Wells Automotive knew what was wrong with my wife's car,but, didn't fix it. They strung her along and fixed everything EXCEPT the issue. Just took her money for months. She told them she was going on a cross country trip for a funeral...she broke down halfway. It was a spark plug. If wells had given her a tune up, Or cared, She would be fine right now. But, no. She missed an important family function because the greedy liars at Wells lied to her and cheated us. Sold our house the other day. Were going to celebrate somewhere but the car wouldn't start, as if the battery had been drained. We carry an emergency battery pack for this eventuality, so we were able to start the vehicle and visit a well-rated nearby repair shop, Wells Automotive. Juanita took care of us, getting a new battery installed, a long-overdue change of oil (synthetic, of course), and a tire rotation in relatively short order. We went home, picked up a couple great pizzas from the newly opened Angeli's around the corner from our apartment, and celebrated with champagne that evening. Wife took our truck in for breaks in the rear. Of course all the rotors needed to be replaced not just the rear ones. Said they were all warped. Hmm and "the technician found that the front strut was broken and leaking and need to replace both of them as well as a front end alignment". This is the worst mechanic experience I've ever had. Charged $3000 to "fix" my car only for it to have the same problem 1 month later - when I brought it back I was told it would be another $4000. After getting a second opinion, they did the original work wrong and diagnosed the secondary problem incorrectly to try to get more $$$ out of me. Do not go here, they will screw you over, take your money, and leave you with a mess. read more

LOVE WELLS! I took my moms car in with the generic knocking complaint and they fixed the safety guard and did a full inspection for under $200! Not to mention they got me in quick and my car was done and ready to go in half a day. Took my 2010 Malibu about a month ago and had $3900 of work done. The car sounds like it's going to fall apart. Took it back and they did nothing to fix the issues. If there were zero stars that would be my rating. When we left the lot around closing time I turned the wheel and it made a very alarming noise. The owner took it back in the service area but nothing changed. Something was installed incorrectly and my wallet is still feeling the pain. Ray the owner contacted me almost immediately and we arranged for service. I guess 3 is the charm because this is our 3rd visit. The car drove exceptionally well on the ride home today (2/24/21). I am writing another review for Wells Automotive. I like this firm so much because I TRUST the personnel for honest assessments and quality work. My 2013 Subaru has about 166,000 miles and, following Subaru's guidance, I keep up the maintenance on this car, (it's the only car my Wife and I own in an effort to control operating and Insurance costs). The personnel are attentive to my needs and I feel that their pricing is both transparent and fair. Located off of Ritchie Highway in the Glen Burnie metro area, it is easily accessed from I-695 and points North & South on Ritchie Highway. My dealing with Subaru dealerships were, overall, disappointing: expensive, inconvenient, and workmanship was questionable. I am not an auto mechanic, so, again, I rely heavily on my Subaru manual that lays out maintenance tasks and milage targets. I copy this when meeting with Well's staff to review what should be addressed once I reach a particular milage target. So far, this has worked exceptionally well in understanding when and what needs to be done. I also discuss with the staff what the repair entails. I obtain an estimate of the cost prior to commencing the work. If I am unsure what exactly is involved or the nature of the cost, the staff explains what and why the service is necessary. If some work can be deferred, they inform me of this fact, as well. I highly recommend Wells Automotive if you need or are looking for a trust-worthy auto mechanic. Joseph M. read more

Hmmm been thinking about reviewing them for a while and after my last visit it was time to post feedback. I found Wells on yelp after moving into the area. My Ford Escape is getting up in mileage so I thought it best to be proactive and get a full inspection to see if I have any trouble spots to address. I took it in and was the very first person there at 7:30 when they opened. They said it would only take a hour so I decided to wait. Well an hour went by and my car didn't move from the parking lot...fast forward 3+ hours it was finally done. Mind you nobody came in that morning after me. Ok I can deal with a little wait no problem especially if they are busy but it didn't seem like it. I get the full report and no major issues but a few items I thought best to address. Fast forward a few weeks, I take it in to have it serviced for one of the issues. I wasn't going to wait this time but get a call half way thru stating I have a leaking water pump. They gave me a quote and wanted to know if I want that replaced too. I decided to call around to a few other 5 star mechanics first and received 2 quotes at half the price so I held off. I believe and trust they do good work and are solid mechanics. However, I decided it best to give another mechanic a try after that. I assumed they would have caught that issue on the complete inspection a few weeks earlier! read more

Horrible experience for me. If I could give them negative stars I would. I am a mechanic myself. Not professionally. But, I'm 50 years old and have been working on cars, motorcycles, small engines and boats much of my life. I've pulled and replaced engines and transmissions and completed all sorts of jobs. I had difficulty troubleshooting some tricky electrical/module/computer issues on my 2010 Dodge Journey. I searched around for a shop that specializes in troubleshooting these types of problems. I don't own the expensive diagnostic equipment that talks to the modules and computer. Although after this experience I'll probably go ahead and buy one. I came in with a written description of the car problems and what was already done in trying to fix them. Without even mentioning fixing anything, Chris told me it would cost $350 to diagnose the issues. $150 to check out the airbag light and horn, and traction control lights. Another $150 to check out the drivers power window and mirror control, and another $50 to inspect the front brakes. Any work done would be additional money. For the airbag and horn issue, I found through research a very common problem is the clockspring in the steering wheel under the airbag. Therefore, I ordered a new one and went to the junkyard and found one. I replaced the clockspring with the one I'd gotten from the junkyard. Didn't fix the problem. For the driver's door window and switch, I replaced the motor, module and switch with new parts. Didn't fix the problem either. Therefore, I figured I'd take the car to some professionals. They should be able to quickly track it down. They do this professionally. The problem must be wiring or connection or computer problem somewhere. Chris told me I needed a new clockspring at a cost of $500 just for the part, and a new window switch at a cost of $350 just for the part. I'm dead serious. Quotes didn't include installation. I told them I'd already replaced those parts. I even had a brand new switch in addition to the original switch in the car and they were welcome to try it. I also had the original clockspring in the car in addition to the used one I installed. And, I have the new one in my possession at home they were welcome to try. Regardless, I explained those things weren't the problem. I'd already tried that and explained this coming in the door both verbally and in writing. They were welcome to try the other parts I'd already bought. Or they could try new ones at their expense if they installed them and it didn't fix the problem (as I knew it wouldn't) Chris was having none of it. The only thing he seemingly wanted to discuss was running up the bill. He also argued with me that the original and new window and mirror switch I bought wasn't the correct part. But, it is the correct part and this is something that can easily be checked. Furthermore, let me give you some perspective. Right now on www.dodgeparts.com the correct window switch (I know its correct because I entered the car's VIN and the pictured item is identical to the original part) for this car can be bought for $94.57. Again, Chris wanted to charge me $350 for the exact same part plus who knows how much to install it, which is literally just plugging in two connectors. I already had the door panel disassembled. The clockspring on the same site can be bought for $269.50. Wells wanted to charge me $500 including tax for it, plus $145.46 to install, which would take a maximum of 10 minutes. I've done it myself. This was just the first place I searched. The parts can be found even cheaper elsewhere. Oh yeah, Chris also wanted to charge me $725.72 to replace my front brake calipers. I just bought a set of not only front brake calipers, but also rotors, pads and installation hardware for a total of $185. I'm not kidding. I'll install them myself. I told Chris he was absurd and that I was coming to pickup my vehicle immediately. I came in and paid the $350 for nothing and took my car home. I don't know if this was intentional gouging or ineptitude. Regardless, I will never spend another penny with them. Right now I'm shopping for one of those fancy diagnostic computers. read more

Made an appointment for 7:30 AM on a Monday for a state inspection. I dropped the car off the night before. I called at 11:00 AM for an update and they said it was next and they would call me when it's done. At 3:00 PM I receive a call that it was completed. I read the reviews and it seemed like a good small business to support outside of a big dealership. I'm new to Maryland and not sure how long inspections typically take, but I wasn't expecting that length of time. This was my second time trying this shop and had a similar time frame with both. Well,overall they seem like a nice mechanic shop. I recieved great costumer service in shop,they promptly called me when my car was finished, and I even recieved a lovely card in my mailbox from them,saying thanks for using them. So why only 3 stars? When they called me about my car,they told me it would cost over $500 to fix it. However,when I arrived in the shop and looked at the estimate,which includes the labor cost, parts,and even the tax, it was under $500. So where was the extra $100 coming from? A family business with daughters and sons. Went here for inspection after finding them on yelp and going to another shop closer to my house. The inspecton cost more than other places but there was no second charge for inspection and I felt like I received a fair inspection compared to the first shop. I have had to wait quite a while with appointments. They have automatic reminders, courtesy notes, and are very professional. I had a shaking in the front end and they were honest and said I only needed weights on the tires. I am a happy custumer. One customer came in while I was at the shop with her car not starting and they diagnosed it as a loose battery wire and fixed the problem at no charge. I hate to write this review, but after numerous talks with my friends who are inclined in the automotive field, I feel as though they overcharged for a full brake line repair. I get that it's a labor intensive job, but $1700? Really? I've taken my car here a number of times (although I prefer Mike's by Arundel Mills because they offer a military discount) and I've never had an issue, but the most recent visit for my wife's car has made me reconsider returning here. She has told me on several occasions that the woman who works at the front desk is rude to her. Once again, I've spoken to the same woman and she was nothing but friendly to me. I'm super torn because of their close proximity to our house, but this experience certainly hasn't been the greatest. read more

We just moved back to the area and of course, our Toyota Rav 4 conked out in the Walmart parking lot. Since I had no idea of where to find an honest mechanic, I asked my parents. They recommended Wells Automotive and I'm SO glad they did. I was unsure what actually went wrong so I loved the fact that the mechanic took his time and chased the problem back to the source. Long story short, they were so precise figuring out what happened and it ended up being a combination of some alternator and electric issues. They were great and kept us informed of the problems they found and the repair costs for each. The repairs ended up being 1500 (we had a tire issue fixed as well) which was a very fair price for the work done. The best part was that the mechanic didn't actually need to replace one of the items and it was put onto our bill. Not even aware of what happened, we got a call and REFUND for the 350$, I guarantee there aren't many mechanics that would have done that, since we had NO idea we wouldn't have been the wiser. I took my car in for a clicking noise in the right front wheel whenever it was torqued in forward or reverse direction. I also did much research on the likely cause (loose axel nut) and personally explained it to the mechanic. I then received a call back saying the cause was the motor mounts, and it would cost $2200 dollars to fix. I then called the dealer (JBA) to see what new motor mounts would cost and they said $1800. I also doubted the Well's diagnosis as the cause of the problem and took it to JBA for a second opinion. JBA confirmed loose axel nut, and simply retorqued it to eliminate the problem. I spoke with the Wells owner and to his credit he reimbursed the diagnostic fee and apologized for the incorrect diagnosis. I may need new engine mounts some day but at this point there are no symptoms being caused by them. read more

They had my truck done in 1 day and at half the price of any franchise shop I got estimates from. The service manager was honest and very kind. Critical: Punctuality, Quality, Value I am Very disappointed with Wells Automotive. My car shut down on a major highway while I was driving. All dashboard lights came on and power steering went out. This was an Extremely dangerous situation so I had it towed to Wells Automotive. They SAID they fixed the Alternator. Well less than a week later The same Dangerous situation happened on the highway. I called Wells who said bring it back in, yet it was undrivable so they had to be talked to by my significant other then they sent a towe truck to get it , they said it was fixed . Now here I am AGAIN Only a couple of months later with the SAME Dangerous Highway situation happened Again on the highway for a 3rd time causing Another towe. Howard from Wells said they would call me by the end of the day,, well they did Not, the next morning I called them, This time I was told they used the cheapest parts because I had a warranty. They must have got the parts from a junkyard Endangering my and my children lives Several Times. And I had to get a rental car èach time.. I am an Extremely Unsatisfied and feel mistreated. In response to my review response ! To owner, I was Absolutely told by Howard of Wells Automotive that the cheapest alternator was used because of my warranty and when the 3rd incident happen, then I had to ask about using a different part and was told I would have to pay the difference of $53 which was covered Only after my significant other spoke with both my warranty company and the owner. When my vehicle was towed the first time it was covered by My own insurance. The second time, when they spoke with my significant other, yes Wells did have it towed as it was their fault and the third towe I had to use My AAA coverage. This shop gets a 5 in my opinion!!!! They were nice which is always always a plus! They were thorough with findings and they charged me way less than a previous company was trying to charge me. I read all the reviews prior to going but opted to go to another place because it was closer. Big mistake! Did a great job on my daughter's Jeep, dropped transmission to replace freeze plugs. Finished it faster than promised, desk staff and mechanics were friendly and professional, and nothing popped up about other things we should fix, etc. Took it back when we noticed a new rattle, and they took it in, got it up on the lift, showed us what the problem was, and fixed it on the spot at no charge, even though it had nothing to do with the earlier repair. My parents and I have been taking our vehicles here for 10+ years and have found them to be an honest and reliable shop that has always had the vehicle repaired in the time estimated. Even as I've come into to doing most of the repairs to my vehicles over the years, I know that I can take my vehicle here for a diagnosis of the problem(s), and when I take my vehicle here for an oil change they will let me know any other problems they find, as an honest mechanic should. In short, I've found that this is the fabled "honest mechanic" that is difficult to find these days. I've tried other shops that are closer to where I live, and always find myself coming back to Wells. And no, I'm not paid by them, or have any personal relationship with them in any way. I just felt I should write this review in appreciation for them after I got my vehicle damaged twice in a row getting my oil changed at a place that was more convenient. And to boot I found out about the damage to my vehicle done by the other place (cross threaded lug nut when rotating tires) when I brought it into Wells to diagnose a problem. I can't say enough good things about Wells Automotive! I've got 109,000 miles on my SUV and I plan to drive it till the wheels fall off and it looks like that will be a looooong time thanks to Wells Automotive! I brought my Saturn Vue in for an oil change and got a couple of estimates for work that will probably need to be done in the spring. How nice it is to not be caught by surprise when something breaks down - to know ahead of time that this is coming up and approximately what it will cost so I can budget for those repairs. Awesome!!! I wanted to try a small/local business and saw good reviews about Wells Automotive. I've driven by it for many years but I didn't give much thought about going there until now. I only wanted an oil change and that's what I was given. Lol. You enter through the door where it says, "Office" above it. I was helped by one of the three people at the desk. I had to make an appointment and go back a few days later (I, initially, went on a Friday around 10 am and scheduled the following Tuesday around the same time). While waiting in the waiting room, to the left of the door and front desk, it was silent (if none of the front desk people were speaking). Just a heads up to bring headphones, if you do not like silence or talking to anyone. I don't mind silence but I was taking fun, educational online quizzes to pass the hour wait it ended up being. I was given a little receipt (I paid on a credit card) and a print out receipt (on printer paper). I, also, provided an email address and was sent a receipt or run down of everything that was done and the results of things. That was cool to receive and see! Great service. Thank you. read more
