We had the typical Hawaiian traveller's dilemma: we had to check out by 11 am, and of course, we were on a red-eye night flight back home. We didn't want to rent a car the last day, so what would we do with our luggage on the last day? The condo we stayed at would not store our bags, as this was not a hotel, so Paradise Transport solved this problem easily for us. I called and was told baggage pick up would be $20 for 2 bags for the day. A fee of $15 would apply for bag drop off that evening, but if we booked them for airport transport, the fee would be waived. We needed a ride to the airport anyway, and were charged the low price of $18 each. The pickup lady for our bags was on the minute punctual, cheerful and the SUV type van she drove was a newer model and spotlessly clean inside. Our airport ride driver was early, cheerful, and we could not have asked for better service as well as a smooth, safe ride to the airport. Call these people first, for baggage storage, or airport transportation! Mahalo :-D

When I provided proof that both luggages were less than what she claimed, the employee simply said that it's their policy to measure from the wheel to the handle instead of the actual luggage size and commenting "if I didn't think the luggage too heavy then [I'm] welcome to carry the luggage with me" while knowing fully well that it's not an option to do so. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because they at least kept my luggage safe for a short duration even though they overcharge and had unpleasant attitude.

We flew in on Monday and checked into a room with dirty sheets. Not exactly the welcome you expect. That evening, we saw a notice saying the water would be shut off the next day from 9:00-11:00 a.m. We spent the morning at the beach and the small pool. One odd thing to note: to get to the pool, you have to walk through Duke's outdoor dining patio in your wet swimsuit while people are eating. It's a very strange layout. The bigger problem was that the water was still off after 1:00 p.m. There were no working toilets, sinks, or showers, and even the hallway ice machine wasn't working because there was no water. We complained to the front desk and were simply told there was nothing they could do. The next morning, we were awakened at 6:00 a.m. by loud hammering overhead, followed by power tools starting around 8:30 a.m. When we stepped onto our balcony, construction debris was actually falling from the floor above. In the hallway, water was leaking through a ceiling light fixture. Security acknowledged the leak and said someone was coming to address it. The front desk acted as though this was the first they had heard of the construction. They insisted it was happening on the 10th floor, nowhere near our room on the 6th floor. I walked upstairs myself and immediately found a crew of construction workers gathered outside the elevator on the 7th floor--yelling to one another, hammering, with construction materials and debris everywhere. Clearly, the hotel knew there was active construction directly above occupied guest rooms. The next day the noise started at 5:30am. We called the desk and they said security was putting a stop to it. When I went downstairs security had no idea. Rowena at the front desk gave me the manager's business card, but every call went straight to voicemail. I was told the manager would arrive at 8:30 a.m. I never received a return call. This hotel is poorly managed. If construction is taking place directly above guest rooms, those rooms should not be rented. Between the dirty sheets, extended water outage, nonstop construction noise, falling debris, and lack of management response, this was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I've experienced. Also my courregges vintage sunglasses went missing from our room and I'd really like them back and credit for this memorable disappointment. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The lobby is beautiful, the oceanarium incredible, the FULL TIME OCEANARIUM STAFF so kind and knowledgeable, the pool with LIVE MUSIC is amazing, there's guest laundry, and the location and views are stunning. All of the staff are incredibly kind. Everyone greets you, smiles, remembers you, asks how you're enjoying the stay and about you, and so on. They really go out of their way to make you feel like you're special and somewhere special, even though this is a 60-ish (?) floor giant hotel across two buildings with a constant flow of a ton of guests. The pool staff and oceanarium staff in particular were very kind and patient with my *spirited* kid, and for example a bellhop in the elevator with us greeted us with a huge smile and asked about our stay. A lot of the reviews mention a "mixed clientele," and this is very true and part of the fun for me. There are a lot of locals, tourists from all over the world, families with kids of all ages, a younger party crowd, and girls trip type guests. I saw some obvious "fancy VIPs" roll up for valet parking and private greetings from the staff too. Everyone is in a good mood and very polite and kind--all the guests greet one another, say bye on the elevator, hold doors, and so on. We were on the 32nd floor and had an INCREDIBLE view of the ocean and Waikiki. That said, if I were to go back for a visit I'd try to check out the Beachside tower I've heard is slightly nicer as yes our room in the Seaside tower (the giant 40 story one slightly farther back) was cleaned daily and very clean on the surface, but the curtains, lampshades, and bed frame all quite stained, and it does have popcorn ceiling that was peeling in the corner. I think totally fine for someone staying a week and out and about for the entire day, but this was more of a logistical stay for us and not really where I enjoyed working during the day and eating meals with my kid. That said, you really can't go wrong. You're across the street from the beach, views are wonderful, staff is wonderful, and the lobby and pool are incredible. Oh and the fitness center is really nice and fun, overlooking the oceanarium tank! The recreation deck (can you tell my kid and I were out and about everywhere around this place lol) on the 9th floor is a great spot rarely used by anyone else to take some space or let little kids just run around. From other reviews and the vibe I got as well, this is not a good spot if you expect constant staff attention, policing of other guests, and instant service--it's more of a bustling, explore-and-enjoy little mini city within a city. For example, my kid asked a worker if splashing is allowed at the pool, and the staff member told him he'd give him a big ice cream sample if he didn't splash, lol! Like they are doing customer service for probably 3000 guests, so just smile, tip well, and enjoy.
