Be very wary about vanson She may try to upsell you for deep cleaning gum treatments that you don't need and told me i needed a root canal with possible crown. I was having 0 teeth sensitivity nor pain. She estimated almost $3000 for my treatments with insurance. I got a 2nd opinion with a different dentist who said my teeth are fine, no need for gum cleanings or an invasive procedure, just need a couple fillings. ZERO stars for Tustin legacy dentistry, this is a horrible place, my dental work performed here was done poorly, I had returned to the office to have them fix it , I was charged more money on top of what I originally paid so they could fix what they did wrong, I keep having the same problem and I now have to spend extra time and money at a different clinic to get their work fixed. Vanson and Lucas recommend unnecessary treatment to charge expensive fees on top of the deductible co~pays and they do a sloppy job, they are so rude and passive aggressive as well as their office staff, they get mad at youwhen you ask questions about expensive fees for treatments you don't need, their office is also not very clean. Avoid this place if you want quality care. They don't care about giving quality care to their patients, all they care is to take your money. read more

They are indeed very thorough. The downfall? Fees up the wahzoo. You pay fees on top of the deductible/copays even when you first arrive just for a cleaning. You have to straight up tell them you don't wanna pay those fees (other than the usual deductible) and then they'll have to discuss before taking off the fees. I walked out with a quote of over $1,200.00 for a deep cleaning and a few fillings. No biggie, I'm not new to this. I called my old dentist and asked for their opinion. They reminded me I had done a deep cleaning that included irrigation as well as laser plaque removal not long ago and said they could do the fillings for less and suggested I ask for a regular deep cleaning and price matching of their quote for fillings. The two front teeth that are also crowns are 20 years old still going strong! This was my last visit to tustin legacy (for other work not the crowns right next to the other two that came off. If you go here know you're being ripped off. I was in shock when she tried pulling one I kept quiet. I went decades without receiving proper dental care due to different dental related traumas, and there was (and is) quite a lot to repair dentally. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They went the extra mile, and have always been gracious and kind.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And Dr. Stephens? He knows well that I am an extremely anxious patient, and has witnessed me cry on more than one occasion in his office. He has always been very encouraging, super patient, and what I appreciate the most truly is that he does his work as efficiently and quickly as he can. I had a good visit the area is nice and office is modern, however I had to reflect on a few things after my visit. I scheduled an appointment for routine cleaning and X-rays. They were very cognizant of my pregnancy and protecting me. When it came to diagnosing my "gum disease" everyone knows that pregnant women have higher blood flow to oral cavity which causes bleeding gums (normal physiological process) I was then told no cavities on X-ray but quoted "deep cleaning needed for back molars" nothing was painful nothing bothered me and my fillings were a little worn but to require a deep cleaning it was sketchy. I never had one in my life and I'm on top of my oral health. I floss as much as I can and use sensodyne. I was quoted over 700$ for a deep cleaning and denied a routine cleaning "because the doctor already diagnosed you with needing a deep cleaning" so with that said my oral health is now delayed due to not receiving a routine cleaning which would rid of contaminants on my outer teeth therefore causing more harm. So I felt this dentistry is now assuming the role of delaying my care. I don't agree with this concept and looks like it's an insurance and money issue on their part that causes them to upsell a bit. I don't know if I trust them enough to go back when my PPO insurance hits. 3/10 for staff, area and modern tech. I have been going to this dentist's office for over 5 years, and it's been going downhill ever since I started asking why they were billing more than they should. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've seen both dentists, Vanson and Stephens, and they've always been so courteous and kind. They always remember a detail about my life that I told them months ago at my last cleaning, and that's always nice of them. Great bedside manner. They're the reasons I keep going back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But the front desk is absolutely awful and keeps getting worse. I always make sure to monitor my tone and what I say to them because they're always so anxious and hyped up when they're talking to me about my insurance coverage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm not sure if they took a class on how to take advantage of patients who don't know what their insurance covers, but it doesn't work for me. They have overcharged my dependent before, which was fine because the prior manager quickly resolved it when she accepted to have a credit applied to my husband's account for his next visit. But that next visit was awful for my husband. When they checked him in, they said they didn't understand why he had a credit, even though they saw a note on his account saying he had a credit. Instead of asking around for why the credit exists, even though my husband was explaining that it was due to previous overbilling, they instead insisted on charging my husband. That just simply doesn't make sense. So then [[HIGHLIGHT]]I call them and email them to explain that the credit was provided by the manager, and the amount of attitude and condescending tone I got from them was unacceptable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't know why people work in customer service but don't want to be honest about billing. It's unethical to overcharge and overbill when a patient is getting routine care covered by dental PPO insurance. When I went in for my cleaning a month later, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Candace was showing me how much a night guard would be and inadvertently opened my profile with a pop up note that said something about how I push back about insurance and to not charge me $40 for fluoride. She quickly clicked out of the note, but I had already seen it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not only was I getting bad attitude from them, but the hositlity was confirmed when they showed me that they left a nasty note on my account. Since she was quoting me so much for a night guard, I asked if she could please submit a pre-treatment estimate to my insurance to get the correct amount. She said a night guard is not treatment. That's also incorrect. This lack of knowledge is so frustrating. She said she'd try submitting it anyway but never did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fast forward 11 months for my next cleaning that I avoided scheduling because of this poor treatment last time, and no pre-treatment estimate at any time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came in to get quoted again, and this time they explained that because my health insurance doesn't cover a night guard, my dental insurance won't either. Make it make sense. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told them that my health insurance doesn't cover dental claims, they just pay something for the office visit but nothing else, and my dental insurance covers dental claims. They got all anxious and nervous angry again, and I told them I'd just call my insurance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Of course, I call MetLife and they tell me they cover the night guard at 50%, meaning I should be paying $212 less than what they quoted me. When I called them back to explain, they said they submitted a pre-treatment estimate when I left. Sure buddy. Customer service is nonexistent here to the point where I felt sooo uncomfortable and awkward asking them questions. Not only do they upsell you like crazy but the front desk workers have a really negative attitude and seem inconvenienced to help patients. They will tell you HAVE to get a deep cleaning no matter what issue you go in for. $900 out of pocket after insurance. Terrible communication. Waited 45 minutes for a basic cleaning/exam. Receptionists did not say anything to me- no apology or explanation. I had to ask how much longer and she left to check, came back and said it would be another 15 min. I had to leave because I didn't think I'd be stuck at the dentist for hours for a basic cleaning. I had to get back to work. What's the point of an appointment if you aren't brought in til over an hour later? I would have been understanding if they communicated. But this was highly suspicious. 2nd visit: During the cleaning Dr. Vanson slyly mentioned "and you here's the fluoride rinse." I don't remember asking for this, but I assumed it was part of my normal cleaning (silly of me, but they knew I was a student and even mentioned that my parent wasn't with me this time). Then as I was leaving, I was billed $100 and told insurance doesn't cover this treatment. The treatment being a few squirts of liquid I never asked for?! This practice is highly unethical, predatory, pushy, and unprofessional. Go anywhere else or ask for a second opinion before any procedures. I checked in with a rude young men on the phone complaining about being on hold for hours. The doctor tried to push all of these procedures on me which he claimed I needed. I visit my dentist every 6 months never missing a visit. I had just gotten new insurance but my regular doctor was not part of the in network. So I took a chance with this practice since they were part of the in network. All in all this practice will try hard to rip you off. They were trying to charge me for services I denied because my insurance didn't cover it. All I wanted was a cleaning and a check up which my insurance covers. They claimed I owed them $700 for a cleaning and check up really. So I explain to them I only agreed to what my insurance covers. There response was ok you owe us $300. What part of only what my insurance covers did you not understand. Again all the con artist doctor did was a check up and cleaning. I knew I had nothing out of pocket to pay them my insurance covers it. The doctor was kind of a punk being rough with the procedure he had heavy hands which made it very uncomfortable when he was doing my cleaning. I should've taken these reviews more seriously. So upset. This is my 2nd visit after spending $700 out of insurance costs (having double insurances last time) of dental work that they pushed onto me When I came in when they greeted me they said they would go over treatment and payments before they even saw my teeth and this was for a routine cleaning. This showed me from that start they were going to push procedures onto me. I do t make a lot of money and was trying to get a routine cleaning. They ended up quoting me of $1500 of services not covered by insurance - I pushed back and ending up paying $500. I also left the office my gums still bleeding and sore With my new job I am getting a new insurance and will most likely go to a different dentist. read more

Can't say enough good things about Dr Vanson's practice. Originally signed up when her office opened because of proximity to home, but have continued on because of Dr Vanson and her staff's excellent care. Note: I hate going to the dentist (who doesn't??) but my blood pressure literally skyrockets when I think about getting my teeth cleaned. But her office makes the process a lot less stressful, talking me through the cleaning process to talk me down from the ceiling. During my last visit, I heard the dreaded term, "deep cleaning." Dread rose within primitive fear centers of my brain, recalling the hours of slack jawed, numb drooling after shrill, unpleasant periodontal maintenance. But Dr Vanson's office uses numbing GEL not injections, and she was so kind and patient through the cleaning that it was over before I knew it and I could sweep the dental PTSD under the rug. This dentist is a scam! They try to exaggerate any minor issue you have and blow it up into a major issue so they can suggest services and maximize their profit. For example, they told me I have periodontal disease which I was shocked by because my teeth look and feel healthy. I've been to two other dentists since in order to get second and third opinions and they've both confirmed my gut feeling that my teeth were actually fine with no issues! They also softly coerced me into getting "fluoride" wash in order to help with my non-existent periodontitis. It was $250 for basically a few squeezes of listerine in my teeth! They took a problem I didn't have and used manipulative language to guilt-trip me into buying services I don't need! AVOID TUSTIN LEGACY DENTISTRY. They are a DISHONEST business who will have NO integrity when it comes to their practices in order to scam money out of their patients. Totally surreal experience. I hate writing negative reviews, but this place is totally insincere in how they conduct business. I went to Tustin Legacy based on the great reviews I saw and glossed over the negative experiences that mentioned customer service and billing issues. I really wish I had given them a more serious look. The facility is really nice - modern and clean and all the latest technology. This should make one thing clear to you - they've got A LOT of overhead. Naturally, the primary concern of any business should be to make money, but it seems to be the ONLY concern at Tustin Legacy. At first, we went over the standard questionnaire. Everyone was all smiles as we did the preliminary inspection. Then the dentist pushed a deep cleaning and bounced out while her assistant began calculating costs. No reasoning given, and that immediately broke down trust. It's my mouth and you're a brand new dentist...let's get to know each other first before you move in. I don't know if they think their potential clients are too dumb to understand, but that's what comes across in how they communicate. It was actually embarrassing how hard they started pushing a deep cleaning without a thorough explanation. Basically "pay the bill before you start thinking about it too much." It's just a gross feeling to be on the receiving end of upselling. The smiles and cheery demeanor from earlier were totally saccharine, because as soon as I expressed hesitancy about the long list of proposed services, the friendliness was gone. Uh, no thanks, guys. Just a normal cleaning. Just expressing that created a tangible awkwardness in the room. They clearly aren't used to people expressing a contrary opinion. Here's the thing they want to get across to you: You're an idiot who doesn't know anything and we don't have time to explain this to you. Also, what you want is irrelevant because we need to upsell to keep up with our overhead. Like I said earlier, surreal. I've never experienced customer service this disingenuous in a medical setting, ever. This practice has so much potential, but it's unbelievable how low of a priority customer service and genuine connection is. I get the pressures of running a business, but financial concerns aren't an excuse for treating your potential clients like dumb cattle. The lone bright spot of my visit was Nicole. Office staff is very pushy with products and appointments. This is a profit type of business. The care and quality is questionable when being told you need certain procedures but aren't sure if it's just because they want to upsell you or if you really need it. A deep cleaning should not cost $800 yet this seems to be a common charge for a deep cleaning here at this office. I would NOT recommend this office for any dental procedures or work. It felt like they just wanted to maximize profit as opposed to give you proper care. read more
