Finally!!! A Chinese restaurant worthy of mention in Bethesda! I secretly hope no one will find this place out since it's new, but I guess I should help the business...sigh. I'm putting a 5 star because this will probably be the best Chinese place you'll find in Bethesda. You know it's a good Chinese restaurant when you walk in and see (and hear) Chinese people seated and gabbling in Chinese. The food here is pretty authentic. They do it really well, and give you generous portions, so the value is well worth it (and I'm all about the value). In 2 times I've been here, I/my friends have ordered: - Chicken Corn (Egg Drop) Soup - Scallion Pancake - Vegetable Dumplings - Hainan Chicken and Rice - another chicken dish that starts with an H - Chicken Fried Rice - Soy Milk with Yao Taio? Idk pinyin sorry I would recommend all of the above. I particularly love Hainan Chicken (I'm Singaporean Chinese after all), and if I'm ever craving it and my mom is not up for making it, I'll definitely be coming here. My other favorites though would have to be the Chicken Corn Soup and the Scallion Pancake. They don't play with the soup, they have a good-sized share-able serving bowl, not like the stingy miso soup ones you are probably used to in Japanese restaurants.The vegetable dumplings were pretty darn good too though. My only wish is that they have more items for their dim sum menu. Then I would come more often! But I'm excited to come here again, when the time comes. read more

I went for a lunch special. The gentleman taking orders was very kind and helpful. I Ordered a hot & sour soup, Fish in black bean sauce AND sautéed string beans. The entire amount came to $14.64. A GREAT price, in my book. Now, the taste: hot & sour soup was DELICIOUS & seasoned WAY better than most dc area Chinese restaurants . THE FISH in black bean sauce was tender and surrounded by firm veggies. And the string beans were spiced perfectly and still had a healthy crunch. 5 stars for this great place. read more

We came here twice. Once we ordered most of the menu and everything was stellar. However, during the second time we returned, we ordered only the Hainan chicken only to go, and I got food poisoning from it. Keep it up! So glad that I finally got to try Wang Dynasty (after missing Michael's Noodles for so long)! Wang Dynasty is in the former Shanghai Village location, tucked away behind Giant. My SO and I came right before it closed for the evening, so there was only one other table still eating. We started off our meal with spicy wontons which were absolutely delectable. I loved their version of hainan chicken and of course, had to get the standard spinach sautéed with garlic. My SO really enjoyed his salt and pepper pork chops but I didn't care for it. After reading all of the great reviews, I had to give this place a try. One dish I knew I had to order was the Hainan-style chicken. Now, to those unaware, the idea of a poached chicken may not sound appealing, but this is a standard dish for almost every Chinese family. I grew up with this being the common Sunday night centerpiece. First you have to appreciate the delicate flavors brought out in the chicken. It requires a fresh chicken, so the meat will be succulent, cooked just barely done. (Chinese even prefer it to be a little rare, with blood still evident in the bones.) Wang Dynasty serves its chicken deboned, and cooked more to American restaurant health code standards, but it still was flavorful, reflecting the freshness of the chicken. But what is really the highlight of the dish is the rice served with the chicken. This is rice cooked in the poaching water, so it actually has more flavor that the chicken itself, since it contains the juices of multiple chickens. But unlike rice cooked in standard chicken stock, the poaching water does not overwhelm the flavor of the rice itself, instead only enhancing it. The other dishes we tried: shrimp with salted duck egg yolk, dan dan noodles and spinach with garlic were all excellent as well. I will be back many times. The food is delicious. We especially enjoyed the XLB (soup dumplings) and several dim sum items which are only available on weekends. XLB is available all week and is listed under appetizers. The skin is just the right amount of thinness and the filling is deliciously moist and has the "soup"! Staff were friendly and very attentive as usual. They were all masked and respectful of distancing as much as possible. This brings me to their COVID practices. As you enter the restaurant, both the outer door and inner "vestibule" door have signs that notify all who enter that not only are masks required, but proof of vaccination as well, so be prepared. Photos of vax cards are fine. Each party who entered the establishment, while I was there at least, was greeted as they came in by the owner and asked for proof of vaccination; one party apparently did not have proof and was politely "turned away" and, to their credit seemed to accept it graciously and left. Not all may agree with and/or be willing to put up with these safety procedures, but I have to respect the fact that this establishment is willing to do the often difficult thing and ask customers to, at the very least, help keep their fellow patrons and the staff as healthy and comfortable as possible. It can make the dining out experience during the Pandemic less stressful and more enjoyable. Good job, Wang Dynasty. read more

No. Just no! We decided to splurge Friday night and order a bunch of items for the first time here to-go. We got the Singapore noodle, pork fried rice, bbq spare ribs and spicy wontons. I can't tell which specific item or if all of them gave my partner and I diarrhea but wow the amount of regret I feel for trying this place is immense. We were both stuck in the bathrooms for what felt like all night so thank gosh we had at least two toilets because it would have been a seen right out of bridesmaids. If you want to treat your body and taste buds right you will eat at this restaurant. This was hands down one of the best meals I have eaten in my life. And I've eaten a lot of meals. The food was exquisite. It was an explosion of delicious flavor in my mouth with every bite. I could not have been more pleased. The food is very well priced and cheaper than some other Chinese restaurants I've been to too. Combine the price with the quality of the food and it's a no brainer. Please do yourself a favor and dine at this restaurant. Also worth noting is this place had the best napkins I have ever used at a restaurant. When they use Grub Hub, Door Dash, and others - the delivery time takes over an hour (I live about a mile away) and the food always arrives cold. read more

Would've given them a solid 3 but after seeing the hair, 2 is high enough. Drunken chicken was pretty decent. So I would recommend that if you decide to give this place a try. Hainan chick was okay not so impressed since we are used to the authentic ones we have in California. So our preferences would be biased. However they for sure need to do better on quality control. We found a hair in the rice half way and had to throw the whole thing. Therefore, it would not be biased if I say I do not recommend it due to the quality. Dan Dan Noodle was nothing like Dan Dan noodle. I travel a lot and I always like to try my favorite dishes at different places. Most of the time, they tend to be different but overall similar. And this is my first time getting something like this when I orders Dan Dan noodle. For $12, I'd say it's a rip off. I'll definitely be back! We got there fairly early but needed to wait around for a few other friends that were running late. The waiters were super helpful and didn't mind that we sat around for 30mins before deciding what to order. It got a bit busy once we ordered so it took a bit for the food to come out but it was worth the wait! We got tons of dishes: spicy wontons, spicy beef noodle soup, salt and pepper pork chops, beef chow fun, spicy pepper chicken, Hainan chicken, bean curd with beef, and spicy fish filet. Gotta say that the beef noodle soup and the spicy pepper chicken were awesome. Some of the best I've had in this area and would definitely order again. The others were great too and we all left full. The atmosphere was great too. All the waiters and owners were welcoming, nice, and helpful. Kinda made me feel like I was at a normal family potluck. Parking could be tough there but there are plenty of parking garages nearby. Wouldn't keep me from coming. I was excited to see this new addition to the neighborhood. Rockville's loss is Bethesda's gain. It came down to less competition in this area for Chinese food than the saturated Rockville market. Live long and prosper. So I had the hot and sour soup, and my wife had the wonton soup. My soup had a good assortment of ingredients, and the hot and sour were in balance. Unfortunately, my wife did not like her wonton soup, finding the broth under seasoned, and the wanton's lacking the ginger, scallion flavor she was looking for. We took both our entrees from the "Traditional Chinese Dishes" section of the menu. The first was steamed halibut with scallion and ginger. A healthy choice where flavor comes from non fatty components. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For not serving those dirt cheap tilapia exports from China, that are raised in deplorable conditions, and give you the illusion they are healthy because they are fish. The halibut portion size was generous, and came with broccoli. After being so good, we decided to be nasty with our second entree. Crispy duck. It takes 1/2 hour to turn out this dish, and it is worth the wait. No healthy vegetables on this one, except for a carved up radish. It was perfectly cooked, and full of that scrumptious duck flavor. The menu is extensive. There are 17 different styles of cooking, each with a choice of pork, chicken, beef, fish (halibut), shrimp, scallop or tofu. Lots of soups, appetizers, and noodle dishes. Went in for dinner on a Thursday evening. The restaurant filled up quickly once we were seated. We ordered steamed pork dumplings (which came with a soy dipping sauce on the side), crispy beef with sautéed carrots and celery and an order of spicy Szechuan green beans. Everything we ordered came out perfectly! The beef was crispy (sliced very thinly) with a sweet and spicy flavor. The string beans had great heat and the portion size was very generous. The dumplings had a tender, thin wrapper and were filled with deliciously seasoned pork and vegetables. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and even managed to find out the name of a dish I didn't know-- after showing her just a photograph.. ha! Quiet place near Bethesda Row, came in for take out. Food is pretty authentic, definitely one of the better Chinese places I've tried in the area. Ordered takeout twice this week during COVID. Authentic Chinese dishes satisfied my Shanghainese palate. The owners are Taiwanese, so the tastes are similar in that the natural flavors stand out without heavy spiciness. See 2 attached photos. Ordered these for weekday dinner: - Salted egg yolk shrimp: 3.5/5 Shrimp are breaded, battered, then coated in the yolk of salted duck egg. Similar to a dish at Din Tai Fung (the international Taiwanese restaurant chain). - Hainan boneless chicken with rice: 4.5/5, would definitely order again. Tastes kind of like drunken wine chicken, except this was topped with thin scallions. Best eaten cold, like drunken chicken in is. The rice is cooked with the chicken drippings and ginger, delicious. Also came with two sauces, which I didn't use. Now the real star is their weekend dim sum menu! Only available weekends 11am-3pm. I would order ALL of these again: - You tiao, fried dough stick. 4/5 This is a classic street food / snack. Was a little too chewy and tough, but that's probably due to the 30 minute transportation. I like to dip it in savory warm fresh soy milk. - Sen jian bao, Pan fried pork buns. 4.5/5. This is the only place close to DC that sells these, otherwise you have to drive to Rockville. This is my favorite Shanghai street food. Steamed on top with sesame seeds and pan fried on the bottom. Yummy pork filling. Unfortunately they were a little soggy after being transported for 30 minutes but would be amazing if served immediately. - Taiwan minced pork over rice. 4/5 Good flavor of pork. Comes with picked radish, picked mustard greens and a tea egg. -"Pancake with pork" Rolled up juan bing (a fried savory scallion pancake) with savory pork in between the layers. 5/5. So good, a must order! It's a classic chinese street food item. -(sweet) Ba bao fan, literal translation: eight treasure sticky rice. 5/5 The eight treasures refers to the mix of preserved fruit (no nuts in this restaurant's recipe) and sweet red bean paste buried within the sticky rice. Usually served after dinner as a dessert. Not overly sweet which I like. -As of this writing, their "Drunken Chicken" (zui ji) dish is discontinued. Boohoo. read more

We have done a couple of takeouts since the pandemic. The restaurant closes sit-down dining. There is a plexiglass at the check out counter by the entrance. Masks are required. The food is delicious! If you like traditional Taiwanese breakfast (fried dough, savory soybean milk..etc), you must give this place a try (tho the items are available only on weekends). The owner told me that the raddish cake I ordered was made on the premise and thus it would take 30 mins. I was happy to know my food would be freshly made and of course it was okay to wait. since I am especially thrilled that they have a number of vegetarian dishes!! Their mapo tofu doesn't add ground meat as most chinese restaurants do. All the food (including meat dishes that my husband ordered) that we have tried were divine! I highly recommend this place. I ordered the crispy beef and chicken lo mein for pickup. When I picked up, the elderly gentleman who took my credit card rolled his eyes and shook his head when I asked for red peppers. He gave me chili oil instead. There was no one in the restaurant. I couldn't have more than 2 tablespoons of each dish before I had to throw it away. I just wasted $35 and there's no point in informing the manager given the staff's service and aptitude to accommodate. The crispy beef is sweet and the lo mein is too oily and tasteless. I tried to add more salt and seasoning but My stomach will literally reject the food. Will never be going back. read more

After searching for a good Asian spot in Virginia, I had to pull my forces to Maryland. Happen to be in Bethesda for a hair appointment and wanted to check out something new. Wang Dynasty popped up on my yelp as a place to check out and I am very happy about it. The staff was very friendly and seated us immediately after we walked in. The manager or owner came to our table to check in on us as well. Very nice touch. The outside of this place really doesn't do it justice with the quality of food you get inside. We ordered a few different options to try out including egg drop soup, spring rolls, lo mein and a chicken king pao option. All were fresh and delicious. I will drive 40 minutes to go here again!!!!! read more

I guess we are spoiled from being near Rockville, but the quality of this food was over priced. We had appetizers, fried rice and some American Chinese dishes (maybe that was our mistake). None of them tasted fresh or had any flavor. It's really disappointing because we want to support local businesses, but I don't think we will be returning. read more

Food arrived well past hour and a half after I ordered. Everything was cold. Soup was okay but rolls were underdone and stuck to the take out of wrapping. Pan fried noodles were okay but beef was kinda gross. Slow delivery boy was downright rude and straight up lied to me! Said the delivery guy got into an accident and he was a waiter "not getting paid." I said I was just called saying the delivery boy was 2 blocks away 20 mins ago. I told him to promptly get off my property as I wasn't born yesterday. I had some cash in my pocket for him but after that screw it. Guy on the phone blatantly lied too. They probably never sent the delivery timely based on shear laziness and incompetence. Listen I've heard this many times. Anytime the restaurant says the delivery guy was in an accident is completely full of it. Most of the reviews on here are for in house but their delivery is crap. Not impressed and the owners should really reach out to me because I have some honest suggestions. Try with caution but they need to train and work harder at ensuring proper application of standards both in and with delivery. Mr. Wang is a big liar. I was with Megan at the time when he used the broom to harass my daughter. We liked the waiting staff very much. He also lied that we did not apologize. My daughter, my son-in-law all went out of our way to apologize for the mess my grandkids made. They are twins at their terrible 2 stage. We were happy with the waiting staff. They all told us not to worry and come back again. Corinne did break a cup and there came two grumpy old men to broom the pieces. It was hard to apologize to the grumpy old men but we just figured he might just be not sociable. We did apologize to the waiting staff for breaking the cup and asked them to include the cost in our bill. I feel Mr. Wang has no kids of his own for him not to understand the behavior of 2 years old toddler. Finally, I wanted to point out that Mr. Wang's restaurant does not have toddler's food. We did bring food for the toddlers but not for our own consumptions. We felt bad about our toddlers' behavior. They are just toddlers going through their terrible 2 stage. My daughter burst out into tears when he tried to harass her with the broom. Since he recognized us when we were there the second time. How come he did not come sit us at a table that was more secluded. Please don't lie, Mr. Wang. Well I wanted to try this place due to the reviews and to find a local Chinese restaurant to go to. Wow, what a complete turn off, we arrived 8:25 on Saturday evening only to be looked at with a very unwelcoming face, not friendly at all, and we were told no dining in.. okay but there were people still eating and they don't close til 9am. Fine by us.. we walked down to City Lights where they happily served us and had a delicious meal. So.. we'll just continue to take our $$ and stick with City Lights from now on. It's so lovely to see these people back in the restaurant business. We came in on opening day and yes, service was a bit slow at times, but let's be real, can you really get perfection on the first day? I'd rather wait a few extra minutes for my food and make sure it was exactly what I wanted and done right. As they go on I'm confident they'll adjust as needed. Now onto the food! Food quality is amazing, especially the beef noodle soup and the Hainanese chicken and rice. Those two have to be their best dishes without a doubt. Heads up the beef noodle soup definitely packs some heat to it so beware! The chicken was tender, juicy, and just oh so perfectly seasoned/marinated. It comes with two dipping sauces that pair greatly with the chicken and rice. One of the few places that does these dishes well. I also recommend the Szechwan string beans!
