I don't think I've ever waited less than 20 minutes to be helped at the pharmacy. I feel bad for the employees who work there, who frequently call over the intercom for help to have no one come and relieve them with a growing line winding down the aisle. It's by far the most convenient pharmacy to get to in the neighborhood, but I will be driving farther to get better service from now on. Staff is always very friendly, but are simply too understaffed provide you with any quality service. Well, seeing as this Walgreens location has an absolutely grotesque rating prior to me even leaving this message, I know that my rating won't affect their overall score much at all. I get off work at 9:30 pm, and sometimes, I have a package or two I need to drop off for FedEx since Walgreens is a dedicated FedEx drop-site. Keep in mind, anytime I am dropping a package off, it's fully boxed, sealed, and already has a prepaid shipping label that I've printed off beforehand affixed to the top of it. When dropping off a package like this, the work that the Walgreens employee is required to do is exactly this: scan the barcode on my package with a handheld barcode scanner and then....and then....welp, that is all them receiving a package from me entails. That's it. Sometimes if I get off early I'm able to make it there by 9:45 pm. Sometimes I don't snd am forced to hustle down there as fast as possible, like tonight, and try to drop off the package. Well I was in such a rush that I forgot my face mask in my truck so I had to run back and grab it from m vehicle before I could enter the store. When I got back up to the doorway the shift supervisor stopped me at the door and said they were closed, their system was shut down, and I could not drop my package off. I checked the time snd it was 10:00 pm on the dot. The funny thing is, there was still someone checking out, and another person in the store still. He swore up and down there was nothing he could do, that the system was shut down. Which was a bad, obvious lie. So because this power tripping king of Walgreens nerd could not bear to pick up a handheld barcode scanner and shoot my package, he refused to allow me to drop off the package. Any time I've ever been cutting it close to the post office, a real FedEx or ups store every single time they have been human snd allowed me to drop off the package. Why you might ask? Because they understand that the absolutely non-'existent piddle of half a second of work they might have to do by lifting up one arm snd squeezing their trigger finger, is wholly unequal to the setback it may cause someone rushing to drop off a package who might be 30 seconds late. It was a real weak, scumbag maneuver. Besides that incident, I've had employees tell me that I'm no one is allowed in the store after 9:30, which was a complete lie. Snd other times I've had real pleasant interactions with the staff. But I just say, I frequently run into staff that seem at their wits end and direct terrible customer service my way. If this wasn't the closest place I could drop off packages, I'd never come here again. read more

I have never met a more lazy, unqualified, unprofessional, inconsistent, disinterested, unaware, unapologetic, unequipped, horribly inept group of individuals as this bunch that run the pharmacy. I've been getting prescriptions from this store for more than 2 years and I've had enough. Today I cut the cord and go to another vendor. I've been on the phone for over an hour today because of an "issue" in the phone prescription renewal process last night. Before that it was waiting in line in the drive through for 30 minutes, time and time again. Or it was in the store waiting in line, time and time again. Either the company of Walgreens has decided this store is not worth the additional workers to make up for the demand or these workers are really that bad. I'm still on the fence. Regardless, after this refill I will find someone else to give my money to. Gladly. So long as I do not have to deal with this debacle. Stay away from this place at all costs. Go down the street to the RiteAid. Go to the Fred Meyer. Go to a local pharmacy. Whatever you do, do not come to this Walgreens. It is a vortex of pain, suffering and misery. So tired of Walgreens drive thru attitude & lameness. I understand that they want to offer a drive-through but they SO clearly don't prioritize customer service here. I will transfer my prescriptions from this point forward since easily 90% of the time I have a wait that is greater than 15 minutes. Sometimes I push the button and I'm the only one there and it STILL wait 10 minutes! and then the experience is negative -partly because I'm annoyed and partly because most of the time the employee is snarky and rude. Basically, the Walgreens pharma line will try even the most patient of yogis. If the medicine I went there to claim was the difference between my life and death, Walgreens would have needed to call me an ambulance. Of course, they probably would have taken half an hour to accomplish that task, and then I would be writing this review update from beyond the grave. I can understand when a business is busy. But when a worker tells you to hang tight for a few minutes, witnesses you twiddle your thumbs for 28 minutes, checks her system, and discovers that all she had to do was sell the meds as a direct sale after fetching them, completed and ready to go, from a bin, that's not an issue of busy. It's an issue of sucking. I even asked what was meant by a few minutes, and the woman behind the counter told me five. Apparently, math is hard for the lab-coated employees at Walgreens, as is, you know, serving the customers in a prompt manner. However, I called and explained my fury to two Walgreens employees. They logged my phone number and assured me that their head manager would call me to address my complaints. This morning, the manager got a hold of me and very graciously and sincerely apologized for the wait. Only pharmacy I've even been to where if you show some sort of outward injury (sling, crutches) you will be accosted in the parking lot for the pain meds you most likely just picked up. I have seen people screaming for drugs I've never heard of (and I've heard of quite a few), blaming the bus driver for stealing their insurance cards and just shit shows in general. I've used the 24 hour pharmacy after an injury because I cannot deal with the clientele and the wait at other times. As for everything else in the store? I guess if it's your closest place to buy shampoo and as-seen-on-TV products, it's fine. I would rather go a few blocks down 39th and go to Fred Meyer, where the lighting is less...accusatory and I can actually buy some avocadoes and bubbly water along with my shampoo. The extra star is for 24 hour service. If you're into Oxycodone it's on a time lock. I don't even know what that means, but there is a sign. I've been there in the middle of the night to fill Rx for lesser pain meds after shoulder and knee injuries. I gotta say, depending on how much the ER sent you home with, you're probably better off waiting until your normal pharmacy opens. read more

If you have a customer that has been trying to pay for over 20 minutes, but all of your POS's go down except for one, and you make her try every machine, don't laugh and tell her she will have to get back in line to be checked out by the only working POS. 39th and Belmont - yeah, I said it, 39th. Location cannot be beat for convenience. You would think this a successful Walgreens given its location in the heart of southeast. You would think. Stepping inside, you get an entirely different impression. It is safe to assume that this place has not been updated, renovated, repaired, or retrofitted since it originally opened. Linoleum tiles disintegrate under your feet and under the harsh, harsh florescent lighting. The only "upgrade" I note is the giant bullet-resistant (?) glass placed in front of the pharmacy, which is reminiscent of a certain Taco Bell in Culver City. To be fair, though, it may simply be swine-flu resistant. Let's talk about the pharmacy. It is essentially the only reason I go here. It is open 24 hours a day. Every day. Major, major points for the convenience factor (2 stars, easily). Given that they have essentially every minute of every day to fill all of your prescription needs, you would think they can handle anything. You would think. Challenge: I dare you to try dropping off your prescription and waiting for it to be filled. Eyes grow as big as saucers when you suggest maybe you'll just wait. "Wait? So, like, you want it now?" The very concept is apparently inconceivable to a pill-counting brain. I once said I would come back after work, and I kid you not the woman looked at me, surprised, and asked, "Today?" Yes, today! Ten hours from now. Can someone not count from 1 to 60 between now and 10 hours from now? Did I mention the convenience of 24 hours? read more

Having a cold blows. It blows and it blows and it blows. And then it blows a whole fucking lot more. Except when your sinuses are clogged tight. Then it just sucks. I rarely get sick, but when I do, it hits me like a ton of bricks. It happened this week. Monday I had a sore throat, Tuesday, like a number on Sesame Street, I was down for the count. I felt like I was dying. Walgreens, and it's aisle upon aisle of pharmaceuticals, saved my ass. This location is not as convenient to me as the one on 82nd, but being on the corner of 39th and Belmont, it's definitely on the beaten path. We stopped here to grab snacks for our hotel and I wouldn't come back here if that was the last convenience store in the world. Whilst shopping, we had to use the restroom, so we pushed the button at a nearby wall for assistance, which took 15 minutes to respond. The employee walked right past me, turned around and looked at me as if i was a bother said, "Can i help you?" When I asked him if the restroom had a lock, he proceeded to tell me, "You need a key code, and you should have pressed this button." As he pointed to a different button than the one I pressed, as if I should have known that. The restroom was disgusting, a cesspool of nasty. Shards of toilet paper strewn across the floor, a strong odor of urine and feces, and pubic hairs on the seat. I was mortified! This is supposed to be a health store! Yuck! read more

Horrible service in the pharmacy. They do not necessary steps to protect patient confidentiality. First of all, I go in and hand them a Rx from my doctor. Upon confirming my address, they begin to input the prescription under MY MOM'S name (since we both pick up Rxs here) until I caught it. This could have been dangerous if someone had picked up and used the wrong Rx. Totally sloppy and lazy. I picked up my Rx from the drive through with a car full of people, since I was with people and it was on the way. Without confirming whether or not I knew how to use the Rx, the pharmacist starts shouting loudly about how to use an extremely personal and embarrassing Rx in front of this car full of people. Totally humiliating and unprofessional. What a horrible experience from start to finish. They need to completely reevaluate how they do business and fire all of the staff members who handled my prescription. read more

I love to use coupons to buy my grocery and drug stores stuff, not because I'm cheap but I've always been a frugal girl. Especially these days an extra penny or two will go a long way. I like this Walgreen because they usually have pretty good stock on things that I like to buy. Except there's this assistant manager there that is bitchy and make up her own rule. Such as you can't use $1 off coupon on 99 cents item. She said they can't adjust the price of the item. Which is not true because I called corporate and the general manager of this particular store called me back and she said that they can adjust pricing and she apologized for the behavior of the bitchy assistant manager. I don't think it's a biggie, I just don't like she's making feel like I'm doing something really really bad when at the same time I still pay $40 for all my things. Doug is the rudest customer service savant in the history of customer service. The excuse from the assistant manager is that Doug and his late night toothless counterpart are that they are part of a "difficult to hire" program. It's easy to see why these people are difficult to hire. These people can't even bag your purchase. I have actually walked out without being charged for half of my purchase. But I would rather be treated with respect than walk out with free merchandise. Tonight, the cashier just stood there yapping at me and not even trying to bag anything. Okay, people...it's a Walgreens. A Walgreens for goodness sake! I'm a little shocked by the reviews. This is not some 5-star resort staffed by people trained in catering to your every whim. It's also a location right in the heart of SE Portland, which is bound to have a lot of customers needing prescriptions. Maybe some people's expectations are just too high. I seriously wonder if someone could actually say that the service or amenities are better at Rite Aid or some other drug store. I agree, the pharmacy counter should be better staffed sometimes, particularly right after the work hours when the most people seem to pick up prescriptions. However, I've waited in line just as long at Fred Meyer pharmacy and Safeway pharmacy. I remind myself that the lack of enough staff is management's fault, not the techs' fault. And the reason this place got three stars...see the second paragraph. Management seriously needs to make some changes in staffing. This is the worst pharmacy ever. Every time I've went to pick up a prescription there was always a problem. Either the lines are long because there's only one person at the counter, or the pharmacist called out sick, So they had to close the pharmacy because the drugs can't be picked up by the patient, without the pharmacist on site. I understand things happen, but these type of things are ongoing at this location. This puts a hardship on people trying to pick up thier prescriptions, especially when they have been notified by the automated system that the script is ready, and when they are having a procedure done the following day. With service this bad why not just close the pharmacy portion of the store. After all there are better pharmacies within the area. read more

How difficult is it to staff two people in the pharmacy during peak hours? I recently spent A HALF HOUR in line, even with a few people giving up, just to get my drugs. It's unacceptable! I demand my pills! The touchtone refill line is hit and miss, especially if they're going to hafta contact your doctor. Terrible customer service. I came out of surgery and drove straight to the pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions needed. My doctor had faxed my prescriptions the day before my surgery. The pharmacy had no records of my prescriptions. I asked them kindly to call my doctor , but no, I had to call my own doctor and ask her to straighten it out. She did, and yes they did have it on file, but had to fill it now. At least one hour wait to get my medications I was told. ........ I am switching pharmacies! DO NOT trust this photo department with any photos at all that are important to you, unless you have digital backup. We should have taken our film roll of pictures from our anniversary trip to any number of high-tech Portlandy places, but Walgreens was cheap and convenient, and I've never had issues with them before. They sent our roll of film off to the lab in some other city, and I was given a claim check to come get them a week later. Annoying, but not the end of the world. However, when I went in several days after my claim check date to collect my pictures, the employee couldn't find them. And didn't care one bit that he couldn't. He told me that according to the computer, the order was canceled, and then he kind of just stared at me like I should figure out what to do next. The assistant manager came over to help, took about 5 minutes in the back doing something mysterious (supposedly calling a hotline) and then when I asked him how things were going he said it had taken all that time to just find the hotline number. He called it, and no one answered, so he would need to inquire electronically and get back to me later. He did call back the next day (the first act of professionalism I saw), and said that the photo center sent him the roll electronically and that it was all blank. He said we might have loaded the film incorrectly. Well, technically that's true and we can't prove it -- but it seems odd that a) my husband's a pretty good photographer, and b) the film was advancing properly the whole time we used it and then rolled itself nicely into its little cylinder. Obviously, I can't prove that the error itself wasn't ours -- BUT: 1) Why wasn't there a note on the account that there was an error, not a cancellation? 2) Why weren't we notified by phone near our claim date that there was an error? 3) Couldn't the employee have pretended to care? 4) Why isn't your hotline number readily available, and why don't you know its hours of operation? There are definitely long lines at the pharmacy just about every time I have ever gone, but I don't usually mind too much so long as I get my medication. What bothers me most is the carelessness from certain cashiers in the pharmacy. Today, the customer in front of me had some kind of problem with his prescription.. I don't know what it was about because its none of my business. Once the customer leaves, the cashier gives me this look like, "woah, what an asshole of a customer." I felt like he was expecting me to make fun of the customer in front of me with him?? I do not like the idea of a judgmental pharmacist.... I tried to just ignore it and move forward. Once I swiped my credit card he just straight up left the register, and I could hear him laughing and talking to friends. I waited around for 2 minutes for my receipt, so I just left. read more

It is close to home. It is open all the time. It has way too much stuff inside its walls. You can get drugs of many kinds for what ails you. It's on two main TriMet lines (#17 & #75). It is Walgreen's...nothing special but it is handy to have it here in our neighborhood. Cons: Staff rotates...a lot. The pharmacy techs are not friendly. Be careful with the 1-hr photo service; they DO make mistakes. The parking lot needs more frequent cleaning. Homeless people congregate nearby...no panic about this but just be careful. read more

Screw convenience, I will walk one extra street over to Fred Meyer because I am not willing to risk my health and safety to such incompetent human beings. In the past they had given me the wrong medication, but put the correct label on it. It was just my luck that I happen to know what my meds should look like or who knows what I might have taken?? This was my fourth time there and every visit has been worse than the last. The staff is rude and so totally incompetent that their screw-up (ANOTHER one) has left me with out my medication because they couldn't even pick up the phone and call me so I might look into fixing their stupidity BEFORE my doctor was done was gone for the day. The place is filthy and falling apart and clearly no one cares what the hell goes on there. Large corporation or not, what a damn sad state of affairs that no one is stepping up and making this an acceptable business for people to frequent. We come here sometimes for the usual sundries and prescriptions and they do an okay job for all that. But. We had to get passport photos here, and they were awful. This is the second time I also got passport photo taken at a Walgreens and I'll never do it again. Seriously shit job. First time I got a passport photo taken was at 33rd & Killingsworth location and they got the measurements all wrong -- my head was huge, and the guv'ment are sticklers for the correct ratios and no egos. Then just recently, we got our families passport photos taken here - they were all pixelated and grainy and with shadows on our face. Note to the photo guy -- Put the camera on the highest resolution possible and don't stand ten feet away and zoom in; just get closer. Not to mention that I looked like, and I quote my husband here, "The first mug shot in the faces of meth series." It's a digital camera -- not like they're wasting film -- you'd think they could take a few for a decent one. The post office ended up rejecting one kid out of two so we needed to pay the post office $15 for a retake. I have my fingers crossed that the ones we had to send in for our renewals are accepted or else we're SOL for our family vacation. I did hear after the fact that the place on NW broadway that says "Passport Photos" really does take good passport photos. For next time. tl;dr DON'T GET YOUR PASSPORT PHOTOS TAKEN HERE! read more

Check your register receipts!! Every time I go here for buy one get one half price it never rings up. Then I have to go over to Photo, wait for the manager, then wait for them to check the shelf tag and then they refund me half of the half price item. Not sure if the sale price is really worth it but keep trying anyway cause it's right up the street. read more

Personally have never had an outright bad experience here, yet i have never used the pharmacy so i can't speak to some of the negative experiences people have been mentioning. I just come here for the occasional groceries when i am feeling too lazy to walk to Safeway or Fred Meyer. PRO TIP: If you like sending postcards they have THE CHEAPEST Oregon photograph postcards i have EVER seen around here, at 25 cents each!!! Since i am an avid postcrossing and swap-bot member, i am always looking for postcards to pick up on the cheap! I've never had bad customer service here. Some of the younger clerks seem slightly clueless, but very friendly and well meaning. Older woman and longtime cashier there, Joy, is slightly gruff but extremely helpful. read more
