Warning for anyone with good insurance (Delta Dental PPO/Tech employees) - Zero Financial Transparency and Unauthorized Charges. I've had two visits here and the billing practices are incredibly shady. Dishonest Charging and Customer Service: During my first visit, they charged $750 but the insurance paid them later and billed only $474 from me. I was not notified of any of the charges from walnut dental until I checked my dental insurance account 5 months later. When I called them out on these charges and demanded a refund, they gave me a weak excuse that the money was just "on hold," despite there being no record of any hold on my portal. They only refunded me because I discovered the mistake and confronted them. If you don't audit your bills line-by-line, they will take advantage of you. Avoid this clinic if you value financial transparency and ethics. Unauthorized Charges: During my routine cleaning, the clinic automatically charged $75 to my credit card on file without my knowledge, consent, or presenting a treatment plan. Hidden/Padding Fees: They added non-covered cosmetic/fluff codes to my bill--such as D1330 (Oral Hygiene Instruction) for a ridiculous $88 and D4921 (Irrigation) for $29--without informing me beforehand that these were out-of-pocket costs. read more

Returned to this clinic after two years. Dr. Bindu recommended a deep cleaning ($550), which I declined, though I did accept her recommendation for a cavity treatment for $125. When I asked for a regular maintenance cleaning instead, she refused, stating it was inappropriate for my current gum health. I explained that my previous dentist at same clinic provided maintenance cleanings even after I declined deep cleaning, but Dr. Bindu simply noted that different doctors have different practices. Despite my repeated requests for a standard cleaning, she continued to refuse. (I had another dental visit early this year at different clinic. The dentist had no problem performing maintenance cleaning for me.) The front desk lady who addressed my concern was unprofessional and impatient when I tried to understand why no maintenance cleaning was provided. I have Delta Dental plan CAA54. I need a root canal and a crown. I studied the insurance policy. I priced out what the cost was going to be based on the co-pays for the procedures. Based on the plan, I anticipated a $325 co-pay for a D2791 crown. The doctor comes in and says we don't do metal crowns because you can't x-ray through them. She says you have to elect for the porcelain/ceramic crown. The D2740 porcelain/ceramic crown on a molar is $375 co-pay and an additional $150 co-pay for a total of $525.  They ask me to accept the charges. I look at the charges. $850 for the crown.  I start asking questions. It gets confusing really quickly.  I decide to hold off. Let's figure this out.  I pay the $5 co-pay for the visit and start doing research. I review the insurance policy in detail. It's clear in Schedule B that i must be offered the plan benefit of a high-quality laboratory-processed crown per their agreement with the insurance company.  That stood out.  So I get on the phone with the dentist office and they say yes that's true but that the only option that they have for laboratory processed crowns are ones that fall under the specialized/name-brand/in-office upgrade and that's an additional $325 for a total of $850.  I share with them that the policy describes the $325 upgrade as an alternative that I choose.  They respond by saying that they only offer crowns that fall under the specialized/name-brand/in-office upgrade so if I want to do the procedure with them, the cost is $850.  By now my flags are going up and this is feeling really weird so I call the insurance company and explain everything to them.  What do you know, the same thing that read in the insurance policy was the same thing Delta Dental told me. They say I get to choose to pay the higher price, but I don't have to, and that the $525 crown still has to be offered by the dentist. Delta tells me they'll investigate and if the outcome is in my favor, they'll instruct the dentist that they have to offer the procedure and then you get the procedure at the options and prices that the insurance policy offers but that process takes up to 30 days.  So more tooth pain if I wait.  So I file a grievance and literally on the phone the insurance company tells me to get it in writing from the dentist that they do not offer metal crowns and that they only offer crowns that fall under the specialized/name-brand/in-office upgrade.  I call the dentist up. I let them know that the insurance company is asking for me to get that in writing.  Instant resistance.  I feel like the request is basic and somehow the conversation spirals into confusion again.  She states come in and I'll give you the information. I say, just to be clear, I'm picking up a document from your office saying something along the lines of you do not offer metal crowns and that you only offer crowns that fall under the specialized/name-brand/in-office upgrade.  She says, no, I'm going to give you what the insurance tells us to charge you. ?????  I let her know the insurance company specifically asked that I get in writing that they don't offer those services. She says ok. I'd have to get that from the doctor. Ok. Perfect. I asked what's the process? Do I go down there to pick it up from you or do you email it to me?  She says no I'm not doing this today.  Mind you this call happened at noon.  I say ok but I have an appointment with you guys on Wednesday and your office has a 72hr cancellation fee and so if this doesn't get resolved today and it pushes into next week and I ultimately have to cancel, now I'm stuck with a cancellation fee.  She said once I have what you want available I'll give you a call.  Realizing there's no commitment I ask, but can we make sure and get this resolved today?  She then states, you know what, at this point I'm cancelling your appointment (My tooth still hurts) because I don't feel comfortable with how you're talking and the whole procedure and obviously the insurance is going back and forth.  I'm hit by this.  REALLY?!?  I tell myself, ok, I'll figure that part out later.  I tell her ok but the insurance company is still asking that I get that in writing from you.  She says you can let your insurance company know and they'll call us here.  At that point I ended the call. read more

KNOW YOUR INSURANCE BENEFITS and BEWARE of this PLACE: I'm currently waiting for this office's response to overcharging me from what my insurance claims and coverage states I should be paying. I advise that you know the detailed breakdown of your insurance coverage before coming to this place because I naively trusted that I was being charged for what wasn't covered under my insurance and my copay. However, after my last procedure with a crown replacement where I was charged $1500, I should've listened to my gut in looking into this discrepancy beforehand. After reviewing my processed claims under my insurance, this last procedure should've only cost me 200 bucks for my co-pay. Further reviewing the rest of my claims, at this point, my total costs for all my visits should be around 500 under my insurance, not over 2k that I have already paid to them! Seriously, be careful with this place. I will update my review if they resolve my complaints, but honestly, make sure to read the rest of the reviews here and on Yelp. My husband found this dentist, so I didn't look into them thoroughly until recently, but many clients have expressed the same issues that I experienced with weird overcharging and insurance disputes. Find another dentist to save your money and time. UPDATE: 5/16/26: The office has resolved this issue and has refunded the cost differences that my husband and I were owed after using their services. Though we appreciate how they handled the situation, which is why we raised the 1 to 3 stars, it's still extremely upsetting to have encountered this issue. Strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any treatments here. A few years ago I came in as a new patient after just getting my own dental insurance for the first time. Almost immediately I was pressured into an expensive laser gum treatment -- they warned me I had signs of gum disease and that it would get worse fast if I didn't act now. I agreed and did one session, which was really painful, but never went back for the rest. I ended up going to another dentist for a second opinion, unfortunately after already paying for that first session. They told me my gums looked completely normal and were confused about why I thought I had periodontal disease. Looking at the reviews here it seems like I'm not the only one who experienced this kind of upselling and pressure. I was new to handling my own insurance and honestly felt taken advantage of. I don't write reviews but I'm writing this one because I'm still pissed. I called this office to schedule an emergency visit to see an orthodontist. I had a serious abscess on my gum that was giving me serious pain in addition to gum bleeds. The origin of the gum issue was a cavity. I already knew this, because my dentist had already told me this. However, given the significant pain at the gum, I requested an orthodontist. This office told me that they would rather I see a regular dentist on my first visit (I didn't understand that, but ok...). Here is where things go bad for me and why I'm writing the review. I get to the office and they do a ton of X-rays (more than usual). They finally tell me what I already know [I have a gum infection caused from a cavity]. Not to mention, the dentist walks in and starts probing in my mouth before introducing herself by name and title. She eventually came back before I left and gave me her name apologetically after the fact. The office manager walks in with a quote for a root canal to address the cavity near the part of the gum that was causing me immediate pain. She hands me the $6K estimate and tells me how good my insurance is, then tells me my insurance is paying nearly $5K of that. She tells me that my portion and out of pocket would be $1400 today. For starters, I already know my Premium PPO is good. I even know what percentage is paid for root canal's. Here is what I also know, I know I can get a root canal done at more offices than I can count for less than $6K for this single tooth. But, ok... that's not what has me pissed. Remember the part about "I was in pain". When I said I didn't want to pay that today, there was no offer or effort to do anything for me while they had me there. Nothing at all! Basically they told me to give them a call in the future if I changed my mind, then escorted me out the chair. The huge abscess didn't go away because I didn't get the $6k+ root canal performed. I had to get my doctor in the loop because I was in so much pain, to address the gum infection, then I had to reschedule another dental appointment because this one was a total disrespectful waste of time (and money because I took off work for this nonsense). That's my story. Consider this story when you consider this office. This will be the customer service you get. You have dental options, take advantage of your options. I'm not even telling you not to go there, but here are the facts. These are my facts. I don't have a good story to tell about this office and simply can't recommend them. The front office staff the came in and explained it was going to be more than $300 out of pocket. My wife declined and said we the normal cleaning is fine. Like some other reviews, I went in for a routine cleaning and was informed that I needed a "deep cleaning," which was not covered by my insurance. I explained to the hygienist that I did not want to pay out of pocket, as my insurance covers cleanings twice a year, which is all I required. The hygienist insisted that since the dentist recommended a deep cleaning, she would not perform the regular cleaning that was covered by my insurance. At that point, I was already seated and didn't plan to walk out, so I reluctantly accepted the deep cleaning. However, the "deep cleaning" I received was no different from the one my previous dentist performed, which was covered by my insurance. I left the dental office feeling dissatisfied and with an additional charge of $100+. Despite my frustration, since I had two more cleanings covered by insurance, I decided to return in December to make use of the benefits. However, during that visit, I checked in for my appointment only to be told it was canceled online and rescheduled for January. I knew this was incorrect for two reasons: 1) I never received a confirmation email regarding the cancellation or the rescheduled appointment, and 2) I had not rescheduled it, as I had already decided to leave the dental office after my last visit. This appointment was simply meant to utilize my insurance-covered cleaning before moving on. Based on my experiences with upselling practices and inadequate communication, I cannot recommend this dental office. If you prioritize transparency and genuine care in your dental care, I advise seeking services elsewhere. read more

Appointments can run a little long but at least they're thorough. They offer retainers/mouthguard cleaning which is what I was planning on doing when I stopped by here on Saturday at 11:30am. Unfortunately when I walked in they said they were closing soon. No special holiday that I'm aware of for February 24th. Might want to update your Saturday hours since it says the office will be open until 3pm. So much for weekend errands when it's too time constricting to complete during the week. In conclusion, call them ahead of time for their hours before making the drive. Edit: Dr. Bindu followed up with me and let me know the doctor working that day was sick. This has been the most unprofessional dental experience I've ever had. Dr. Bindu's bedside manner is severely lacking--on more than one occasion, I left her office in tears. She places instruments directly on your chest during procedures, which feels careless and inappropriate. Instead of offering support or guidance, she makes you feel ashamed about your dental hygiene, like you're doing everything wrong. There is a complete lack of empathy in her approach. She aggressively recommends procedures that feel unnecessary, adding on excessive fees and making you feel like your teeth are in terrible condition--even if you came in for a simple cleaning. The pricing is incredibly high for the level of care provided. To make matters worse, the front office staff is unfriendly, disorganized, and the wait times are consistently long. I have been struggling with so much pain and a infected tooth for months. My assigned dentist was simply not helping me and continuously pushed my D out for the extraction and did not give me antibiotics when I asked .. having an infected tooth is super dangerous. From my personal experience, Walnut Dental has a history of upselling services for years through sneaky entrapment. I was hoping that they would get their act together after all the negative reviews relating to such. Historically, the Operations Manager at the front desk would tell me what my insurance co-pay is and what the other services "antibacterial irrigation" and "fluoride varnish" would cost "IF" the dentist recommends them. However, each time when I'm in the chair, the dentist would just simply go ahead and apply the irrigation and varnish. He/she would describe the treatment but not once would he/she ask if I wanted the treatment for an upcharge. Today I put them to the test once again. I told the Operations Manager that I'll just pay the co-pay and I'll pass on the other treatments. She said ok and made me sign the electronic pad blindly without showing me the document that I'm signing. They have a history of doing that which may be legally questionable. I then proceeded to see the dentist/hygienist and as usual, he/she would just describe and apply the irrigation and varnish treatments while working on my teeth but didn't even pause to ask me if I wanted it. Obviously, 1) a lack of communication between front desk and dentist and 2) entrapment. I think the quality of the work is fine and meets the standard of any other professional dental office. I had a very disappointing experience at Walnut Dental Group and Orthodontics. If possible, I would give them zero or negative stars. Over two years ago, July, 2023, I received a bone graft and related procedures. Walnut Dental Group is listed as a participating provider under my MetLife dental insurance. However, I was required to pay the full amount upfront, including the portion that should have been billed directly to insurance. I asked the office to submit the claim to insurance first so I could know the allowed fee, but they refused. I was told that unless I paid the full amount immediately including the insurance part, treatment would not proceed. I trusted their promise that once insurance paid its portion, I would be refunded immediately. Unfortunately, they refused to refund me the over charged money, only returned the insurance paid portion which I paid it to Walnut Dental Group for my insurance before the treatment. Walnut Dental Group is my insurance participating, but they violated the contract with the insurance. I was overcharged by $414! In addition, I later discovered Walnut Dental Group submitted the claim to insurance for treatments that were never performed. This office just wants charge more money from the patients and insurance rather than take care of the patients and their reputation! I spent over two years trying to resolve this issue, including filing grievances with my insurance. Despite over two years communication with both the office and my insurance (Over 20 faxes to insurance and uncountable emails to the office), Walnut Dental Group refused to return the full balance. They only issued a small partial refund (about only 20% of the overcharged amount). This experience has been extremely frustrating and time-consuming; it impacted my healthy as well. I am sharing this review to warn other patients: please do NOT trust any promises of Walnut Dental Group gives you. Please do NOT pay until your insurance approves your treatment and know the allowed amount by insurance. Please review your bills carefully before paying and double-check with your insurance company about the allowed fees. read more

I was so nervous leading up to the surgery and the workers did an amazing job at reassuring me and making me comfortable. The surgeon did such an amazing job, I barely had any swelling. New patient to the practice, had a full mouth exam done by Dr Bindi last week and all I can say is she is a very thorough dentist that goes step by step as far as what needs to be done as priority and so on with my treatment planning. A few hiccups from my former dentist as he was "old school" which thankfully with all the new advanced technology Walnut has Dr Bindi was able to find and treatment plan it on time before anything goes the wrong direction for my oral health. Not sure where the good reviews are coming from, but listen to the people who state that the people in this office are trying to upsell you useless treatments (especially the laser gum treatment). I came here back in 2020 never having any serious dental issues for a routine teeth cleaning. I was expecting to just get my teeth cleaning covered by insurance and be on my way, but I ended up being at the dental office for 2-3 hours because I was told I had severe gum recession and needed 4 deep cleanings and LASER GUM TREATMENT coming out to around $1500. I originally came in for just the teeth cleaning so this cost was unexpected. The front desk/financials lady came in the room like a car dealership trying to rip you off and presented all of the charges and my first thought was to just get the deep cleaning for now and research the extra treatments they were recommending when I got home, which really pissed the dentist off (not sure why she was getting annoyed when not everyone can just throw away $1500 whenever they want). This office made me think I had serious issues with my teeth which is why I ended up getting the $300 deep cleaning and scheduled the other deep cleanings (I believe they suggested 1 every 3 months for a year). After talking to my friends in dental school and looking up online on whether I was getting ripped off, I definitely felt scammed but wanted to get a second opinion from another dental office. Lo and behold, the other dental office said that I only had really minor gum recession that I didn't need to worry about and definitely did not have as many issues with my teeth as Walnut Dental claimed I did - I've only ever needed my routine teeth cleanings since I stopped going to Walnut Dental. I've been going to my current dental office for about 3 years now and have had no issues - highly recommend Sean Yu's office on Barranca although I'm not sure if he's taking in any new patients! The worst part is that 2 years after I went to this office, I was talking to my coworker after she got back from a dental appointment and she was talking about how she ended up spending $1000 dollars at the dentist office when she initially only came in for a routine teeth cleaning and said that her dentist told her she had severe gum recession and needed laser gum treatment. I usually try to look through positive reviews for a place before I go to give them the benefit of the doubt. WRONG. Please PLEASE read through all the negative ones first because I can agree with what people are saying: this office seems to only care about money. I came here for the first time last month. This place has a lot of reviews so I figured it would be decent. The first appointment was such a bad experience from the dental assistant who did my x-rays and brought me to the room to wait for the ortho. She was rude, pushy, and made the whole experience very uncomfortable. The ortho Dr. Yasmin Daryabegi literally only saw me for 2 minutes and did not explain the basic risks or the process of the service I wanted (ie I just wanted to get new retainers). She just confirmed if I wanted the service or not and brought the dental assistant to do all of my other scans. The dental assistant proceeded to finish up with my appointment and I never got to talk to the ortho again. She did not even care to explain to me any options for the service until I remembered to ask. Note: To schedule this appointment, I called the office and Julie picked up. I asked if the doctor needed my past ortho records just to double-check that getting a new retainer would be accurate/effective. Julie told me that would not be necessary and the ortho also did not care to review it. After the appointment, I went to the front desk to schedule my follow-up appt. They told me to come back in 2 weeks to which I asked how long would it take and what would I be doing for the next appointment. They looked at me like I was stupid and explained in a brief but patronizing way. The worst part is that they demanded me to pay for the whole service upfront before I even had anything done or had received my new retainers. I was pretty shocked by this considering most providers usually give the option of paying in two separate payments or once the service/treatment has been delivered/given to the patient. I had to ask to pay half for the first appt and the second half at the follow-up appt because I did not feel comfortable paying for the whole service when I hadn't even done anything yet or gotten my new retainers... They agreed but I was shocked that they didn't even give me options for payment. Even my basic dental office does that or gives me the option to pay once I get the full bill later. A few days later, I went on the patient portal to message the doctor some concerns I had due to her not explaining the process or risks of getting a new retainer at a new ortho office. She did not respond even after a week and a half. For my second appointment, I came back to the office. Not only is this office rude but they also make you wait 20-30 minutes after your scheduled time. (This happened at the first appointment too.) Once I checked in at the front desk, the first thing they asked was for me to pay the remainder of the bill. Note: I just came in and had yet to have my appointment or get my retainers. I asked "Am I getting the retainers fitted today" to which she said yes. I asked to pay after my appointment and she agreed. It's just so odd to me that this ortho/dental office demands payment the first chance they can get! After 30 minutes of waiting, I finally got shown to my room/chair. However, I only got to see the doctor for probably 60 seconds before she left. She didn't say anything about me coming back if I needed to get the retainers adjusted, she didn't give any suggestions or feedback or recommendations. She just came to see if my retainers fit and left without a word after 60 seconds. (So I'm paying a large amount for two appointments to only speak with the doctor for a total of 3 minutes????) My second appointment lasted a total of 10 minutes but I waited for 30 in the lobby. This experience really makes me believe that this office does not care about you. They're WEIRDLY obsessed with getting you to pay the first chance they get. In addition, the dental assistants don't let you talk or ask questions. They talk over you and constantly interrupt you. I often had my questions misunderstood or not answered correctly because they did not take the time to stop talking and actually listen. AND even when I would ask the doctor the same questions, she would not respond via the patient portal. Do not come here. You will probably regret it. read more

I don't know if it's just me but this place seems like they are trying to find every excuses to add more price tags... I went in a few months back knowing that I have an insurance and thinking that my cleaning will be free. However, they insisted that I need deep cleanings and it will incur hefty extra fees. I've been getting my teeth cleaned elsewhere periodically and doctors there all praised me for maintaining it well. I took extra care because I was getting ortho as well. But here at Walnut they told me something different. They were telling me I haven't been maintaining (just because I'm not on their chart lol). I just fell for it, because although I have been maintaining it well, I haven't gotten "deep" cleaning in years. With that, I really thought my next check up would be much lighter (or even zero out of pocket) in costs because I did my deep cleaning this year. I went in today and they still shoved me a price tag of 3 digits. I checked and went in already knowing that my insurance covers preventive exams and cleanings. I walked out this time. read more

Greedy people. For those visited, look at your claim from your dental provider and look at the laundry list of claims this office submitted. They even submitted a claim for oral hygiene instruction for $76. I'm assuming this is to "teach" me how to take care of my oral health. This office will submit claims for everything they can to grab money from you and your insurance company. Aside from this, they will continuously blast your email with advertisement. If you live around Irvine, I'd recommend making the drive out somewhere further to find a better dentist. This office is shameful. read more

I had the owner call me to go over some questions regarding my son and husband's visit. I was taken back by her rude and defensive tone. Not even 10 Seconds into our conversation. Then, when I commented to her of the unnecessary tone she stopped and continued in a condescending tone. When i told her the conversation was going no where and I didn't appreciate her tone and that she should know better as a business woman she hung up on me. WOW! I've been there where I've waited over 40 minutes to be seen. I've walked out because of the extreme wait time. I've felt the pressure and disregard once you deny a procedure like deep cleaning. I wish I'd have read these reviews. Walked out spending my savings with a bill of $600 for laser treatments they made me feel like I HAD to have. I was in a bad emotional state at the time and they 100% took advantage of me. I'm sure the laser treatments benefited me but by no means should it have been that expensive and pushed on me, showing charts of extreme mouth decay to push my decision. They said I will need multiple treatments 2x a year moving forward. I also had decent dental insurance and the bill without dental was quoted around 2k. When I moved and went to a new dentist I was expecting them to say it's time for another laser treatment...Instead they said my gums and teeth look good, keep flossing and brushing twice daily everything looks great. I am always super impressed by Dr. Bindi and the staff at walnut dental. Been coming here for over 10 years. Their front office staff are efficient and friendly. Julie goes out of her way to help. They take the time to explain everything. Walnut dental has great hygienist that support Dr. Bindi. Christy did a through job clean my teeth. She is very attentive!! Dr. Bindi was definitely born to be a dentist, everything is so natural. I highly recommend this place for your dental needs read more

Buyer beware: A friend went here and was quoted over $5,000 for multiple different mouth problems. They thought this was odd because they had no pain and no symptoms at all. They got a second opinion and none of the cavities and problems were found by the second dentist. Second dentist cost? $150. Always get a second opinion. This place sounds like an insurance scam, charging extremely high prices for non-existent issues. Would recommend avoiding. read more

I've been going here for a few years but not any longer! Every teeth cleaning they up charged for the antibiotics before they would clean them. Said I needed my wisdom teeth out and when the surgeon arrived, he said it wasn't a good idea, not safe.Dr. Bindu didn't care, kept saying I should do it, I figured she was upset not to make the money. Worts is when I came back a few months later for tooth sensitivity in a different tooth, she came in the room and lectured me that all my problems are due to the wisdom tooth I should have pulled. I was so rattled by her awful bedside manner, I didn't even tell her she was focused on old news, it was a different tooth. She never examined my mouth, she assumed it was my wisdom tooth. I just read her reviews and they aren't great compared to all the wonderful reviews I am seeing at other offices! I officially am switching doctors. If rudeness and lack of attention to detail are an issue for you, don't come here . read more

I went in for teeth infection on one of my wisdom tooth. They took 4 different types of x-Rays and the dentist saw me for 2 minutes then asked me to come in another time to remove all my wisdom tooth including the good ones. She didn't do any cleaning or treatment or not even send me home with any meds to address the infection until I requested. I'm definitely not going back!! Great location, kind staff, dentists that know what they are doing! I don't understand why some people had waiting time issues. I arrive for my appointments 5-10 minutes early and still get treated at the time of my appointment, no issues with waiting. I face financial burdens just as like others on here complaining about the cost of procedures. Walnut Dental understands that I may not want that extra irrigation done, or if I want to wait on my wisdom teeth. Never do I feel like they pressure me to do anything I don't want. Clean office, professional staff, would recommend this place to anyone looking for dental work. read more

They only recommend the most expensive services. Always say you need "deep cleaning". If you don't play by their book, they throw you out of their office. Dr. Chen is particularly bad. Very low quality of care. She's more like a pushy salesperson and than a doctor. read more
