Tried the steak, it was a suggestion from the barkeeper, told me it was $10 and I thought what a great deal. The steak was completely dry I had more fat than actual beef the bake potato I got cold and the veggies were OK. It's always a hit and miss with places and their steak night and that's OK until I got the bill the steak was not $10 but a different price so always look at the bill before you pay it off. There are two professional sand volleyball courts outside, from what I hear, there's 3 feet of sand underneath your toes while you are enjoying a competitive game. After sweating a gallon of water in Houston summer, you can replenish with a myriad of beers. The inside is dark and cool, perfect for recovering after playing Vball (or a hangover), the enormous burgers are legit as long as you're not watching your figure! This is a great place to hang out with a group of friends for an afternoon or all night. They serve drinks and VBall til 2am (yes please!). The ambiance is so nice here. It's tucked away *deep* in a neighborhood in Oak Forest and is one of those "blink and you miss it" situations. Full disclaimer: I have not had the food here so can't give much on that. It's normally just really, really chill and there are two full-sized volleyball courts outside, so if you're active but also like to turn up: this place is for you. I'm definitely not but that's fine since I can still enjoy a good volley match while I sip a brew. Only issue I've had in the 3 times I've been here: I almost got stiffed during happy hour; but it was a Wedneday night, slow af so I get it if she "forgot" to charge $3 instead of $8 lol I let the bartender know about the discrepancy as soon as I noticed it and she corrected it right away. On Sunday at 2PM we had embarrassingly bad service. We put in our food order at 1:49 for a salad and chicken fried steak sandwich. Husband went inside around 2:30 to check on our order... At about 2:40 we finally got the blackberry salad, "sandwich was coming out next." 2:50 rolls around and I go inside to check - the runner apparently took our sandwich to another table. 2:59 sandwich finally arrives. It's not even busy here as we've been waiting, I've seen a couple tacos come out nothing crazy like a birthday party or something ordering lots of food. Just really confused what the deal is here. I've been seeing all the advertisements for new ownership, new menu, etc, and this was very discouraging to ever want to come back. I even thought maybe the owners would be walking around to check on customers for the "re launch" weekend but never saw anyone. Our group was headed to another local spot for lunch today (Thursday) and were surprised it was closed. So we noticed a new place across and down the street and decided to give it a try. Boy were we lucky~! Wakefield CrowBar has outstanding hamburgers on fresh home-style buns, half pounders with a very wide variety of toppings and trimmings. Our group considers the burgers to be among the best in town for the "large format" style burger (half pounders). Although we don't drink at lunch, they appear to have a very wide selection of craft beers on tap, bottles and cans, along with all the standard domestic and popular imports. They have plenty of TVs all over the place in a very roomy dining room, tables spread out so it's not too crowded, along with plenty of bar space and tall boy tables. There are two professional looking volleyball courts, beach style, outdoors with deck space for viewing. There are signs noting no food or drink outside, which might be a bummer in cooler months. In case you are wondering, they are very welcoming to non-vballers, so stop in and give it a try. read more

*Got kicked out over my music selection choices on the jukebox* NO METAL ALLOWED per the owner! ******* Decided to check this place out as we were at Petrol Station but were meeting up some friends that wanted liquor. We looked online and saw that it was down the street. Always looking for a cool spot to check out. We were probably the only people in there besides the couple that we were with. (there was only maybe 3 other people and they were sitting together at a table.) There were other people there, but they were outside playing volleyball. We saw they had an internet jukebox and thought we'd put some money in. First put in $4 and got to selecting my songs.... then, as I was putting in a $20 (I figured we were going to be there for a while), the waitress tells me that the thing is not working. I told her I had just put in a $20, so she comes to help, turns it of and on and it seems to work. It was already on the 2nd song, so she rewinds it to start over, but I noticed it skipped my first song. Her response: "Just select it again."... "No biggie", I thought to myself.... well, I'm trying to select my songs and by then it the 3rd song, one of the employees comes over and tells me to "stop". He said I couldn't play any "metal". (It was Whales by Gojira) I figured I could play songs I liked especially because there wasn't anyone even there (inside) He said that the owner doesn't want any metal to be played and has restricted it on the jukebox. He told me they weren't going to play any of my selections. I told him that I had just put $20 in, so he said that he'd let us get $20 in drinks, but that we couldn't NOT put on any "metal" because other patrons were complaining. There was NOBODY else inside by that point. There were only some people playing volleyball outside. (guess they have speakers outside) I'm guessing they complained? I sit through songs I don't like when people play them on the jukebox!! Why couldn't they???? I was so shocked, this has NEVER happened to me. I said, "so, you're basically asking us to leave, then?" He just glared at me. I have never felt so unwelcomed and blown away by negative customer service. I went back to my table and told them what happened. We all stared as the waitress used the jukebox remote to fast forward through my songs....me next 4 songs were Pink Floyd. Wow, SUPER metal! We all decided that we needed to leave. Please ignore my husband Charlie P.'s review below. He loves places that have wood paneling on the walls and a jukebox filled solely with Merle Haggard, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but sometimes you want a little more than a Miller Light.) Wakefield Crowbar is a good little place. Actually, not little. It's pretty huge for a bar. Even with a bigger group of people it's never hard to find a spot. (We had 6 for brunch the other day and sat right down, no waiting). There's a good selection of tap beers, including all the local names, as well as a massive selection in cans and bottles. You can pretty much try something new each time, and their liquor selection Is plentiful as well. They also have a specialty frozen cocktail every day (recently it's been Deep Eddy Frozen Grapefruit, which I have dreams about), and all their specials are writing on a chalkboard wall. The food is usually decent to good. The salads are delicious, the burgers pretty tasty. Brunch was so-so -- my husband had breakfast tacos that he loved, I had a GIGANTIC hatch chile omelette that was average, a little greasy. While, yes, the atmosphere is a bit on the new Oak Forest yuppy side, no one is rude or overly exclusive, and if it really bothers you, you can easily sit in a corner away from everyone. Otherwise, you can sit outside on the big patio and watch people play sand volleyball while you drink beer to your heart's content. It's definitely better than Cottonwood, with fewer children running around and way less of a pretentious, golden-truffle-burger-with-gold-leaf-arugula-on-hand-sourced-brioche-bun sort of menu. Definitely a fan, interesting concept. A group of my friends play volleyball here every Thursday, so they asked me if i wanted to cheer them on one Thursday. I drove myself over and plopped down to watch some serious volleyball. The bar is an indoor/outdoor location that allows dogs, and has 3-4 volleyball courts that are fenced in. It also as an outdoor bar, and indoor bar. Service was really good, and the prices were fair. We sampled the chicken sandwich, the hummus, and some other bar food. Everything we had was tasty, and I would def. come back. Nice place to come watch a game, sit outside with your pup and have a cold one. read more

I like this bar but after tonight's incident where the bartender demanded I tip her this bar has gone down a couple of notches in my book. I work for a catering and concession company so I know a little bit about customer service. After getting my drink this bartender asked me if I thought she worked for free. I said no, and then she proceeded to demand/raise her voice that I tip her for pouring a beer. If you demand a tip you don't deserve one. You just lost business cause your bartender does not know how to be civil. read more

I've been here many times over the years and have always enjoyed it, but recently everything is different in a bad way. I ordered a chicken sandwich at the bar and it was OK, nothing special, but half way through eating it a large cockroach walked across the bar. I told the staff and no one said anything, just kind of shrugged it off. Needless to say. I lost my appetite and that was the end of my visit. I won't be back unless they make changes to improve food quality and sanitation. I am not sure what happened here, but someone is running this place into the ground, disgusting! read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I am a "motorcycle enthusiast" and "dive bar/Ice house enthusiast." Neither of these monikers put me in great stead here. It could easily be a 4 star because it caters well to the market they are looking for, but it is a 3 star joint for me personally. I enjoyed my two trips to the Crow Bar well enough, I really did, but it just wasn't really my scene. If you are looking for a faux dive bar experience then this place is definitely a place you want to check out. Gives you that gritty "Hey, I'm a working class kind of place tucked away in this working class neighborhood" kind of look when you drive up while catering to the people who live in the new very expensive houses in the neighborhood. The wood on the walls, the naked ceiling (no tiles), dimly lit, and the works. However, it is another new Oak Forest joint a la Cottonwood (albeit better in my opinion). The food is great, the drinks are good, the service is mediocre (probably still have some kinks to work out), and the volleyball court is a neat addition. Unfortunately, the crowd just wasn't my scene. I see it rapidly becoming a mecca for the young, hip, and the cool. Young single men and women out there enjoying their youths in the way you would expect them to on Washington street with a little less traffic. I have no problem with that, but it's just not for me. I will be back because it was a cool little joint and my much more refined wife absolutely loved the place. However I will make sure to either wear athletic gear or a button up which are the two standards. In the meantime, you will find me in the "scary" bars. read more

So.. I've been a pretty big fan of Crowbar. Then tonight happened. After waiting for about 15 min on a server my husband went straight to the bar to order dinner. He returned complaining on how horrible the service was and how long it took to place the order. (And the place was pretty empty). I ordered the pumpkin spice cocktail. It was ok.... UNTIL, after stirring it I saw a bug!!! I tried convincing myself it as a fruit fly, but the hubs looked a lot closer and said it was a baby ROACH. We don't live far away, and decided to go there because they were having pub trivia. It was being held at the same time as the A&M/Louisville bowl game, and although it wasn't supercrowded, there were probably more than the usual number of people on a Wednesday night. The parking lot was pretty full, but as my husband has a prosthetic foot, we have a handicapped placard for the car, and there were two handicapped spots open right by the door. When we walked in, we tried to figure out what area the trivia would be held in, but it wasn't apparent, so we sat up at the bar. Eventually the bartender came over to us, and we put in our beer order (many draft beers on tap, including some interesting ones). We also ordered the hummus and veggies, and on the bartender's recommendation, the special that day, which was described as "Texas Chili." When we asked him where the trivia would be held, he recommended that we move into an area adjacent to the bar, and gave us a number so the food could be brought to us. The hummus came very quickly, and was delicious. The accompanying pita bread was soft and tasted very fresh, and the celery and carrots provided variety. But then came the "Texas Chili". As I grew up in the Midwest where beans are included in chili, I don't have any problem with them, but it's my understanding that Texas-style chili omits them, so I certainly wasn't expecting them in a dish labeled as such. The big problem with the chili though wasn't its ingredients or taste, but the fact that it arrived barely lukewarm. And then the real fun of the evening began: how to find a server. The food runners didn't seem to be taking orders, and the one person who did seem to be waiting on tables was either no place to be found or didn't respond to our attempts to flag her down. Eventually she did become at least visible, but only because she spent long periods of time hanging out at a table with a guy who was participating in the trivia game. By that point we'd given up on trying to get someone to bring us more beer, and my husband, prosthetic foot and all, just went up to the bar and brought it back. The place doesn't have pitchers, so we had to do that for each round, and as a result, drank only about half of what we normally would consume for the length of time we were there. Another great annoyance was the seating. We'd ended up in a booth overlooking the volleyball court, and I was backed up to a family with one young boy and his older brother. The seating area of the booths move, and the family apparently thought nothing of letting their children jump up and down and run in and outside, slamming their seat into the back of mine every time they got up. I'm sure the people who occupied that booth after the family left would have loved to know they were sitting where someone with bare feet had been jumping. We don't play volleyball, but the people that do seemed to be having a good time, and it was nice that on a cold night, the location had "fire tables" near the court where people could drink and eat around a central fire. The trivia game itself was fine, and that plus the food being tasty, the location being not far from our home, and parking being easy for us would have brought us back, knowing to avoid the booths. But as playing trivia while drinking beer is how we want to spend our evening, we'd rather drive a little farther and receive attentive service. I cut places slack when there's a crowd, as long as the servers seem to be trying their best--but here at least either nobody was responsible for our section, or the one in charge of it preferred chatting with a single patron than making sure other patrons' needs were being met. And we regularly receive great service in places with huge crowds (thank you, Griff's and Coaches Pub), so some places do know how to compensate when they expect more people. Also, although the location isn't directly responsible for kids running wild, it is responsible for being the type of place where the people who are responsible--the parents--feel that's perfectly okay. In short, unless you want to play or watch volleyball, you'd do best finding a a place with a more adult atmosphere and table service. read more

I love this place! Cheap beer, good food and the patio is huge. The waitstaff is great too. It seems like they actually are enjoying their jobs which is always nice to see. They are so friendly and quick. Their food is better than "typical bar food" and it comes out quick and piping hot. The volleyball courts are an added bonus. It is fun to chill with friends and watch people play sand volleyball. It makes me wish I could play volleyball! read more

If volleyball is your thing then Wakefield is the spot to be as the courts are always filled with competitors. If you are coming for drinks, the selection is average. If you are coming to eat, I would go some where else. After going to wakefield numerous times, this is my best summary. The food just isn't quality there....they really need to reinvest in improving this portion of their business. The service is usually good and there are a quite a few TVs to watch plus the big screen. I like wakefield, but the food needs a facelift in quality. read more

I mostly come here because I play volleyball with Houston SSC. It's a cool concept, however, the service is lacking big time. The first time I came, I ordered fries and they brought out the completely wrong order. When I told them it was wrong, it took over 30 minutes for a plate of fries with cheese. They tasted good when I finally got them, but no one ever came to tell me anything if my correct food was coming or not. The other times that I have come, I just play volleyball and not order anything. They seem to be understaffed a lot of the times. If they add more people maybe the service would be better. If it wasn't for volleyball I probably would not come back. read more

Nothing like having to wait in long lines every time you need a drink. Then having a bar tender who would rather be checking his phone than waiting on customers. I would recommend maybe hiring a waitstaff to make your customers feel appreciated. I got my tab and could not believe $8 for a well drink. I have been to CrowBar once and I had a really good time. The drinks were well made and it felt great to have the convenience of the outside bar while watching the volleyball games. Great beer selection. 35 or so Taps. No BS, the best chicken tenders I have EVER had. Pesto chicken sandwich was pretty darn good too. Great atmosphere, great place to hang out. Plenty of tables inside, and a dozen + picnic tables outside on the patio that surrounds the sand volleyball courts. I really can't complain about one thing. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
