My friends and I went here in March for St. Patricks Day after all the other bars had closed and I would not recommend. The drinks were bad (dr pepper in a margarita), service was slow and the crowd was interesting to say the least. My friend was sitting in a chair and an hour later the chair bottom completely gave out and she was cut/bruised from the chair (she has scars from it). Not a single employee bat an eye when this happened so I can only imagine what they do bat an eye at. Tokyo Joe's has been open since 2001. After a couple years of passing by it to eat and drink at neighboring restaurants and bars, it was cool to check it out. Walking in, it felt like those frat parties in West Campus at UT Austin. Takes me baaaack for sure. They were bumpin' some Usher in the house, probably cause he was in town a few days over the past weekend at Toyota Center. Artwork is an eclectic mix of anime and a techy Mona Lisa drinking a Red Bull. There's a folding table out in the open space beside the bar to play beer pong. Restrooms were actually a decent size with more than 5-6 stalls in the women's restroom and lots of mirrors to check yourself out and fix whatever needs fixing after taking a couple shots. Not many cocktail options, but it is a shot bar, so that's where the focus lies. They have unique flavors like PB&J and funny names like Pink Panty Dropper. I thought purple Gatorade would taste medicinal like Dimetapp, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't like grape flavored things for that reason. It was just a light grape taste like watered down grape Kool-Aid. The Arnold Palmer shot tasted as expected like the real thing with a splash of alcohol. The Pink Panty Dropper was my fave and tasted like a jolly rancher. Not much seating except a few around the bar. Arcades and things were upstairs. We tried the green tea shot, sake bomb, and another one I can't remember. The shots themselves were wayyy too sweet and sugary. Ambiance is pretty nice- 2 stories and the second story has some seating options and a small basketball game and some vending machines and a photo booth. Everything was pretty expensive price to what you get wise. Music leaned towards the younger side. I think this location has potential, but the shots are more on the pricey side and can be kind of dead. We went for Halloween and was surprised with how empty it was. read more

I would avoid at all costs unless you like not well made shots. I'm perplexed how you call yourself a shots bar and have a very minimal selection of shots. All the shots were super sugary. I forgot the name of the one we got but it was horrible. It was like shooting syrup. The service was subpar. The bartender wasn't attentive at all. Had a wonderful time tonight! My to go spot downtown was closed and me and my friends went and found this bar! Austin was so sweet and so funny. Had the whole place to ourselves and he just made it such a blast. I enjoyed the shots and the vibe was so chill. Will definitely be bringing my friends next time we go out now. First impressions was it smelled funky and looked dirty to me. The night we came, it was pretty packed, Floors were wet. Napkins all over the place. A couple of us broke off and went upstairs which was a little more chill. There were games up there with some seating and a great view to people watch. Once I started observing, the napkins are thrown by the bartenders. Seems wasteful but it hyped the crowd up. Music was good and the crowd was dancing. Drinks were spendy considering there are nicer bars in the area. Overall, this wasn't a horrible spot, but I would only return if invited. read more

This is a high energy cocktail bar with limited, mainstream beers. The decor here is trippy and most of the action occurs after 11pm. Parking lot is tiny and you won't find a spot unless you come early. The bar is nice and big but you won't find a seat if it's late into the night. There is a bouncer on weekends so common sense attire is required. It's only been open a few months, they told me the local residents complain a lot about noise so they are likely giving bad reviews online. My only complaint was the $16.6 average cost of a drink here based on my tab. This is somewhere you go with friends to close the night out. read more

It has arcades upstairs (just a handfull of games), a automatronic dragon head on one side of the room and I remember they had a ping pong table there one time with above average size beer pong game (which honestly got a bit chaotic). I don't usually like to post negative but one is necessary. People be aware! This place is atrocious! Went in with a group of people and safe to say none of us will ever return. The staff is beyond flirtatious and one of the owners who was there was shit faced and acting beyond inappropriate. The crowd is sketchy. Overall, I have been to many bars and clubs in Houston and have never felt uncomfortable - this place made me feel unsafe. My neighborhood bar makes better shots than what you get here. Great bar with lots of potential. Heard this place gets a most of their business towards the end of the night and gets pretty crowded, but I was there on a Wednesday night so it was nice to enjoy the place without having to be shoulder to shoulder with other people. Their specialty shots are great but a little pricey, but for what its worth they are larger than an average serving. Would be nice to see this place up their social media presence since it was hard to find info or a drink menu before I went.
