On a recent trip to Philly I stopped in Mom's Organic Market to stock up on groceries for my home…read morestay where I could cook. I am currently living in San Francisco so San Franciscans in Philly can think of Mom's Organic Market akin to Rainbow Grocery in SF. Mom's has a great variety of local and organic produce. Hard to find items that you would find in a good well stocked natural food store or cooperative like Mom's is. Staff is friendly. The layout of the store is a labyrinth that can be confusing like a rubik's cube too far gone yet with a little patience and perhaps asking security, staff, or one of the regulars they can help you get your learning curve to navigate the store of organic natural food product heaven. Within Mom's is the Naked Lunch vegan restaurant which I will return to have a bite there as it looks interesting. I am a proud graduate of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I received the William S. Burroughs scholarship. I did my thesis on William S. Burroughs and William S. Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch aka the cut up novel for which this restaurant is named. Since I was in Philly two weeks I was mixing up dining out at the wonderful vegan foodie scene in Philly along with cooking at my homestay. For cooking at my homestay at Mom's I picked up the following: Soymilk Local and organic blueberries Bananas Garnet jewel sweet potatoes Limes Avocados Organic granny smith apples Red cabbage Ginger root Sweet yellow onion I am pretty sure all the produce was organic. Mom's has been family owned and operated since 1987. Great bulk bin items. Great produce. In a word, great. Mom's sets the bar high for a natural food store. They are like the special forces of natural food stores which is quite alright in my book. Each day Mom's states customers prevent 9,233 grocery bags from being used. Mom's has banned over 250 ingredients from our products storewide. Mom's has chosen to print their receipts on BPA and BPS free paper products for the safety of it's community and the environment. In a word...Yes!

The produce is of great quality as well. Do try their salad kits which are delicious. They also have ready to eat meal kits. Some of the favorite things to pick up from this grocery store are juices, coconut water, fresh produce, ready to eat salad kits, frozen Indian food, canned fizzy juices, potted plants. Also they have an amazing customer service, the staff is great, super nice and helpful. Have had the same experience in every Trader Joe's store I have been to. Highly recommend this grocery store.

I'm not usually up this way, as I live in Virginia these days, but my dad passed pretty suddenly…read moreearlier in the month and his funeral was this past Saturday. My mom was feeling like she needed to get out of the house yesterday, so I agreed to go with her to this TJ's location. I get pretty anxious in grocery stores so I tend to go in the early morning, so mid-afternoon on a Sunday was nerve-wracking for me. The parking lot is easy to navigate, which is nice for a TJ's location, and the store is well laid out too. Everything appeared to be well stocked. I want to give one of their workers a shoutout. I am not sure of his name, though. Essentially what happened was that my mom and I turned down an aisle. There was a man standing to the side with a cane, but he was...literally just standing there, so my mom scooted past him with the cart, said "excuse me" and kept walking. I was behind her and overheard the man's wife announce, "Yes, they can go, you have a cane after all!" in this really snarky, nasty tone. I turned and was like, "Was that really necessary? We buried my father YESTERDAY" and called her a not-nice name (if she replied, I didn't hear her -- I was seeing red). A worker nearby WHIPPED his head around and I thought for a second I was going to get kicked out of the store, but instead, he walked up to my mom and offered to help her put a heavy item in her cart. The checkout girl was pleasant too. Thank you to that worker for the small act of kindness at a time when we needed it. I appreciate that TJs workers seem to all practice active empathy no matter the location.

I returned it to the store the day after Christmas the manager came to the desk was very rude laughed at me, turned around and told the guy give her a credit. Did not even try to make up for the fact that my entire Christmas dinner was ruined. One star is too many for this store. I've shopped there for years when they had their first bouts in Washington Township and that is how I got treated. They never called me even though the guy working at the courtesy counter said he would leave a note for the owners to call me with my phone number. No one ever called me. They don't even care what somebody went through and how their Christmas dinner was ruined. They are horrible.

I can see the points of both reviews below, and partially agree with each…read more Bottino's is like the lesser of 2 evils in town. It's certainly not as bad as the one review makes it out to be, but it isn't ideal. The regular/non-organic produce is much better at acme, as is the meat. But acme prices on everything else is much higher. Who wants to go to two food stores. So I assume people go to shoprite due to the price. The prepared foods are mediocre. The hot foods and salad bar look like a school cafeteria. But this is apparently good to many people, so it works. Shoprite does put a considerable of effort into stocking alternative diet food items, such as organic, gluten free, vegan etc. they've really come a long way in recent years, especially with having dedicated areas for it. I eat organic and gluten free. I can manage to eat solely gluten free shopping here, but could never sustain myself with their organic produce. It's atrocious. It's generally old/moldy. I'll even place something on a separate shelf if I find a moldy item (every trip so keep your eye out). If I had a web and in my backyard I'd shop there once a week, but I don't. So this will have to do. And it's just fine. FYI: Zallies shoprites have much better bakeries than Bottinos. No comparison.

My assessment would be that it's…read morenot the best place to buy processed items because they tend to be niche organic labels that are expensive, but the produce, dry goods, etc., that I mentioned are actually priced really well. During the height of the #TrumpTakeEgg crisis, I found eggs here that were a really reasonable price. They've also got really good bread. A lot of big boxes stores don't have any decent bread. There's a couple other reasons I shop here: As a non-driver, I actually find the coop is a great price option for me. It's true that if I had a car and wanted to drive way out of town to a big box store I could find things cheaper, but for me it's never made sense to invest all that money in car upkeep, parking, gas, insurance, etc. The coop is important to me because I really believe in the idea of being able to live without a car, and in that way they're doing way better than a lot of bodegas are capable of. Also, if you're complaining about prices, go look at how much your taxes subsidize those big boxes! That's an institutional problem! I also like that the coop is unionized. It's not perfect, but I started shopping here after Trader Joe's joined Whole Foods and Starbucks in trying to get the NLRB declared unconstitutional. It makes me feel happy knowing I'm not putting my money to that. And I also feel like over time, you get to know the workers, and they know you and are friendlier, and in a much deeper and more sincere way than at other stores. It is true that there can be grumpiness too. I much prefer the real conversations I have with workers who actually recognize me than the weird, forced banter I used to experience at Trader Joe's, that felt like something the worker was probably doing because a manager was looking over their shoulder.

I really want to support this business but they do everything in the power to make it difficult…read more On most days you'll have to dodge aggressive pan handlers to enter or exit the store and despite numerous complaints the management refuses to do anything about it. When you finally make it into the store you'll find very few, if any, local products and the produce is consistently substandard. You're better off getting your groceries from the Pandemic Pantry and if you need last minute ingredients for a meal its best to walk the extra few blocks to Fu-Wah.
