First off let me say, staff gets five stars! I've been a couple of times now and they are so friendly and incredibly accommodating, they always make you feel welcome. Ambiance is that of a little diner/cafe, nothing too fancy but definitely a friendly vibe. I've had a couple of breakfast things and while I'm never blown away, the food is solid (except I found the gf pumpkin pancakes tangy and odd, but that's just me) and reasonably priced. Their coffee is great! Also very family friendly- they even have coloring sheets for the kiddos. I would recommend if you're looking for somewhere casual and super friendly! read more

very cute! enjoyed our time here. only about a 5 minute wait. was probably in and out in less than 45 minutes. food came out pretty which which was awesome for some hungry fellas. we got the mexican omelette which was about a 9/10. we got the potatoes and sourdough, only reason we dock off a point was because the potatoes were sort of cold but hotter on the inside. we also got the vegetarian omelette sub mushroom for spinach. it was extra 0.95 to sub a veggie. also got a side of gluten free chocolate chip pancakes which were amazing 10/10. the veggie omelette was about a 9/10. the veggies felt sort of uncooked in away but i still enjoyed it very much. lovely waitress and will be coming back! thanks for the awesome food also, found a cute heart in my food. read more

Just to preface this review - I don't think that our first visit was necessarily the most ideal situation, as we were just stopping in to grab something and head out to Viele for the morning, so I don't believe we got the full Walnut Cafe experience. Regardless, I'd have to say that my overall experience (aside from the sweet guy taking care of our to-go order) was just... meh. We waltzed in around 10:15 on a Saturday morning, and the place was pretty packed. Our hope was to just grab and go, so we weren't really interested in sitting down for the whole experience, which may be - in part - a reason why I've given a three star review. The young man at the front that greeted and helped us was awesome; he was very accommodating and very understanding of the fact that we were just there to grab something and be on our way. He pointed us toward the menus, and we took a seat in the waiting area to decide what we wanted. About thirty seconds later, boyfriend and I both decided on the breakfast burrito and an apple juice. While waiting for our food, I had the chance to drink in my surroundings. The dining area isn't gigantic, but it seems to be a pretty popular breakfast spot in Boulder. Between the time we walked in the door and the time we handed our menus back, the lobby was PACKED with people looking to dine in. The decor in the restaurant seems to be pretty hip, too; it's difficult to explain, but the atmosphere was clean and gave a somewhat hipster type vibe. Maybe I'm crazy, or just don't know what I'm talking about... either way, it's pretty cool. I also got the feeling that this place is definitely conscientious of the need for sustainability and sourcing ingredients ethically... it could partially be due to the fact that the place is in the heart of Boulder. Once we got our meals, the total for two drinks and two burritos came out to about $26 before tip. Initially, we both thought that was kind of a steep price for two to-go orders, but the boxes of food were stuffed, and honestly, everything is just getting to be a bit pricey in general, so we didn't really give it a second thought. Now on to the good part - the burritos. Our expectation was to get something wrapped in foil that we could take with us and easily eat in the car on our way out for the day... this was not the case. While I appreciate the effort that went into making our meals, eating a burrito with a fork and knife in a car is more than just a little difficult to do. Not only did it have a huge mess potential, the to-go containers were big and awkward on our laps. So, we decided to forego the plan to eat on our way, and wait until we could make some space for ourselves... smelling the goodness that was to come was a bit torturous while we were waiting to chow down. When we finally pulled up to our destination and were able to dig in, I'm sad to say that the burritos were a disappointment. The potatoes inside the tortilla were pretty bland, and the rest of the burrito itself was just okay; overall pretty flavorless, but palatable. It came with sour cream, black olives, lettuce and tomatoes, and black beans (or refried, if that's your fancy), but none of those ingredients were actually on the inside of the burrito, which was a bummer. It would have made it taste sooo much better!! The other thing to note is that it was smothered in cheese and salsa, which I personally feel was kind of a way to add flavor, but the amount of it just overpowered everything else, and actually made the tortilla pretty soggy, unfortunately. I'm sure, had we eaten in the restaurant, this wouldn't be an issue, but I digress. I ended up only eating the eggs out of the burrito, as that was really all I could stomach. Overall, I'm not completely turned off by this cafe, and would definitely give it another shot, but this experience wasn't all that great. It's unfortunate, too, because we were super hungry and super excited to try it. Maybe next time will be different. read more

I've always enjoyed Walnut Cafe over the years. These days, it's hard to decide we'll go grab late breakfast at 10:30 and it's packed. I am really happy for them business-wise but like so much in town, there's something sad about not having someplace where you can feel you're hanging with your neighbors. But that's me. Food was great, as usual today. We opted to sit inside as we prefer but this time we're sat at a really small 2-top adjacent to the side stand. Not a big deal except our server guy was largely absent. It's hard if he has a big station but I had to bother a different server just to get one little thing well-into our meal (honey). We never saw him until he dropped the check. Coffee cup empty the entire meal other than the initial cup of course ;^). I'm a patient guy but this was bit much and unfortunate. Still, I love the owners and the staff is generally so fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

I hate leaving bad reviews... so I'll start with the good: the service here was great, and it's a wonderful location with a beautiful view from the patio. The coffee was excellent and we appreciate a varied menu for different diets. 3 stars for all of this. Now, the bad... We ordered the Banana Walnut Belgian Waffle and the Boulder Scramble with a side of potatoes and beans. All plates were honestly a little on the bland side. Especially the Boulder Scramble... which we agreed was the worst on the table. So here's the thing: We are always in search of vegan breakfast due to a dairy and egg allergy, so I had high hopes for Walnut Cafe. Given our experience with seeking out vegan breakfast, I feel like there is a pretty consistent idea of what to expect from a "tofu scramble". I would describe the Boulder Scramble as more of a unique cubed tofu salad of some sort. Put another way: What if a restaurant called a plate "scrambled eggs" but it actually consisted of hard-boiled eggs served over salad... would that be a fair name for that plate? I think this just struck a major pet peeve of mine where restaurants claim to have vegan options which actually just amount to the salad menu. Anyway, naming aside, the Boulder Scramble was very bland. There's not really any sauce or flavoring for the tofu to absorb, so you're left with that raw tofu flavor. Further, we opted for the Daiya cheese (due to dairy allergy). This was simply lumped on top of everything, which... if you are familiar with the texture of Daiya you'll know it basically just clumps together and does not melt into your plate the same as dairy cheese. It would be much better had the cheese been more integrated into the plate. read more

Happy staff says volumes about how well the owners of this tiny diner treat them and it carries over to excellent customer service, delicious entrees and PIE to die for. What a quaint cafe to enjoy breakfast or brunch. The coffee shop is clean, the menu is varied, service is fast and the staff courteous. We ordered vegetarian egg omelet with the delicious blueberry cornbread and my boyfriend had a denver omelet with biscuit and blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were average but the corn bread was delicious and we enjoyed the Chai latte and caramel latte. We will be back when we return to Denver. read more

What a place! Friendly service and great food. I'm not a coffee drinker but that seems to be a hot item here. Lucky, the tea they offer is yummy. I suggest earl grey. Got the special quiche with side fruit and side banana bread. The quiche was delicious and cheesy! Fruit was a nice variety and I ended up having to take the banana bread to go (ate it while hiking). It also comes with green chili, but I didn't want that. It was really good and filling. We also had a side of French toast. The Boulder Latte was recommended to us, which I would recommend to others. This review is long over due. I think sometimes we take old regulars for granted. This place is always buzzing, which says a lot on its own. The walls are filled with local art work which is fun to look at and makes us smile. I am often reminded of the old tv show Cheers, as staff is so friendly and it makes us feel like "everybody knows your name". Having the time of our lives discovering Colorado in general we rely on yelp a lot for almost everything. Places to dine? I say Yelp rules. So dropping in for brunch on New Year's Day it was a welcome sight to see this place open and bustling with customers. They don't take reservations so we waited patiently. More or less 10-30 mins. They're super busy but it appears the staff can take it. Although one woman was an exception. Our server. She was slow and getting slower by the minute. I think she's not suited to this fast pace business. The food was good. Tasty. I had the Egg Marcos. It was scrambled eggs with cream cheese and country potatoes. No complains. They're known for good coffee. I had one of the best Decaf Mocha. The wait for the waitress to take our orders after already having to wait to sit was painfully bad. I had to summon the busboy to get her. Our food was not hot but room temperature. Which suggests that the kitchen was fast and our waitress was the exact opposite. Every turn was a wait. It's like time stood still. So I don't think I'm going back again sooner. Not a pro tip: but as someone who asked where's the corned beef hash on the menu and was told "I don't know why it's not there." You should continue asking. read more

I like the walnut cafe for the vibe and experience. The sweet menu items were very yummy, but the savory items didn't stand out. Additionally I got the Florentine coffee and it was bad. It was supposed to be infused with hot coco, but it didn't taste any different. I would just still to the waffles and breads. This was the first place we came to once we arrived into town. Our expectations were met and more. The Boulder latte was the goat. This alone made our trip here worth it! My daughter is gluten sensitive, so we knew they had options for her and she was very pleased. We all thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and a special shout out to the blueberry cornbread. I never heard of doing these two together, but I am now going to try it at home. It was more like a dessert tbh. The only negative was the wait time to get in, but that was expected seeing how great the food was. Service was very nice and courteous, so we hope to be back the next time we return into town. I found the pancakes to be expensive (over $9) for a couple blueberry cornbread pancakes that were not terribly good. My daughter had the waffles and said they were the best she'd ever eaten (she's eaten a lot of them)! Service was quick and very friendly. Frands...let me just let YOU know about the wonders they are working down at the Walnut Café. I came there right after a dentist appointment and they lifted my spirits!! For the amount of great food they give ya, I'd say their prices are re-ah-suh-na-ble!! I had the "2 Eggs any way you like them" with Fresh Fruit and French Toast as my sides. That's right...they give you TWO sides. The Fresh Fruit wasn't anything special but the French Toast really got me going. I also had a "Homemade Sweet Roll"...get one you KNOW you want to. I would recommend asking them to heat it up little though, as it was just a tad firm. Ambience and aura wise this place was fizzy, bubbling, and a-a-a-alive. On a Thursday morning no less!! I loved their very fun decor and krazy color scheme, it was a cross between eclectic and retro. Their tabl cards were heart-shaped!! MY FAVE FEEL!! There was a little kewpie doll at the cash register...WOW...did they know I was coming? I just wished it was a little warmer so we could enjoy that lovely view of the Rockiez. The service was guh-guh-guh-great. Our waitress was fun and sweet and even had a babydoll head on her bedazzled cap. How fun!! I'm loving the underlying touches of baby memorabilia!! Went with my family for breakfast. They were very friendly and busy but we managed to get a table, kids menus and our drinks! My chai coffee was amazing my dad had a latte and loved it. Unfortunately we couldn't say the same about our breakfast meals. No one in the family liked the potatoes. They were seasoned with many strong flavors the taste with over bearing. I asked the waitress what was the seasoning on the potatoes and she didn't know just stated that they put a lot of different seasonings. Bacon was cooked to crisp.The kids loved the pancakes. You can always expect great service at Walnut Cafe. I have been there several times for breakfast or brunch and every time I have had really awesome service - nice, effective and caring! The menu is alot to choose from but I always go with some breakfast option. The Huevos Rancheros are always a great option here with great sauce and plenty to eat. I have also tried a few of their omelettes and all were tasty and filling. I liked the southside special the most as it had some green chiles and just the right kick. Came here on a Sunday with a buddy and had no wait which is rare on Sunday breakfasts going out in Boulder. Service was fair: the waitress checked in and refilled our coffee at the right time. She gave us adequate time to place our order and we didn't feel rushed despite the crowd of people that came in shortly after us. As for the food: -sausage/pepper jack omelette with green chili sauce: this is a custom omelette I made. The egg was fluffy and perfectly cooked with enough sausage bites and cheese. The chili sauce paired well those flavors. Not hard to mess this one up but good. -blueberry cornbread: yum. It was a large portion with fresh blueberries that crumbled easily and was moist to the touch. -French toast: standard French toast. Nothing to complain here. -black coffee: very robust and flavorful blend from ozo roasters. Honestly my favorite part because I'm a coffee addict. Stopped here for lunch on our way through to Walden. Just happened upon it at the right time. Really nice little Diner with patio seating and plenty of room inside. The staff is attentive and friendly, couldn't ask for better! Would have loved to try breakfast here if the time of day had been different, every plate I saw in passing tables looked delish. I had the chicken burrito and it was well seasoned, came out hot with melted cheese and a green chili sauce. Was really wonderful. My husband had the club sandwich and he enjoyed every bite. Thank you Walnut Cafe for a great dining experience, when traveling I get tired of eating out and it was nice that this place had so many different offerings.
