A must stop for me when I'm on the Northwest side of Winston-Salem. I just can't get over their hand-dipped onion rings with the horseradish sauce, and those bourbon glazed and garlic romano wings with "the good ranch." Waldo's is just a great place to go whether you are looking to dine-in and watch a game on one of the many easy to view TVs, or if you're just looking for a quick lunch with an excellent lunch special. I popped in here specifically to try the Polish Sausage, something that I really like and it is not all that readily available! I had visied the spot once before to try their wings, and they are excellent! The Polish Sausage came with grilled sauerkraut and deli mustard, as well as 3, yeap 3, onion rings and a small wedge of pickle! The cost was $7.25. Today, I visited this establishment and was seated promptly, which was appreciated. The young lady at the front desk was very kind, and our server was attentive, polite, and professional throughout the visit.Unfortunately, my experience took a serious turn when my son received his food. While eating, he pulled a long brown strand of hair from his mouth. The server immediately noticed my reaction and saw my son holding the hair. She came over right away, removed the plate, and apologized sincerely.It is important to note that our server showed far more empathy and concern than management. She asked if we were okay and even offered to speak with the manager about removing the item from our bill due to the unsanitary condition. She went out of her way to advocate on our behalf. However, she later informed us that the manager told her no and refused to remove the item.What was most disappointing is that a manager did not initially come to address the situation on their own. At the same time, I was still waiting on my own order, which had already been delayed due to an error and required correction. When I finally requested to speak with the manager on duty, her response was extremely nonchalant. When I asked if she was aware that there had been hair in my son's food, she stated, "Yes, and we remade the items." I then asked whether we were expected to pay for the meals or if anything would be comped, given that items had to be sent back twice and that there was hair in a customer's food. She showed no empathy, concern, or accountability. The only response given was that she had spoken with the kitchen manager, and the conversation ended there.My primary issue is the lack of professionalism, care, and urgency shown by the manager, especially compared to the server, who clearly understood the severity of the situation and tried to resolve it appropriately. The manager appeared completely unfazed, offered no apology, and showed no concern for the health or experience of her guests. The wedges were well seasoned and I found the honey chipotle sauce to be delicious with just the right amount of spice. The boneless wings were crisp and I found them to be good. We also tried the onion rings which were homemade and fantastic. They come with house made ranch and that combination was next level delicious. As far as service, our waiter was quick to get our order but after that seemed somewhat apathetic. He delivered our meal but then it seemed like he never really checked back in and it seemed like the only reason he came back was because he had to seat another customer and had to leave from talking to his colleagues. Not a bad way to get some meat and veg, but the veg portion of the salad was pretty basic. My son was trying chicken and waffles for his first time, and didn't seem too thrilled. I tasted it and it was fine. The chicken is Waldo's chicken, so it has the right stuff. The waffle texture and flavor were a little 'meh' and that could be for any number of reasons. I love coming to this place because it's so close to home and it's great to catch sporting events, especially at this moment during March madness. The place is a perfect set up with TVs all over and boots and tables with views from any angle. The staff is always friendly and efficient. Today we got mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. I was greeted by the friendliest staff members who remained very friendly and attentive throughout the entire experience. They have a large dining area where you can be seated by the waiter up front or head to the back to place a takeout order. The restaurant itself reminds me of a sports bar. I initially came for the yelp elite event to try the Wings that were free due to the event, but I seen many other items that caught my eye. So I also ordered the polish dog, waffle fries, hot chips, and the appetizer tray which came with Broccoli Cheese Puffs, Battered Buttons, Zucchini Slices & Onion Rings served with choice of 2 dippin' sauces. I brought my kids here recently to try and make them "wing people". They ordered the tenders/fries and hot dog/fries kids meals (both loved what they ordered), while I tried the 6-piece boneless meal with fries. Though I wanted to try one of the flavors (honey gold?), I ordered mild so my kids would like them. Alas, they won't be wing fans...at least not for now. Today was the day that we got the opportunity to visit Waldo's. We learned a few months ago that Waldo's is owned by the same people as Mama Zoe's and Cin Cin. Since we are big fans of both we knew we wanted to check them out. We arrived about 5pm on Saturday afternoon and while they were moderately busy we were seated by the hostess right away. She provided us menus which we immediately started looking through. The place has a sports bar type theme with lots Nascar related items as well as other sports. There is no bar but they serve a variety of beer. We knew before we arrived that they offer both bone-in and boneless wings as well as burgers, salads and appetizers. We saw other yelp recommendations about the waffle fries so we knew we needed to try them. Our server, Mary G. stopped in and took our drink orders. When she brought our drinks she asked if we were ready to order. My wife started by ordering the waffle fries and told Mary that she was super hungry and asked that they be brought out before our meals. Mary instantly said, "I got you". My wife also ordered the six wing special with the dry rub, carrots and ranch dressing. I decided on the Southern Comfort burger with onion rings. Our waffle fries arrived shortly after and we were impressed with the portion size, definitely enough for 2-4 people. They were cooked perfectly and were so yummy with the ranch dressing. Our entrees arrived shortly afterwards and also looked awesome. My burger was piled high and the onion rings were gigantic! My wife really enjoyed her dry rub wings as well and appreciates the ability to order carrots only versus celery with her wings. Now for the food, my husband ordered a Reuben and said it was probably one of the better rueben sandwiches he's had out here so far. My son ordered jerk wings and loved them. Yummy wings. I really liked their sauces. Definitely wouldn't mind getting wings there again. The sides were a bit disappointing though: you only get like four waffle fries in a side, and the cheese bread cost an extra two and half bucks and was just a floppy piece of bread with a tiny bit of cheese melted on it. Went to eat wings this evening since it was .89 cent wing night. We get there fairly early before the crowd hoping to get in and out. This isn't our first time going, we've been eating here for quite a few years. We order our food. 30 minutes go by, no food. Folks that came after us getting their food. So by this time, I'm ready to get up & walk out. So the manager finally comes over to tell us that our food was taken to the wrong table. However, he put our order in again and said he'd comp our entire meal. Great. However, the waitress MARY never once came to us to inform us of this. She kept walking past our table and never would refill our drinks. Mind you, we've had her a few times before, and she's always been very dry, but I would just shake it off. So, the food finally came, by way of the manager. I guess she didn't want to bring it. The food came out and was good. This other waitress that we like and are familiar with told us how MARY acts towards her & "us". I tried to give Mary the benefit of the doubt, thinking she's just always dry and it's her demeanor, however the other waitress confirmed it for us tonight. I applaud the manager for coming to us addressing the fact that our food was given to another table and paying for our meal. But, our waitress knew and never once came and told us anything. My husband wanted to raise you know what, but I had to talk him down because it would not have solved anything. I hate we had to experience this at this establishment being that we frequent it a lot. We will go back, and will not allow them to sit us in MARY'S section, because it was evident tonight that she doesn't like "us". We're from New York and have been looking to find a spot that has wings at an affordable price, lots of flavor and with the perfect crisp and this is that place! There are a ton of flavors to choose from and we got the honey chipotle which was SO good. The blue cheese dressing was one of the best I've had! The slaw was good, but reminded me more of a deli slaw than a bbq place slaw (I know this isn't a bbq place but that was the kid of flavor I was expecting), still good though! We also split the Pittsburg burger which was awesome.
