They are understaffed. Their computer breaks down frequently and their phone system puts the customer on hold for hours at a time. This is the last time I use this pharmacy. I called at 8:45 AM to get a mental health script filled that they've had on hold for a week. She said she'd fill it but it would take three hours. The Walgreen's in Purcellville, VA has awful service. The female pharmacist I spoke with originally only gave me 10 pills out of the prescribed 180 prescription for my MS (Multiple Sclerosis) prescription. I went back to get the remaining 170 pills of my prescription, and the female pharmacist argued with me that I had already picked up the entire 180 prescribed pills. I showed her the original prescription bottle they filled earlier that indicated "10/180" pills of the Rx were filled. She argued with me that I had already picked up the entire 180 pills of my prescription. However, the computer print out she gave me indicated that the prescription was only $29 which is way low for the Rx I was prescribed. The price and the original Rx bottle they filled indicated that only 10/180 pills had been originally filled. I pointed this out to her, but she was rude. She indicated that I had already picked up and took the entire 180 pill Rx. This way of thinking is ridiculous and not possible since I would have OD'd on the medication. I've had screwups in the past by this branch Walgreen's pharmacists, but this one was the cherry on top. I will NEVER EVER go back to that Walgreen's even to get a Birthday card. I never write reviews like this, but the ridiculous and reckless behavior of the lady pharmacist just doesn't cut it for me any longer. It's bad enough that the meds were for MS and weren't filled like they were prescribed by my MS doctor, but what if it was heart medication? Don't even bother going here to get a prescription filled. We were seen in urgent care one evening and the prescription was sent to Walgreens pharmacy. They said the medication would be ready in one hour. Called one hour later, not ready. Called 2 hours later, still not ready and store closing. Called the pharmacist in the morning and she said they do not prioritize filling prescriptions. So, if you need an antibiotic, you may not get it until 12 hours after it is ordered. Note: Always get a written (not sent) prescription and if they cannot fill it, so to another pharmacy. read more

Walgreens by far is the worst Pharmacy I have ever dealt with the service is not there the people in the pharmacy just don't give a rat's ass. 14th of November for a scription sent in for epipens called on the 23rd prescription not filled troubles with Medicare need to call question why didn't you call no reply for other prescription sent by same doctor call 3 days later we don't have them 20 minutes later I get a call from the pharmacy oh we found them well as far as I'm concerned you can stick them up your ASS. This Walgreens location totally deserves some love. I know they've faced their fair share of hardships with covid, staffing shortage, technology malfunctions, and a growing consumer base that's hard to keep up with. Despite all this, they have literally never let me down. I tend to have crazy insurance battles and doctors issues for my simple prescription but the pharmacists ALWAYS work with me and do everything they can to help me out in any way possible. They always make sure I'm either waking out of there with my prescription that day or the following one. I also watch them get berated by angry costumers in a huge line but they still always service me with a smile and even remember my name and ask how I'll doing. I genuinely don't know how they do it, I'd be in tears after the way I've seen people treat them. Again, I appreciate everything they do and they deserve more recognition for all the hard work they do to provide for us. As long as you're kind and treat them with respect, they will always do the same for you! read more

Ever since Walgreens closed the Purcellville Rite Aid next door, they have stopped accepting calls and they are often out of stock for common prescription medications. When I call, the typical experience is a phone maze that disconnects at ~28 minutes. So my family is relegated to driving to Walgreens while sitting on hold...when we get to the pharmacy, there is a 33% chance the medication is out of stock. read more

Every time I come to Walgreens there's a huge line. Whether it's in the store or in the drive through line. I was on the verge of switching pharmacies to begin with but the cherry on top was having to wait in the drive through line twice because they couldn't find the prescription that I confirmed was called in. It was an error on Walgreens part which could have been avoided. Instead, I spent over 45 minutes waiting for my 18 month old's medicine for flu and ear infection. I had a total knee replacement surgery just over two weeks ago. My surgical site became infected two days after the surgery. Ask anyone who knows about knee replacement, it is a horribly painful procedure. If you get infected, the pain level increases exponentially (do to the increased swelling and tissue destruction). This past Wednesday, September 7, at around 6pm in the evening, my husband took a prescription for my pain meds (that my doctor had just written that morning) to the Purcellville Walgreens. He returned to pick up the prescription on Thursday evening. He was told that the prescription would be ready in a few minutes. He sat down and waited 30 minutes at which point the pharmacy employee advised him that this prescription could not be filled until Saturday because we had just filled another prescription for pain medicine within the past week. This struck me odd because the prescription that we were trying to fill was for a different medication and a different dosage than the medicine that we had picked up earlier in the week. I then decreased the amount of pain medicine that I was already using in order to make it last until Saturday to try to control the pain that I should have been controlling with my legally written, yet refused to be dispensed, pain medicine. My husband returned to pick up the pain medicine on Saturday afternoon (as advised by Walgreens). He was then told that he could not pick up the prescription until SUNDAY. He was told it was still one day early to pick up this prescription. He left in disbelief. I remained suffering in an incredible amount of pain. We tried to research narcotic dispensing regulations and could not find anything that would bar dispensing the script as written. My husband returned to the Walgreens on Sunday morning and was told that the prescription could still not be filled and he should "come back tomorrow" Monday, September 12. It has now been FIVE DAYS since we first dropped off my pain med prescription. At this point, he realized that there was a severe problem with this pharmacy and asked for the prescription to be returned to him. He asked what was driving the decision NOT TO DISPENSE my much needed pain medicine. Was it driven by the DEA, the insurance, or what? He was advised that it was neither. It was between store policy and pharmacist discretion. He informed them that I had recently had total knee replacement that had become infected and I was in an enormous amount of pain. Walgreens is able to verify that I am being treated for an infection with 2 different IV antibiotics because their subsidiary, Option Care 3 has been filling my IV antibiotic prescriptions and home healthcare supplies. The clerk said that we had just received a "ten day supply" of pain medicine on Wednesday. We had NOT received a ten day supply on Wednesday, because they had refused to fill it! They then returned the prescription to my husband without filling it. My husband came home and contacted our insurance. He was told that they had paid the claim for that prescription on Wednesday, September 7 (the day that we dropped of the prescription). He was advised by our insurance that he could not take the prescription to any other pharmacy, because it showed that it had already been filled and our insurance had ALREADY PAID FOR THE FILLED PRESCRIPTION. The insurance company said that he would have to go back to Walgreens to have the charge reversed before this prescription could be filled elsewhere. The insurance company also informed him that there were NO RESTRICTIONS either from our insurance company or any laws that would prohibit or delay the dispensing of this prescription from the beginning. He then called Walgreens corporate and explained the situation. They said that they would review it and that someone would contact the store on Monday because there is no one available to review customer complaints on the weekends. My husband drove back to the Walgreens again. This was only about an hour after he had been there and asked for the prescription to be returned to him, but there was a different clerk behind the counter. This clerk explained that she could not find anything about the prescription in their system. He informed her that he had just spoken with our insurance and that their records indicated that this prescription had already been dispensed and that they had already reimbursed Walgreens for this still UNFILLED prescription. The clerk called our insurance company and she said they advised her that the charge was already reversed. My husband asked when it was reversed. She said that she could only advise that it had been cleared within the last 48 hours. My husband left the store and called our insurance carrier from the parking lot of the Walgreens. He was told that Walgreens had reversed the charge within the last ten minutes (while he was driving from our house to the Walgreens). At this point we have still not been able to have the prescription filled. read more

The pharmacy is so slow I don't know how they stay in Business especially with all the competition for rx. The drive thru is a joke. Sometimes it is even unattended even though it is supposed to be open. A very inefficient operation overall and the wait can take 10 or 15 minutes even with like one customer in line. Even longer with a few customers. Time to move somewhere else. read more

Nothing super duper that warrants 5 stars but they haven't made a mistake yet, so that's why 4 stars. I used to get my prescriptions from Rite-Aid but they messed up my prescriptions more times than I care to remember. So I switched to Walgreens and they have been spot on. Ample parking, no lines an a cute pharmacist, I'm happy. My only two recommendations are that when you go to the store counter there is almost never anyone there and I have to wait for them. Also, it would be nice to have a 24 hour pharmacy, or at least extended hours. read more

They had a problem with their photo printer which delayed our prints by over a day. They didn't call to tell us, so when I drove all the way out there, it was quite an inconvenience to hear the prints weren't ready. The next day they weren't printed until late; but the manager arranged for an employee to drive them to our house. They saw the prints were our holiday cards and wanted us to have them in time to send out before Christmas. Mechanical issues aren't their fault; but they went out of their way to make it right. I took a star off since they didn't tell us ahead of time; but they deserve the remaining 4 stars for the excellent customer service! Great job Walgreens team! read more

Walgreens, Purcellville, would be great if the employees were nice to people. I've been in there twice and the young people that work in there aren't very attentive. Both times, I've felt like an inconvenience to them. The last time, there were 4 employees standing around talking, while myself and another customer waited at the counter. I won't go back. Great hours, fast pharmacy service, very pleasant employees. Yes, one of the regular cashiers is slow, like another reviewer said, but he is obviously disabled. It's a bit cruel to fault the place for that. Besides, you can always bring your purchases to the pharmacy and they'll check you out.
