Three full aisles of Alaska merch! Went to both Anchorage Costcos first and struck out. The employees are SO rude here. They are obviously very unhappy. I honestly should have written a review months ago (like last summer) I just had another bad encounter but I already know this review will be long talking about the previous problem I'd had. (Will try to make a 2nd review) because I encountered a super rude guy in pick up while working for DoorDash. It was my 1st time picking up at Walmart for Grocery Pickup via DoorDash so I didn't go to the correct area and I was chastised for going to the wrong place/area & then because I was waiting for so long for an employee to assist me. By the time, he came to help I'd been waiting over 10 min. (Long story short he read the app wrong and accused me of being too late (I was not, I wasn't the 1st person assigned this order) and he had a total attitude and I was mortified by him yelling at me and basically calling me stupid for my mistake and I was damn near in tears (maybe he read me wrong) so then he proceeded to cancel the entire order on me and gaslight me, like I had the attitude. I'd gotten up early and accepted this reservation order and drove across town and was on time only to be devastated due to the my 1st cancellation ever . (1st time and only ever that I had an order cancelled especially under these untrue pretenses. I was actually told by customer service to go to that door and then after being yelled at by said employee, I then went back to customer service to inform to them of how I'd been treated only to have this guy come back up to me and yell at me some more. You often hear about a supply chain shortage of goods in Alaska, but I have not seen that problem here. This location always has my every day needs, or a very close substitute. I was at the midtown Walmart today with my staff and students when a man named Joe stood in line with us and waited for my students to scan all of their lunch items. Once they were done, he informed us that he wanted to pay for our purchase. I didn't catch his title, but he was in management. My staff and I thanked him profusely as we were thinking we were taking too long and were in his way from making his purchase. Adding a star because stuff is cheap. Probably the cheapest anything you need in town. Can't quite say it's the best quality items in general, but if you need toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, random anything- they have a variety and it's bottom price. Adding a star because the cashier I personally dealt with was nice to me. Probably only because I was dressed nice. With that being said- you can come here without a shower for a couple days without brushing your teeth or hair and you'd fit right in. Rolled around in garbage? No problem. Leave your valuables at home! Park where you don't want your car scratched. Don't bring the kids. I came here pregnant for emergency essentials and was stuck inside when trying to leave because there was a bum fight in the exit. I came here last night and had to walk the long way around several people getting picked up by community patrol service. They started getting attacked. So sad. read more

Just like Denny's, you don't go to this Walmart. You end up here. First of all, this intersection (A St and Benson Blvd) is one of the worst places in town because it's two one-way roads. Getting in and out of the parking lot is like going through a maze. But that's the least of this one's problems. Inside is your typical Walmart. Cheap stuff, subpar cleanliness at best, overworked and underpaid employees. Outside are more chronically inebriated people and police cars than your average Walmart. I've seen this location reported in the crime section of the newspaper at least three times in the past year. I'm not even going to recommend this place for getting souvenirs, no matter how cheap they are. I feel sorry for the tourists who come here on their first trip to Alaska and see the worst Anchorage has to offer. If you really want to shop at Walmart, go to the east one on DeBarr near Muldoon or the south one of Old Seward near Dimond. Or just go to the Fred Meyer on Northern Lights. Your chance of getting shot or mugged is much lower at those places. read more

She told me THEY CANT TAKE BACK FOOD PAST 72 HRS ... then I told her I NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM with bringing back food, clothes etc. I 'had my receipt' and as long as I've had it IVE BEEN FINE. anyways, I asked John to confirm that and she stomped off with POOR ATTITUDE - she went to confirm with managers and when she walked away she was STILL MUMBLING. Ah.....the midtown Walmart..... ground zero for everything that can go wrong with a shopping experience. This Walmart location is located off of A St. and Benson Blvd across from the Barnes & Noble and next to Pizza Hut. This Walmart is by far the worst of the three locations here in Anchorage. In the two years I've been here since returning in 2014 for school, I have seen regular visits by the police and the Community Service Patrol van, various individuals making a public spectacle of themselves by the front area over by the self checkout registers and inebriates passed out on the outer edges of the parking lot. This place is just as bad as the Town Square Park in the downtown area. (I pity the tourists who have no idea how bad this place can be as they come in with bright wide-eyed wonder at the thought of a Super Walmart in AK.) The only saving grace I can give this place was the awesome deals I found in the Bed and Bath area as well as in the Electronics Department at the back. I reluctantly decided to come down here since I was in the area and too tired to deal with the rush-hour traffic. It is so easy to give this place one-star with all the issues that Walmart has never taken action on as well as the Municipality of Anchorage with the outlying areas of the sidewalks and bus stops. However, the purpose of this visit is not to dwell on the negative so much as focusing on the positive with the purchases I made which earned this place a very tentative two stars rather than one. The great deals I found were a three-piece set for the bed which included a fitted sheet, a spreader sheet, and a pillowcase for only $5.00. This was an awesome deal and the sale applied to all bed sizes at the same price. The other great finds I came across were TV shows on DVD (my usual thing to look for when shopping at either Target or Walmart). I found shows like Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck Seasons 1 and 2 as well as the first few seasons of NCIS with Mark Harmon at only $10.00 apiece! This unfortunately is not good enough for me to come back here on a regular basis. Both Walmart and the Municipality of Anchorage have a serious problem on their hands with this place and it needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. For a town that prides itself on the city's image and thriving tourism industry, the residents that live in this area will continue to suffer and visitors that come here for the first time for that first impression will realize it is not worth coming back to this town once they leave. read more

One star because there is no option for zero. Cashier double billed us in error. We noticed it on the receipt when we got home. Called the store (Walmart on A St.) and nobody answered. Tried to call again the next day and still NOBODY answered. Tried another Walmart store in the area (Dimond) thinking maybe they could connect us. Nobody answered there either. Called Walmart corporate. They connected me to the wrong department, someone who could only work with online orders, not in-store orders. Tried one last time and was told I have to go back to the store physically and ask the store manager for consideration. Went in to pick up a few things and saw a blonde employee name Robert yelling at an African American who had already paid for the items Robert claimed he stole. On my next visit, same guy was yelling at another Hispanic customer about refusing to sell alcohol even though she had ID? I don't think I'll be going back here again. Seems like only Caucasians and Alaska Natives are welcome and treated with respect. I made the mistake of buying souvenirs in other locations, and found the SAME item for less here! I even ran into the local souvenir vendor stocking shelves. She said I should always check out the local Walmart first for souvenirs because some Walmarts have everything you would want. I feel so deliciously trashy being the first to review a Walmart. Pretty close to downtown Anchorage, this location is on the busy A St and Benson intersection. They have a pharmacy, but this is NOT a super Walmart location (ie, no deli & grocery store). It's rather large and pretty much holds what you'd expect at any Walmart in anytown, USA. Cabs hang out in droves in front of the store, handy if you need them. There is a restaurant in the store, and unfortunately, it's McDonalds. Only thing I don't like is there are some unsavory types who come here, but it's not anything to get into a twist about. Still a cheap place for everyday goods. Also, I've been noticing that they frequently have fewer cash registers open than what's good to have normal traffic. read more

The lady who helped me gets five stars. I was here this morning getting stuff I can get good prices on; toilet paper, body wash, laundry soap, hand soap. ..I know I was out of everything. As usual had my weekend job with me (6 year old great niece). Her birthday is in a couple of weeks AND her baby bike is broken. We went and looked at cheap bikes. I don't know how long cheap bikes last but I am hoping at least for an Alaska suummer (may it be long in 2016) Back to the bikes...an employee actually came up and asked to help me. In Walmart! Really! Honest! I have a witness. She was a wonderful lady. She knew what size was needed and showed the different options. We wheeled out a bike, a helmet and the aforementioned needed items. I may be sorry I went cheap on the bike but for now I am very pleased with my purchase and the help I received. AND no indigent people accosted me in the parking lot. They had plenty of Mountain Dew and Three Wolf moon shirts in Stock! However, the motorized shopping carts were all dead. :^( I heard a rumor that they were getting the newly released Six Wolf Moon shirt, I went immediately to the return counter. The lady working there definitely missed the memo about the automatic MVP/VIP status of the fellow Moon shirt people. She was rude (probably because she saw me wearing my Indian head dress wolf shirt and was jelious). Well anyhow, she was painfully slow, the line was super long (no VIP line for the wolf shirt people), a guy in line choked on his coffee (I think he was baffled I was returning my wolf moon shit and choked). Well, she stops servicing the curstomers, goes in back, slowly gets a mop and proceeds to mop up coughed up coffee. I don't think she knew that wolf shirts give their wearers added senses and alertness and no one was in danger while the wolf shirt was nearby. 30 minutes later I give her my returned shirt and her mood changed before my eyes as she grabbed the magical wolf moon shirt.... I've had a few bad experiences here already because unbeknownst to me, they opted to adopt the Costco policy of checking your bloody receipt before you're allowed to leave the store. I've now lost my receipts before the door on two occasions. The first time was due to my haphazardly placing it in one of the bags or in the catcacombs of my purse (only women understand this lol) and being totally embarrassed by being unable to find the damn thing so the dude could check me out. Pissed me off because I had to stand there on my bad leg convincing the guy to please let me the fuck out and do I LOOK like a damn thief?? I promised to learn my lesson for the future and always have my receipt out upon exit. Then it happened AGAIN because the damn receipt fell into a crevice and while I thought it was right where I had placed it, it wasn't. So I had to go through the rigamaroll one more damn time. I asked the manager at some point exactly WHEN did they institute this policy and why? Apparently there are a lot of shady characters that frequent this one (no shit, it's Walmart so duuuuuh!) and they were having an issue with theft. My suggestion: PUT UP A DAMN SIGN WHERE PEOPLE CAN READ IT telling them to have their receipts out so nobody has to go through the embarrassment I did lol. As far as the inside goes, it's like any other Walmart, although I don't like the layout of the health and beauty section at all. Totally confusing. Selection is typical for Walmart so no issues there and though this is a super Walmart, don't expect it to be open 24/7. They close at midnight. Only one Walmart in this whole city stays open all night and that's the one off Old Seward Highway. read more

Do not eat at McDonalds here at Walmart at A Street. Inside this restaurant is filthy, filthy, filthy. There is half eaten french fries and dirty napkins on the floor, rude staff, bad food. etc They are not responsible for fresh buns here on the go. One time my father got food poisoning from eating a cheeseburger and the bun got mold in it, and yes don't eat here because it's disgusting. Oh, and and another thing, it can usually be a guilty pleasure by eating this fast-food garbage, well sort of. I find this walmart location to be quite nice on the outside. The store itself feels a bit crammed though and not as big as walmart usually tends to be. The staff was pretty nonchalant too. While they did have some craft items that I haven't seen at the other locations, I doubt I'll come back here unless I really need to and find myself in this part of town. read more

Yesterday I had the only negative experience ever at Walmart. I bought a car battery back in Feb 2018 and it went bad after 8 months. I took it back with my receipt, which as everybody knows, could no longer be read, but the lady very pleasantly told me to get another one. I was very pleased and the lady assured me that my Warranty started over as of that day for 1 year full replacement just like the first one. Well, as it turned out, the 2nd one failed after 9 months so back I went to Walmart. Boy was that an experience. I decided to get a larger, more expensive one this time, so I did my shopping for a few things first and picked a battery. I then went to Customer service, stood in line for about 20 minutes, and was then told to take the battery to automotive for all of the transaction. I explained it all to several people, some were Managers, to no avail. They said that my reciept, even though it could hardly be read, was no good because my battery, even though I bought it in Nov 2018, had a 2017 little round circle sticker on it. They scanned the new battery and I told them I was going to exchange it and would gladly pay the difference in price, around $30 or so. The Manager was very nice on the surface but it was quite obvious that she did not want to be there dealing with this problem, AT ALL. Even others around me were commenting to each other, quite loudly, that they should accommodate my situation, with all things considered. I was humiliated, as I felt they were saying I was lying, and I don't appreciate it at all. I'm 65 years old and have been an avid, loyal, even loving customer of Walmart since as long as I can remember but, I've truly been taken back by this ordeal. I don't know if anybody ever phisically reads, or even cares about these reviews, but I sure hope so, because even though you won't even miss my, " small amount spent over time compared to your massive size", if others read this, and even more, if they physically see it like yesterday, it will certainly have an impact and take a toll over time. Wasted too much time here during our vacation... their PORTRAIT STUDIO sucks! First we showed up for our appointment and the employee (supposedly the studio manager) made us wait several minutes to set up. Then she directed us how to pose and quickly snapped pictures. Then she told us to come back after 30 minutes, but by then she was not yet done and kept telling us to come back. Eventually she showed us the pictures on-screen (not much editing and cropping was visible). We ordered some prints, shall we say OVERPRICED? We transacted the payment and she told us to come back by Friday (3 days later) UNLESS she gave us a call. We did not get a call so here we come on Friday morning. This same lady opens a drawer while snidely saying "Did I call you?" Her tone was extremely rude. What a horrible attitude! We told her she said come Friday IF we didn't get a call. She opened a drawer, pretended to browse through envelopes and said to come back later that day because she didn't yet get the shipment and would then have to process it. We show up Friday afternoon and that lady is no longer working. We never received a call. The new employee kept saying sorry and called up the district manager (someone in Washington state) who listened to our complaint and made promises for photo credits. Empty-handed, we left and kept waiting... another week... and then it was time to leave Alaska and head home! 2 weeks later... our relative finally got to pick up the prints . We found that the prints and files on the CD were horribly edited-- my brother's head was even cut off partially!! At this point, we have not received any of the promised credits. Ultimately we regret even showing up to Walmart and wish we could take back this whole experience. What a waste of money, time, and energy... especially on our vacation!
