The bartender was friendly and let me taste test their St. Arnold Root Beer, which was good-- but I ended up ordering an Angry Orchard cider instead. The wakefield crowbar staff is a joke. First point, all there bartenders drink on the job. Second, i can guarantee they have never seen a licensee outside of a Texas license. I am from New York state originally and have just moved to Texas. The Staff refused to serve me because they claim that a license has holograms which my New York state license does. So i was denied service cuz the hick staff owners have never been outside if Texas. Do i have to get a drink with my passport?? Ridiculous. Volleyball and drinking, perfect match. One of the few bars that has a volleyball court attached to it. They have two courts, both in great condition although the sand is bit deeper than I prefer. Water in a cooler near by and a hose to rinse off gives you all you need for some good vball. Throw in some alcoholic beverages and you got yourself a hoot of a good time. There is also cornhole and darts for those who enjoy some more typical bar games. The place has an inside area as well. Nice and cold to cool off from the hot heat playing vball. Decent selection of beers, a couple of more specialty type drinks, and a menu of bar foods to give you nutrients. I don't know how I haven't come to Wakefield Crowbar earlier since I live, like, 5 minutes away from here, but I'm glad my friends and I decided to check it out! We actually came to watch the NBA playoffs (it was a good run, Rockets...), but I came late after my friends had ordered food. My friend's Cobb salad arrived as I did, which looked really good. Even though salad is probably one of the last things I would ever order at a bar, I decided on the Pacific Rim since my friend was chomping away on her salad. The salad was really good, especially the ginger-based dressing. My biggest issue with it, though, was that it was overdressed. Partially my fault, since it slipped my mind to order the dressing on the side. Oh well, I still finished the entire thing... After the game ended, we headed outside to partake in the porch festivities, including a couple rounds of cornhole and shyly asking a group of folks if we could join their sand volleyball game, in which they obliged. What was supposed to be hitting the ball around turned into playing matches for several hours on end, but we were totally ok with that. Keep in mind: sand. Gets. Everywhere. I first came to this bar to play in a Houston sports and social volleyball league. They have two sand volleyball courts with surrounding outside seating. It's a great place for a league since your team can hang out pre or post game and have food and a few drinks, and they offer drink discounts to league members wearing their shirt. The inside is nice with a decent amount of tables and various seating arrangements. They also just opened a second room which is more of a lounge type area, but I haven't seen it is use yet. They also started trivia on Wednesdays which is fun due to the smaller attendance than most other trivia nights. The drink selection is very good and they have a decent menu. The burgers and wings are delicious, and the side salads are huge. (Not a fan of the chicken fingers however, they are very heavy and beer battered). I really like this bar and it's a good place to hang out with a group and have dinner, drinks, play volleyball darts, etc. read more

I think this review is going to be somewhat unique. I want to like this place more but I can't get past something I saw a few weeks back. My friend and I were sitting at the bar and we noticed two patrons in particular stiff the bar staff on a tip numerous times after asking for drinks. I inquired and was told they were regulars to the bar and friends of the owners. According to the server I spoke with, these two customer in particular run up huge tabs, never once tip and the owner seems to be fine with it all. For me, this is a big deal as it's a function of how a place is managed. Food is good, beer selection is killer but if you don't have a happy front of the house, it's a big deal for someone like me who was in the business for a while. The Crowbar is a decent addition to the neighborhood, but it doesn't really do anything as well as other places in the area. The craft beer selection is quite good, but the best in the neighborhood (and perhaps even in the city) is just across the street at Petrol Station. (Granted, you'll have a lot tougher time parking there than you will at the Crowbar.) Even so, the beer selection merits four stars. What doesn't measure up is the food, and it's a real low point. It's basic pub food--burgers, sandwiches, etc.--and not particularly different from any place else. It's also just not particularly good. The fries are of the obviously frozen variety and the burgers are just okay. Not horrible, but not good enough to get anyone excited. Service has been decent enough on the occasions I've been there. I don't think the staff is particularly knowledgeable, but if you know what you're after, they'll get it for you. So the gloss is that the Crowbar is good, but not great. One of the more solid places in Houston for a bite to eat, some good brews, and great atmosphere. Just outside the Loop, tucked back on Wakefield Drive near Petrol Station (another legit place), it has everything you could really want from a bar. They have about 20 beers on tap at any given time and they range from super commercial Bud Light and Shiner to the brand new local crafts like Eureka Heights Moo Caliente (great beer btw)! They run happy hour specials Monday through Friday from 4-8pm where the domestic drafts are $3 and select house wines are too. The menu has recently expanded which is a good thing, but that also means that I haven't tried everything they have to offer yet. From what I have tried, everything is fantastic. Food is a bit pricey, but worth it. The burgers are fantastic: large, sweet buns, loaded with fresh and deliciously complimentary toppings. The appetizers are all tasty too. And finally, the "main" attraction to Crowbar is probably the three full size beach volleyball courts. People are always there playing and they run recreational leagues on the weeknights. They have cornhole, darts, large outdoor patios that are dog-friendly, and trivia on Monday nights. Pretty much everything you could want in a local bar. I came here with a buddy to watch the UT at Oklahoma St. game a couple of Saturdays ago. This establishment is currently the Texas Exes Houston Chapter football game watching location. We got a good spot at the bar with a nice view of one of the many televisions. They appear to staff enough bar personnel so that there isn't a ridiculous wait to get a beer or a drink. We tried various beers during our visit. The beer selection isn't the greatest in the world, but still respectable. And they don't try to give you a frosty glass, which is a plus as well for me. Additionally, I did not find any off flavors due to poorly maintained beer lines. Kudos to them for that as there is nothing worse than ordering a beer you like and having it ruined by old, nasty beer lines. At one point early on while there, I ordered the chicken tenders (or strips?). Although not impressed at all by them, I ate them pretty quick because I was quite hungry having not eaten since earlier in the day. When grabbing my plate, I mentioned to one of the bartenders that the chicken tenders were not impressive and described what was wrong with them (too bready, the chicken was "rubbery", etc.). Having already eaten them, I wasn't trying to get them for free. I just wanted to provide some feedback. Later on, I had a long conversation with the kitchen manager, Victor. A very cool guy who is passionate about what he does. Much to my surprise, he ended up bringing out a couple of chicken tenders that were supposedly cooked the proper way. They were delicious and in no way like the ones I had originally. I thought it was a cool gesture on his part. I was not impressed by this place. The waitress was NOT the brightest crayon in the box.... They make you 'open a tab' and take your credit card when you even just order food. I get it, they don't want people walking on their tickets... (maybe?) but thats just annoying. Please don't bring me my check before you've even brought me my beer, and then expect me to have signed it and tipped you before my food even gets there. It took us longer to get beers for 4 of us than it did for our food to come out, also annoying. Oh and the waitress brought one us the wrong beer. It wasn't even close!! Some apple cider drink that smelled like apple juice vs. a dark beer? really?...... In all fairness, the food wasn't half bad, and like I said, it did come out pretty fast. This place is a block from our Krav gym. We've been twice now as a group. First time we got the spaghetti w/ meat sauce, added sausage and the server recommended we add sautéed onions/peppers/shrooms. Now, I wouldn't typically order spaghetti in a restaurant, let alone a bar? But it was excellent!! Service was quick and friendly. Second time service was slowwwwww and half our table ordered food at the bar and had it half eaten before the rest gave up waiting and went up to order at the bar too. Absolutely terrible service! BEWARE OF POSSIBLE RACISM AGAINST ASIAN WOMEN! When we arrived, I sat down beside my friend & immediately, we noticed that the young black woman who was bartending named Christina would not acknowledge me even though she would serve others who would come up to the bar after I did. I even tried waving at her a couple of times & saying "excuse me ma'am." My husband was on the other side of the bar & she went up to him & after he ordered his drink, he sent her to me & that was the only reason she finally came up to me. I ordered a glass of wine & was surprised at the small amount that she put in front of me. I asked her how many ounces it was & she said 6 oz & shrugged. All I drink is wine, So I definitely know what 6 oz looks like & that was not it. Coincidentally, another girl ordered wine too & my friend and I watch as she poured A LOT more wine in her glass. I called Christina back which was again difficult to do because she doesn't really pay attention to me, and once she finally came, I politely informed her that my friend & I noticed how much wine she put in the other girl's glass. She gave me a stern look but told me it wouldn't be a problem & went ahead and put a little more wine in my glass. My husband and I typically drink the same things all the time. He has vodka and I have wine. When we closed out, unfortunately, I didn't check the receipt right away. But I checked the receipt tonight & was surprised at the amount. As we looked at the itemized receipt, Christina had added food and margaritas into our tab! My husband and I did not eat there-- we only had wine and his usual vodka. I called the bar and lo and behold, Christina answers! I asked for a manager, and she introduced herself as the manager. I told her what happened and she immediately defended herself and said that just because her name is on the ticket, doesn't mean that she was the one serving everything to us. FYI-- no one else served us that day except her! But clearly, she didn't want to hold herself accountable. She told me to give my name, ticket number, and phone number, and she would have someone look into it and call me in a couple of days. I told her that if she is the manager, why doesn't she have access to rectify the issue now. She told me that she does not have access. I asked for the name of the owner and she told me Chad Perez. I was asking her how to spell it and she just stayed silent. I asked if there was another manager and she said that there are. The funny thing is every time I ask for something, she doesn't want to elaborate so I just have to keep asking detailed questions. It's very clear that she's trying to just not get in trouble! I asked to speak with another manager and she said that there was no other managers there that night. Beware of coming to this place! Not sure what Christina's problem was with me because as soon as I got there, I was just all smiles and having a good time with my girlfriend. I don't know if she's just racist against Asian women, or what her issue is, but I definitely didn't need to be treated that way and now, I honestly don't know if she screwed up our check on purpose. I like this place a whole lot! My first time was this past Friday night and it was an awesome experience. The bar and the food is very good! They have a ton of beer on draught and pretty good selection of food. The main reason I went was because I was meeting some people to play volleyball. Of course, what I got was an awesome experience! Before I started playing Vball, I enjoyed the fried pickles and Reuben sandwich, both were awesome! Any bar that offers Left Hand Milk Stout is an awesome bar in my book! My bf and I recently headed over to Wakefield Crowbar in Oak Forest with some of our kickball teammates for food and drinks after a game. We ordered fried pickles, fried mozzarella, potato skins, and hummus & veggies to share with the table. In my running list of "Reasons to Live in Houston," I'd have to say fried pickles has had a consistent, snug spot in the top 10. And these fried pickles surely did not disappoint. In chip form, these golden, Lonestar beer battered, fried beauties were more on the sour side, which was a welcoming change of pace. I was a big fan! The fried mozzarella appetizer was also unique in that it came in the form of four large squares, instead of your usual sticks. The hearty squares were super crispy and filled to the brim with oozing mozzarella. The homemade marinara served alongside the squares was warm and not overpowering in flavor. I didn't go nuts over the potato skins, but then again my (veg) portion of them didn't have bacon, so yes this was basically my fault. Without the bacon to cut through, they were a little too heavy on the starch. They weren't bad - I certainly still ate some, but I probably shouldn't have messed with perfection! Lesson learned. The large portion of hummus, served with vegetables and warm, fluffy pita bread, was quite satisfying. The slightly tart hummus had a chunky texture (I love textured foods) and a surprising kick of heat towards the end of every bite. Nothing revolutionary, but it definitely differed from the norm and was well received by the table! Wakefield Crowbar is a super laid back, spacious neighborhood bar. It also has volleyball courts out back, which can definitely make for a good time! Houston bars cannot afford to serve mediocre food since there are so many great options around, like Wakefield Crowbar. Wakefield Crowbar offers your standard pub fare at a reasonable price, and the food is of good quality, with a few unique twists thrown in! read more

The bread on the burgers, or at least The Wakefield Burger, was absolutely one of the best breads on a burger I've ever eaten. Top 3 for sure. The fries were great too! I cannot stand Long Island Iced Teas, but theirs was actually really good but extremely strong! (I'm a light weight with mixed drinks.) So apparently Crow Bar opened a little under a week ago. It's pretty awesome inside. They have a HUGE selection of beer; including crafts, imports and domestics. Not to mention....it's competitively priced unlike some of the other Wakefield bars. Parking is kind of a drag to be honest, but if you like the Wakefield scene...that's not something that is new to you. There are 2 adjacent parking lots...one that is directly in front of the bar and one that is directly in front of...you didn't guess it...their 2 outdoor sand volleyball courts. This is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen at a bar. The outdoor patio wraps around the volleyball courts and the courts are lit up so long as the bar is open. I didn't get to try the food...but the menu looks pretty good. Not to mention, they do have designer-type cupcakes for sale at the bar for when you get a little tipsy and want something sweet to chow down on. There is a dart board inside. When I was here this past Saturday evening, it was the younger heights-type crowd. Mid-20's to early 30's professionals just looking for a place to kick back with a cold one. Let me preface this by saying I have been to this place about 12 times, this is not the first. That being said, the food is good, the prices are fair and the atmosphere is great. My review is specifically about last night that I went, and I will probably never return again because of it. My buddy and I went to watch the Texans game and went to the bar for a drink. They were busy because of Houston Sports Social VolleyBall games, but nothing crazy. The bartender was a brunette female and when she asked what I wanted to drink, I asked what IPA's they had on tap. She said a few and I asked for a sample of 2 of them because I always like to try something new when I can. She gave me an eye roll as though I was asking something ridiculous and got the samples quickly with like half foam in the cup and handed them to me, spouting off the names quickly and then immediately turning her back to me and starting to tend to other customers. It took another 5 minutes to get her to come back to me and I ordered and kept my tab open- again the whole time she was just extremely rude. 20 minutes goes by and I go up to bar again to place order for burger. I ALWAYS order a burger with bacon and egg on top, which in this case for Crowbar is the RawHide. She was half paying attention to me and half talking to another customer and proceeded to put the order in. 25 minutes later the burger comes out, and it is the mushroom burger, which is the Fun Guy. The waiter handed it to me and I said oh no I'm sorry this is not what I ordered, I got the RawHide and she was very nice and said ok we'll get it fixed. 15 minutes later and I'm still waiting - for a grand total of 40 minutes waiting on a burger. So I go to the bar again and the bartender is there and asks me what I need - and I said I just wanted to check on my burger. She goes into her computer and then turns back to me and says "well you sent the burger back so they have to remake it". I responded and said yes, I ordered the Rawhide and got a different burger. She proceeded to have the audacity to say " no you ordered the Fun Guy and didn't want it". That's when I lost my cool and was like no, I've been here over 10 times and I always order the Rawhide. She looked me square in the eyes and then said "No, you ordered the Fun Guy and it will be out in 10 minutes or so, you need to chill out". If there has ever been a time where I wanted to jump over the counter, this was it. I walked away, but was absolutely appalled by the way this bartender handled the situation and treated me as a customer. It was utter disrespect and horrendous customer service. 10 minutes later the burger comes out and it was good as usual, but I waited 50 minutes for that burger, and would have gone to a thousand other places over being treated like the way I did by that bartender I worked through High school and college in the food service industry so I'm familiar with how to treat customers, and how the front of house and back of house operates. I understand there are delay times and when the bartender checked my ticket on her POS ( point of sale) kiosk, she could have seen the ticket time and seen how long I had been waiting. Even if it was the correct burger, 40 minutes to wait on a burger is forever. She could have said something along the lines of oh I'm sorry it's taking so long, we're working on it and it should be out within 10 minutes. That would have been enough for me honestly. But for her to turn it around, tell me I was the one who refused the burger and it was on me and that I somehow didn't order the right burger and needed to chill out was over the top uncalled for. That service experience alone makes me want to never give Crowbar my money again - or organize group functions there. There are plenty of great eateries in town to have to worry about dealing with such awful customer service. read more

It's always a hit and miss with places and their steak night and that's OK until I got the bill the steak was not $10 but a different price so always look at the bill before you pay it off.
