Looking for a brunch nearby and bumped into this spot. The place is a bit of a challenge to find as there is no big sign of their name. It's situated within a restaurant called Shabu-Shabu. It seems like they're a brunch restaurant in the morning and a shabu shabu at night. Went in around opening hours and it wasn't busy, we were seated immediately. There's a bar for shabu shabu which was interesting. Got to try the following: 1. Drinks: hojicha latte is perfect in flavor, ube latte reminded me of ube ice cream, so good! I like how they kept the coffee taste a tad stronger than the hazelnut, just very complimentary to each other. 2. Wagyu Burger: love the flavors, has a hint of sweetness to the sauce, got medium rare, great tasting! 3. Fried Chicken Croffle: the chicken is red meat, fair breading but on the salty side. The croffle a hybrid of croissant and waffle was an interesting twist. First time trying maple syrup with chili flakes which tastes really good! Service was really good. Looks like this is shabu at night and they are a cafe during the day. Lots of options on the Breakfast menu. I opted for chicken croffle which is a croissant waffle. Chicken is dark meat so it's super juicy and batter is crispy. Croffle is a cross between a croissant and a waffle so it's fluffy, flaky and sweet so it doesn't really need syrup. It comes with a chili syrup which was good..sweet and not spicy. Lattes were good but took forever to come out. Good came before the drinks and I hate that! Drinks should always come out first! The food here is so good! I ordered the Eggs Benedict which comes with potatoes and a salad. I also tried the Ube Latte (Hot) which was so delicious a must try. I will definitely trying more of their drinks here next time! One plate of food is also super filling and delicious. The wait was pretty long, but it was worth it! I think that the service can be improved a bit because it was a little slow, but there were a lot of people so it was understandable. Great food and service! The Breakfast burrito and Smoke Salmon Egg Benedict -- 8/10 - Nothing wrong with them, they were just standard so the price hurt a little lol ($17-$18 each). 3.5 stars The raving reviews on Yelp got my attention. I had to check it out for myself. Let me just start off by saying... wow this place was really hard to find. The restaurant was hidden from view and surrounded by medical buildings. We circled a couple times. The inside wasn't exactly what I expected. It's a shabu restaurant turned into a brunch spot in the morning. On the tables, they cover the burner stovetops with a cloth. I would not come here for ambiance. Oh and they brought us water in paper cups. The coffee came in mugs though and they were delicious! I ordered classic breakfast and upgraded to a croffle instead of sourdough. I had to try a croffle because apparently they're known for it and I was curious. It tasted like they just stuck a croissant in a waffle iron. Delicious, but not flaky or crispy. So Wara Cafe seems to be the morning and afternoon restaurant and at dinner time, the restaurant coverts to Shabu Wara. A unique concept. They were doing a soft opening so the menu was limited. We had the sweet Croffle (waffle made with croissant batter) with whipped cream and berries and the Chicken Croffle. It was my first time trying a Croffle and I highly recommend it. It was hot and crispy on the outside and soft and a lightly chewy inside. I think it's a better texture and density than a regular waffle. My chicken Croffle came with some smashed potatoes, a side salad, and a good size boneless fried chicken. The chicken was hot and crispy outside and moist inside with good seasoning. Omg they have no business making fried chicken this AMAZING. Jesus Christ it was one of the best fried chicken I've ever had. And trust me I've had ALOT of fried chicken. It was crispy, very flavorful no condiments needed and most importantly, super JUICY. Just wow. Also ordered the waygu burger medium and that too hit the spot perfectly after my wife had to do a 3 hour glucose test. I came for their drinks and had one of their signature drinks, the Shrek latte (matcha, brown sugar, and cinnamon) and matcha latte with oat milk. Based on my experience, the customer service was incredible. I didn't ask for the nice wait staff's name, but he was so kind and helpful. He was able to adjust the drinks' sweetness, which I really appreciated. What's excellent about Wara Cafe is its sweetness alternative options like agave and honey. I wish more restaurants did this! The food was really good. I had avocado toast with poached eggs. And a draft beer. I enjoyed it. They serve espresso and drip coffee which I appreciate. My cappuccino was good. The only criticism is the setting. The space doubles as a sushi bar at night. It felt like I was eating in a sushi bar before it opened. That's not a bad thing, but it felt kind of cold I guess. This little gem is located in a plaza in Chino Hills. It shares a parking lot with a medical facility so parking is tougher during the week if you're trying to park super close. NEVER GOING BACK. This place has so much potential yet their owner is trash. It's been 3 separate times where their business has failed. First, you show up and randomly they have very limited items so their menu is not accurate to what they offer. Secondly, you show up and the restaurant isn't very busy and you put your name on the waitlist and seat other parties that arrived after you, before you while calling you back 2 HOURS LATER. Make that make sense. Third, you order something through their online ordering and when you get there they let you know an item is out of stock... no calls no texts nothing yet they were so quick to take your money and let you order whatever you want. Oh my what an excellent brunch spot!! I came across this spot because I won a couple giveaways this place was pushing on social media. First thing that is a little confusing is that the same storefront is actually shared between two businesses! 8am-2pm is Wara Cafe, 5pm-9pm is Wara Shabu! The sign shows the shabu so you might miss it initially. Going in, the tables are a bit small and definitely look setup for shabu with half on the tables with built in stovetop. The staff are very friendly and very plentiful here, possibly because of Easter but they had like at least 5 people working the front for maybe 8 or 9 tables. For their Easter special they had Braised Beef Pappardelle with tomato based sauce or Branzino with garlic rice. Braised Beef Pappardelle - came with 2 slices of garlic sourdough toast on the side. I was really wanting more of that toast it was so good (and I don't even like sourdough!) Good amount of braised beef and pasta texture was on point. Even with the tomato base I still get overloaded but it's just me. Would've been great to have something fresh like salad vinaigrette on the side 8/10. Fried Chicken Croffle - (Croissant Waffle) was very very good! Generous portion, croffle was excellent texturally (I really like croissants). Chicken breast was cooked perfectly and very moist both eaten right away and at the end of the meal, potatoes were perfectly cooked, acidity of the included salad kept me going. Only thing bad I can say is the chili syrup was very corn starchy. Felt like cheap thick maple syrup with chili flakes added in. I'd have even preferred a watery syrup or straight honey over that. 9/10 I never learn my lesson with lattes, I keep thinking they are coffee + milk but it's just straight 'strawberry milk' Iced Ube latte - was quite good, nice flavor profile, didn't taste artificial. 8/10 Iced Shrek latte - was matcha/brown sugar/cinnamon. I don't even like matcha most of the time, I really should ask before I order how strong the matcha profile is. I just want the bitter accent not the whole punch you get here. If you like matcha, you'll like this drink. The cinnamon topping doesn't really mix in no matter how hard you try. Might've worked better as a hot drink, ended up asking for an espresso shot to add in, turned it into chocolate milk profile LOL. 4/10 (for me) Ube Cheesecake - Also ended up getting comped a slice of their cheesecake, either plain with fresh fruit or Ube. Ube inside, possibly pistachio crumble outside with a dollop of whipped cream. The ube cheesecake center is probably like 70% consistency of NY style cheesecake. Has some density to it but a little less heavy. Again their ube flavor is good. I believe they use Ube paste not Ube concentrate, concentrate taste too potent that it tastes artificial. Crust is not soggy so they may have prebaked it without the filling, very appreciated. Whipped cream on top I think I would have either went with a lighter merengue style or added more fat so it had more flavor, it didn't add anything to it. 8/10 Great value, fair prices, solid food, solid service! read more

I like the fusion style breakfast and service here, but not the environment. We ordered salmon bagel and chicken croffle. First time having croffle and it's really good. Food comes in good portion with sides. Service was very prompt and payment can be done scanning a code, so convenient. Only thing I don't like is the environment. This restaurant is in a plaza that looks old. I've been to other restaurants here and the internal deco are all old as from 90s. This one specially has some garbage like stuff stacked at the entrance. And the counters and tables are a bit greasy. The owner also run a shabu business for dinner so they have some stovetop on the table and vents above which also look absurd. It could have been perfect if they can offer a brunch vibe. Still consider revisiting but I wish the owner can improve the environment or move to some better places. read more

Scheduled at 1:15PM on Sunday afternoon online. Pretty smart of the owner to open up a brunch cafe during the early hours of the day to cater to both breakfast and dinner customers. I got to Wara around 1:10, asked for my order, and got it within 2-3 minutes. Two items ended costing $30.65 after tax which is a bit on the pricey side for this area but, have to factor in the cost for Wagyu. The Wagyu Burger had pickled Red Onions, Ketchup, Lettuce, Mayo, Melted American Cheese, and what tasted like a garlic spread/aioli. Ordered medium rare, and got medium rare. Had the option of ordering your egg any way you want it, and I opted for the Sunny Side up, which did not disappoint with the meat. Burger was juicy, and all the condiments/ingredients complemented it well. The burger came with two sides; a salad with halved Cherry Tomatoes, and smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes. The sauce container in the picture is some type of vinaigrette. Potatoes were cooked well, seasoned with salt. Salad was nothing to write home about. Dressing was a bit acidic. As for the Cha-Cha Iced Latte, I was a bit disappointed with how much ice played a factor in the drink's volume. I requested less ice and half sweet, and upon getting the drink it was about 3/4 full with a few ice cubes floating. For the drink itself, at half sweet it was just enough. I could definitely taste the Hojicha and Matcha flavor pretty well. Decent food on the costlier side, maybe would consider coming back at a less busier time or during dinner. read more
