We went after visiting the Christmas market at city hall, which is only a short walk away. They really go all out with their Christmas decor, which was much appreciated. They also have cozy indoor seating with heaters. You scan a QR code to place your food order, and there's no servers involved, but there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, just as an fyi. This place is very cute. Great for hanging out with friends. They have a few bars and also food. Its dog friendly so you will see a bunch of people with their pups. The whole place is outside and the tables are on the ground (dirt)... I mention it because I had heels on that day and it was not the ideal footwear for this place. Lol. Unbelievably awful experience. Friend from Puerto Rico (mind you, a US territory) was denied and required to have a US passport (which, you do not need to enter the US, fyi). Both the manager and bouncer were unbelievably rude - telling us to "let them speak" as they yelled and spoke over us, as consumers - and cursed us out as we left. Genuinely, a bar I used to enjoy, and now one I will never EVER return to by their casual racism over our group. Note: the manager said that PR was "not a part of the US", and also told us to refer to the website to see what forms of ID are acceptable. When we asked if credit card was acceptable for second form, she said absolutely not (which is different from, quite literally, every bar I've ever been to); then after being rudely pushed away, she told us that a PR ID is not accepted at any bars under this ownership. I always pass this place when I'm in Rittenhouse, and finally decided to go the other day. The pretzel bites are amazing. I'm not a big pretzel person but these were GREAT! Also tried the cheesesteak which was also amazing. Inside there is community seating, if you're coming with a did group I'd recommend getting there earlier to find an open table. At each bench there's a QR code to scan and a server brings the food right to your table. You can also pay on your phone which is plus. There's an automatic 20% gratuity added to all bills just fyi. When you walk in there is a snow machine, so you are instantly put in the holiday spirit!! There are lots of spot for photo-ops and Instagrammable moments. I heard this place used to be a building that was burned down during the George Floyd riots and came back as this beer garden. The bathrooms are in trailers, but nice and drinks and food are both served out of trucks. There are tons of picnic style tables, both covered and uncovered. There is a small TV, but they had the audio on for the Monday Night Football game. My friends and I met up here after not seeing each other for awhile and had a great time! The environment was conducive to talking as it was open air so not too loud even though there was a decent amount of other people there. the service at the bar was great and everything was reasonably priced. You ordered food through a QR code on the table and they bring it out to you. Only upgrade would be to have more and bigger TVs. read more

Walnut garden was actually a super fun surprise. I've passed by this beer garden multiple times and now that the weather is warm, I was able to finally stop by for some shade and drinks. It was the middle of the day too so I paused my shopping for a bite. I got the cold sesame noodles as well as the fried cheese bites along with a cheesesteak. I was so surprised at how good everything was! I feel like beer garden food is usually just something that hits the spot and doesn't have to be great, but the food was actually really, really good. The noodles were flavorful and delicious and the udon they used was also the perfect texture. The cheesesteak was solid and also equally delicious. It was also nice to see a few offerings other than just simply burgers. We also each got I think a sangria. I can't remember exactly but they were excellent. Ordering was so convenient and everything came out pretty quickly. There were plenty of tables everywhere both outside in the full sun or under their covered area, and the trailer bathrooms were actually also not that bad and surprisingly clean. I would absolutely come here again, and for sure even recommend this for larger groups. I want to preface by saying we had a great time as a family of 5 at the walnut garden. The drinks were great, the playground was great, and we had for the most part a great time. Unfortunately, Mel the manager was very rude and unnecessarily harsh to me, and my kids. She was frustrated about our kids climbing on the play structure which we rectified very quickly. We understand rules and expect our kids to abide by them. But then she got frustrated to the point of kicking us out because my kids had picked up a few leaves off the ground. She claims she spoke to us multiple times when she in fact maybe spoke to us once. We are still unclear what her dissatisfication came from about the leaves. But the remainder of the staff apologized profusely for her overreaction . Stating things like "please write a review about her", and "we are really sorry for her behavior". It's sad because it is a haven for families with kids and young professionals alike but Mel the manager was in fact a huge detractor both for the staff and for the clientele. Maybe in this world, we need less Mel and more of the bouncers, bartenders, and the vibe that is walnut garden. Hopefully that will be the case read more

I've been here twice now and both times have been really nice. I love the ambiance. It's like a hidden urban garden with a wall showing some graffiti and the rest the garden. There was a nice little breeze and the sun was shining both days. It kinda makes you forget you're in Philly a little. I'm a burger guy and the sweetness of the pepper jam mixed with the garlic mayo was tasty. The creamy sesame dressing on the noodles made the dish for sure and while I wasn't a fan of the avocado chimichurri the rest of the roasted cauliflower sandwich was good. While the food was good, I think what put this place at a 5 for me was the place itself and the staff. They know their stuff, move fast and are very hospitable. read more

Walnut garden is tucked in right in between buildings and the aesthetic is very calming and just a great place to chill. If you can't tell I love being outdoors especially when the weather is so hot. They have a spot to grab drinks and the bartenders are very fast. They have a selection of wine, craft beer, and cocktails. I got the hibiscus lemonade which was the perfect combination of sweet and refreshing. For food, you just have to scan the QRS on the table and they will bring it out. We got the Chicken Karage, and I thought it was okay; nothing too special and the breading felt soggy. But that being said this is a great place to grab drinks and chill with friends or a cute date. I tried the flying melon which has Red Bull which I got for a pick me up. Secondly, the food menu goes beyond the typical bar food with Asian inspired selections from karaage chicken to udon noodles. You order online by scanning the QR code on the table. The food came out so quick but I can see it slowing down if the place was packed. My friends and I were racially profiled. 5 minutes after confirming we were there for a private event, we were approached and questioned as to why we were there and who we were there to see. After a horribly embarrassing ordeal, we went to management with our concerns only to find out they directed the questioning. Instead of apologizing, the manager defended his decision to have us questioned. The only difference between us and the rest of the guests is that we were the only 3 non white people present. 0/10 recommend. Do not come here if you are a person of color. read more

This is a tourist trap. The food is less than edible. The servers and the door staff make you feel as if they are doing you a favor when they server you. This location has had a least seven (7) City of Philadelphia code violation this summer (2023).
