The small restaurant is in a 2 story building on the street behind Times Waipahu. Lots of parking. My plate was ready early and the hostess was friendly and efficient. There was only one couple there waiting for their food. That was a little sad as I want to see good small local businesses thrive. I got their dinner special, served all day It included a good size strip each of meat jun, kal bi, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, 4 veggies and rice for under $23. All of the food was yummy and plenty for more than 2 meals for me. This whole area is going to be razed soon for a huge affordable housing project. First visit to this old school Korean plate lunch eatery in Waipahu - across from Times on Hikimoe Street. Song's Korean BBQ is open daily from 1030a till 700p daily, except for Sundays when they are closed. Ordered their Meat Jun; this comes with four choices of banchan. $18 and I waited about ten minutes. Sign says takeout only but there was a couple dining inside. Meat Jun was a bit thiccc...regarding the batter...but the beef was (thankfully) thin sliced. Good and mildly seasoned with the accompanying sauce - a sweet shoyu style. Banchan was excellent: I chose pickled daikon, cabbage, sweetened potatoes, and jap chae. Parking stalls available for the shared business in Song's building. This is a hard review to write and I hate giving low star ratings :( My mom and I wanted to try Song's Korean BBQ and we were in the Waipahu area, so we stopped by on our way home. We looked through yelp to see what other yelpers raved about... we decided to get meat jun. We ordered it with no rice so we got an extra banchan side. When we got home, the meat jun portion was very small... 12 pieces to be exact. I read many reviews that their portions were big and enough to feed 2 people so I was a bit bummed because my mom and I were sharing the plate. The pluses are... the lady who took my order was very friendly and the food was SO DELICIOUS. So i'm bummed. I would like to come back tho... but maybe if I don't have to share with mom or if there's something else to order with a slightly bigger portion. I was craving some Korean food and stopped by Song's. Couldn't decide meat jun and kalbi, so I went with the dinner special. Perfect! It has 2 pieces of kalbi, bulgogi, seafood pancake, bbq chicken, and mandoo! Plus 4 choice veggies! Also got Kim chee fried rice for the kiddos. Everything was so delicious and filling! My girls tapped out after eating 1/3 of the fried rice. They enjoyed it and it wasn't too spicy for them. Customer service was excellent! I came here a long time ago before COVID and it was a seat down restaurant. Flash forward a few years after COVID and now this family owned restaurant is only a take out or buy and eat without service restaurant. The restaurant was plagued by the lack of reliable working staff so now just family members are working to run the restaurant and work everyday because of it. The owner's daughter was super friendly and I enjoyed talking to her while waiting for my food. I ordered another add-on order of mandoo which delayed my order from being completed when I arrived. After getting all my food, I went home to eat it. The food is still very good. It honestly is not the best Korean food I have ever eaten but it is still good and the prices are still reasonable. My darling child is visiting from the east coast. I asked him to make note of all of the places it was important to visit, and of course Song's was at the top of the list for restaurants. This has been our favorite Korean BBQ for well over a decade, and will stay that way for a very long time. My standard order is a Meat Jun mixed plate, with the second selection usually being spicy bbq chicken. When I'm feeling decadent I ask for the Big Bone Kalbi, which is excellent and so hard to find in most places. Post COVID the restaurant is take out only, though they will occasionally allow people to eat there if there's a good reason and they have the space. They simply no longer offer ceramic plates and assorted sides and now use the few tables for food prep or storage. Now it's up to you to pick your favorite four sides instead of having some of each available. Portions are generous, so plan to make a second meal out of your choices. I guess you could share instead, but then you'd have to coordinate with a friend who wants similar things. I've tried that and prefer to have the entire thing to myself. The wonderful family who runs this neighborhood favorite is just lovely. They've built a wonderful rapport with their customers and it's so nice to see the interaction while waiting for the freshly made food. So yesterday was my 1st time checking this place out. I decided on the Kalbi plate and that was a good choice. Their Kalbi is so flavorful and so soft. Their plates comes with 3 pieces Kalbi, 4 choice vegetables, rice, and 2 pieces of Korean pancake. When I first opened it I thought "wow skimping on the sides." For banchan I order the shoyu potato, japchae, kimchi, and cucumber kimchi. The lunch special is from 10-3pm and Song's offers a BBQ chicken, mandoo, and BBQ beef combo for $11.99. The dinner special is offered all day and its $19.50 for kalbi, chicken, BBQ beef, meat jun, and mandoo. Out front it does say "Take out only" but apparently from other Yelp reviews, that may be a relic from peak Covid past. I've always got my food to go here- but I've both called in and ordered there. Craving some Korean food and coming from Waipio Soccer Complex made me yelp some restaurants on the way home and BOY I'm so happy Yelp brought this place up as a suggestion!!! Currently it's take out only with the pandemic and their hours are from 1030am-7pm. The lady who answered who was also the cashier was very prompt, polite, and answered questions that I had for her as it was our first time trying out this place. Not knowing they closed at 7pm, I placed my take out order around 6:25pm and was quoted a 15 minute time and it was ready for picked up in a box when I arrive at 6:46pm. We were also greeted immediately upon entry. A lot of their tables are pushed to the side as they are not doing dine in service. The place looks like a family run restaurant and felt happy to support as I could see their child's toys in the area! As for the food. Hot and fresh by the time we got home. We ordered a meat jun kalbi combo that came with 4 choices of sides AND 2 piece pancake! It's hard to fine Korean restaurants that still offer Korean pancake as an included side now days. Also, order of mandoo, seafood pancake, and bibimbap. The mandoo was flavorful, meat jun had a great texture (not too eggy and had good amount of meat), seafood pancake was thinly sliced but chunks of seafood meats popping out with each bite, and the bibimbop was a hit. I personally don't eat bibimbop but my boyfriend inhaled it which self explains itself that it's GOOD. As for take out drinks they offer canned soda or bottles of water.
