After having a fantastic UYE here, and Dan is such a gracious host, I couldn'y wait to come back here with some other friends. And we did just that. Waited outside in the comfy chairs for the doors to open at 10am on a Sunday morning. Yup, that's right, we were here for bottomless mimosas. The mizu were really great and so was the watermelon mimosa but my fave was the homemade ginger beer. Love, loved it. Ordered the Croissant Eggs Benedict with the black forest ham, two poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise sauce, and brown butter potatoes. That hit the spot for me. It went so well together. I can't wait to try again. Dan came around and gave us each a misfortune cookie. I didn't want to open it but I wanted to eat the cookie. It's a good cookie. Nestled away inside the Stay Hotel Waikiki is a super fun karaoke bar with great food, drinks, and welcoming staff. My fiance and I came here on a Sunday for Drag Brunch and all you can drink mimosas. We ordered the Chicken & Waffles and the Eggs Benedict. Everything was delicious! The chicken was perfectly crispy and the waffles weren't too dense either. Also the benedict was perfect from the sauce to the poached eggs. Yum! Bottomless mimosas? ! What's that? When my friend invited me to 10am SUNDAY BRUNCH in Waikiki, I was ALL IN! I had been to Wang Chung's for an evening karaoke party in the past, so I knew that Wang Chung's was a loud and fun place - inside of the Stay Waikiki Hotel - With yummy food and whimsical decor! PARKING Last time I was here, I parked for free by the Honolulu Zoo. This time, I parked for free on the Ala Wai. If you are willing to work a bit and walk, there IS Free Parking in Waikiki! Just keep your eyes open, drive slowly, and pray hard! Last time (ten months ago), we had all kinds of appetizers - maybe one of every type! This time, we had the Sunday Brunch for $28 with Bottomless Mimosas - it's like all you can drink! I thought that the Watermelon juice didn't taste like pure juice! Same with the Lilikoi (challenging because of the seeds and tartness) and Orange Juices! Then I realized that the fizz in all of the beverages came from the champagne! Oh my! Luckily, I asked for the Sugar Cane juice to be juice only - no alcohol! That was a lot! The Ginger Beer was a hit, too! Back to the FOOD - I'm not sure if this is a new thing, but Sunday Brunch has 5 choices: 1. Chicken and Waffles 2. Biscuits and Gravy 3. Croissant Eggs Benedict - Black Forest Ham, 2 poached eggs, Chipotle Hollandaise sauce, Brown Butter Potatoes 4. Huevos Banditos - flour tortilla with chorizo, 2 poached eggs, Chipotle Hollandaise sauce, salsa, and Brown Butter Potatoes I got the Croissant Eggs Benedict which I devoured. Even though the Chipotle sauce was a bit spicy for me, I balanced it out with the croissant and alternated with the eggs. Note: The eggs seemed to be on the well done side, but I will give them a break because we had a really large group and the place was packed! Service was so friendly and patient - we really pushed them to the limit with our requests and they kept their cool!!! They were really nice to us and gave us complimentary Misfortune Cookies - the sayings inside each cookie are so funny! The second time that I went for Sunday Brunch, I got the Waffles and Buttermilk Fried Chicken - YUM! The Chicken had great flavor, crisp, and NO BONES! This made for faster consumption, especially because the meat was tender and moist! I took my time on the waffle, so it got a bit soft. I treated it as a dessert and layered the butter over the top and dipped pieces of it into the maple syrup. It lasted a long time between sips of the Lychee mimosa and Ginger Beer. Yes - different flavored mimosas this time. (Other options were Fresh Meyer Lemon Sour and Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit mimosas!) I'm not much of a drinker, but I love karaoke. When someone asks me where to go for karaoke, I usually list Wang Chungs as one of the places. Great songs, diverse crowd. I don't live on Oahu anymore but been there twice in the last couple of months. Unfortunately, I was disappointed both times. I know that there are usually lots of songs in the que so I don't expect to have the mic if I get there after a certain time. But it's even worse as the bartenders allowed these LONG the transitions between songs, waiting for the next person, who likely was too drunk by the time it was their turn or already left the bar because they couldn't wait any longer. The song would play and no one would take the mic halfway through song. The bartenders seemed overwhelmed, so I tried to brush it off. It was my friend's first time, I had talked the place up, she was not impressed. Then she got her drink, she only gets one. She told me it was disgusting. I was skeptical, the drinks are usually delicious. But is was so, I took it back and the bartender (not the one who made it), agreed. "I can't remake it but I can try to make it better," he said. WTH? Never had I been to a bar that wouldn't remake a drink that was poured wrong. He seemed earnest and poured half of it into another glass and tried to improve it. Didn't work but I appreciated him trying. So I went back again the day of the Pride parade thinking it will be packed but I would check to see the song que. The bar was half empty and only two songs visible, so I got our drinks but was told they were holding off on songs and would take it if there was time. Ok, seemed promising and they seemed more on it with the transition times. I didn't want to sit at the bar because it was wet and there were empty glasses but this guy kept bumping into me so I thought my drink was safer there. But he bumped me and I bumped my drink which would slide on the wet bar and in my attempt to grab it, it spilled anyway. One of of the bartenders was there and I thought she saw it. We helped her clean it up, I passed the other empty glasses as well. She told me I'd have pay for another. Ok, as expected, I didn't mind. But then she disappears for a while and my drink doesn't appear. When I say something she asks another bartender who says he never made it. Then she says I'm probably drunk and she's cutting me off. Again, WTH? 1. Out of left field. 2. I grew up around bars, as my mother was a bartender. I like a well-made drink. I am known by everyone who knows me as the person who never gets drunk. The person who tells bartenders they poured too heavy. So in surprise, I protest "what are you talking about? You why'd you say you were going to make it?" "The bar was wet and slippery" Etc. She's walking away, I'm thinking oh well, probably not going to sing anyway, so go to my fave spot instead. Then this other bartender, who wasn't part of anything, tells me to respect her coworker's opinion, points to the now clean bar and says it's not slippery. I'm dumbfounded at this point I tell her to cash me out and reach for my boyfriend and tell him we are leaving. Not involved girl asks me for my credit card and I tell her "why do you need it if it was already swiped?" I'm suspicious now, especially since I heard a guy tell a bartender to not keep his tab open and when she goes to cash him out he says, "because I knows how it works here." So she starts to angrily tap the iPad and yell at me, says she doesn't need my card and I tell her to just cash me out and give me something I can sign. Then she flips out and wildly pokes at the iPad, waves it in my face saying she's deleting my bill "Look! Look! You see! There, it's deleted!" and she grabs my boyfriend's drink. Seriously, WTH? I raise my hands in defeat and leave. I was resigned to their bad judgment and l was prepared to pay and move on, but extremely disappointed in the way this dark haired bartender came in so aggressively. Even then, I would have probably would have even tipped well. At the time I told myself, it was inexperience, and they looked like the were having a hard time keeping up, so maybe they were tired. In retrospect I can see it's more than that and I can't keep making excuses for bad service. It was twice and with completely different workers, except for one. If you can't even keep the karaoke part of a karaoke bar going efficiently or even deal with a complying customer then, I don't know. It's too bad. read more

Fun fun fun I thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Wang Chung has that neighborhood vibe, everyone is friendly, everyone seems like they're all having a great time and some folks can really sing! The bartenders are cool and competent, they know what they're doing and despite having a full house on both of my visits, they handed out drinks quickly. On one visit, it happened to be their anniversary and we were given these cute tote bags. I wish they would put Wang Chung name on the tote bags though. Can't wait for my next visit!! read more

So much fun! I was invited to a karaoke competition/costume contest/fundraiser for my dear friend. I mean, I don't think I could come up with more things I love all in one place. (Okay, maybe ice cream, but that's not the point.) I arrived just before 8 PM and got all the details for karaoke. Thanks to H-1 lane closures, they decided to push back the start of the competition until 8:30ish. That gave me plenty of time to enjoy a drink and warm up with another song. It was easy to look up my song request on the website and I gave my number to the bartender. I love that they show the song queue on the side of the screen! The contest was an absolute blast; everyone was very supportive of the performers and sharing rounds to support the cause. The bartenders did a fantastic job with the very heavy crowd for the evening and the fundraiser was a huge success. Since this review has been in my drafts for too long, I had a chance to visit again this weekend. It's fantastic that in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday, everyone is having a great time singing and dancing. Again, the bartenders were fantastic and we had a blast! This was one of the most unwelcoming bars I've ever visited. The Bartender was very rude. When it came time to pay our tab, he very rudely made a comment stating " where's my money". The placed smelled like dirty mop water, very unpleasant. Overall the place is very unwelcoming to new visitors, seem more catered to locals. Wang chungs is offering mixers and all the fixings of their awesome featured drinks and they are amazing! We got the unicorn mule mixers and omg I cannot drink another mule-type drink other than this drink in my life it was that good!!! The ginger beer is local and house-made. You can tell because it's so good and is a flavor explosion for your mouth. The butterfly pea tea is so cool because it comes out blue and is floated on top of the yellow ginger beer, then you squeeze the lime into it and the blue changes to a lovely fun, unicorn-esque purple and when you put the mint and lemon peel in just makes for such a fun looking drink that isn't too sweet and tastes so good! We love this place already and felt like friends when we went to pick up the bag of mixers. Chelsea was so sweet, she texted to arrange the pickup time as they have to come bring it to your car right now and she had the happiest friend come out and with her. Wang Chung's is the Cheers of Waikiki! Everyone knows everyone's name. Dan is the Man! The bar is very tiny yet cozy and happening with the screen savers running of cheerful patrons or karaoke on the screens. They recently cut a doorway to the bathroom so you don't have to go around the bldg any more. Drinks are great and affordable. Of course you'll have to hear "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung at least once throughout the night. Parking is available the left and the right of the hidden bar. It's about $8 for the night. The parking lot to the right belongs to the hotel; you must be out by midnight. read more

Scored enough bar stools upon entering & made fast friends with the rest of the bar patrons. I luv luv luv their housemade ginger beer. Try the housemade jalapeno taquila if you dare - hot, hot, hot! The housemade lychee vodka is yummy - I wonder how many of the lychees who gave up their essense I can handle? Since they soaked up pure booze probably a half, hahaha. We started the evening with Grayson our friendly mixologist - what a sweet guy - and ended with Brian who can belt out those songs. Brian is a tough act to follow - that dude has skills! You will not have a bad time here - this karaoke bar will surely provide a few hours of entertainment as you either sing your way through the evening or listen and laugh at others as they 'sing' (yes I do laugh at others...don't judge!). I loved my night out here! I'm told this is a very well known local spot, and it absolutely shows. There were plenty of singers ready and willing to belt out a range of songs from country to ballads. When I first walked in, one of the bartenders was doing an excellent job of multitasking between pouring drinks and singing a song. The mic was never silent for long. My group ordered some of their buffalo wings, which were quite tasty. My Old Fashioned was well made and served with a single globe of ice. The Pussy Grabs Back beer was crisp, which I enjoyed. Wang Chung's is a fun place for Sunday brunch. We drove in from Kapolei to enjoy the unique and flavorful mimosas. Today I had the black currant mimosa and MarkY had the calamansi. As much as I enjoyed my black currant, the tart taste of the calamansi was a welcome change and I recommend it. The last time we had the ginger beer which we liked so much that we stole it and served it at our own brunch. Then, we ordered food. I had the Croissant Benedict. The croissant was mediocre and squashed. The hollandaise sauce was bland. However the eggs were cooked nicely and the Black Forest ham was very good. Mark Y had the chicken and waffles which was much better. The beat reason to go to Wang Chungs is the atmosphere. It's friendly people who seem to enjoy what they do and enjoy sharing it with you. My last name is Chung.. and this bar put its WANG in me. Just had my birthday at Wang Chung's because every body lets have fun tonight, everybody WANG CHUNG tonight. Wang Chung had an abundance of beautiful people, amazing drinks, and AMAZING food. I had some noodles and literally died (I promise I wasn't even drunk yet). They were so good I didn't even look at the menu, my friends just put food in my mouth and made me NOMNOM. It was my first time here so I didn't know what to expect. But it blew me away. Located in the Stay hotel on the lobby level, it's not that hard to find! I can't wait to come back, it felt like I was at home and the bartender was my long lost uncle. They kicked me out cuz I was straight, after a 3.5 hour wait an a $1200 tab. What a bummer.

And the winner of the brunch games is...! If you are looking for a fun, SUPER boozy brunch with classic movies, the nicest wait staff, and delicious food, this is where you have to be on Sunday morning. Ideally, you will not have work on the following day if you are like me, and your eyes are bigger than your liver (or whatever), or you can spend the rest of your Sunday sleeping off your overindulgence of champagne. Classy, I know. But when an entire pitcher is $10, you just buy one for yourself, because it's only $10 during power hour (10am-11am) instead of $20. What a DEAL. Wang Chung's used to have Flowing Mimosas, which was a deal where you would purchase a food item from their brunch menu, and get bottomless mimosas for a total of $28. Now, they sell their mimosas by the pitcher. Initially, my reaction was WHY!? But now, after taking time to think about it and look at the menu, I've realized that this is actually a better deal for me, because there's no way I'll drink more than a pitcher, and my food came out to $12.50. I save money for the Lyft home (drink responsibly, people!) and get just as drunk, if not more. Their food items have changed up a bit since last time I was here for brunch. In the past, they had chicken and waffles, huevos banditos, eggs benny, and biscuits and gravy. Last time I went, they still had the chicken and waffles, and the huevos banditos, but they also had the Eggs in a basket Manwich, which is a bacon, tomato, and avocado sandwich with an egg cooked into one of the bread slices (!!!) a Tamale Plate, and Shrimp and Grits. I've had both the chicken and waffles and the huevos banditos before. I love shrimp and grits, but I've only ever eaten it in Atlanta, so I was worried it might not live up to my standards. But I am also a super crazy fan of avocado and egg, so the manwich jumped out at me. I had to get it. When I say the nicest waitstaff, I seriously mean it. Every time I've come to Wang Chung's we've been personally greeted by their owner, Dan, who is one of the nicest people I've EVER met! He is so down to earth and always has a big smile on his face. Before any of the food came out, my tablemates and I all got our pitchers of mimosas in various flavors. That day, they had traditional orange, ginger beer, blueberry, lychee-pear, and hibiscus. I always go for the ginger beer when it's on the menu. And yes, I finished the entire pitcher by myself. Oh lawd. I really need to make it here for a karaoke night. I've never felt comfortable singing karaoke outside of a private room, but something tells me the community here would not be too harsh. Here on vacation with my 40's spouse & parents in their 70's. All had a great time. Ok, my 70's dad loves karaoke so noise wasn't an issue. Still, we all sang, made friends, sang with others & had a great time! Try "Put the lime in the coconut" cocktail (yummy!). Best drink I've had on the island! Pizzas & wings were also very good. I haven't been too wang chungs in awhile. I came because my friend from Maui came into town and stayed at the hotel the bar is inside of. Its a fun little bar since you can go there with friends to drink and karaoke. However if you are shy then you won't sing since there are no private rooms. If you want to sing then its in front of everyone at the bar. Its a dollar a song. Ot gets busy on the weekends so the waitlist can get long. The bartenders can sing as well. One of the bartenders sang a korean song in korean and he wasn't even korean. I was impressed because he sounded so fluent while singing i thought it was an actual song on the radio. They have drink specials as well. I like this bar. If you like karaoke then i would recommend this place. It has a great environment and the bartenders are friendly. read more

Came here 2 nights ago the staff was super friendly and helpful. Because of that we came back...Tonight the ladies working here are full of shit and racist. First they told us the que was full and behind our back added people that they knew. When the other host tried to help by adding our names she told him not to add our name but he did anyway. A few minutes later 1 of the female bar tenders came back over and deleted the name and song request. I now became upset and voiced my concerns which seemed to be done out of spite. We were racially profiled and not given a fair chance as only if you knew them were you able to sing more than 2 songs. We just wanted to sing ONE song geesh...This ruin my last night in Hawaii bcz of these racists people they have attending to customers. Regretted coming here again tonight.... read more
