to swallow. The rice was good and the beans were okay. Overall, it was decent, although I've had better at say, Rubio's. Parking - OH MY Gosh. Parking is terrible. Beyond terrible. Theres like 5 spots and don't even bother finding a spot around lunch time. Anyway, I got one of the rare spots and when backing out, almost rammed into another car who either didn't see me or was just reckless. I was here for lunch today and ordered the Wahoo Bowl and a drink. Cost me $11. That's expensive!!! When ordering, I was asked if I wanted white rice or brown; of course I got the brown rice. I also got a choice of black beans or pinto beans.... well, black beans, hands down! I got the spicy cajun spice on my grilled fish. At least I get choices.... When the food came out, I got a plate of rice and beans with 3 strips of fish. This was NOT what I was expecting. I'm used to getting an actual bowl - I get bowls from Baja Fresh all the time. I really didn't get anything else either.... there was a tiny bit of pico de gallo and some chopped parsley?? The server asked if I needed anything else, but I had Tapatio sauce on the table, so I said, "No." I squeezed the lime over the fish and started eating. It was very dry. I was disappointed with the food. The server came by again and asked if I was doing all right. I asked for some extra lime and squeezed 3 wedges over the fish. That made it a lot better, but still wasn't quite up to par with my expectations. For being known for their fish, I'd have to say I wouldn't want to try other dishes.... =( read more

I love that Wahoo's is vegan-friendly. You can choose tofu or banzai vegetables (large chunks of grilled bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini...) to go in anything - burrito, tacos, bowls, etc. My "go to" at Wahoo's is a bowl - I can get my brown rice, black beans, and a generous portion of banzai vegetables, with or without teriyaki sauce (I go back and forth). This place is consistently good - quick service and perfect taste and temperature of the food. The waitress tells me the onion rings are vegan as well; I'm suspicious that there could be egg in the batter, but I hope not because the onion rings are a reason - all by themselves - to go to Wahoo's. The area around this original Wahoo's is somewhat run down, but go on in - the restaurant is always clean inside. The only change I'd like to see is a move to different "to go" containers. Some sort of biodegradable product would make me feel a lot better (I recently bought paper plates made of sugar cane that can go in the compost.) I really don't care to ever use those foam-type of containers that will be in a landfill for a billion years. I know this doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of the food, but it does affect the overall experience, so please consider a change, Wahoo's. read more

The Salmon Bowl was a big hit as was the Chicken Bowl along with a variety of Ala-carte taco selections. Citrus Slaw was the favorite taco dressing. Some with aole sauce and some without. I go in for CHICKEN tortilla soup. Took it to go. Drove back to work which is a one minute drive. Soup was cold and there was zero chicken in it. WTF. how lazy can you be????? It should have been called COLD CABBAGE WITH 3 CARROTS SOUP. Next time Wahoos heat up your soup and if you call it chicken tortilla soup it must contain chicken. (Major eye roll).
