Roman failed to apply for required permit to legally access sewer. Upon filing a complaint and taking Roman to small claims court I was referred by the judge to superior court. His admission and reason for not getting said permit was that he was not certified to work on sewer systems. Consequently he was not able to obtain a permit nor did he try. The permit dept. admitted that they could not charge him with anything because he did all the work he needed permits for after the inspection dept for seattle closed. He came after hours to avoid inspection. He also threw dirt on my neighbors property, hitting their house. Our sewer pipe should've been replaced, but instead it was patched for over $10k dollars! He's reckless, untrustworthy and will not hesitate to skirt laws in order to finish the job (poorly) and get paid. Watch out for his "after hours" work. It may be done illegally not to mention incorrectly and to your expense. Do not use Wallingford Plumbing for your plumbing work. read more

Roman at Wallingford Plumbing is a superb plumber. He was able to diagnose our problem in a short period of time. But, more importantly, his solution to the problem, which was very serious - galvanic corrosion causing a major drainage pipe to deteriorate, risking a flooded basement, was highly informed by his deep knowledge, and he executed his work at a Master Craftsman level. I am sure this was not the first time that Roman has corrected and then upgraded the shoddy work of lesser plumbers. He sent us pictures as he conducted his work, so we had full transparency into his work and progress. And he educated us as to the systemic problems and risks we faced. For simple fixes, Roman will do a good job, but I would not recommend him for problems that get more complicated. He has a great attitude, but ultimately does not care about fixing a problem correctly when he can charge more money. Our friend said that she thought she dropped her cell phone in our toilet, and a week later our toilet was clogged. I called Roman who fixed the clog, and he told us everything was fixed. I told him about the possibility that something was stuck in the toilet, but he said the toilet was all fixed so we paid him and he left. Two weeks later, our toilet clogged again, so I called Roman. He fixed the clog, but just before leaving, we noticed the toilet was flushing very slowly. Sure enough, he checked again and found the phone stuck in the toilet. He told us we'd have to get a new toilet, but we'd have to pay for that separately - at full price - and would not take in account his previous work, which failed to find the problem that was suspected all along. So, we were out over $350 for two visits only to confirm that a phone was in our toilet. He also left a mess with poop and water all over the floor. We later found someone to replace the toilet for a better price and better service. Basically, he's an amiable guy, but you can find better service at a much better price. read more

I hate to be the bad guy here, with all of the 5 star reviews, but I do feel a bit taken by Roman. We had two clogged toilets in our house that Roman fixed quickly and efficiently. He was polite and friendly and I really can't complain about the end result of the repair. My issue is the cost of his services. Yes, plumbers cost a lot. We all know that. And that's not the issue. The problem is that Roman used his auger to clear out our toilets. And he charged us an extra $45 for the use of the auger. Now, if the use of the auger caused the auger to become unusable for his next client or if there were some expendable components to the auger that needed to be changed out prior to its next use, I'd get the point. But, this was simply a charge for using the auger on top of the hourly rate for Roman's presence in our home (and, by the way, he was at our home for less than half an hour and charged us for an hour of his time. . . hmmm, travel time perhaps?). If I have a carpenter do work on my home, does he charge me for the use of his hammer or screwdriver? No. If an electrician works on my home, does he charge me for the use of his drill? No. So, I do not expect or support the notion that a plumber should charge for the use of an auger. Perhaps this is an industry standard. I don't know. But, it shouldn't be, and if it is, then Roman, and Wallingford Plumbing is the unfortunate recipient of my distaste for this practice. Would I recommend Wallingford Plumbing? Perhaps. Really, Roman was very nice and efficient. But, I'm not keen on the billing practices, so ASK before you engage his services. read more

Christmas eve day, and my toilet in my new apartment completely stops up. I spent hours trying to solve the problem, trying to contact my landlord, and watching as the holiday crept closer.... I called several neighborhood plumbers that day and Roman returned my call quickly despite Christmas approaching. He came, he struggled (that made me feel good -at least the problem wasn't something I should have been able to handle), and he fixed it! All with good humor and kindness. Considering he was one of only a couple of plumbers working, he could have charged an added holiday fee, but Roman was totally reasonable. I'd happily call him again in the future. First, they were VERY accommodating and even though it had been a very long day for him he understood that we were having a party and came over to fix our sink. Roman was very knowledgeable and friendly. He fielded any questions I had and was very open about what he was doing, which I really appreciated. We have a very special alignment underneath the sink and he was able to find a solution that was much more workable for our budget than it would have been to lower the drain which goes outside the house. The only issue I had was his inability to estimate the time he was going to be able to get to our house. This isn't necessarily something he can control because each job is unique and since I'm sure he doesn't know the situation until he arrives he cannot guess how long a job will take (which is why they don't lose stars for this and they were squeezing us in anyway). He periodically called to let us know he hadn't forgotten about us though, so I knew he would come eventually. It was worth the wait to get our sink fixed. read more

We highly recommend Roman of Wallingford Plumbing. He picked up immediately on our first call to him and responded the next day and finished up a leaking fixture issue the same day. He did a workmanlike job at a fair price which was a huge relief after we had been ripped by one of the major advertising plumbing outfits in town, and seen our neighbors similarly ripped by another one of these big advertisers. Roman proffered some good free advice about contacting the city regarding a free replacement of a long worn out shut off valve at street level (which we did while Roman was here) as well as offering other good advice about repair and maintenance of plumbing in our 1928 home, all without any up selling or stick ups for an emergency response. I was extremely impressed with Wallingford Plumbing. I have rental property in the Green Lake area and was contacted by one of my tenants with a plumbing issue neither they nor myself could address. Since I hadn't used a plumber in the area for quite some time I reviewed the Yelp ratings and comments and gave Wallingford Plumbing a call. Roman answered the phone, had me describe the problem and told me he would followup with the tenant that day. True to his word he did so, set a time with the tenant that would work for both later in the day, showed up on time, fixed the problem professionally, cleaned up the area perfectly and emailed me a bill detailing the work. Very fair price. I was perhaps most impressed by the fact that he didn't demand up-front money. Roman picked up the phone at 6:30am when I found water all over our basement floor... the water heater was broken. He showed up by 8 and had a pump going by 8:30. He replaced and removed the water heater within the day. I also did call another plumber to ask for the cost of a water heater of our size and Wallingford plumber was just a little less than the quote. I cant comment on Mr. Szarowski's work. His sewer repair was not inspected because he failed to get a required permit. When asked about required permit Mr Szarowski lied, saying none was required. After reading the side sewer ordinance, 21.16.070 in open court judge Marcine Anderson asked Mr. Szarowski why he didn't get the required permit. He said your honor I did not get the permit because I am not certified to work on sewer. NOT CERTIFIED!? Get at least two more bids by qualified contractors. Especially if you are a senior citizen who has difficuty getting around. I would give negative stars if I could. -Doris B. read more

If you're looking for a plumber who's professional, knowledgeable, and ethical, look elsewhere. I hired Roman to fix the diverter on the faucet on the tub in my master bath. I went upstairs after he'd been working for a few minutes to find him standing in my expensive pedestal tub with his shoes on and wrenches and other tools scattered across the bottom of the tub. Any plumber who knows anything will put down a protective blanket before getting into the tub to work--that's any plumber who knows anything. Now I have ugly black scratches in my $3,000 tub to remember him by. When he thought he was finished he had me turn the water main back on, but he hadn't put the faucet back together properly so water sprayed all over my master suite. As I scrambled to find enough towels to soak up the mess he laughed and said, "It's no big deal." Not to him--it wasn't his house. The whole fiasco would have been funny if I weren't the one paying for it. He took a part with him and said he'd try to find a match at plumbing supply houses because he said it was not a standard part. He said he'd let me know if he could find it so I would know how to proceed. He never called back. I was left with a $120 bill, a faucet that didn't function, scratches in my tub, and no part to try to match with a replacement. When I called him a few months later (I had been traveling for an extended period of time and the tub issue had to go on the back burner for awhile) he swore he had never taken the part and was angry with me because "it was so long ago." No accountability whatsoever. Avoid this amateur at all costs. read more

My wall-mount kitchen sink faucet stems rusted and were slowly flooding my kitchen cabinet, wall, and crawl space below. Roman replaced two rusted stems and put back the antique faucet. My problem with his work is that he unnecessarily cut a huge hole in my wall, 6"x16", to do the work, and I can't afford the domino-effect kitchen remodel I'd like to do to fix it. As I watched, I thought the cutting of the wall must be necessary, but then after watching the fix, realized it was totally unnecessary. I don't know what he was thinking... perhaps he wanted to replace some old pipes as well, but then changed his mind. I didn't ask because it took me until after he left to realize the cutting was unnecessary. (In his defense I'll admit that the backsplash had faucet rust stains.) So now I am living with a hole in my wall, (much worse than just rust stains) which I have stuffed with plastic bubble wrap, and due to expense, have no imminent plans to repair. By the way, the cost came to $400, at time and a half Saturday work, to replace two stems, and put back the existing faucet. I'll let you decide if that was a reasonable price. Roman is a personable guy, but I think of him every time I use my sink and look at the huge hole in the wall, and would not use him again. read more

Mixed experiences. First time, I called to help identify the source of water in the cabinet under my kitchen sink. He thought it might be a supply pipe so cut a hole in the cabinet bottom. No leak. But then he hit on it: lack of caulk at bottom of backsplash. I repaired the caulk myself and patched the hole in the cabinet. Second time, I called because I had identified a leak in the faucet handle in the kitchen. He suggested I buy a new faucet and call him to install it. I found out an exact replacement was $250. I did some internet research, called the manufacturer (Moen) and found out that I needed a 3/32" Allen wrench to remove the handle. After that I tightened the nut holding the cartridge. No leak. Did I need a new faucet? Frankly, his response sounded pretty lazy to me. I was willing to pay him an hour for doing what I did in 15 minutes. You be the judge. read more

We first used him several months ago for an issue with our home toilet - he Macgyvered a fix for an old, crappily installed toilet that needed to be fixed.
