Well-equipped furniture

Very clean, comfortable, well equipped and most of all cheap. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because of the noise, since it is a bit close to the road some noise gets in while you're sleeping. Overall perfect place for a one-night stay or single travelers.

A sense of humor!

The Wapiti Lodge in Durango is a Gem - nestled right near behemoth chain hotels like Residence Inn and The Doubletree Hotel, this i little hotel (established 1966) is extremely clean and reasonably priced. The only reason I don't rate it 5 stars is that it lacks some of the modern things I have come to expect of hotels - internet, swimming pool, decorating updates and little soaps by the sink for instance. We enjoyed our stay (family of 4 with a standard poodle mix dog) and felt safe and comfortable at the Wapiti Lodge!

When staying in Durango, you could choose a hotel right off of Main Ave and pay $200+, or you could take a short walk from downtown and pay $97 for a completely adequate room at Wapiti Lodge. Wapiti is your average no-frills family-owned motel. You get a clean spotless room, comfortable beds, towels, soap, TV, and everything else you would expect from a standard motel. Wi-fi is free and works great even at the end of the building. Sure it lacks a pool and isn't the most modern place like the Best Western across the street, but it gets the job done at a reasonable rate. A couple of guys road tripping through Colorado don't really need much more. If you paid online, make sure to remember that and show your receipt. The lady at the check-in counter skipped that little detail and wanted to charge us again. After mentioning it to her, it was not a problem. Mistakes happen. Shes very warm and welcoming and will help you out with anything.

Booked through VRBO, charged me more than the advertised price plus a $30 cleaning fee plus VRBO fee's. Refused to make price adjustments.

He left a person note to welcome us and clear signs to help us to find our room easily and connect to WiFi. Our room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. It included bagels, muffins, hard boiled, coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, fruit... there are big-comfortable dining tables inside and outside on the deck. The back deck has lovely mountain views. There are lots hummingbirds and deer. The Inn is in a peaceful-quiet spot. You pull out of the short dirt road and go about 15 minutes straight down route 550 into downtown Durango for restaurants. The hot springs are about 8 minutes away. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful hospitality we experienced at this sweet inn.

This is a room on the main floor. Each morning we woke at 6:30, but I wasn't able to hear any noise other than a toilet flush here and there from other rooms. This was a huge win!! I feel as though all of us guests were a big family being respectful of each other's time, noise and peace level. The views are AMAZING. This place is nestled right in front of some beautiful Mountain Views. You get breakfast every morning including some yummy goodies, water is always available (big plus, we didn't have to buy water over and over!), and fresh cookies are always on the table! Downstairs is an area to watch TV with couches, table to relax or play games (provided). My husband and I truly felt like we were at home. This place was truly my favorite part of our entire trip. It was so great to have no stress where we laid our heads to sleep. Walter and Jodi are the best!! If you're on the fence about booking, this is your sign!! It's worth it.

Homebody was our room/suite and it's very spacious and quiet. We feel like we were staying at a family member's house, it was so cozy and there's so much character in the building and hallways. It is on the second story and it has stairs, but we love the ability to walk right out. We also have been pleased with the friendliness of the person operating the phones here. Highly recommend!

We got the Homebody room, which had a king size bedroom, and a full-size pull out coach in the living room. Also a kitchen with all the utensils you'd need. The look of the apartment was definitely eclectic - bright shades of yellow and pink splashed across the walls. Plus, a polka dot bathroom. The decor was fun too. An old school radio, suitcase, and telephone were among the many items on the shelves. These rooms certainly aren't anything fancy, but everything was clean and tidy. It's nice that check in is contactless. You simply get a set of directions emailed to you once you book letting you know the code to get in. Parking is limited but they do give you a parking pass so you're all set. Also great is its location. Truly the center of downtown, within walking distance to all the shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee joints you could need. The one bummer was a leaking ceiling in our unit's bathroom. Hopefully they get that sorted ASAP because it was quite bad. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to travelers passing through!

We didn't plan to use the kitchenette but we appreciated having the extra space to spread out. The bed was comfortable and overall the room was clean. When we stayed there was not maid service other than trash pickup and a towel refresh. The hotel has a hot breakfast that starts at 6:30am. We appreciated the convenience of a quick bite to eat before heading out for our daily adventure. Overall breakfast was satisfying. We particularly liked the tortilla, egg, bacon and potato casserole dish. The hotel is located several miles from historic Durango where many of the town's popular restaurants and shops are located. We were fine with driving to historic Durango but there are some hotel options that are within walking distance of the historic district. As far as amenities, the hotel has a gym, indoor pool and hot tub and guest laundry. The laundry room was clean and had two "speed queen" washers and two dryers. The wash cycle was a speedy 23 minutes but the dry cycle was more like 50 minutes. I definitely appreciated being able to wash our hiking clothes before heading to our next destination. One thing that really impressed me about the hotel is that I left an item behind and they called me to let me know. I stay in a lot of hotels each year and although I don't leave stuff behind too often, I don't think many of them would take the initiative to call a guest about a lost item. A few minor nits - there was leftover drinks and food in our fridge from the previous guest that I thought house keeping should have cleared out. Also, the sodas in the vending machine are expired. One Diet Coke I got expired four months ago and the other Diet Coke I got expired six months ago. The irony is that the hotel is located next to the Coca-Cola distribution plant.
