I had work done on two vehicles. First off, the loaner program made the repair costs much more palatable. They stand by their work and even paid for my tow when a tough repair failed. I don't like to pay for replacement parts from the dealer (which appears to be the rule in this area of Maryland) but in this case it worked to my benefit. As for inspections, I have heard the same story about just about every repair shop. While I appreciate the level of scrutiny, it appears like a one time chance to obtain a lot of work. Coming from a neighboring state , I was naive as far as the costs and the 30 day requirement for findings to be resolved. A lesson learned the hard way. I came here 2 years ago, had the best experience.everyone was so polite! this year I came back I had gave them some time so I call them 3 days later to see if I am cover by my warranty to get my car fixed and I didn't catch her name but ask for updates with my car she got really smart and said " what do you want that was very rude! James is at the front desk never called or gave me any updates, my car was there for weeks, He saying that my warranty should have called me but my car IS AT YALL SHOP, y'all have the details but James act like he don't understand things and really don't know how to talk to customers he is very rude ! I couldn't get it fix so I wanted it back to my house, So I TOLD THEM A DAY BEFORE that the tow truck is coming in the morning, I called James and I told him is my car ready and clear for the tow truck to get it and he said YES! So they waste the tow truck money and time because they throw Snow and and it freeze into ice on me car and around it and I had to call another one and I gave them some time told them to call me when I they are done so I can get another tow truck! So I called back James was like we been clear the ice off your car and I told him why u didn't say another, THEN HE JUST START LAUGHING THEN THEY THOUGHT I WOULD NOT KNOW BUT IS A BIG DENT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR THAT THEY DAMAGE! This place is super convenient. Free shuttle or loaner if needed. Normally we go to independent auto in glen burnie/pasadena which is a hike and tough to arrange. I decided to give them a chance on something more serious than a state inspection. I knew they were slightly more expensive than some other places- 139/hr vs 100. Based on past research I know alignments are in the 150 range for many other shops. Here it was 250! Yowza! No print out showing that they actually did anything either. To make matters worse, their print outs don't include how long things took. It says labor amount, not time worked on the car. Meaning they can pretty easily pad their bill and you not really realize it. One of the things I had them do was install a protector for my catalytic converter. I was going to do it, but figured the process would go much quicker using a lift vs me in my driveway. I figured an hour tops. Based on the bill, it took closer to 2 1/2 hours! I could have done the job in that amount of time. I couldn't believe when my total came to almost 650. I thought it was a mistake from the last person who checked out. I was expect 300, 350 max! Perhaps the worst infraction, the brakes were making noises when reversing. I pointed this out and asked them to look into it. I was told everything looked fine. Fast forward less than 2 months later and I decide to take a look myself. The brakes were almost completely worn to the point where it would be dangerous to drive. How anyone could look at them and say they were fine is beyond me. And no it wouldn't change enough to do from ok to that level. They totally dropped the ball! read more

Trust these reviews! The good: They will fix your vehicle. They are courteous (they will use lube). They offer a "free" shuttle service. The bad: You will surely pay and likely more than you will anywhere else! If I had read yelp reviews ahead of time I would have saved myself a lot of money. State inspection: In Maryland state inspections are a hustle anyways but these guys are going to likely find something that doesn't pass and once you are committed to the state inspection process you are essentially at their mercy. These guys will find something wrong. Diagnostic: If you take your vehicle here for any diagnostic regardless if it's a full cap not closed good you are hit for the $240. So take advantage of the free and courteous stuff because you are paying for it regardless. They see $240 as soon as you pull up! read more

STATE INSPECTION SCAMMERS They will load up you inspection with all kids of repairs that you don't need. When I confronted them and asked them to justify their findings, they got defensive. When I replaced some of the parts that they suggested, I noticed that all of them were good. This is when I stopped and took the car elsewhere for e new state inspection, where it easily passed. I took said parts back to their shop and asked them to show me how the parts (motor mounts) could possibly be bad, they simply said that I was entitled to my opinion. My car broke down while visiting family on the eastern shore on a Saturday. We don't know of a repair shop in that area and we needed to have the work done close to our home. We started calling places we knew of in the Odenton/Severn area and most places were closed. We decided on Walt Eger's because of their reputation in the area. We left a voicemail message and received a call back in about 15 min from the owner of Walt Eger's. He offered to arrange a tow but we had AAA so we had that covered. He assured us it would be on their Monday morning schedule. By 10am Monday they had an estimate for repairs and it was finished the next day. With the amount of work they faced, we expected the repairs to take longer. The price was a bit higher then we expected but when we checked prices, they were aligned with a national average. The shop is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. My husband got a bit upset when he learned the price but once we talked it over, we decided to go thru with the repairs. Our previous mechanic retired recently and we've needed to locate a honest and reliable repair shop. I feel confident that Walt Eger's will have our future business for auto repair. I brought in my car for a failed emissions test. They upselled me on a few other services as well. I left the car overnight. When the repairs were done, I got a call saying my starter had suddenly burned out, right there in the shop! (The starter had been working flawlessly before that). I became very suspicious, but what could I do? My car was now disabled unless I paid them to fix it. When I arrived to pick it up, I tried getting them to offer some sort of compromise, but they became very defensive and arrogant. It was just "bad timing", they said. To me it looked like a classic car repair scam, and they said and did nothing to convince me otherwise. I ended up paying an extra $600 ransom to get my car back. The next day I took the old starter to another mechanic for an opinion. He said yes, the starter was bad, and no, there was no way it just "suddenly broke" in the shop. So was it just a million to one coincidence, or a shady car repair scam? I can't prove it one way or the other. But there's no reason why YOU should take the risk. They made me sit at the sales desk while they evaluated the problem, kinda like a sleezy used car dealership trying to sell unnecessary work. Finally got the quote, then left. (First mistake- the guy was probably getting a kick back from Walter Eger). Not ONLY did they require work that another inspection location (that we later went to) did not require; but they offered repeatedly to buy the car for 1/2 of what it was worth. Had the dash "blazing Yellow" on the rav, and knew I had to get it fixed before getting emissions testing to pass. Took it and it was happily surprised to see it was an O2 sensor. They got me in fast and turned it around. Passed emissions. They let me know about future repairs and when they should be scheduled. Very pleased with the process and people here. read more

Definitely my new garage! They were recommended to my by a co-worker and I'm so happy I went with them. The guys were professional from start to finish, did an awesome job with my Jeep (Jeepus) - even fixing things in hours that the Jeep-Chrysler dealership couldn't in days - and were not ridiculously priced. I felt like they were up front and honest with everything so I never got an uneasy feeling. One of my pet peeves with auto mechanics is that they get my Jeep dirty and they hot rod it...both of which Walt Eger's boys DID NOT do!!! Love it! Called and made arrangements to bring my car in. Told them the TWO problems I was having and asked them to check them out. They took it upon themselves to check the whole car out and charged me two hundred dollars before they would release the car back to me. I have used them over the years and told them I never had to pay a fee to get my car checked. They said it was because I wasn't having the over $5,000 worth of work done that they found. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and will never use them again. When the original owner had the business (which it is named for) a problem like this would never have occurred. I had a huge problem with my 2014 Jeep Cherokees's transmission. Since I had purchased it used, I was unaware of recall issues on that vehicle. Without warning my transmission just seemed to seize up. I was able to get it to Walt Eger's Service Center in Severn on a Tuesday. By the following day, they were able to diagnose the problem and let me know that it was a recall item that the manufacturer was going to resolve. While there I had a few other issues taken care of at my request. On the following Tuesday, I had my vehicle back and it feels and drives like a brand new car. Why I still go to the dealership for service. Yeah, might pay a little more, but I trust it will be done right. My truck had a noise in the engine and the dealer said they had to take it apart to be sure, but thought it was the camshaft and lifters. I saw commercials for Walt's and decided to see what they would charge if I got the factory OEM parts. Guy on the phone blew me off, said they wouldn't accept my parts and would only offer a remanufactured Jasper engine. I didn't want to put an engine in and not a Jasper. Emailed Walt Eger Service Center and asked how much an Oil Change would be if I supplied my own oil and filter. I got a reply back that it would be $21.99. I made an appointment and got the oil change. I was handed a bill for 43.99. I told them I was told it would be 21.99. The guy acted like he was doing me a favor by lowering cost to 25.00. While he was processing the charge I found the email that stated 21.99. He ignored me. I completed my transaction and left. Disappointed, called to schedule a visit Monday 9/21. I was told they could look at my car Wednesday 9/23, I called again Tuesday to let them know I would not be in until 1 pm I left work to make it there. When I arrived the man at the desk said it would be an hour before anyone could even look at it. Why schedule an appointment if you can't do it? He wasn't helpful he basically said I would need to leave my car. I'm sorry not everyone has the luxury of being able to just leave their car. I know one persons behavior shouldn't influence my actions but in this case, I live in Arnold and to take my car to Severn to Walt Eger's says a lot but next time I will stick to the Arnold/Annapolis area for my car repairs. Terrible customer service. Had my vehicle there for over 20 days to get Maryland inspected and they never did it. I've had some issues with my power steering on our Nissan, so I took it in to Walt Eger's Service Center. We used them a few months ago and they were very fair. (I know because I always call my brother-in-law who is a mechanic to ask before I approve any work.) ... and I love that they will shuttle you to and from the shop if you need, because I have kids and can't sit in a shop and wait all day. After 24 hours of them having my car without any contact as to what work would be done, I called them for a third time to see if I could get the diagnostic and pricing update. I was told they knew it needed a new power steering rack and a power steering hose... but they would call me back on the price... so I called my sister to find out what to expect for that kind of repair. She told me just over a thousand, ... When Walt Eger's called me back they quoted me $1,800! I told them I would let them know. I called All Pro Complete Car Care in Laurel and told them what I needed and asked what they would charge... and I got a preliminary quote of $1400, so of course I called Walt Eger and told them I was going to do the work somewhere else. They did drive my car back to me which is really, really cool, and they are super friendly so that's why I'm giving 3 stars. I took my car to All Pro today and they called me after 5 hours with great news. The phone call went like this, "Hi-ya Nicole, this is Nick from All Pro, you know those commercials 'you can save big money' well, you're going to be really happy, because you're going to save big money! The part you were told you needed, the power steering rack? You don't need that! You only need a power steering hose because yours is leaking, and it's all ready! We finished the work! It'll be $500." Umm!!! What!!?? Moral of the story? Always get a second opinion! Find a mechanic friend to help you if you know nothing about cars, and listen to your friends when they tell you they have an awesome car shop!! Ps... you should go to All Pro Brakes and Mufflers in Laurel... Honest, they get the job done, and with fair prices. read more

Our family's used Walt's for years and while pricey we've never had a problem with the work. Recently however, we took in a car for an alternator. Just an alternator. When they called to say the car was ready they had taken it upon themselves to rotate the tires (which were less than 3 months old) and change the oil. Both services were performed without any consent. No phone call or inquiry if we wanted those done. When picking up the vehicle we were told the tires were wearing uneven so they decided to rotate them; when we told them the tires were new and had no wear they agreed to remove that charge. When we asked about the oil change we had not asked for, they said the oil light was on so they just decided to change it. Had they called we could have told them the oil light has been broken for years and the car was not due for an oil change. Be careful and make sure you explicitly explain they are not to decide what to do with your car without your consent. If you chose to go to Walt's, examine the bill closely for unauthorized repairs. read more

Mike, the technician who worked on it, really knows his way around old cars. He tuned it up, fixed numerous safety issues, and the car runs like a top! Walt Eager Service Center touts a 36/36,000 warranty on their work and they mean it! I had brake problems on my truck and they replaced the rotors, calipers and pads. A year later I started having the same problems. I took it back and they serviced it at no charge. Several weeks later the problem resurfaced. They replaced all the parts at no charge with no hassle. They took the lead on this. Also, I received a followup call to make sure all was ok. This is my go to service center. read more

Just saw a commercial for this place and all I could do is laugh. I took my car there about 3 months ago cause my check engine light was in and it kept stalling out. When they were "done" they told me I needed to bring it back so they can run another diagnostic on it. They said they fixed what they could now and would see what else needed to be done. Well the check engine light was still on and it kept stalling out. So the $1200 I paid for them to fix the problem was an absolute waste. I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. If I could give zero stars I would. I had an oil change about a week and a half or so ago at Walt Eger's. The service was completed in a timely manner and was reasonably priced. I was satisfied. A few days later I started noticing what I initially thought was a gasoline smell. Thinking that it was a gas leak I took it to Bob Bell's Hyundai dealership hoping it was under warranty. After some inspection I was informed that my oil cap had not been put on correctly and that the smell I had been smelling was not gasoline but oil that had begun covering my engine burning off. I had to pay a small fee to get it cleaned and had to have my oil topped off at the dealership. It was a cheap mistake luckily, but the fact that at a mechanic someone didn't have the attention to detail to put the oil cap on is something I can't look past. I can say with 100% certainty that I will never use Walt Eger's again. read more

I have been going there for about 10 years. This is the second time that they did not have my car ready when promised. The first time was having issues find the part as my car is a 2004. But this time they ordered the part on a Thursday and I dropped my car off on Sunday night to be worked on on Monday or Tuesday. I called on Monday twice to find out my car was not ready (the second one of my calls they were about to call me - at 5:00PM). On Tuesday I had to call twice myself to check the status, even though I was promised a return call after my first call. If they couldn't get to it until Wednesday that is what I should have been told. I am picking up my car unfixed never to come back. What they do is fix the cars that people are waiting for or who have loaner cars. This has happened to my neighbor also, they had his for a week for 8 hours worth of work. read more

Work was done on my car and seems to be fine. However they took my car through a car wash without my consent and my car was damaged in the process. My antenna was destroyed, there is a huge/deep scratch on one of my windows, and 2 small paint scratches on the same side as the window. They have refused to compensate for this and are passing the blame to the car wash place they use, even though I never authorized them to take my car there. It has been 2 weeks now and several phone calls, the only thing I get out of Mike is they didn't damage the car so it's not their fault the car wash did the damage so they claim they are not liable. I am awaiting a call from the owner, which I doubt will ever come. Mike also told me they did me a favor and went out of their way to get my car clean, completely negating the fact it resulted in damage to my car. Things work here as they should...appointments are easily arranged and they will always do their best to deal with my schedule. Our experience with Walt Eger has to fall in the category of a "mixed" review, at best. We dropped off our very well-maintained '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Oct. - 2016) to try and fix a very unusual stalling problem, where at regular acceleration, the vehicle would seemingly lose all power, and would typically require that you shift into neutral, and restart the vehicle - which would aggravatingly always promptly restart (as if there had never been a problem). After nine days we got the vehicle back with a diagnosis of a throttle body problem (now fixed), at a cost of $600. Unfortunately, the problem was not fixed. To their credit Walt Eger and their staff proceeded to work on our Jeep for another 61 days over the next six months, to make the situation right - without charging us anything additional. On the face that sounds admirable, but I think we estimated my wife missed more than 30 days of work (+$5K of wages) over that period of time, so I'm not sure we were recipients of a real bargain. Admittedly, this was a very intermittent problem that was hard to pin down through the regular diagnostic process. At right around Day 30 in the shop, I stopped by and asked if the staff had done any research, as I had found online - that these model Jeeps had a history of faulty camshaft and/or crankshaft sensors resulting in intermittent power loss. They hadn't. Perhaps by coincidence, within a day or so the shop determined that the crankshaft sensor could be the problem. However, finding a compatible crankshaft sensor for a +20 year old vehicle proved to be a challenge - with at least three sensors being installed (and de-installed due to incompatibility) over the next 3-4 months. In Month 7, I finally suggested that the incompatibility problem could probably be solved by locating a salvage Jeep crankshaft sensor. In less than five days one was located (Cost: $7) and installed (April - 2017) and worked fine (and continues to work fine). As I said on the front end - a mixed review. I thought the original cost/charge was fine (and we were never charged another dime), but I thought that 70 days to fix a problem that I ended up having to point them to, might have a little been excessive - and all for $7 part. The shop gets extra points for Honesty/Integrity, but in the future they've got to do more to raise their game in the Timeliness and Competence/Skill categories. read more
