I have been to Aspire Dental a few times and had such a great experience every time! From the moment I walked in, Doreen at the front desk was so friendly and welcoming. She made the check-in process smooth and easy. Irene, the dental hygienist, did an amazing job -- she was gentle, thorough, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout my cleaning. You can tell she really cares about her patients. I had a molar extracted by Dr. Kawamoto, and I was honestly nervous going in, but the procedure was quick and surprisingly painless. Dr. Kawamoto was professional, efficient, and reassuring the entire time. Her assistant, Sarah, was also wonderful -- very informative and helpful while assisting Dr. Kawamoto. She made sure I understood the aftercare instructions and answered all my questions. Overall, such a positive experience. I went in for a basic dental cleaning and they spent more time selling me on additional services than actually cleaning my teeth. No flossing, no scraping, nothing other than x-rays and a quick inspection. I asked ahead of time if I would be charged for the x-rays and they said "no" - which turned out to be a lie as I received a bill a few weeks later. My insurance covered these services on my previous first visit and they confirmed this second visit a year later would be covered by my insurance as well. Now I have to fight them to avoid paying for services I didn't even receive. Someone once warned me that this place was the Wal-Mart of dental care and they were right. This is a predatory practice, more so than most places. My wife come in for a routine check up and the dentist recommended 6 root canal's (SIX!)... we got a second opinion and it turns out only one was needed. Needless to say we left them in a hurry and now, my wife is getting a check in the mail years later due to the later fraudulent billing practices. The dentist doesn't even do cleanings, rather they have someone manually pick your teeth with a tool. They probably bill it as if the dentist did though.... Stay away!! read more

Gave a call to get some quotes and the lady that answered just sounded like she did NOT want to be there. She refused me quotes on anything to include X-rays and exams and told me "You'd have to be in our network". I am in the network. I was given 0 information and instead she tried to instantly schedule me for work (very long wait by the way). To refuse to give me any basic pricing and have a horrible dismissive attitude is 0/5 star worthy. Why would i schedule an appointment with you when my first experience is red flags and you can't tell a new customer your own office's prices? Not even cash prices for if i decided to pay out of pocket? Not even estimates? Also, if you're assuming with a negative attitude that someone seeking dental care-- isn't in the network, then give the out-of-network pricing, right? Guess not. I have been a patient here since 2021, and have always had a pleasant experience. Dr. Kawamoto and her staff are super warm and friendly, so a visit is like catching up with old friends. The dental hygienists are extremely gentle yet thorough with the cleanings. I used to have sensitivity to cold or hot foods, but since I have been coming to Aspire Dental regularly, I have noticed a significant decrease in sensitivity. The office is always clean and doesn't have the typical dentist office smell. The choice of interior design and decor is bright and cheerful. These factors were often overlooked by my previous dentists, but it makes such a big difference to the whole experience. I had some dental work done recently (crowns) and the whole experience was just "ok". The doctor is good and my crowns look and feel great but the support staff can be hit or miss depending on the visit. To name a few instances, there was one person who was trying to get my temporary crown on but struggled for about 25-30 minutes to put it on, finally a more senior person came and was able to install it within 10 minutes...what a difference!! The 2nd instance is regarding the surprise billing...one of the more senior support staff has advised me that having a fixed retainer is not good for my teeth and that it can lead to bone issues later on so they asked if I want it removed, I said "Sure, how much?" since my teeth were still getting finished cleaning I couldn't ask too many questions. The staff member told me "$190" and I said "Sure". After my cleaning was done, the same staff came and was telling me about how I need Invisalign because I have an "edge to edge" bite and my teeth were getting damaged (chipped, indentations on the back of my teeth, etc) because of it. I told them that I would think about it and let them know later on. As I went to pay, the same staff said that my fixed retainer removal was now $310 (instead of $190) because they had wrongly ASSUMED I would do the Invisalign treatment so they had given me a discount...kinda tricky...it was a classic bait and switch...! The third instance is regarding the information that the senior staff member had told me about my bite since it really concerned me, so I consulted with my last orthodontist and voiced my concerns that I had heard. He went on to say that I do have a slight "edge to edge" bite but it's nothing urgent...he then told me that he would never send his family to get ortho work (Invisalign included) done at a general dentist...good to know! After talking with him, I came to the conclusion that the senior staff member at Aspire was using a bit of "scare tactics" to sell me the Invisalign treatment for their new oral scanner....tricky tricky. I needed a new dentist and was assigned here. At this point. I believe this is a fraudulent office. Do not go here if you want to be taken advantage of. I had my mouth open getting fillings when they wanted me to sign for things I didn't ask for. These were all extra things not covered by insurance. They told me I NEEDED to get additional add ons and presented it as if I had no choice. As you sit there they tell you how bad everything is, and have a sales lady come by to have you sign and sell you additional treatments. From the first moment I got here I felt like something was off. All in all, they took advantage of me. When my cost should have been around 100 dollars after insurance coverages, i walked out of there owing over 800. I didn't even know what I was paying for or what treatments were being done. This is a private equity owned establishment. They only care about making money and not caring for patient's dental health. They will recommend upcharges that are not covered by insurance and are not necessary. The last time I went I was told I had 3 cavities and they recommended a treatment plan. I have never had a cavity in my life. I got a second opinion and that dentist told me I in fact did not have ANY cavities. Please beware of Aspire Dental. As a patient they recommended and performed painful, invasive procedures that were deemed as unnecessary by my insurance. The claim was ultimately denied, resulting in an expensive out of pocket expense. My senior parents were also patients and ultimately left Aspire for the same reason. Came in this week to bring my 11 year-old daughter for a routine cleaning. After tech rushed in and reviewed my daughter's chart, it was determined that she wasn't due for X-Rays yet. A few minutes later, another tech came in looking to frazzled and was going to shoot x-rays. I was asked to step out, which I did. The dentist asked me to not stand where I was, so I went back in the room where my daughter was. The tech figured out she wasn't due for x-rays after all. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS WORSE. The dentist was about to apply fluoride but then stopped to ask if it was ok. I told her no. She seemed shocked, but put it away. Then she turns to my daughter with instruments in her mouth and asks her "Does your toothpaste have fluoride in it? Fluoride is good for your teeth." What a passive aggressive response! I was appalled that she would have the audacity to make such a statement! Undermining a parent! I'll be reporting her. What she failed to realize is that I'm a prescriber. read more

Recently had my post check up (might I say healing perfectly with no problems) from my wisdom teeth extraction done by Dr. Kawamoto. She did an amazing job informing and letting me know what she was going to do pre, during, and post operation. The whole extraction went by smoothly and I had no problems post op during my healing process. Extremely helpful in finding an open slot to do the operation last minute. She did an amazing job and so helpful and nice. She will be taking care of my teeth for the continuous future. read more

I've always been afraid of the dentist and when I knew that I needed to get work done, I asked a lot of friends if they had any dentist recommendations. A friend recommended aspire dental specifically this location in Irvine. When I first went in, despite filling out all my insurance paperwork online, it seemed that they did not save it. After they did my initial assessment, they were giving me a price that was ridiculously high. Once I asked if that included my insurance, they double checked, and realized that they hadn't actually processed my insurance. That was definitely not the best first impression, but as someone who has had HORRIBLE experiences at other dentists- the insurance part was the least of my concerns. I really cared more about finding a place that handled my teeth gently since I'm extremely sensitive, and the quality of care. Chanh and Jalen are the absolute best and I cannot be any more grateful. They are so detailed and explaining exactly what's happening as it's happening. They are both also so lovely and so gentle, constantly checking in to ensure that I'm comfortable. They really make you feel comfortable, like you can ask any question you may have, and always do their best to schedule you in if you need something fixed or looked at. I have nothing but positive reviews for the staff. I've only been going there for a year, but I know that this is gonna be my long-term dentist. TL;DR- best dentist experience I've ever had. BEWARE Do your homework!!!! Call your insurance company and verify what your plan covers and cross reference it with how much they are charging. I received the treatment plan for my upcoming crown, which included a detailed analysis of cost and then how much I I would pay out of pocket. The office was charging me full price for medication $78 , stating my insurance didn't cover this. Additionally, the cosmetic crown was also not covered l, this them charging $320 I called my insurance company and gave them itemized line by line, only to find out that the medication was covered with a co-pay of only $15 dollars, and the cosmetic crown also only had a co-pay of $120 . Bottom line the office was trying to charge me an extra $250 This is not the first time this has happened here. They charged my son $400 for treatment that he did not authorize and when I suggested he fight it the office said it was a mistake. . It's no wonder people don't trust the dentist. They also book multiple people at the same time so it takes forever to get something done. They disregard that people have jobs and they take time off to be there and they make you wait a long time! I rarely post reviews like this but I had to warn other people. BEWARE!!! I've been going to Aspire dental for a few years. Last October 2022, I had routine cleaning and was recommended again to get a mouthguard for night use. I asked whether it is covered by my dental insurance, lady at the front desk was able to check my insurance and said that it was covered but I had copay of $50 for the mouthguard. I paid the copay and came back 2 weeks later to pick up my mouthguard. There was no mention of any other due bills. I had to call and cancel my next cleaning appointment (6 months later) because Aspire didn't have any Saturday appointments available for 2-3 months. I went to another dental office for my next routine cleaning appointment. There was no mention of any outstanding bills during the phone conversation. Almost a YEAR LATER I receive a FINAL NOTICE for an unpaid balance that would go to collections of not paid within 10 days of receiving the letter. So I called Aspire dental 9/21/23 and spoke with Doreen to ask regarding this FINAL NOTICE of unpaid balance. She said it looks like it's for the mouthguard. I explained to her I paid my copay and was told last year it was covered by my insurance. She said she will follow up with the lady that handles those (If I remember correctly, she mentioned name Vanessa?) I also told her that ASPIRE dental NEVER sent me a bill through the mail nor informed me of an outstanding bill through ANY other means of communication. October 11, I went back to Aspire for my routine cleaning. I spoke with Doreen again and gave her the FINAL NOTICE letter and followed up. She passed the letter to another lady in the office. She also mentioned that they didn't know the letters were being sent out. Nobody followed up with me regarding this bill. November 6, I received a bill from collections (Radius Global Solutions LLC) for this Unpaid bill amounting to $675. This is in addition to the copay I already paid. ABSOLUTELY NO COMMUNICATION FOLLOW UP from Aspire dental. I have no debts and all my bills are paid in FULL every month. To say this is a NIGHTMARE is an understatement. read more

I have been coming here since before COVID and I have honestly had the best service from my normal cleanings to crowns that I've needed over the years. Dr. Kawamoto and Chan are a wonderful team. She walks me through the entire procedure so there aren't any surprises. Their office manager Vanessa is very professional. Doreen always has a smile when I walk into the office. And Kaylee and Linda make sure my insurance is correct. Irene is the BEST hygienist. I have recommended my entire family and work friends here since it's so close to home and right next to Target! Apparently, all they want to do is recommend expensive treatments you don't actually need that are not covered by your insurance and therefore you will pay cash. I know I was salty in my previous updated review but honestly the staff here is so kind and want to help their patients. Literally the next day after I posted my review, someone from the office called me to apologize for what happened with the mixup at my last appointment last July. She explained what happened in detail and let me know that Dr. K is with One Smile. Its a discount program for patients like me that don't have dental insurance and pay cash for their services. It definitely comes in handy and I'm really glad Dr. K offers it and is understanding of my situation. I've been coming to Aspire for 2 years and they've been treating me with nothing but respect and such kindness. Dr. K's staff is so nice and understanding. Her dental techs are so gentle. I came in this morning for my 6 month check up since I had my braces removed 2 weeks ago weeks ago, it felt great to have a proper cleaning done! Dr. K is very thorough and super knowledgeable. She came in and went over my x-rays with me. Unfortunately, I need some work done but will have to save up for it, Dr. K knows my situation and I hope to take care of it by the end of the year. I love the fact I can text with them! It's just like my orthodontist office, it makes it so easy to communicate with them. They squeezed me in since I had some scheduling issues. Everyone has great bedside manners. I know I'm in good hands here. I'm trying to keep my dental health in check since I let it slide a few years ago not being able to find a dentist I liked and now I'm trying to be more responsible, but Dr.K and her staff never shamed me and made me feel bad for not coming to see a dentist sooner. Having underlying health issues makes it that much more difficult for me so I'm trying! I really appreciate Aspire Dental working with me and the wonderful staff! Dr. Darcy and the team took care of my dental issues very well. They are professional and pay attention to all the details. One of the staff was so pressuring me about getting an Invisalign and Ortho work to fix my over-bite. But at least Aspire dental didn't over-charge me for un-necessary work. (Red Hills dental and Walnut dental in Irvine, insisted doing deep cleaning, and both places charged me about $500 each...) I do cleaning every 6 month to 1 year. They don't need deep cleaning every year people!! I was too naive... *. I almost take one star off because of this person who does scheduling (On the left side of the desk, who has shoulder-length dark hair) She is so not happy at her work. She never smiles or be kind. I thought it was only me at first, but my friend also agreed with me that she appeared to be rude. But I love talking the person who sits on the right side of the front desk (she has a very short wavy hair). She is very kind and knowledgeable with her work. I want to work with her when I go to the office. Please don't give me the mean attitude, I just sat at the dental chair for hours and paid thousands of dollars. ha! read more

I never write reviews but people deserve to be warned about this dental office. I have never had such a bad experience with a dentist. The first time I came here I had only a cleaning without issues. The dental hygienists were all very nice and did a good job. My issue was on the second appointment when it was determined I had cavities that needed to be filled. I needed to book a follow up appointment to fill the cavities. When I came for my follow up, they choose to wait until I am prepped and in the dental chair to tell me that my insurance doesn't cover ANY of the cost for the fillings. This seemed like a red flag. What is the point of dental insurance if they don't cover simple cavity fillings? I asked if they contacted my insurance and they said yes. (Turns out, they did not). I asked if my insurance partially covered the fillings and they said no. (Turns out, it did). The way they approached this situation made me feel pressured to pay for the filling out of pocket and so I did (over $1000). (Why not call me ahead of time to let me know the procedure wouldn't be covered?) Long story short, I called my insurance and they DO cover most of the cost of cavity fillings (~85%). The dentist office just neglected to follow the procedures to get the insurance reimbursement directly -- either out of neglect or more likely just wanting to charge more directly to their patients and not have to deal with the hassle of insurance. Instead, I had to spend hours of the phone with my insurance and wait months to get reimbursed. Horrible patient experience. I hope they do better with their future patients. The care was fine but I am so frustrated by their billing system. I've been dealing with the same incorrect billing issue for three years. Every time it's corrected, several months later I get a statement from their "corporate" or central billing saying I have a balance. In 2023, they sent this incorrect balance to corrections. When I first went to Aspire Dental a few years ago, everything went really well. I was so impressed that I even recommended the office to a friend. They had a great experience as well. However, since that time, things have changed a lot. Even though there have been a lot of red flags, more and more as time has gone on, I think the following story will show Dr. Kawamoto's character the most thoroughly. I was in the dentist's chair with Dr. Kawamoto's hands in my mouth when suddenly there was a friendly "Hello" from an older man followed by crying by a toddler. Dr. Kawamoto's dad who was babysitting his daughter had dropped by for a surprise visit! Apparently the toddler was shocked to seeing her mom with a mask and glasses on. Dr. Kawamoto reacted by loudly chastising her dad and then rushed with the daughter into an office somewhere. A few minutes later, she returned and the daughter and dad left. When she came back to working on my teeth, Dr. Kawamoto immediately began saying negative and mean things about her dad to the whole office, staff and patients alike. I wish my parents would have been able to babysit my kids when they were young, and I felt awkward because I felt that Dr. Kawamoto should have been grateful for her dad's help. Beyond that, I have had a few red flags with the office staff and dental advice, such as cavities getting worse and worse to the point of a root canal, two crowns, and an unsalvageable tooth because Dr. Kawamoto or her associates did not believe me or see issues when I told them about pain I was experiencing. I am not a dentist, so I didn't fault them for that until the dentists I saw for the root canal, crowns, and dead tooth told me how serious the issues were. read more

Dental work and me have this weird hate and love relationship. Ever since I was a teenager, I've always had a ton of dental work done. I have literally lost count how many crowns, root canals, and fillings I've had in my life. So needless to say, I've dread going to the dentist every time and because of the amount of work I've had done, my expectations of dentists are quite high. Since moving to California 4 years ago, I've gone to a different dentist every time for my cleaning because I haven't been able to find the right dental clinic and dentist yet. So of course now that I'm writing this review, this means I've done it! I've found the unicorn of the dentist and dental office that I actually enjoy going in to get dental work done. I should also add that at this time I threw an extra obstacle in their way being pregnant during all of this. I'm a very inquisitive person, so I know I'm not entirely easy to deal with. I ask a million questions because I want to be informed of what's going on, what's my options, what's the cost, what are the consequences of each choice, well.. you get the point. So major kudos to Dr. Kawamoto because she has been so fantastic at answering all my questions and in every step of the way while working on my teeth, she explains what she's doing and the why. Another big shoutout goes out to Chan, the dental assistant, that's worked with me multiple times now. She's been so kind, professional, and knowledgeable that I have felt so at ease when she's working with me. One example of I have of how awesome she is is during a very long session (I was getting four permanent crowns put in, one filling, and two replacement crowns), I remember that she was so on top of getting the doctor what she needed that there were no lag in between their amazing team work and while she was suctioning, she was 100% on point on it. Usually dental assistants wait until something was already drooling and then is reactive in getting to it. I swear Chan had psychic powers and knew exactly what I needed even before I knew I needed it! Lastly, I feel they also do a really great job at educating me on how to take the best care of my teeth. This makes me feel good because it means they care about their patients and want us to be healthy and happy :) read more

Visited today for my son's appointment at 12noon on a Saturday. Our dentist (Dr Darcy Kawamoto) is top notch. 10 fold better than our previous dentist! She saw us (my son) even before 12 noon! I couldn't believe it, such quick and amazing service. She is extremely kind, gentle, and made my son and I feel very comfortable. Great bedside manners! The office is top notch high tech. It's clean, beautiful and definitely modern. She knows her stuff! UCSF graduate for dental school, so you know she's top notch! Anyway, my wife and I will also have her as our primary dentist after experiencing her top notch service. She isn't pushy and doesn't pressure you to get dental work that isn't needed. This dental office-staff and dr. K. are the worst. They rip you off. Long wait time. She worked on a back tooth. I waited so long that my tooth she was working on, the numb medicine (Novocain) was wearing off. I told her and she said just hang on Im almost done. I mean c'mon this should have been a red flag! Filled it and weeks later still bothersome. She had me do a crown and charged me an arm and a leg. Told her it is not put on properly cuz every time cold water hits it, it hurts so much. She had me come in and did nitrogen test on my tooth and she touched all the tooth that I had no problem with and avoided the one that hurts. She gaslighted me! Typically....visiting the dentist's office is not something you look forward to going to, but I must say Aspire does an excellent job at squashing the idea of the dreaded dentist visit. The office staff are very friendly, and all the dental hygienists are delightful. Dr Chan and Dr Kawamoto always make me laugh, and you know that's hard when they're working on your teeth! The past year, I have been in NUMEROUS times for a cracked tooth and dental implant, but they always made it a pleasure. I just recently had 4 teeth extractions done . When doing the paper work was interrupted multiple times with different information. Felt like no one knew what they were doing. I felt the Dr. Kim- Oral surgeon kept pushing me to get bone grafts for all 4 teeth extractions but realistically needed 1. When given the laughing gas and anesthesia, no numbing gel was given before hand, felt small pain when given and voiced it, felt dismissed by the Dr.Kim and assistants. Cried the entire time of the procedure and voiced bad anxiety , but again felt dismissed. Dr. Kim and assistants kept bickering and arguing the entire time of the procedure , which increased my anxiety.Dr. Kim kept voicing how me missed prior assistant Sonia and praised her on how she had common sense, communication and step ahead. Dr. Kim stated " Sonia actually worked not like the other staff who sit around and chat all the time and she was over worked " Assistants were telling Dr. Kim in a sarcastic manner "how much he missed her " and "poor Sonia" and " well I'll text Sonia for you and tell her to come back and the rest of us can leave ". Very unprofessional especially while the patient is awake and can hear what is going on. After procedure , I had an anxiety attack and was taken care of warmly by the front staff . I did voice the unprofessionalism of Dr. Kim and assistants to the front desk staff. Please do better , this establishment gave me a traumatic experience . From start to finish, I felt like I was well taken care of and that the doctors and staff were friendly and professional. I never enjoyed going to the dentist before, but I feel more comfortable going now that I have found this office. Irene was amazing! By far the most comfortable dental experience I've had to date. I hadn't been to a dentist in a few years with COVID and life getting in the way, but Irene was incredibly attentive to my personal anxieties as well as my past concerns from previous doctors. She kept things light hearted during the checkup and spent time with me afterwards going over future suggestions/other things to look out for. The office is clean and my wife is impressed with the friendly dentist. ---- After initial exam and dental plan the practice quoted for fillings about 425 each after having our insurance info. After couple of calls to the dentistry, Insrance they say it could be 100. but verification with insurance takes 4-8 weeks. Surprised, I called couple of other dental practices and no one knows why it should take longer after my questioning. Attaching the portion of bill for future patients. Also, bill should include the normal cost, negotiated cost, ins. pay and patient pay portion clearly. Hard to get answers. BEWARE!!! Aspire Dental rips you off by fraudulently overcharging patients the patient portion calculated by the dental insurance company. Check your EOBs explanation of benefits and you will see that the patient portion is much much less than what Aspire Dental charged you. Charlotte, the woman on here who responds to reviews is not the owner. Check the California Secretary of State records. Every time I would bring up a discrepancy the "office manager" would tell me that the charge was being appealed with insurance or that it was a mistake and I would receive a refund. Lies!! I contacted Charlotte who admitted that i was overcharged and would send me a refund and nothing! They overcharged me at every appointment amounting to almost $1300.00!!! Every single time. It's very rare to see a dentist's office on Yelp with such good reviews, but Aspire Dental definitely deserves a 5 star review. In my last two years living at Riverside, I've had horrible experiences with dentists. The waits were up to two hours long. The cleanings were subpar, and I had been declined cleanings (due to needing a deep clean or the staff not having sufficient time after my two hour wait). Moving to Irvine, I was hopeful to find a decent dental office. At this point, my standards were pretty low, and I would be happy with anything less than an hour wait and to get more than a 10 minute cleaning. I made an appointment on a Saturday (so great to have a weekend appointments especially for people who work!) Aspire Dental was a pleasant surprise. The inside of the office was bright and clean. The staff was on time for my appointment, so I didn't have to wait long. Everyone was extremely friendly. The x-ray technician and hygienist chatted with me about my personal life, made sure I was comfortable, and explained each step during my appointment. I kept getting compliments about my teeth, which was surprising since my teeth are usually not that clean (maybe because I had gotten a deep clean at my last dentist appointment). The hygienist was great, and she made sure to clean my teeth well. She did some plaque cleaning for my bottom teeth even though she said my teeth were already pretty clean, so that was much appreciated. She also made sure to floss my teeth, apply fluoride, and do the other standard teeth cleaning procedures. It was funny that she thanked me for coming in to hang out since my teeth didn't need that much cleaning. That's great customer service right there to make the customer feel welcomed. The dentist, Dr. Kawamoto, was nice and took the time to answer my questions. She seemed knowledgeable, and I would feel comfortable putting my trust in her recommendations. Overall, I highly recommend Aspire Dental. The staff members are not only genuinely and unbelievably kind and friendly, but they provide quality services. read more
