Tiffany gave us good service. My seafood bisque was very tasty but my country fried steak was quite bland.

I was in Carlisle for business and saw this Diner on the hotel list of places to eat. Their breakfast and lunch is great. The place is packed on for lunch on Sunday's with a wait. The other days of the week I was able to get seated immediately. They serve Pepsi products which I'm not fond of, but surprisingly they had really good sweet tea. Like I said before, the food is really good with generous portions. Definitely recommend while in Carlisle. read more

Walnut bottom Diner wAs so much better than a local diner but all the diners were local. When traveling that's always a good sign. Service was fast and friendly. The food was tasty and hot. Loved the chicken cordon blue panini. read more

I am SUPER suspicious about the number of five-star reviews here. The Walnut Bottom is a run-of-the-mill, bland diner. The omelets are basic, the potatoes are flavorless, the corned beef hash is right out of the can. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and it was not bad, not especially good. Just underseasoned chicken salad on a plain wrap with watery lettuce. Nothing is terrible, there's just no good reason to go here unless you're hungry and are passing by. read more

Wonderful breakfast and great service. Had veggie omelet, hashbrowns and biscuit. Coffee strong and good. Waitress offered some coffee to go as a parting gift. Husband had huge special which included eggs, hashbrowns, a biscuit plus one pancake and a piece ofFrench toast. Pancake was perfect. Not a bit gummy as they often are. We were delighted to find Walnut Bottom Diner as we traveled through the area from NC. Attentive service, delicious food, generous portions, and very reasonable prices. Sadly we were too full to try any of the tempting desserts. I was particularly happy to find a turkey stuffing similar to one made by my MIL's PA family, a wonderful chicken-rice soup, and Harvard beets. Such a respite after a harrowing day on I-81. I was shocked to see a nun and a cat walking around seating people until I realized it was 10/31. My waitress, the cat, asked if I saw the special. When I responded, "No" she said it was "Milk". What a fun way to start the day especially after driving for 3 hours with another 3 to go. Coffee was good and the food came out really quickly despite the diner being packed. I asked for my hash browns to be crispy. I guess charred black is a type of crispy. The scrapple here is the worst I have ever tasted. I only go there because my wife likes one of the items they serve for breakfast. Many better places in Carlisle for breakfast. read more

Really great service, fast, and overall a good choice for a random lunch stop.

Got a cup of chili and a chicken gyro... cost me eleven bucks plus tip. If I could say anything the gyro was mostly chicken. Wish it had more cucumber onion and lettuce. Got some extra tatziki sauce and they gave me a huge dish of it. Great service!!!!! Definitely recommend. UPDATE: I go here all the time now. I've been to this diner several times, usually on Sundays after attending Church. It's a great place to eat breakfast or to enjoy one of the selections from the lunch menu. The food is great, and the place is clean. I would have given it 4 stars, if it had not been for one detail. The staff are polite and everyone is seated and served as quickly as possible. But, they need to develop a dress code for the girls who greet you at the front. This being a family diner, with many families coming directly from their church to the diner, I wouldn't expect to see a young woman wearing form fitting black leotards leading the way as she escorted families to their tables. The leotards, which would have been more at home in a popular fitness club. were worn multiple times, and a similar pair was worn by one pregnant waitress. The outfit of the greeting staff member left little to the imagination as each family and couple followed their young escort, jiggling her way to their table. Considering the family friendly atmosphere this was a very disappointing oversight on the part of the management of this otherwise enjoyable establishment. If this is being allowed as eye candy for the viewing pleasure of the male patrons, I think I'll stick to the desert menu. Walnut Bottom Diner could certainly use a little Bottom Coverage. read more

Been here twice now. Again busy both times. However this last time the staff was inattentive and once the check came (which we hadn't asks for) they were completely gone. We waited quiet some time to get anyone's attention to get a small box for a sandwich half and a few fries. I was a bit disappointed this visit. read more

I had the ham omelette with cheddar and it was good. My kids loved their Mickey pancakes. They also Have kids for the kids cups. The hashbrowns are good and not greasy. My husband had the sausage gravy and biscuits. He said that the heavy was milk based and needed more sausage to be a true sausage gravy. The biscuits were made flat, as opposed to a big fluffy biscuit split in half. He says he'd be back but try something else. The service was fast. The place is always busy, so you may have a wait. I would expect it on a car show weekend or Sunday. We will be back. read more

This was my first time here & anytime I'm passing through again I will try to make this my food stop when I want food that tastes like homemade. The chicken pot pie was the best I've had in many years. I'm not a huge fan of pepper cabbage, but the clerk at the hotel told me to try it. She was right. It was really good. For a Diner in the middle of the night it was pretty good. Granted we went there at about 2am but thats a huge plus. In the Carlisle area it's probably the best thing around at this time. So upon arriving we were greeted by a young man who was about high school age, very kind ... We had a young child with us they were very accommodating. When we were seated we were immediately joined by our waitress who decided to take our drink order. When we went to put our order in they were very patient.I decided to just go the breakfast route, their menu isn't over whelming but it is exceptionally large. Many choices and the prices believe it or not are very affordable. A 10 oz Porter house steak was 11 with eggs and such. Over all though just finished eating the food was mediocre I would expect nothing more or less for the pricing ... Our server seemed to be in a rush as if her shift was ending and she was waiting on us to leave she asked about desert before I was finished my eggs. We were regular customers, and it will probably be a long time before we return. The diner is under new management, and it shows. We had poor service from our waitress, who appeared to be new. Our food was brought out in stages. My omelet didn't have the cheese I requested, so was sent back. My mother-in-law didn't get her bacon with her eggs, and my husband's chopped steak came out with onions, which is not the norm for the breakfast chopped steak. He sent it back. The waitress came back with a plate of over easy eggs for my husband. That was it. No toast, no home fries, just eggs. So while we waited for the rest of his food, and for the items that needed to be corrected, his eggs sat there getting cold. When we finally received everything, my husband goes to dig in, and without even taking a bite says That's it! I'm done. A big black hair is laying on the edge of his eggs. Meanwhile, I'm fishing a piece of bone out of my mouth from my omelet.... we flag the owner down and tell her to take my husbands meal away and off the bill. She does apologize, but then we have to remind her to take it off the bill. Our waitress comes back and has the nerve to ask us what color was the hair that you found. My manager is blaming me. Sweetheart, it wasn't red like your hair, but that doesn't mean you made this experience any better. We will drive a little further to Silver Spring diner from now on. read more

Cheap prices and good food. Carlisle needed a diner especially one that takes credit card. You know who you are. My only downfall is that I found a hair in my food. Now all they need is hair nets for the cooks. This is not a deal breaker, the prices and food are decent. Great for the kids and groups. read more

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed our first time here. Food was good, waitress was new and did a great job.

A friend and I were having breakfast at this restaurant when she found a hair in her potatoes. She brushed it off the edge and continued eating until she found a six inch black hair in the middle of her potatoes. She pulled it out and showed our waitress who asked if she wanted a replacement meal and took the plate to show the manager. My friend declined and asked to have her meal taken off the bill. The manager said she wouldn't take the breakfast off the bill. We asked to speak with the manager who told our waitress she was sorry for the inconvenience but she was not removing the charge and she too busy to speak with us. Another man who was seating patrons was then asked to speak with us and after checking again with the manager agreed to remove $2 off the bill. Big deal right? At the register the $2 was not removed until I questioned my credit card receipt. The card was rerun with the $2 off. The voided receipt was not returned to me because it was thrown in the trash. I asked for the receipt and they refused it. (I will be checking my statement). We tipped our waitress more than the bill because we held up her table and she was so nice. We won't go there again and my friend may end up calling the department of health. read more

Waitress was friendly. Place was basically empty at 4 am. Food was ok, but not worth what I paid. Alpine omelette, 1 piece of french toast, and coffee $12.24. I understand the price of the omelette, considering it's mushrooms and swiss cheese. But 1 piece of french toast is $3.50, crazy. My omelette came with home fries and toast, which I didn't get. You'd think they'd give me the french toast for at least half price. I'm done. Last review of this place. I'll never go back. Reason for visiting this time: it was the only place open that was close to the hospital, where my wife is in labor. read more

Five stars for inexpensive yet good food. The food is not high-end but it is served hot and fresh, and in sizable portions. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. The variety of the menu is almost overwhelming but a welcome situation for those moments you just want to eat out and cannot get everyone to agree on what they want. read more

Went by myself while in town for the Carlisle Chevrolet Nationals. The Diner is located right across the street from the DaysInn I was staying at (if you are staying here and present your key card you receive a 10% discount; I had such a great experience I felt they deserved every penny and didn't do this). I arrived approximately 7:00 PM on a Saturday night expecting a wait, and was seated immediately. The Diner has a surprisingly modern trend inside with nice booths, tables and chairs, seems like it was recently renovated. My waitress was very friendly and brought my water immediately. I ordered the breakfast special: two pancakes, hash browns, choice of meat, eggs and toast, for $9.00. Less than 10 minutes pass and my food is served. Food was all on par with any traditional diner. Waitress checked in on me every few minutes. I overheard her talking briefly to another server (seated next to the kitchen) saying she had been there since early in the AM and let me tell you I could not tell a bit, she was cheerful and nice and didn't skip a beat with her other tables either. I ended up having some blueberry pie after because I liked hanging out in the place so much. As someone who regularly comes to Carlisle a few times a year for car shows I'll certainly be returning to Walnut Bottom Diner. read more

Fast service, polite and efficient. Had a simple breakfast that arrived in minutes, tasted fine and was totally OK. Probably a great place to go with friends. I was on a business trip and hoped to get a little work done before moving to my appointment, but the loud chatter of other diners, most of whom seemed to be elderly retirees, and the rock music radio station made it hard to concentrate. I have no issues with their food or service. Their lunch and dinner crowd is average, and quite busy at times. Where it falls short for me, is breakfast on weekdays. They have a large number of local young people that gather for breakfast. They are loud and sometimes offensive. At some point management will need to decide if their patronage is a help or a hindrance. If this doesn't bother you, than I'm sure you will be just fine. My choice is to pass by, and go somewhere else, at least for breakfast on weekdays. read more

I have eaten there twice. It has always been very busy but the open floor plan and friendly service make this a pleasant dining experience. We got our food in quick time and it was excellent.
