This review is for the eye doctors in the Walmart Vision Center as independent contractors in the space. Both Dr Fickes (husband and wife team) are wonderful. Prices for exams are reasonable too. I have gone to many who have tried to dial in my RX and have failed, but these two both have done a great job at getting me hooked up with contact lenses and glasses. I've had RK surgery on both eyes, making my eyes astigmatic and ever-changing. I truly appreciate both Eva and Tom's efforts to give me the best possible vision under unusual circumstances. They are honest and work hard to make things right. I had one issue where I had to return after a RX was issued and didn't seem quite right, they worked me in quickly and retested my eyes. I will always come back to them as they are the best at what they do! I can take their RXs anywhere else to get them filled and do not have to purchase at the Walmart Vision Center. read more

My glasses broke last Sunday night, while I was taking them off for the night. Monday, they were open so I decided I'd better stop by and see about replacing them; I knew I bought a 2yr warranty. The ladies inside were helpful. I was told my 2 year warranty for my glasses ended on the previous day (Sunday)! She said she would check w/ her boss, who was out for the day if they would cover them or at least offer a discount, no insurance was used. In the end, my lenses wouldn't work in the newer pair of frames of the same brand, so I ended up w/ a more expensive frame, that I liked. Overall this was a fair experience, as I can't give 5 stars because there was no grace on the warranty & not even a small discount was granted on the frames. I've bought many pairs of glasses over the years from this location. I do appreciate that they were helpful, unfortunately they don't offer the great value they once did. read more

Beware, I spent over $600 & the bifocals never lined up & I don't want to read with just one eye ! & they would not fix them and make them right. give crater Lake Hwy a miss. I got a great pair by direct on the Internet. They keep making them until they're right and only cost you a third of what these jokers are getting. read more

Used this vision center 2 times because it was covered by Medicare insurance. Both times eye exams were done professionally. Unfortunately the eye glass store was a little different story. Clerks tried to handle more than one customer at a time, and left us sitting unattended for quite a while both times we were there. We were told we needed to pay for an insurance policy should we need repairs in the future. Never had to do that before. Ended up needing lenses replaced on 1st pair of glasses after a few months because they lost their clarity. No problem, 2 weeks later new glasses arrived. Then on the 2nd visit I bought new glasses. With these the lenses popped out on a few different occasions. Young lady at counter was very nice, and fixed each time. Last week I returned to Walmart because one of the paddles broke on the last glasses I bought there. My warranty had expired so the gal said she could not fix them, and I would need to have a new exam, and order new glasses. No attempt to help. The quality of their glasses had become an issue. We decided to go back to Costco vision center even without Medicare insurance coverage, because in 30 years we never had problems with their glasses, or customer service. read more

the doctor I seen seemed to be senile or some thing keep repeating the exam an talking about schooling an thing not about my eyes he wrote me two things for vitamins twice he took an hour for full examine he dident notice the lens was dirty after I repeatedly said some thing was wrong with the devise being so blurry due to the dirty lend he repeated the eye exam multiple times over pausing to talk about things that had nothing to do with eyes like I said it took 1 hour with him doing this .you may want to go some were else for a more coherent doctor. read more

I stopped into the Walmart Vision Center today to purchase Sun Glasses. I selected a pair for $40 and when I went to the register to pay I was informed they needed some information to set up a "profile" on me. I asked why they required my personal information to make a $40 cash sale of an uncontrolled product and was informed they would NOT make the sale w/o collecting my personal information and setting up a profile in their system. Needless to say, I left the Vision Center w/o making a purchase. It speaks very poorly and is of great of concern to me when a business is more interested in collecting my personal data than making a simple $40 sale as this business demonstrated today by refusing to sell me the Sun Glasses. read more

This is the second time my husband and myself have gone to Fickes Optometry in the Walmart Center in Grants Pass. The Tech. Cameron is friendly, processional, quick and knowledgeable. I had an appointment with Dr. Tom Fickes this morning. It was one of the best and most comprehensive eye exams I've ever had. He is thorough, unhurried, and a consummate professional. The exam facilities are great, and I was impressed with the way the staff cleaned the equipment before use. I've had appointments in hospital optometry departments and they weren't as thorough. I bought glasses in the optical department that were reasonable in price and look good. The assistant who starts the exam is competent and friendly as well. Highly recommended. read more

So incredibly grateful! The doctor was so helpful with educating me on how to handle my dry eye issues! Now, after having this exam, I can honestly say I feel that I am more prepared to care better for my eyes! They even went as far as giving me trial eyedrops and jotting down some vitamins to help keep my eyes in great shape! I enjoyed my experience here and I don't ever plan on going elsewhere for my eye care needs! read more

Dr Fiske, Tom I think! Is really one of the best optometrists I've been to. He takes his time, looks at everything, is careful, thoughtful and as good as they get. Don't let the Walmart thing fool you, he's like a secret surprise. I'm glad I have him in my town. read more

The treatment that I received today makes me sick to my stomach. No, I don't always have time to pay attention to and respond to texts during the week especially with such short notice when I have WORK and KIDS that take first priority from 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM plus other appointments, etc...and the list goes on. Not to mention, I live in a rural area without great service. I specifically scheduled this appointment to fit my schedule and now I am absolutely out of luck. Texting for confirmation at 8:19 PM is absolutely inappropriate. The communication that I received also said please cancel within 24 hours, which is reasonable, however additional confirmation required is innapropriate and was not communicated in a reasonable or timely manner. I obviously made the appointment to fit my schedule, which should certainly be confirmation. This situation should be unbelievable, but such is the absolutely terrible healthcare system in this country that you proved yet again. Thanks for the absolutely unnecessary and incredible inconvenience and the awful treatment that I will now have to deal with on top of everything else as an actual productive citizen, as opposed to most people you deal with, apparently. Every person I spoke to at your facility was absolutely arrogant and incredibly ignorant to the challenges of an incredibly hard-working and busy working parent, who also lives in a rural area. The front desk receptionist laughed about the situation and the technician was incredibly condescending and even dishonest about his communication. My Favorite Optometrist is Eva Fickes at Walmart Grants Pass. I have been in the Rogue Valley for a long time, and I have seen plenty of optometrists. I haven't had one that I love for so long, that I went out of the Valley. It's a 37 mile drive one way, but I only do it twice a year. It's a pretty drive. Mrs. Eva Fickes pays total attention to detail. And I'm a hard one, because I never can really tell if "this one is better, or that one." lol So she goes back and forth and as much as it takes. She has a great sense of humor, and is very professional. The last glasses I got from her three years ago are the ones being replaced now. They really lasted. The Staff in the vision center is very customer oriented and polite. Last, I buy the $9 frames. They look good on me, so I keep purchasing a new pair. read more

I am sick of businesses sending you a come on coupon and not being able to use it because of restrictions. Most everyone has some type of vision Insurance and you cannot use their coupons if you have Insurance. Even though they would get the same amount of money whether you use insurance or pay all out of pocket they rip you off if you have Insurance for part of the payment. If the glasses cost $300 and Insurance pays $150 then you pay $150 out of pocket. They get $300. If you dont have Insurance then you pay $300 and they get $300. But you can only use a coupon if you dont use your Insurance which will pay more than the coupon so that means you can NEVER use one of their coupons they keep sending to me. I asked them today to stop sending it. I will be using a different place to buy my glasses as they were rude and abruptly hung up on me when I questioned their reasoning. I will go to a place where they are a little nicer and dont try and trick me to come in with their coupons. Be sure and look at the tiny print on any coupon you get especially from Walmart companies. read more

DO NOT SEE THE OPTOMETRIST HERE!! Highly recommend you do not go to Dr. Fiske for your eyes. I saw him once before, and he remembered that I have a habit of leaving my contacts in. The first thing he did was ask me if was going to follow his plan and take my contacts out after 10 hours or not. I told him not likely because I have very long and busy days. He then told me he could do a glasses exam, so I said, no I won't wear my glasses because I hate them, I want to wear contacts like I have since I was a teenager. I was not rude, I was just firm because he was pushing it and being rude. He proceeded to tell me that if I couldn't promise him I would follow his contact schedule that I could get out of his office and find a new doctor. He then proceeded to literally (and EXTREMELY rudely) eject me from his office & refused to treat me...IN FRONT OF MY FOUR YEAR OLD. Really? Because I refused to lie and say I would promise to take my contacts out every 10 hours!? What a power trip!!! How is that even any of his business what I do in my personal life? In the first exam he also chose to hand out Christian and anti-mormon literature. This man should NOT be treating ANYBODY! read more
