Sheepishly I explained the discount I expected. He acknowledged my concern and said that actually I needed to buy 3 cases and I would get 3 cases free. Since I had 3 cases in my cart, he took me back to the shelf to collect 3 more cases and show me the discount tag again. He explained that I needed to have all 6 cases scanned so that the discount would be applied. Since I had already made my purchase, he allowed me to take the 3 extra cases and he wrote on my receipt that I was due a refund of a specific amount and that he authorized the refund. Customer service was closed because it was late at night. He said I could return with my receipt to collect the amount I overpaid. Wow! So many things were remarkable about this interaction. First, I was actually mistaken about the discount. It was different than I had expected, but still a better deal than I realized. Second, the staff member approached me and offered to help me. Third, he actually worked hard to make the transaction happen while I was there. Most store associates would not have done any of the above. That one interaction won me over as an Albertsons customer. Anytime I'm in Surprise, AZ, I will definitely do my shopping at that location.
