I was in yesterday with my mother, who is 79. She had a chili dog and I ordered a cheese burger. When the girl brought out my burger I asked if she wouldn't mind bringing some Mayo as well. She looked at me as if I was totally out of line. The odd thing, was that she didn't bring it, a customer that was sitting behind us, who had just gotten out of his seat, brought it to me. He never said a word, and just dropped it on the table, then sat back down. I remember people there being friendlier last time I was inside. I'd recommend the drive-thru through. I was in recently for the delicious chicken strips, yum, hand breaded, light and crispy. Imagine my surprise when I got home and opened the box! There were a handful of the nastiest, dried up chicken nuggets I have ever seen. It looked and tasted pitiful! I'm not sure what the breading was, but it was horrible. Looked straight out of the freezer. The cat wouldn't touch it and the dog spit it out. One single, limp piece of Texas toast and no fries at all. This would uhave been overpriced at $5. I called the manager to ask what happened and she explained that they had made these changes and that is the new chicken meal. I used to think the chicken strips were the best around, next time, McDonalds (5 stars compared to this). I try to support local business every time, but I expect a little love back. Very poor service for a 13 dollar burger. Will NEVER come here again. Berger tasted good, nice and hot when it arrived. Ordered and waited for mayo for my fries and it NEVER showed up, so I only ate the burger after it was cool because I like to eat the fries with the burger, and didn't get to eat the fries because they didn't provide the condiments I asked for. The portion of fries was disappointing compared to the 44oz fountain drink which I told them I didn't really want but they stated the price difference was negligible if I didn't get it. Talked to the manager who offered something on the next visit... I will not go back. read more

I was finding lunch for a friend who is doing chemo at TX Oncology and she was craving a burger. In searching the area online first, Wally's came up and I am so very glad that it did. It was a quick in and out drive-thru experience. I had a somewhat complicated order and they got each part correct. The french fries were perfectly cooked (a lot like the McDonald's fries in shape). The burgers were like that off of a greasy spoon grill and the butterscotch shake was fabulous, according to my friend. She said everything really hit the spot, for which I was really grateful. Ranks up there with best in town. Wally's makes the best burger joint shakes in town: hands down. I wish they would bring back the Hot Fudge shake because it was delicious. But even without it, their shakes are perfect. They are seriously addicting. It's hard to stay away from them. When it comes to burgers and fries, Wally's is up there at the top. They have great fries, great environment, pleasant staff, and their burgers are always satisfying. I have not ever had a bad meal there. If you haven't been to Wally's, check them out. They are really good. Out of all the burger places, they are my favorite. read more

Amazing milkshakes, everything else is slightly mediocre. I recommend fries with a chocolate or vanilla milkshake.

Awesome family style service with incredible food. The tacos are not made to eat just one.... I always end up eating four or five. Hamburgers are crazy GOOD! Finish up with ice cream and big belly. Love this place read more

You know, I love Wally's. Or at least, I did. These past few months, though, there's an employee at the register who just gives me the CREEPS. He stares at my body the entire time I'm placing my order, cracks inappropriate jokes, and then delivers my food by standing SO close over the table that I feel trapped - or hands me my to-go bag by cornering me so I practically have to shove past him to get out the door. I've mentioned it to the management - nothing. Can't seem to get the comment form on the website to work, either. Sorry, Wally's - I love your food, but I'm not going back, because of this guy. I shouldn't have to run the creep gauntlet just to get a burger, and you guys obviously don't care. read more

Good burgers, good chicken strips, good fries, and fantastic shakes...an all around good burger joint. The employees are sometimes kind of surly, but it doesn't seem to seep into the food. In fact, I once noticed they had an ad up in the restaurant saying that they were "hiring smiling faces", but then noticed that in the employee photos, nobody was smiling. read more

I was a Wally's customer when it was on Airport. Imagine my pleasure when I discovered it on Mesa, right around the corner from my work. I agree that the chicken strips and burgers are great...however, recently I had a burger with purple onion (yuk) Now I like purple onion, but being a burger purist , the onion should not be purple on a hamburger, it's just wrong.......ok, maybe a personal preference. Hopefully they were using it as a substitute that day???? The folks are friendly, the place is clean, the owner is Austin ....he and I had a great chat one day about all the old burger places in Austin, including 2-J's and the famous Toonerville, Holiday House...ya'll getting some flashbacks on the "good ol' days" in Austin? Remember the Stallion? I regress.....4 stars because they are good folks who serve up a generous helping of "howdy".. Went today with Girl Scouts for a tour--staff was fabulous and food was as good as always. Gotta love Wally's

They have GREAT milkshakes and wally bangers, but I'm not a big fan of their food. The frenchfries are amazing, but thats about all I like. We go there about two or three times a week for the 5 years, and all the people at the drive-through know our names. They are a bunch of friendly people. read more

Visited this place for the first time. Very inexpensive but the food was average. The chicken sandwhich had salt a bit too much salt. Nice and clean place though with adequate seating. read more

I hadn't been to Wally's in quite some time, but tried it again. The burger and fries were very good, as was the customer service. I was disappointed, however, that the TV had Fox News on, since that particular channel is so unpopular in Austin, including the northwest area where demographics are changing so much. I think it would be a better business decision to have something on TV that is more neutral, instead of a political channel that upsets many people in Austin. I'm still giving four stars for the good food and service. read more

I like the burgers here, they are delicious. However, when judging a burger joint a lot of the criticism can be derived from the sides, ie fries. There is no easy way to put this other than their fries suck. They put to much salt on them or something. A nice cut, good quality potato, terrible seasoning. Its like if you're going to take amazing blue bell ice cream and cover it in poop its still ice cream covered in poop. I use to work down the street and have been here many times. Its a good change in pace of other burger places but I always felt like I let myself down whenever I ordered from there. If you do go, try the chicken fingers, they're pretty good. The only reason why they got a 3 instead of a 2 is because their service is top notch. Anyone that has an old guy at the counter that sounds like hes been serving burgers since the war gets bonus points in my book... and those bonus points came in the form of a 3. read more

Big disappointment. Out of Towner, driving by, saw what looked like an independent burger joint. Was hoping for a specially ground and seasoned fresh meat patty, maybe even might have a "secret" owner sauce even. It is pure fast food "wanna be" trash. Think elementary school cafeteria food. Real high price for very low end quality and flavor. Would bet nothing is made in house / from scratch. read more

Burger and fries were okay. Definitely pricey for what you get. I've never been to a restaurant where you pay $7 for a kids meal with no toy but toy sized fries. It will be quite a while before we go back read more

The burgers and chicken both are not cooked to order and can sit around for a long time when they're not busy. When they're relatively fresh and hot, the burgers are acceptable to good and the chicken tenders are good. When it's been sitting around awhile, all of the food is pretty unappealing. read more

The food is good, people are nice, but it is Surprisingly Expensive.

I've eaten here several times and the burgers are horrible! They never cook the meat fully, they just barely brown the meat on each side and that's it!! How nasty is that? I like my meat well done - some people I know like things rare or medium rare but to just cook meat barely enough on both sides is nasty! I will never eat here again! Don't go! I'm raising hell and trying to bring them back - I mean, who can beat a bacon-cheeseburger wrap when you need a treat and can't handle all the bloaty starchy gluten of a bun?? I like a burger where the patty is larger than the bun. "The Engineer" burger really satisfies. Quality much improved from my visit last year. I agree with previous posts that the order taker, Scott Jones, gets a "10" for courtesy. I'll return soon. read more

These might be the best burgers in Austin, rivaled only by Dart Bowl and slightly above Top Notch. The fries could use a little more time in the oil, but the service was FAST and the place is packed for lunch. If you're not on a diet, grab a shake. They're awesome. read more

Just tried the chicken strip box. Gross. The roll was a tiny joke. Chicken really didn't taste good, no flavor at all. Fries were way too salty. I'm mad this place is the only food drive thru on my way to work. I would rather be hungry. I never throw away food I paid for, that's a waste of money, but the food is in the trash. read more

Just went through the drive through at Wally's and maybe I'm blind but I didn't see anything about just plain, vanilla soft serve ice cream. I understand that people answering drive through orders might be distracted by customers inside, but I just wanted to ask what sizes were available. The gal on the speaker didn't seem to be paying attention to me and assumed I said the word "chocolate." Then when I corrected her, she was rude when I drove up. Oh well Wally's. I didn't want a battle over a vanilla cone. Look at your drive through menu. I may be wrong but all I saw was Wallybanger this and that. read more

this is an update of my previous review. seems like the saltiness of the burgers was just a one time thing. i tried the milk shake and i was addicted instantly. this will be my new burger place as long as i am in austin. read more
