Love the food here and the servers are always really nice. the banana pudding is fantastic and so are the brisket fries (and so is everything else I've ever ordered- you can't go wrong) I come here for trivia every now and then and usually if the answer he has on the screen is wrong and someone tells him (with proof, of course) he'll be like "ok cool yeah nvm, for anyone who answered xyz y'all will get those points" but for some reason tonight one of the answers he put up was wrong and everyone started booing him (lmao) and then later someone went up to him and was like hey here's something that proves the answer you put is wrong and he was like "I'm not taking any comments, my answers are final" like get off your high horse dude. my friends got pretty annoyed so we ended up leaving after the third round or so. Had a blast here. Staff was great and the service was really fast. We had a birthday there and they let us set up a obstacle course for one of our friends birthdays. My husband and I absolutely love coming here--it's become one of our favorite spots to unwind and enjoy a great night out. I met a friend at Moonshine Deck for dinner and drinks on my recent visit to Houston! I loved the fun atmosphere and instagrammable decorations. Not only do they have an outdoor with misters but they also have yard games to play which is fun for groups. While we were there, they had a live DJ which was fun but the music was way too loud. We kept moving tables to get further away in hopes of being able to hear one another. The bartenders and servers were nice and quick to take our order. While there, we ordered the following: - Beer (hard to go wrong) - Brisket Quesadillas: I can't say enough good things about these. Finally checked this out mid-November. Can't believe it took me so long to check this place out considering it's near my neck of the woods. Located on W 19th street with a murderer's row of other bars/drinking spots, I found this one as one of the better ones, especially for watching sports and grabbing brunch. So interior-wise, it's quite roomy with a good amount of space. One side of the place has bar tables and high top counters; the other side has U-shaped booths allowing comfortable seating for groups and parties. TVs are also lined up in front of the booths so if you're with a group, you can select which game/event you all want to watch. There's TVs alll around the bar as well so finding your sporting event is no issue here. Great for NFL Sunday. Also plenty of outdoor seating as well with heaters in case you Texans think it's "cold". Being from the east coast, I've never seen heaters turned on unless you could see your own breath in the wind. Guess it's different here. Enough of that, moving onto the drink options, beer and cocktails are the specialty here. Beer selection ranges from locals to domestics and they have beer towers. Cocktails are also unique, I had the infused smoked ol fashion which is one of the better ol' fashions I've imbibed in. Also did an espresso martini since I needed some caffeine with my alcohol, gave a nice perk-up after guzzling miller lites and bloody marys. Cocktails aren't cheap so be prepared to poney up the $$$ if you get one (or multiple). Brunch cocktails (mimosas and bellinis) can be part of the beer tower allowing the customer to pour however much they want. Kinda cool for brunch! As for brunch, I ordered the brisket benedict with a side of fruit. Not a bad entree, the brisket was flavorful with the egg yolk running down. However they presented it sandwich style. Wished they had both parts of the muffin open-faced like traditional benedicts but I had no idea. Still finished it. Other brunch dishes looked tasty including the sirloin hash, french toast, and chicken biscuits. I'll have to dabble in one of those next time. Had some friendly bartenders who are attentive and work as a team. Looks like a fun workplace as they are chatty and enjoy engaging with the patrons and regulars. My experience with Moonshine Deck has gotten significantly worse since when I visited when they first opened. On my most recent visit, I will acknowledge that the bar was packed, however I was left waiting to order a drink for so long that I ended up leaving empty handed. Many customers who arrived after me were served before I was even acknowledged. Cherry on top was while I was patiently waiting to order, the bartender openly poured vodka into a Redbull for himself and proceeded to shotgun it in the middle of the bar. Clientele is rude. Not only did several customers push past me to order but a man playing Jenga outside knocked over my full drink resting on a table and told me it wasn't his problem. If I could give zero stars, I would. I had one of the most disappointing dining experiences here. I ordered a sandwich that arrived lukewarm. When I took a bite and realized it wasn't hot enough, I politely sent it back to the kitchen to be remade. To my shock, instead of preparing a fresh sandwich, they literally brought back the exact same one I had already bitten into--just microwaved. You could still see the bite mark, and the bread was rubbery from the microwave. This is not only unprofessional, but also unsanitary and disrespectful to the customer. We've visited on a Saturday night and enjoy the less hectic, midweek hangout vibe far better. The DJ is friendly, and the music selection is fantastic also. The service during each of our visits has been pretty good, and the food here is sneakily delicious. What I mean by that is that we were expecting and (hoping for) good bar food here, and MD far exceeded our expectations. The flavors are pretty spot on, and they're consistent. Paid $33 dollars (plus tip) for a bucket of Miller Lite and the beers were not cold at all (too late to request new ones by the time we got to the table and started drinking them). This Heights newcomer offers lots of room to hang out and enjoy a beverage or few with friends; an expansive inside, outside, and covered patio is available so you should be able to find a spot with no issue. There are about 30 free self-parking spots available when you enter off of 20th St, valet for the rest (or whatever street parking you can find in this crowded area). I didn't have any food during my visit, but several others in our party did and it looks like your standard bar fare (wings, quesadillas, loaded fries, etc). For drinks, I tried the Paloma (on-tap and happy hour special), frozen screwdriver (recommended by the bartender, also on happy hour special, but small in portion since it is served in a martini glass), and the Topo Chico grapefruit ranch water (pricey IMO, but aesthetically pleasing for the 'gram). Maybe I am out of touch, but I thought some of the drinks were on the pricier side while others were on par with what you expect at a bar (ex: $10 for a Topo Chico ranch water seems steep while $5 happy hour cocktails is a great deal). I did appreciate the attentiveness of our server and her ability to handle our large group with no issues in billing at the end (side note: so glad to see more places like Moonshine Deck offering tableside bill splitting/card swiping!). My review is probably more of a 3.5, but I can't quite pinpoint something to help me round up to a 4. I would certainly come back, but I won't necessarily be rushing given the plethora of other spots to explore in the area. read more

I like moonshine deck. Me and my friends always seem to end up here. I like the outdoor area, and I especially love playing cornhole. The inside area is nice, but just ok. It's a little small inside. Mostly young people there. Usually the bar is pretty busy on the weekends. On the weekdays, it's pretty empty. It's pretty easy to find a table though. I haven't gotten drinks/food from here before so I can't speak to that. I'll update this review if I ever get drinks. Overall, I like going to moonshine deck & would go again with my friends. I've been to Moonshine at least a half dozen times. Here are the highlights: good for watching games, good happy hour drink specials, horrible for food and horrible for service. Every time I'm underwhelmed by the food and leave with a stomach ache. I think the bar needs to focus on what they're good at- being a sports bar- and leave the food to food trucks. On my most recent visit we ordered fried pickles for $10.50. They came out soaking in oil (see photo) and with no napkins. We order frickles a lot, we've never seen a literal pool of grease on the plate. It's unappetizing and frankly just sloppy. I recently moved to Houston from Las Vegas in June of '22. When my wife and I moved here, we didn't know many places around town that had a good sports atmosphere, where it was trendy / lively. When we heard about Moonshine Deck, we decided to give it a shot, and we're so glad it was the first bar in the heights we visited. It easily became our favorite place for college football, NFL, Astros games, or even trivia. The night the Astros won the series we were in the heights, and the energy felt like we were in Minute Maid watching the game. Even on a busy night, the service was great, everyone was friendly and accommodating to us. Somehow sea of people, they even got our order of food out to us on time. Best bar in the Heights, IMO! Went to Moonshine the other night, and I liked the vibe quite a bit. It was a unique fusion, where it felt relaxed almost like a beer garden, but at the same time, felt like you were sitting near a hype dance club people watching (with the style of music and shiny lights). There is quite a bit of outdoor seating area (two deck levels), and for when it is hot, there is a lot of inside room as well. This is the kind of place where you could imagine starting a night at around 8pm. From the cocktail menu, I had the Apple Pie (which was AMAZING and very unique)... I was very surprised in fact because I thought that the Apple Pie infused Moonshine could end up overpowering the drink, and it didn't!
