I had a few returns to make and sometimes it's just easier to do it in person instead of trying to return online orders through the mail. This location on the south side is almost like a campground. During the summer months this place is like a hotspot for tourists to line up in their campers and RVs in the back of the parking lot. I'm pretty sure at least some of them sleep here and not just load up on groceries but I could be wrong. Walking through the parking lot is actually the loudest I've ever heard the security stations. They blast really lively music pretty loudly. It was almost like soft carnival music and no lyrics. Not bad at all in walking to and from your car but I can see how this would deter homeless people or thefts. It's loud enough that a lot of people in the parking lot were paying attention to the speaker playing. The return process was fine. It was easiest to return items I bought online and just scan the barcode in the Walmart app. I did have one return that my husband bought one hid card on the same account but since it wasn't the same the customer service couldn't pull up a receipt for the return. Basically this just meant that it got returned as a store credit instead of to my bank account. Totally fine. She did need my id to make the return and I think you only get so many returns without a receipt in a certain time frame. The store insight was incredibly bright and colorful and the guy at the entry was super friendly coming and going. read more

I have to give a shout out to Walmart optical on the Old Seward Highway . I was able to find an affordable pair of prescription safety glasses for pickleball . I looked at 4-5 different optical stores . 3 of them didn't have any . The stores that did charged at least three times as much . The customer service is very good . Everyone is friendly and competent . Pat helped me with my glasses but Everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable. I was especially impressed with the quality of the lenses. read more

The hoity toity will always have negative things to say about Walmart and I understand. I've seen the documentaries, read all the things, laughed at all the meme's, yet it doesn't change the fact that it's the most affordable grocery/home goods option Alaska has. If you're in survival mode and/or would like to save a couple coins, Walmart Superstore is your best bet. However, If you're finding yourself there weekly, it may be cost effective to consider also shopping at Costco. Anyway, this Old Seward location is most preferred. As well as their locations in Eagle River, and the Peninsula, (where we usually purchase fishing licenses). I appreciate how organized this location is. How on top of each holiday and season they always are. I am easily able to curate shopping lists for my spouse, based on the known location of each item in store. Shopping trips can be knocked out in 30min. I am all about efficiency and getting out of stores ASAP. I can almost never do this at Fred Meyer, for example. Carrs and Fred Meyer have the best quality meats and produce for sure, but Walmart Superstore seems to consistently lead the way, price-wise. read more

I'm not a frequent shopper of Walmart. We were talking to a lady in a Costco of all places about Gluten Free and we got in the subject of bread. There's a brand called Udie's Leila likes, she doesn't like Franz's GF Bread so we always get Udie's. Well in a matter of minutes we discussed how Udie's falls apart it breaks a lot she recommended Canyon Bakehouse Country White GF Bread, her daughter loves it and their bagels. Bagels!?!? They make bagels, Leila loves bagels she has missed eating bagels for years! GF Bagels Oh My! It looks like I'll be coming here more often if she likes it. No bagels this trip they were out. Walmart grocery delivery has "stubbed its toe" three times in the past 3 week deliveries. I want to attribute the problems to the Holiday Shopping Rush--but with grocery deliveries--maybe not!! Of the three deliveries, one was an hour past the scheduled time, one was 5 hours past the scheduled time, and the third was delivered to the incorrect address and my wife had to flag the driver down and direct him to our house. It was still daylight and the house number is clearly visible(and I have an easily visible wheelchair ramp) which I try to give to the delivery driver by text or voice each time. WalMart did take corrective action(that remains to be seen) toward solving the problems. Just a note --we get weekly deliveries of groceries from the same store. read more

By far the worst experience in Walmart I have ever had. All the self checkouts are closed. There was 19 people in three lines waited for about eight minutes. found all the employees were taking a group picture, but none of the self checkouts were open. Just baffling. you put in all these self checkouts to service customers and get rid of jobs, but yet you still can't service your customers. read more

I noticed we were paying quite the premium stocking up on groceries for our cabin from Fred Meyers earlier in the week, so I was glad to have found a hypermarket (Just learned that word today!) in the area where we could pick up some last minute necessities for our travels at a decent price. Also, happy to see a section up front where we could pick up some Alaskan souvenirs to take back home with us at reasonable prices in comparison to the tourist trap gift shops in and near our hotels and cabins. For such a large superstore, we were painlessly in and out in under fifteen minutes with everything we needed located up front close to the registers. What more could you ask for? read more

Well it's been a little while between this review and the previous one. The reason for this is my frustration with the new format on Yelp's homepage. I was reluctant to continue writing reviews with such a hectic layout, but there have been so many great people I've gotten acquainted with in the past year and a half that it wouldn't be fair to stop all of a sudden. Despite my dislike for the main page, I will hold out hope for a return to the original format. I was in the area of Dimond and Old Seward so I decided to stop in to look for a Tri-Color and Black Ink Cartridge for my printer after comparing prices at Best Buy and Target. The parking lot is still bad in terms of space availability and constant traffic build-up by the entrances. With such a rough icy surface of the parking lot, it is tedious just to walk from your car to the front doors. Paying to have a winter contractor to de-ice or spread gravel on the roads would be a big help for the mass of customers walking in and out. I noticed that item availability has improved from my last visit and I was able to find several items this time around compared to the frustration I had of wasting an hour here on my last visit. Cleaning products were in full stock as well as bathroom items and groceries. The three-star update was for the specific item I mentioned earlier which was an HP 62 Tri-Color and Black Ink Cartridge for my home printer. I had gone to Target earlier in the day and they did not have this item available. I also went to Best Buy and I found that they had a two-pack with both cartridges at $41.99. There was no sale at the time and I was reluctant to pay that much for ink cartridges. I'm glad I waited since I found the same two-pack at Walmart on sale for $30.00. That was the best purchase I made that day and what made the experience better this time around was staying in the electronics area to pay for all my purchases thereby avoiding the long lines, crowds, and the frustration I went through last time at the front of the store. read more

Okay, I get what the previous reviewers were saying about Walmart... but you can't fault Walmart for being Walmart. It is what it is. And as far as this Walmart goes... it's a good one. I'm from Southern New Jersey which is the home to NUMEROUS ghetto Walmarts... and let me tell you, this Walmart is nice. And for as busy as this place is, especially during Christmas season, it was still well stocked and tidy. Lotta people coming from out of town from the villages to do their shopping and the staff seemed to be doing a good job of keeping up with the chaos. Kudos to the manager for good staffing. Went several times when I was in AK and never had to wait in the crazy-ass long lines like I do in Jerz, And bonus, this Walmart has a well stocked and inexpensive liquor store for your holiday celebrating. I also LOVED that fact that they had two aisles of cheesy Alaska souveniers... it was way better than going down to the Avenue and getting raped on over-priced t-shirts and what not. I also loved that they had school spirit t-shirts and sweatshirts for the local schools. I embarassed to admit but, I heart this Walmart. *blush* read more

Standard Walmart in Alaska. We came here looking for cheap Alaskan tchotchkes, and boy did we find them. They have an entire section of souvenirs including hats, t shirts, packaged ulu knives, keychains, etc. Good place to go to if you want to stock up and are looking for quantity, not quality. As to be expected, these are all mass produced, made in China items. Not worth the trip unless you need to do a quick stop for toiletries, sundries, etc. or need to buy a boatload worth of cheap souvenirs. read more

I tried shopping at this Walmart just to see if it the "vibe" had changed and nope.. After a few attempts It's the same. The line to check out took forever and the person at the register looked as if they were on hour 13 with no lunch break. It seems as if they still treat their employees like doo doo butter.. No thanks... OMG. What a mad house this place was on Black Friday. The wife and I were out for fun to look at all of the people in lines around town in the 15F weather. We drove by best buy and then to said "lets check out the line at Wally World". So we drove around back and they were already open.. There must have been 3000 people in this store and it was a mad house. People were fighting over 2$ towels, tearing the display a new ass. When using self checkout the machine had an error and didn't produce the change. The self checkout attendant had no idea what was going on and referred me to the self checkout which her and I both were currently standing in. I then went to customer service and waited 20 minutes for someone to "check the footage" very unapologetic staff but hey that's Walmart for ya! read more

Very fast service for in store pick up during the quarantine time. I checked in on the mobile app to let them know I was on the way. This would be my 2nd time doing a pick up. Just an FYI, don't follow what the app tells you after you place your order about it going to be ready by 8pm if ordered before 3pm. Follow by the email that they send you to really let you know your order is ready. I like that they put tape on the floor to remind everyone how far to keep for social distancing. Employees are wearing masks and no one here is staring or judging me because I'm Asian. After their renovation during winter, their aisles seem to be more crammed where one cart can pass through at a time. I'm not a fan of that but I enjoy their options and a clean store. Big plus for their grocery section always being stocked and fresher than Freddy's sometimes. read more

During the Covid era. I had received a gift card to buy groceries. 200.00 dollars, and I went to to our on-line site, and placed a grocery order to be picked up. I found out that you can not get groceries ordered on-line with a gift card. I called and I was told that they do not let order go through for groceries, but can order other items. I don't need other items. Why can't I purchase food products with my gift card. This is poor service. I could go in to the store and use it, but then I would be at risk to catch Covid. Oh my god! This store took my smile away the other day. I go in to return a few items that I did not have the receipt for, which hasn't really bothered me since the store usually gives me a gift card in lieu of cash or back to CC. Not a big deal. I put my stuff on the counter after waiting a long time in line because, while there are the many aisle walkers and stockers, this store cannot adequately staff check out or service counter people. The first thing the lady asks in very broken English is "Where sticker?" I assumed receipt so I start to say I don't have one. Not what she wanted to hear as she rifles through the items in the bag. Uh... Then she says manager. Okay, must be about the missing receipt. Nope. Apparently, there is supposed to be a guy giving out stickers on returns at the front door, which I have had happen before, but at this particular time there wasn't anyone at the door. Manager asks about stickers, with slightly better handle of English words strung together to form a sentence, and then walks off. She comes back and says that the sticker guy was yelling after me, but I didn't hear him. I was like, well I guess he should have come after me then since I didn't see or hear him. I'm starting to get a little annoyed at this point. Then one of the items didn't ring up even though it had a tag. Apparently, when it's not in the system you must have a receipt because the tag that says Walmart is now null and void. Ugh, okay whatever. Almost done. No! Come to fine out there is a limit of items you can return without a receipt, which is 3. How many did I have? 4 (after the null and void tag). When I come to walmart I don't high roll, so I'm not out more than $20 with the 2 items, but it was a really annoying exchange. Even more annoying with having to explain to two people, with limited English skills, about not having a receipt or that I got past sticker guy without a sticker. To top it off, when I gave them my ID for the returns return lady used her limited english skills to say it wasn't my picture or my ID. Thankfully manager disagreed with that when she saw me start to swell to the size of hulk proportions of unsaid fury and I deflated back to my normal non-monster size self. So, I walked out with evil thoughts about Walmart as a whole, as well as that Anchorage Walmart should really hire people with a better handle on the English language, especially if the given job is direct relations to the consumer. I think the entrance is a doorway to the twilight zone. Customers are transported to Annoyingland where no one can help you or communicate with you, and you are forced to wander back out the exit to reality with a slightly less good day than when you entered. read more

I can't stand ANY Walmart I've ever been in!!! They're way too crowded, they hire people who can't speak a lick of english. You ask for Shampoo and their employee who speaks Korean as a first language sends you to the SHOE DEPARTMENT! Their clothing and shoes rip, tear or fall apart within months. Their food is usually walmart brand or you can't find things you'd look for at other stores. The only thing I'd ever buy from Walmart is movies, video games, ammo, fishing supplies, toiletries, paper goods...and cake from their bakery. Their only saving grace for me. They're the only ones in town now (I think) that makes cake with whipped frosting! HOORAY! read more

I've been to Wally Worlds throughout the US, and this was one of the nicer ones I've been in. I just had to grab a quick Blu-ray and bag of chips for my ladies night in, and I was in and out in 4 minutes. The checker was also acting as a greeter, but he ran to our checkstand as soon as he saw us. I was going to get a 2 liter bottle of 72-cent Diet Sam's Cola, but in Anchorage it costs $1.12, Such a rip off. I tried to return some food items that a member of my family has become allergic to, the lady at the return department couldn't figure out how to do a return with your new savings catcher app so she called another employee, who messed with it for awhile before admitting she didn't know how to do it either, this went on for four more employees. Once they figured it out and completed the return for the soda they stated that they couldn't do the rest of our returns because I couldn't find the darn receipt in the phone; I have over 50 receipts showing that I spend well over 150-200$ a WEEK at this store. I'm so mad right now. Your stupid app caused nothing but a really bad experience and a complete waste of my time. I guess that's what you get when you shop Walmart. GREAT CAMPING SPOT! There is even wild animals roaming about that, if you're careful enough, you can get pictures of. Some of the wild animals reek of beer and have fat drooping off their electric wheelchair - but do not fret! Many are toothless and can't find a safe enough spot to set down their Mcdonald's to attack. Bathrooms don't have showers - take it as an opportunity to blend in with the scenery! read more

I'm a genuine, bona fide, full-blown night owl. My most active hours are when normal people are sawing logs. This is the only SuperWalmart in the whole city that stays open 24/7. That is its best selling feature as far as I'm concerned because you can show up at any time and never worry about them booting yer ass out. As far as Walmarts go, I do notice this one tends to run out of stuff faster the one on Benson. I remember coming here and looking for one particular item only to find out they had run out of but I wound up finding it at the other store. I think this Walmart is bigger and the parking lot is a good size. I'm not sure if they've instituted the same "we're gonna check your receipt before you even THINK of walking out that door:" policy the other Walmart uses. The layout of this store is more normal also than the layout of the other one. Compared to the Walmarts in the lower 48 (WA to be exact) price per item runs about $.25-$1.00 more per item, so the differential is less acute here than it is at say...Fred Meyer. I'd come here a lot more if it were closer, but driving with a freaking big ol' honkin' walking boot is no picnic so I keep it as limited as I can to businesses closer to our house. read more

I shopped online and found a set of dishes that I liked . the website said that there were two in stock. I tried placing a pickup order - then changed my mind and cancelled the order. I decided to just go to the store and pick it up myself. when I got there there was only one set, I went to customer service to see if they had pulled my order (that I had cancelled) and they had not pulled it so I thanked him very much. I bought my one set of dishes and I left about 15 minutes later the store manager called me and stated that they were unloading a truck and he recognized the set of dishes that I had liked and would I like him to put them behind the counter to save them for me I said yes please and when I showed up there were two sets one green one red and that's because she said he couldn't quite remember which color you want it so I have to thank you you went above and beyond read more

We use this pharmacy as it is close to our house. Other than that, I'd simply avoid it. Called in for a refill and spent time on the phone reviewing everything in terms of coverage, time, etc. I get there after waiting until the end of the day only to have them tell me it can't be filled. Bad, bad customer service when I was returning a Halloween outfit that was too small for my kid. I had first bought the 7/8 size Army Ranger outfit but realized later how it needs it to fit over clothes while outside trick-or-treating. So we stopped in at the Midtown location on the way to Halloween events downtown. I brought the size 7/8 outfit package in to exchange it - but after seeing a line of at least 25+ people at the customer service/returns area...we went straight over to get the bigger sized Army outfit (size 10/12) which fit just right for my kiddo. Threw the other one in the truck for next trip to Walmart (the South Anch. store, where I originally bought the first outfit). NOT SO EASY. 11/01/10: The employees and the younger male manager (dark haired, short guy) - they absolutely would NOT return my item, or even do a silly $7.00 credit/exchange (I WAS BUYING A COMFORTER SET THAT SAME DAY AT WALMART, SPENDING OVER $75 DOLLARS just on bedding). They were that petty to make me keep the smaller size BRAND NEW, NEVER OPENED halloween costume. All because it was PAST Halloween (by a freakin' day! c'mon!). They kept saying things like "well, you could have JUST bought it..." "we don't know that...". WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOT LOSERS. LIKE I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH ALL THAT FOR $7.00 WITH MY KID RIGHT THERE. Don't trust Walmart. It's not worth the hassle; I will spend a few bucks more ANYTIME at Freddy's or somewhere else for the same things I'd get at Walmart, but way better QUALITY (the clothes wear out instantly) and HASSLE-FREE return/exchange policy. Freddie's can look up your purchases too, so they can tell right off the bat if you spend a lot of money there. They don't make up weird scenarios and in ways, almost accuse their customers of 'dishonesty'. You'll never see any of my business again Walmart. How petty. ***NOTE/UPDATE: Called Walmart today (I still felt jipped from them not returning the outfit) and spoke to assistant mgr. Chip.
