The 1988 Taco and Crispy Fish Taco
    Jake N.

Absolutely one of the better fast food restaurants around that offers a good fish taco. The chips and salsa we had were okay, chips were nothing special and the salsa had a bit too much oregano as well. The Crispy Fish Taco was really good. The crispy cheese and the cream slaw make the taco pop. I had the 1988 Taco with salmon and the salmon was an overcooked and dry and the other toppings don't meld as well together. Came on taco Tuesday so got some good deals so would definitely come back for the crispy fish taco.

Wahoos is a unique place and one that brings back great California memories for us. You can get a healthy mahi mahi taco or burrito, with steamed veggies, carne asada tacos, butter lime rice and a fresh salsa bar. The restaurant is a bit older and could use a revamp, but it's comfortable and kept reasonably clean. Staff is always friendly and even checks on you after you've gotten your food, which is rare for a fast food place. Though the price is on the higher side of things, it's a great place to grab lunch or dinner on your own or with the family.

Nice healthy options with some fun stuff, too. Would love bigger pieces of fish on the fish taco, but the crunch and the slaw were perfecto!

The appetizers alone are worth the visit, do not skip the spicy tuna crispy rice cakes (perfectly balanced with just the right kick), the edamame (simple but elevated), and the hamachi, which was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. I am still dreaming about that spicy tuna crispy rice cakes!!! The cocktail menu deserves its own spotlight. The rosé spritz was light, refreshing, and dangerously easy to sip, while the margaritas were perfectly crafted and bright, balanced, not overly sweet. Cocktail presentation was A+! The Tajin rim on the margs...next level. For the main course, the salmon was nothing short of perfection, cooked flawlessly and paired with the not-to-be-missed cilantro lime rice, which honestly deserves its own fan club. Absolute chef's kiss. And let's talk sushi, because wow. The mango tango roll was vibrant and flavorful, the torched salmon roll melted in your mouth, and the atomic roll brought just the right amount of heat. Each roll was as beautiful as it was delicious!! Our only regret? Not saving room for dessert. Apparently, the bread pudding is the talk of the town, and after everything else we experienced, we have zero doubt it's as incredible as everyone says. Bottom line: if you haven't been to Smokin Fins yet, go and go hungry. You'll already be planning your next visit before you leave!!

To make matters worse, I realized after getting home that I had been overcharged for a drink. Sigh. So frustrated. Unfortunately, I didn't catch it at the time, but it added to the frustration of the overall experience. It's frustrating to see such a decline from a place we used to really enjoy. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we arrived, and we requested outdoor seating. The hostess was very accommodating, quickly putting two tables together so we could sit outside in the shade on a beautiful Denver evening. The Alaska-inspired menu is fairly limited, but several items sounded appealing, especially the Elk Meatloaf. Our order included: * Bethel Brussels Sprouts ($12) * Elk River Meatloaf ($24) * Seward Caesar with chicken ($15) * Kids Fish & Chips ($9) Let's start with the positives. Service was very good throughout the meal, and our waitress was friendly and accommodating. The Brussels sprouts were a hit with the table -- flavorful and well prepared. The fries served with the fish & chips were hot, crispy. And the dinners were all generously portioned. Unfortunately, the rest of the food ranged from mediocre to disappointing. We were especially looking forward to the elk meatloaf, but both orders arrived extremely dry. The mashed potatoes and gravy were actually quite good, but they couldn't overcome the texture of the meatloaf itself. At least half of each serving was left uneaten. We substituted mixed vegetables for the green beans and found them undercooked, with the carrots still quite hard. The Caesar salad also disappointed, with wilted lettuce, and the fish in the fish & chips was described as bland. The patio itself is pleasant, but it sits directly beside a busy road, so traffic noise can be significant at times. Perhaps we simply ordered the wrong dishes, but given our experience, we were surprised by the restaurant's very high Yelp rating.

Just had bánh ít tràn, a Vietnamese, steamed sticky rice dumplings dish. This dish reminds me of my mom's cooking where she used to make us this dish all the time to eat for breakfast. Lots ingredients inside the these three dumplings including mung bean, wood ear mushroom, jicama carrot, onion, garlic, minced with pork and shrimp. It came with steamed bean sprouts, cucumber, and fish sauce to dip the dumplings or just pour over the dish. I felt the accommodating items didn't add any value to this dish, but boy, did these dumplings bring back good memory. Of course, when you are here, you have to get their small wonton soup. It is one of the best I have ever eaten. I believe the broth that is the star, and the wontons come very close but just a second too late. This small soup is very filling, and I always wonder if adding a bowl of plain rice into the soup will make this dish a complete meal. We will have to find out later. I recommend planning ahead with a reservation, as they can get busy during a dinner rush. We were visiting Colorado for a quick weekend trip and were floored by the food here. It is priced at market value, so I imagine this could vary over time, but they had three tiers for omakase, which I thought were all fairly priced for the amount of food included. We opted for the highest tier, which was $120 pp, and it was incredibly filling with high quality cuts of fish and a thoughtfully curated menu. The sushi chef who took care of us was incredibly kind, and it was clear he put a lot of care into the food he prepared. There was also zero indication whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated, so customers are left awkwardly standing around wondering what's going on.
