The food is soooo yum! My husband didn't even wait for me to take a picture, he started eating the bibim kooksoo (bibim guksu). Service was great! The uncle working the front walked the food out to me when he saw that I went to load up my baby and stroller (I was going to come back to grab my food) very kind of him! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dine in is spacious and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was delicious. Kimchee stew to the House combo B will definitely be back!

Whenever our family goes to Waianae Korean BBQ, it's always a treat. It's so interesting to think that Waianae has decent Korean food, since the coast is not known for a large Korean diaspora. One of the defining factors for me in an East Asian eatery is the quality of their rice. Waianae Korean BBQ does rice right--their rice is perfect, every single time. Hawaii people tend to be satisfied with wet or mushy rice, as long as it's Calrose (medium-grain) rice. But Waianae Korean BBQ goes the extra mile, and they not only use a tasty medium-grain rice, but it is never mushy or clumpy or wet. The ownership is first-generation Korean, and it is always a treat for me to practice Korean with the Korean woman on the phone when she picks up. The food, as a result, reflects a trend I've seen across the board in Hawaii--the ingredients and preparation methods have progressed with the development of South Korea, but the flavors remain reminiscent of old-school Hawaii-Korean food. My go-to is the meat jun & spicy pork combo, with baechu-gimchi (cabbage kimchi), choy sum, japchae (also spelled chapchae, but please know it's not the same as "long rice" as we know chicken long rice in Hawaiian cuisine), and the gamja-bokkeum (shoyu potato). Get the side order of mandoo (mandu) as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I guess because Waianae Korean BBQ was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, the interior was meant to be spacious (maybe to allow for social distancing) and is very barebones (maybe to prioritize to-go and phone orders).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are some tables inside now, but it's still nothing floofy or cutesy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In true Waianae style, there is usually Hawaiian music playing over speakers--nothing really particularly "Korean" or even Asian about the ambiance, but I think that's the owners understanding their clientele.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's more Hannara than it is Million or even Chodang. (Hannara is Korean for "Han (Korean) Nation." Compare that with the name for South Korea in Korean, Hanguk, "Han Country.") [[HIGHLIGHT]]In short, when you come here, although the ambiance and service feel more westside than Korean, the food is surprisingly rooted in Korea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prices are reasonable as well, compared to other locally-owned places, and portions are generous. I've uploaded scans of their takeout menu for those who'd like to see what they offer!

    Belly Pork plate!

Food is ok , chap che or how ever it's spelt , it's not bad but it's missing something, maybe some sesame oil? Service is good , the girl working the register was very helpful and communicated very well and she's cute lol, sorry i couldn't help myself.. [[HIGHLIGHT]]the establishment , they keep it very clean and tidy[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was gonna take my food home to eat but it was so pleasant in there I actually changed my mind and ate inside..[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love how u can see through into the kitchen , I love when restaurants have that, gives u a sense of security knowing that u can see the people cooking your food and what kinda environment the kitchen is in ..[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I notice the. fountain drinks are Pepsi products but I like that the owners buy cans of coke and Coke Zero and sprite for us non Pepsi fans lol..

We stumbled along this hidden gem on our road trip towards Mermaid Cave. We ordered the kalbi combo with kalbi and meat jun. The plate lunch came with a choice of 4 veggie sides, the lady in the front was very friendly and there was a constant flow of people ordering or picking up even thought it was after lunch. The food came out hot and delicious, all the sides tasted extremely fresh. I would come back again if we are in the area.

Another restaurant we just discovered in Waianae.  Absolutely delicious Korean!  I had spicy chicken with two good sides (shoyu potatoes and kimchi) and split meat jun with two others.  Wifey had jap chae which she loved

meat jun plate with a scoop of Mac salad, pinch of bean sprouts, pinch ofmlong rice that had a big onions, and pinch of Kim chee

It's good and has flavors! Way better than the very first time I bought from here and that was a couple years ago. Not sure if new owners or new cook

It's not too spicy and is packed with flavor. I put it on everything. This location in Wai'anae can be pretty busy on the weekend but it's worth the wait, if there is one. Occasionally I come during the week and it is a little calmer. The inside is big and open and has plenty of seating for large families. The service is always good. The food is always consistent and delicious. The broth is my favorite on the westside. Just the right amount of spices. I haven't tried the meat toppings, maybe I will eventually. The tempura veggies is a new fav of mine. The gyoza is stuffed full, perfectly crispy and well flavored. Their spring rolls are crispy light and delicious. I'm gonna order that steak next time for real! Each time I come someone orders it and it smells so good, come sour sizzling and turning everyone's head when it comes out of the kitchen.

(formerly S&S Thai Kitchen at Ka makana ali') My affection for this restaurant is boundless, and there are countless reasons why it stands out as my favorite island eatery. First and foremost, S&S Thai Mini Mart commitment to quality and sustainability is unparalleled. An impressive 70% of their produce is sourced directly from their own farms in Kahuku, ensuring that every dish is as fresh as it is flavorful. The absence of MSG in their cooking is a testament to their dedication to health and authenticity, making every meal a guilt-free indulgence. As a vegan, dining out can sometimes be a challenge, but S&S Thai Mini Mart has always been exceptionally accommodating. Their willingness to customize meals without hesitation is something I've always appreciated. Whether it's adjusting dishes to suit dietary preferences or experimenting with new flavors, their customer service is top-notch. The soul of S&S Thai Mini Mart is undoubtedly its owners, Tammy and Jason. Their love for the community shines through in everything they do, from the warm welcome they extend to every guest to their efforts to give back to the island. Moving to Nanakuli, they've not only continued to offer their authentically authentic Thai dishes but also expanded their menu to include Korean specialties and a variety of market items. This expansion has only added to the charm and appeal of the restaurant, making it a culinary hub for both locals and visitors alike. Let me add they have a good selection of authentic seasonings, sauces, noodles and such. We picked up a thing or two while we were there. Oh! They also have ox tail and other meats and fish! Fresh (frozen though) and very smartly priced. The food was as delicious as ever. I ordered Yellow Curry and Pad Kee Mao. I ate the curry there and it was so creamy, rich and satisfying. The right balance on onions, carrots, potato's oh, my goodness. The Pad Kee Mao is for tomorrow! Spice level four this time. I opted not to go Thai hot this time around. My husband ordered Chicken Pad Thai, his usual at a level one and he said it was spot on. He also ordered spring rolls which he said were savory, not overly oily and seasoned to perfection. It has to be said - S&S Thai Mini Mart is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Thai cuisine, a testament to sustainable farming, and a beacon of community spirit. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and experience the magic of S&S Thai Mini Mart. You'll leave with a full stomach and a full heart. A couple of things to note, they have one table that can seat six. I didn't think to ask Jason if they were planning on more tables. I will say everyone who came in ordered their food to go. They have online ordering which is a breeze with their QR code or you may go to sandsthatkitchen.com DoorDash and Uber Eats are also available. Their hours are seven days a week 10am-8pm. They are right behind McDonals right on the end of the shopping center. 87-2070 Farmington Hwy When you go tell them Deb sent you and enjoy!

After driving along the coast for a bit, we decided to checkout the golf course. Plus I was a bit hungry and of the restaurant was open, we'd dine there. When we first got to the parking lot for Makaha Golf Course we weren't sure if they were open because there were very few cars parked. However, when you ge tour and start walking towards the club house, the view of the mountain range right behind it is spectacular. Upon walking in to the golf course is the Lililoi Lounge with people enjoying a beer and a game and others dining on the patio. We were greeted from the bar and was told we can sit anywhere. We decided to sit in the patio. Before I sat, I headed to the restroom towards the back of the clubhouse. The clubhouse does need a bit of tlc. However walking towards the restroom, I saw the stage and band equipment so it seems they have regular events. But because I'm the area wasn't currently in use, the AC was off and this portion of the clubhouse was a bit stuffy. Interesting enough, the restroom did have the AC on. Although the restroom area is clean, again, it needs modernizing compared to the other golf courses. And it felt a bit eerie in there for some reason so I quickly washed up to get out of there. Despite the clubhouses current condition, I still feel it has its nostalgic charm to it. Walking towards the patio where my sister was seated, you can't help to take in the ocean view, well kept greenery of the golf course with the Waianae Mount range as the backdrop. Browsing the menu, they cater well to the locals and of course it has your golf course morning and afternoon meals. Everything is fairly priced. I got the friend noodle combo with meat jun while my sister got fish and chips, like we didn't have enough of that while we were in Seattle and NZ on the last 3-months. Noodles satisfied my craving. Mac salad was Ono and so was the meat jun. it was a lot of food, so I brought home the meat Jun so i could eat it with rice for dinner. Sister's fish and garlic chips was really good too. When our server brought the check and cleaned up our table, my sister asked her about the instruments. The server said they do have events there and that evening was karaoke night and invited us to join the festivities. But honestly, o just wanted to go home and take a nap. Yup, kanak attack. Servers were super sweet and friendly and you know this is on my list of recommendations to family and friends. I'll be back for sure.
