I've had two oil changes with this location in fall 2018 and late winter 2019. In both instances I brought in my own filter and oil, because it was $20 cheaper then their ~$70 fee. First was a weekday afternoon, second was a Saturday morning. First was quick with no issues. Second I waited a little over an hour after my car had been pulled into their garage, and then I seemingly had no issues afterward. 2 months and 2400 miles after the oil change, my 2010 vehicle began smelling like burning oil and would generate smoke from oil being burned on the exhaust manifold. After looking into it, a pinhole leak was located on the filter from where the technician had obviously used either some form of wrench or excessive force to install the new filter. Additionally, the oil (conventional/high mileage, not synthetic) was very dark for less than 3,000 miles of use on the supposed change. I came back to the shop right after discovering it and requested a refund for the ~$20 install fee. Because of the length of time that had passed between install and the leak developing, they offered my next oil change to be free and a car wash voucher at that moment. I turned down their offer and corrected the mistake in my own garage. At that time I also found out they failed to oil the o-ring on the filter before install, making it very difficult to remove when doing the DIY oil change on my own. Overall, their staff is generally friendly and moderately knowledgeable on oil changes, but some employees are likely to make attempts to upsell additional services. Besides the oil filter being damaged and the oil being excessively dark, no other concerns about the care of my vehicle were noted. I am giving one star, because a filter should never be damaged during an install if handled correctly, and fixing their mistake was costly and time consuming. read more

I have always been a loyal customer of Quick Nicks and had taken my car there several times over the past years. I was planning on leaving Nebraska and one day before I had to pull out, my clutch pedal gave out. I called a mechanic buddy of mine, told him what happened, and he said "tell them it's your line, probably has a leak." I called up Quick Nicks and relayed the message to the mechanic. I also told him I had to leave the next night, so if he couldn't fix it in that short a time, I understood completely. Him and the owner, Nick, were extremely accommodating and got my car in that day. The mechanic called me later that afternoon and said, "its' not your line, probably gonna be about 800 dollars, but I can get it running for you before you leave." I was ecstatic, and gave him the go-ahead. I PAID NICK THE 800 DOLLARS FROM MY CREDIT CARD. I'm a broke as a joke college student and I needed to get to my new job, so I picked up my car that night, pulled 1 mile down the road, and the clutch gave out again. I called them back the next morning and relayed what happened. I asked if there was anything they could do. The mechanic told me he wasn't sure what it could be but wanted to try again and get me on the road that night for my trip. Again I was grateful and told him to go for it. HE SAID IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 400 DOLLARS, BUT SAID IT WOULD DO THE TRICK, I TOLD HIM TO GO FOR IT. He told me to come at five for the car. I pulled up at five, and saw my car still up on blocks. The mechanic said "yeah, it was your line after all, but I found another one in Omaha and I'm putting it on for you right now." I was a little confused, since he had already told me it wasn't the line, but I was also ready to take the car, however it was. They got the car back down for me, the clutch pedal seemed to work ok, and the mechanic handed me my keys. I asked him what I owed him and he said "we're all square, I'm just glad I got it running for you." I started the trip to Ohio, 3 hours in the clutch didn't allow me to change gears again and I drove the whole way power-shifting and hugging the shoulder. When I got to Ohio I had a mechanic look at it and he said, "well, whoever did this must have been in a hurry, cause they left your lines full of air, that's why you have no pressure. This is a 50 dollar fix" I knew the mechanic was in a hurry, but since Quick Nicks hadn't charged me for the last line, I didn't think too much about it. I had paid 1200 dollars to Quick Nicks at this point, but like I said, I was always a loyal fan. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS, I GET A BILL FROM PROFESSIONAL CHOICE RECOVERY DEBT COLLECTORS TELLING ME QUICK NICKS IS CHARGING ME 341.56 FOR THE LAST LINE, THAT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME WAS ON THE HOUSE. Quick Nicks had my phone number, but never called. They also had my email, as I had taken my car to them several times, but did not email me. I had no idea I still owed them money, especially since the mechanic handed me my keys and told me "we're all square." I called the Nick the owner and asked why nobody tried to get in touch with me before sending me to collections; he didn't really give me a clear answer, stating that they sent a bill to my old address. They have a statement on their website saying: "We are family-owned and our mission is to care for our customers with superior service, knowledge and products for people and their vehicles" THIS IS NOT HOW THEY TREATED ME, OR MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOW PAID 1541.56 FOR A LEAKY CLUTCH LINE, AND I STILL HAD TO HAVE ANOTHER MECHANIC FINISH THE JOB FOR THEM. I'M NOT MAD, JUST VERY DISAPPOINTED THIS IS HOW QUICK NICKS IS CHOOSING TO TREAT A LOYAL CUSTOMER. AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE, I WOULD WARN ANYONE THINKING OF TAKING THEIR CAR TO QUICK NICKS TO THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING THEIR CAR INTO THE HANDS OF THIS SHOP. read more

I LOVE this place. I don't take my car anywhere else - they do such a fabulous job to accommodate anything I need. My car always gets vacuumed, air pressure in my tires checked, fluids checked, everything that makes me feel great when I drive away. The last time I swung by I was in a hurry and they were able to get my car in and out at a crazy fast pace. Went in to have them find a leak in my cooling system and for an Uber inspection. They found the leak, which was fine, but then proceeded to try to sell me additional parts I didn't need to fix it. But that is not the reason for the low review. On the Uber inspection they failed my vehicle due to the brake pads being to thin and bushings being worn out on the steering. Upon further inspection by myself I found they understated the brake pad thickness by more than half, and there was no wear in the bushings. I confronted them (after waiting an hour past when they said they could get me in) and they insisted the brake pad inspection was a mistake, and that the bushings were actually worn out. I left and went to another mechanic to get my car inspected and it passed everything. They are just trying to take advantage of ignorant people, and when confronted about it, would not admit it. read more

I went to Quick Nick's for oil changes while a student at UNL and thought they were friendly and helpful. I've since moved to Minneapolis and when I was visiting, I decided to get an oil change. They'd never done me wrong before and they were a company I trusted. I was confused the minute I pulled up when the mechanic asked me which kind of oil they had used before. I had no idea. The oil change took all of 10 minutes, but the mechanic showed me a sample of my transmission and rear differential fluids, telling me they were dirty. He asked if he could change them. He also said my driver's headlight was out. All of this I ok'd (stupidly) because they'd never led me wrong before. The mechanic returned about 10 minutes later to say the socket in my headlight was going out and something about doing a transmission flush. This is when I began to become alarmed. I definitely did NOT want a transmission flush, which can definitely do more harm than good. I finally got it straightened out, but I was left feeling like the mechanic had no idea what he was doing. He changed my rear differential which I later learned was about 15,000 miles too soon. He then told me he was unable to change my transmission fluid because it was "not serviceable." I looked in my driver's manual to learn it was in fact serviceable, but shouldn't be done for anther 45,000 miles. I was glad he hadn't changed it, but it left me wondering if he was dumb or merely incompetent by telling me it was not serviceable. Perhaps the most disturbing was that he told me he had replaced the headlight, but the socket was going bad. Later that night I turned on my headlights and it wasn't working. I called the next morning and spoke with the same man only to find he was not concerned, didn't want to look at it again, and wouldn't give me a refund. I was returning to Minneapolis that day so I stopped by the Walker Tire in Omaha where another mechanic looked at my headlight. Contrary to what Quick Nick's told me, my headlight didn't work because it wasn't "plugged in." This entire experience was so ridiculous I would encourage everyone to avoid Quick Nick's like the plague. read more

"We are family-owned and our mission is to care for our customers", this is their mantra on their website. So, all that goes out the window if you are moving out of, or into 8N. Heads up to all that are moving out today or into 8N in the future, whether you have done business with them or not, use one of their spots in the alley for 5 minutes or longer, you will be towed and the city and Capital Towing have a nice gig going at $140 per vehicle. The neighborly thing to do, and maybe a good business move, would be to allow the students to use the space in the alley for the half day to move out, or rope it off so they can't park there. There is nothing convenient about parking around there. Meters do fill up. Don't be so quick to call a tow truck on someone that has done business with you, or potentially could. I assume you have students yourselves, or will have in the future. Treat them how you want others to treat your students. You have taken yourselves off my list of possible places to do business in the future. read more
