This store hides in a place that's hard to find. The service is good. The pharmacists are very nice, professional, patient and efficient.

I thought all pharmacies were late, sloppy, and inefficient until I tried this one. They are always on top of it and helpful.

Came here with friends to get a prescription. There wasn't a big crowd, but they told us we'll have to wait about 20 minutes. In reality, it took more like 45 minutes and they didn't complete the entire order. In the end, we had to go to another pharmacy to pick up the rest of the presentation. I would not come back here. My doctor refereed me to this Pharmacy. So regret that I didn't check with my insurance before I came to this pharmacy. I provided the staff with my insurance card. I asked the staff whether my insurance covered these medication. He said "NO". Then, I'm paying out of pocket for thousands of dollars of medication. This is the best Walgreens ever! Emily and the team are absolutely superb!! As a healthcare provider they are my pharmacy of choice. Not only do I trust them to take great care of my patients but they take the time to go the extra mile and then call me if something is wrong. Sometimes the prescriptions have to go to other pharmacies for specialty services and the insurance dictates the pharmacy but I always try to send to them! This is what personalized care should be. As a patient I have needed them to help me with complicated authorizations that my local Walgreens can't seem to manage . My insurance doesn't cover my meds for the treatment I'm doing. The team here always helps me find ways to get appropriate discounts and find other ways to reduce the cost of medication. I wouldn't know how to do it without them, they are very kind. They are a specialty pharmacy, so they are busy filling orders, so you may have to wait if it is an order that was just submitted, and if you come during a busy time of day. But they have always made sure I get my medications even last minute if I needed them right away. Just play games on your phone if you are waiting, it's normal for not all things to be instantaneous. Very professional, helpful, and have the meds I need that others don't have! read more

The Cutest Walgreens! I've never seen a Walgreens this tiny! We decided to stop the car, parked (got lucky found a spot right away) and checked out this branch before it goes away. We noticed that a bigger one is being build just around the block. It reminds me of a 7-11 in SF on Market but cleaner. They only have the really basic stuff like little travel size lotions and shampoos and whatnots and carry more of the health needs. We found a travel size bottle of my favorite Curel Lotion! Score! Of course now that I've read David B.'s review- they still do carry Dr. Scholls athletic insoles and they still have the cute asian girl at the register :) Only difference is I would still go next door if they're cheaper by a dollar! read more

Generally easy to access and parking, although it's on the strip of the heart in Palo Alto! Employees are friendly and patient to answer my questions whenever I call or visit. I totally went four times and everyone did the same smile to welcome me in! Beyond the service, they are in the same page as we customers' concern about how to save the budget from medical expenses! This review is for Disco Rex/Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy. I really believe that some of the other reviews are for the Walgreens general pharmacy a couple shops over. We just picked up my IVF meds, and Eric an intern and Lawrence (Larry) PharmD helped us. They trained us on all the injections, were extremely helpful, patient, and even showed us tips on how to maximize one of the meds to save money. This review is for Disco Rex. I was initially unsure about working with a pharmacy out of town, but my doctors chose them for my large prescription order. They were very communicative over the phone and made sure I was signed up for all the money-saving programs that I could qualify for. But the real reason for the high score rating comes from their shipping policy. My overnighted meds were unexpectedly delayed due to the San Diego fires slowing down Fedex's flights. I called the pharmacy to ask about the status of my delivery and they realized one of my meds was temperature sensitive and might not arrive cold because of the delay. One of the pharmacists (Alice) not only re-ordered the med for me without charge, she drove it 45 miles each way in rush hour traffic to get it to my house that night. Hand delivered service really made my day. read more

This place is HORRIBLE!!! If you need fertility meds buy online, they're so much cheaper, friendly staff and next day overnight delivery. My dr called in a rx for me, which the pharmacy told her would be ready on Friday evening so that I could pick it up Saturday. So I drove 2 hours to get here on Saturday only to find out they randomly decided to be closed that day, even though they're normally open Saturdays and I had just talked to them the afternoon before confirming my pickup. So I drove home empty handed, wasting 4 hours of my Saturday. Returned first thing Monday morning and was told by a very rude assistant that the pharmacist still had to "make" my rx and that it would be atleast 3 hours before it was ready. Seriously???? You wasted 4 hours of my time on Saturday and now you're going to waste another 3???? If I had any other options I would go anywhere else at this point, but unfortunately I need to take this med tonight so I'm stuck waiting for a pharmacist with an empty pharmacy to take 3 hours to mix something that will take him less than 5 minutes. I brought in a prescription that happened to be a schedule II drug (this means my doctor cannot call it in, pharmacies cannot transfer it around -- they MUST have the original prescription). The prescription was written for a fairly high quantity, so I didn't think the pharmacy would have that amount on hand. As expected, the pharmacist told me they had to order it, and that it would take approximately 5 days for the medicine to come in. So I left my prescription with them and thought they would actually do their job. I come back a week later, and they can't find the prescription. Well, not only was it not filled, but it was also never actually entered into the system. So, it was never ordered. They held onto my prescription for a week without doing anything and didn't even bother to call. They offered a weak apology and then just shrugged it off. Meanwhile, I could've actually gotten it filled somewhere else in that week... Such annoyingly bad customer service. Avoid! read more

This review is for Disco Rex. Tiny specialty pharmacy. I had to ring the doorbell to get into the top secret pharmacy. Pharmacist was nice enough just painfully slow. My prescriptions had been there a week, but were not all together. He did account for all the medicine which was nice. If you are spending that much on meds they better all be there! Prior to this visit I had called multiple times to see if I could have the meds mailed. I knew there was a holiday coming up and there wouldn't be any mail that day. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get a hold of someone there. In the end I had drive my ass over there to get the meds on time. Parking is a pain in the ass on University Ave. read more

This pharmacy is amazing. All of the employees are so sensitive and kind, even when you can tell they are slammed with work (literally phone ringing off the hook). They move quickly trying to get all of the orders filled asap. Ryan, the pharmacist, is really just incredible! I came on an afternoon when they were very busy and my prescription wasn't ready. He said he'd call my doctor and figure out where my prescription was. I left flustered and Ryan called me literally 10 minutes later. He found out that my medicine had been tied up in pre-authorizations. We chatted about costs of the medicine and he gave me a code to medical website to register and get a major discount. Then he called back 10 minutes later and said he got my medicine approved (no clue how!). I ended up paying $30, when I expected to pay $300. When you're in the middle of a long treatment process, this small act of kindness by your pharmacist is a big deal! I really appreciate him and the whole pharmacy so much. read more

Very tiny pharmacy in downtown Palo Alto, now owned by Walgreens. This is a compounding pharmacy, so they can make custom liquid preparations, although I've yet to need that service. They have filled mailed prescriptions on time, and I'm usually in and out in 90 seconds. Very minimal selection of non-prescription items -- it's a pharmacy, not a supermarket, unlike most pharmacies. read more

Duke has gone above and beyond to help me with difficult prescription orders as well as working with my insurance to get particular prescriptions covered. Now that I've gone again, I can be sure that the rudeness I experienced wasn't just them busy the first time I went, they really are unpleasant. To the phone call I got demanding payment while I was driving there, even though it meant pulling over to get a credit card, to being told the med would be left next store at the big Walgreens, and finding out it wasn't after I waited in line 15 minutes, to just the general lack of customer service in the store, I'm truly not impressed. If there was anywhere else to go for the specialty meds I need, I would go elsewhere. The customer service is horrible. read more

This is the BEST Walgreen's Pharmacy I have ever had the pleasure to find! They mail my prescriptions so I do not have to go into the pharmacy to pick up them up. Everyone I have spoken to is so pleasant, polite, and don't make me feel like I am a nuisance because I have had so many difficulties getting my prescriptions to them. The prescriptions are well wrapped and sent quickly. This pharmacy specializes in mailing prescriptions and is the only Walgreen's I have dealt with that will do so. I am on my husband's insurance policy; we have exactly the same coverage. A Walgreen's in Fremont will send his meds through the mail, but said they couldn't send mine (I have asthma as opposed to my husband's cardiac meds), but are unable to tell me why they can't send mine. I have contacted the insurance company and they say they have no issue with my prescriptions being mailed. Whatever! I am so grateful to have discovered the Walgreen's Pharmacy at 217 Alma, in Palo Alto. read more

Ryan at Disco Rex is awesome. I made an appointment to go over my new medications, and Ryan was super patient with me as I asked many questions. He made sure that I was confident in going home with my bag of goodies. He even packed one of my meds with ice since he knew I was going to grab lunch after our appointment. Everyone else was also very nice. As I waited for my appointment they updated me to make sure I didn't feel forgotten. I can't speak on pricing since my doctor chose this pharmacy for me. This pharmacy is great because it is family owned. When you call, they know who you are. When you walk in, they greet you. I also left a message for the pharmacist and he called me back within 5 minutes. Would a chain pharmacy do that? HORRIBLE PHARMACY. the service is poor - the person at the counter didn't even know how to read a prescription and then I heard someone next to her say "do you have the cheat sheet?' That started to scare me. I was picking up a prescription from my OB and when I got home, researched the drug, it stated "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT. CAN HARM UNBORN BABY" (i'm pregnant). I called my doctor immediately and he said that the pharmacy gave me to incorrect med. I called and said I need to speak with the manager, and when they passed me to a pharmacist, he kept insisting that I was incorrect. I will be complaining to the BBB and make sure they understand that they need to have experienced staff and pharmacists around or they will be in trouble. read more

Disco Rex is no longer family owned. It is owned by Walgreens as a niche pharmacy. They continue to compound and have the same customer service standards they had previously. E.g., my perscription expired. They offered to call my doc rather than make me run around trying to get a new perscription. read more

Problem #1: person on the phone was initially rude. I'm paying out of pocket for thousands of dollars of medication. I don't need your assholery. Problem #2: I am told I'll be called back today or tomorrow with an estimate. I call back on day 2 just before they close and receive my estimate of over $7500. Problem #3: I tell my nurse in passing how much I was quoted, she recommends another pharmacy, stating, "Disco Rex charges more if they know you will be billing insurance." Ummmmm...... Walgreens is great for getting passport and visa photographs. Their machine has all the details on requirements with templates for lots of different countries. I was having a hard time finding someone that could take my photo for a Canadian passport. With the template, they got the picture exactly the right size and position in about 15 minutes. It was less than $10 with tax. read more

I do not understand the other bad reviews. I have never had a bad experience yet, and we have been using them for a while now due to fertility and they are a compound pharmacy so they specialize in some drugs that the other pharmacies would not have. I've used this pharmacy for two compounded prescriptions. For the first, they told me insurance wouldn't pay for compounding and charged me $35 for 2 oz of an ointment. Maybe they didn't have any obligation to tell me that insurance wouldn't pay because there was an over-the-counter equivalent available - on the Disco Rex shelf - at $10 for 6 oz. The second time, they demanded a $20 up-front payment to compound another ointment. This meant I had to make three visits to their store (drop off Wednesday, pay Friday, pick up Monday), and suffer a delay of six days to get my prescription filled. They didn't bother to phone me to explain this - I had to call to find out why I never heard from them. read more
