Dr Kelly Hood is the best! She is super knowledgeable, and is the just kindest, most personable, proactive and caring doctor. She saw both my teenage daughter and I in the same visit and we both loved her. She took such care in quickly removing a spot to be checked (barely felt it, so grateful for her skill too!) and appreciate that she isn't trying to upsell or push expensive products, but takes the time to educate you on what's effective and truly best for you. A few years ago I decided to get an annual check on my skin as I had never had one and know family members who have had skin cancer. I wanted to be proactive but had also never done it before. I went to see Dr. Hood and the whole experience was uncomfortable. At first she seemed confused on why I would come in even though I explained I wanted to have an annual check. She then looked me over and told me that I didn't need to come back. The whole experience was off putting and made me feel like I was dumb to even think doing a preemptive check was something people don't do. I got the feeling she only wanted to deal with patients who were going to pay lots of money for the cosmetic things. The whole ordeal made me afraid to go back to a dermatologist until recently when my primary doctor told me she wanted me to see one and referred me to someone else. I'm now treating precancerous cells on my forehead. I'm writing this review because I want anyone else who feels like they weren't taken seriously or treated in a similar way to know that it's not you and it's important to get your skin checked and there are other options. If you feel like anything is wrong at all, be assertive and seek other opinions. I am a born and raised GenX baby who was literally taught to use baby oil and lay in the sun from the time I was a young child. As I have gotten older, the fact that I don't easily burn has not fostered the best skincare habits and I know how important it is to see a dermatologist regularly, given these circumstances, but I admit it, I slacked. Ask if for the price - the treatment will help you to achieve the desired results or if you might have to come again and again to achieve the desired outcome. I had a very frustrating experience with Kelly Hood's office. To begin, the woman at the front desk is incredibly rude. I went in for injectables. They were running a special on Xeomin and I had never tried it before so I decided to give it a go. Kelly Hood looked at my forehead and decided on X amount of units. I had confirmed with her how many units she was going to inject and we decided on that. When I was back at the front desk to pay, I was charged for a different amount of units and asked the front desk to write down how many I received on my receipt. I thought maybe I heard the price wrong so I let it go. I came home and it was bothering me for a few days so I decided to call the office and ask how much she charges for the same special I received. She told me and then I made mention how I was overcharged. I was put on hold and Kelly Hood came back on the phone to say "oh I actually gave you more units" - if that were truly the case then she undercharged me. But I know I wasn't given the amount of units I was told and I know I was overcharged. In her defense, she did offer to refund me but said "iTs OnLy XxXx DoLlArS" and I felt diminished and belittled. Honest mistakes happen all the time, but this one didn't seem like an honest mistake. To smear the icing on the cake, the neurotoxin never worked. I waited 3 months before getting it again, went to a different place, got the same product from a different injection specialist and had much better results. I think they were trying to offload expired product they had acquired from the COVID shutdown and ran a special to sell it quickly. That is unfortunate and dishonest and because of my experience, I would not go back or recommend her to anybody. *****Also would like to add, it is a HIPAA violation for Kelly Hood to be disclosing who her patients are without their consent (i.e. my sister) and how many units I received. I intentionally did not put my medical history in this review as I and my family have the right to patient privacy and she violated that. This further supports my reasoning for not wanting to visit her office ever again. read more

Why are doctors NOT following the true science? Dr. Kelly Hood's practice policy discriminated against my daughter because she was not vaccinated, my daughter had covid, has natural immunity with robust antibodies. Wanted to make an appointment for my daughter for a skin condition. Dr Hood has seen this your woman in the past. I asked if there was any exception since she is a patient, had covid with natural immunity, was told ....NO! After asking the receptionist Kristin to speak/have a conversation directly with Dr Hood I was told to hold on and was quickly replied to that the Dr's reply to me was her policy stands & to take my business elsewhere to another dermatologist. I understand a business can have a policy but to discriminate with and indignant attitude to a client, a young adult at that, is just preposterous and to not even have the dignity to have a conversation! It was a strange experience. I was kept waiting for 45 minutes with no explanation and only when I stepped out in the gown they gave me did I get any explanation. Dr. Hood then came in and it felt like she was racing through my appointment. She took five minutes tops to examine my whole body and then addressed my eye skin tag and various other skin tags in such a quick way, the whole treatment was over in a very painful ten minutes. She then charged me extra for treating the tags and it was $350 for what was less than a 20 minute appointment. Her treatment of my eye was done so quickly that she left a quarter of the skin tag on my eyelid and it's now growing back, and all the other skin tags on my body never fully came off. I now have to go back and get them all redone. Upsetting and unacceptable to say the least. Very unprofessional and disappointing. read more

Dr. Hood is an amazing physician, dermatologist, role model. I am a physician who rotated with her during my training. I was also her patient before relocating to Southern California for my training. I learned so much from her. She is absolutely wonderful, she cares deeply about her patients and their well being. She is very diligent! She practices evidence based medicine. Which means she supports vaccination. And recommends what is best for her patients. Not what is most lucrative for her business. In this world that is priceless! She is the dermatologist that I trust for my own family! In fact my entire family go to her office. Including my mother and two sisters. I'm a patient who gets my annual skin checkup (I'm very fair and at risk for skin cancer) and she takes a logical and very pragmatic approach to my skin care. Actually I wanted to comment today because our daughter, who is moving to Portland for a job and experienced a bad breakout this weekend. She contacted dermatologists in Portland, and could not get an appointment until April. I called Dr. Hood's office early Monday morning, received a call back within 45 minutes, and Dr. Hood saw her early Tuesday, even though I know she was fully booked. She immediately identified the condition, provided a prescription for my daughter, provided truly lovely words of encouragement, and within 24 hours her skin was significantly clearer. It was such a kind and meaningful thing to do, and made such a difference at a pretty stressful time for our daughter. I could not recommend Kelly Hood any higher, she is the best! read more

Dr. Hood saw my 5 yr old daughter after she had a rash for over two weeks that kept getting worse and worse. I had been to the doctor 4x and never had an answer other than possible "contact" allergy or "food" allergy, except we hadn't done anything different. Dr. Hood took a few minutes and knew exactly what the rash was and showed me some pictures and shared some info from a medical book. My entire family has been patients of Kelly Hood for years, and I called to make my daughter an appointment just to check a mole, she saw her multiple times in the past for mole removals, exema treatment and acne and when she showed up today, they told her that they wouldn't take our insurance and she needed to cash pay-she called me and I talked to the receptionist and said I was just there a few months prior and they took our insurance and she said they can take it after Jan 1, (11 days from now) and they could take it if it were me, but not for her? It's the same insurance. Wtf. I asked to speak with kelly and they wouldn't let me or even ask her to call me, she has seen all 5 of us for years but came into the waiting room and told my daughter, "what's the big deal honey, it's only a couple hundred dollars, just pay cash" !! Why would we pay cash when we pay as much as we do monthly for a PPO, and why will she take it from me, but not my grown daughter? Long story short, she wouldn't see her today, even though when I scheduled the appointment a few months ago she knew our insurance and never said it would be a problem. Insincere. That is the word that comes to mind when I've called this office. I want to make it clear this does not refer to the doctor, Kelly Hood, but some of her staff. If you can get to Kelly, she is wonderful. The patronizing tone and baby voice of a receptionist, who cut me off consistently was unsettling. Here is an adapted, shortened version of one call: "How are youuuuuuu Helen?" Reception. "Well, I...." "Please hold." "Hello?" Helen "Soooo what can we do for you?" "Well, I'd like to come in soon because..." "Oh, please hold." "...ehr, hello, hello?" "The doctor isn't in after 1 PM, so it may be a few months." "But I..." "Let me just see, OK honeeeey?" And here is another call as an example: "Hi, I'd like Botox." "Oh, what's your name? Tomorrow at 9 work for you?" It's like a bad skit. SNL would have a field day with this sort of behavior! I understand everyone wants to look good, but don't expect to get in for a visit in a reasonable time if you call to say "I have a skin rash" or "Can I come in for a checkup?" In fact, don't bother calling for anything other than Botox or an instant cash cosmetic procedure. A loyal client should be offered a little more respect. I tried to support Dr. Hood, because she was nice, even rec. her to several women before getting to the point where there was a push toward the cosmetic and away from the health. Wow! So I overlooked the one bad review that was posted on yelp. My mistake. I called to ask some questions in regards to Botox and how the Dr. does it per unit or area. The woman answering the phone was condescending in her tone when answering my questions. For example, I said, that I was from LA and I was shopping around to find a Doctor to do Botox and that it is different up here. Rather than find out what I meant by that, her sarcastic answer was "we use the same medicine here than they use in LA". I should have known then not to continue. But I still gave her the benefit of the doubt. She convinced me to come in and talk to the Doctor so I made an appointment. However she did not answer my questions. Day of appointment I start filling out paper work and realize that I am going to have to pay $100 to see the Doctor before my simple questions can be answered. I tried speaking with the receptionist (same woman I spoke with on the telephone) and tried to ask the questions again. Her face pruned up and she said "maybe this isn't the place for you". I have no words for this sort of treatment to a perspective client. Other than absolutely RUDE. So if you have any questions or are knowledgeable about the treatment or service you want, I do not recommend this place. Needless to say I never saw the Doctor and didn't care to after such treatment. I am from LA and have been using Botox for years. It is very competitive down there so prices are competitive. I started calling around to find out pricing per unit/area and if they do touch ups 2 weeks later. I ask this because Botox can be diluted and I absolutely know how many units it takes for my desired area. If they do not do touch ups it makes me wonder if they are using pure Botox. In the Bay Area prices can range from 400 to 800 dollars compare to LA where I pay no more the 400 for a Doctor to administer it. So of course I am going to ask around. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Hood for almost 15 years. My first appointment was due to dryness under my eyes. In those years she had completely transformed my skin! I totally trust her, through her education and recommendations my skin has is the healthiest it has ever been. To be honest, I have dabbled with Botox and filler. I am 60 after all. She does a great job keeping your age and personality in mind when she is using Botox/filler. She never over does it and it always looks very natural. What I appreciate more than that is how she has changed the texture of my skin. Even with some wrinkles I do get compliments on my skin almost daily. Highly recommend!!! I just came back from Dr. Hood's office. I didn't want to pay the $25 cancellation fee, so I decided to give it a try, and the reason I wanted to cancel was because some negative reviews here saying she is only good at cosmetic area but not skin problem. I called to cancel my appointment, and her receptionist told me there would be a $25 cancellation charge for new patient. I was not happy, they didn't mention it when I made appointment. So I decided to keep my appointment and give it a try. Dr. Hood is great! She removed the mole on my shoulder in just 2 minutes with no pain. She is nice, friendly, patient, professional, and funny. She gave me that cute face when she knew I was scared. Great Dr! For me, she is also good at skin problem. She asked if I wanted to remove the mole today, and did the surgery right away! Very effective. However, her receptionist is cold. The receptionist will scare new patients away. Some smile wouldn't hurt. I will see if the scar heals good. The one star I didn't give is because of the cold receptionist. Be friendly like Dr. Hood since you are working for a nice Dr like her! read more

Seriously reading some of these reviews below are a little bit nutty to me, but that is just my humble opinion. OR I have thick skin and can see a thing of what they are talking about with the staff or Dr. Hood. But anyhow to my story.. I have been seeing Dr Hood all of 2010 and all I can say is she does awesome work! I am 44 and people normally think I am at least 10 years younger.. yes in part is genes, but no doubt the other part is the Botox (Dysport) and the Restylane. I have had work done by other doctors offices before and while like someone mentioned below Kelly Hood does NOT do touch ups for FREE.. oh well that is a price I am willing to pay to get top notch work. I completely trust Dr Hood and so does the half a dozen friends that live in the East Bay do too. read more

I went in to have 1 skin tag removed under my eye. The office has parking. Not tons but some. The receptionist were very nice & Dr. Hood was friendly, quick & efficient !
