Higher viscosity leads to higher pressures which lead to seals leaking and failing. I'm really surprised you haven't researched this. How about the leaking oil filter a day after install? Seems like a sure way to get more money outta a customer once their engine gets starved of oil. How about the sloppy work with oil left all over my car? Lack of care and integrity. How about the scratches from resting my tires on the paint of my car? Lazy and inconsiderate. Pulled from the article that copied and pasted "Engine Design Changes: Newer Toyota engines are designed with tighter tolerances and specific lubrication needs that necessitate these thinner oils, such as OW-16 or OW-8." Exactly my 2019 Lexus ux250 is a newer Toyota engine if you weren't aware , so why are changing it?

It's a whole lot cheaper to use one bottle of coolant every month than to replace the radiator. That worked fine, until one day, the radiator said, I've had enough and started spewing more fluid than a drunk in the Gaslamp after a bender. I had no choice. I had to take the car in to get the radiator fixed and replaced. I had been here before for a minor repair, where they took a dead battery out and replaced it with a new one. They did that quickly and inexpensively, so I went back to them. It was a Saturday, so I figured there'd be no way I'd get my car back that weekend. I especially figured that would be the case when they called me at around noon and told me what needed to be done. I was wrong. They called me back in the late afternoon and told me my car was ready. And the price was a LOT lower than what I was quoted by a number of other places. Quick service, at a lower price than other shops? Hopefully, I will never need to get my car repaired again. But if I do, I'll have no hesitation taking it back here.

After inspecting the car, they told me the issue was the fuel filler neck and quoted me about $746 for the repair, even though the part itself costs around $150. The price seemed extremely high for such a repair. What made the situation even worse is that after waiting about a week, the problem still appeared again from the same area. Instead of helping or rechecking the issue properly, they continued to ask for more money. As a customer, this feels very frustrating. A repair that costs a small amount for the part should not suddenly turn into such an expensive job, especially when the problem still isn't fully resolved. I would recommend others to be careful and always get a second opinion before agreeing to repairs here.

In an industry that's routinely diminished by unethical characters looking to take advantage of customers, I can say with confidence that they are the most honest and transparent auto service business I have ever dealt with. The biggest indication of this was the fact that they answered all of my questions honestly even when those answers weren't necessarily to the benefit of their business. Whether the question was about pricing, needed repairs, the purpose of running certain tests, and/or how long a fix might take, I never once felt unsure about the validity or truthfulness of what they were telling me. I've lived in San Diego for almost 30 years and have lived downtown for half of that. They are the best auto repair shop in the area without a doubt. They were able to repair my BMW 335i(E93) in a day! It's running great. I also appreciated the constant communication throughout and even after the whole process. They actually care about their customers! They will be my go-to auto repair shop going forward. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a hassle free, no BS, fully transparent and honest auto repair service. Thanks for the wonderful experience!

Select German Car Service - A Hidden Gem for Porsche Owners…read more Tired of the endless wait times and lack of transparency at local Porsche dealerships, I decided to explore other options for a simple oil change. I took a chance and posted a project on Yelp, hoping to find a shop that could treat my car with the respect it deserves. After reviewing responses and chatting with a few contenders, I landed on Select German Car Service--and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I arrived, I knew I'd made the right choice. Max, the owner, greeted me warmly, and the technician, Mel was clearly someone who understood the value of a well-loved Porsche. The shop itself was immaculate--organized, professional, and filled with stunning Porsches of every model, color, and vintage. It felt more like a showroom than a garage. What truly impressed me was the care and attention to detail. The technician covered my seats, opened doors and the hood with precision, and handled my car like it was his own. That level of respect is rare--and deeply appreciated. While my car was being serviced, I took a scenic 1.5-mile walk to Better Buzz Coffee for a little exercise and a fantastic cup of coffee. By the time I returned, my Porsche was parked, gleaming, and ready to hit the road. She looked just as gorgeous as when I dropped her off--and purred like a dream on the freeway. No upselling. No drama. Just honest, professional service at a fair price. I'll absolutely be returning for future work on my other German vehicle. Huge thanks to Max and the team at Select German Car Service--you've earned a loyal customer.
