HORRIBLE customer service!! I went yesterday, Thursday for the first time as I was looking for coffee a little later in the day. I found this coffee shop near me so I decided to go with my sister in law. We arrived 10mins before closing time so I was excited to make it on time. Apparently the ridiculously rude young lady working there wasn't having it. She took a couple minutes to take our order since putting in the patio furniture was more important. When she finally finished, she came to the counter with a horrible attitude asking what we wanted. My sister in law wanted a hot coffee and she refused to served it since the machine was "off" already. Then she proceeded to order a banana iced coffee (don't know the name) and again the lady refused to make it since it was one of their most "complicated" drinks to make. We ended up ordering two "quick and easy" ice drinks. We asked if she was working alone... this lady only had rude comments and answers to say (smart ass). It is unfortunate to be treated that way specially when it was my first time there. It is also very unfortunate that the Spanish Latte I ordered was delicious, BUT I will never be returning or recommending this place due to the horrible customer service. Such a hidden gem! From the outside, you would never guess what's inside! Its huge, quite a few places to sit & its so calm & i LOVE the decor/vibes. There's also a cool kids playhouse that's been added to the infrastructure and it makes it look so cool. I met up with my little cousin for brunch before she heads off to college. We got the avocado toast, the lox bagel & the bacon breakfast sandwich. For drinks, we got the hibiscus cooler & the strawberry matcha. I used to love Dirty Penguin, but I felt like it hasn't been up-kept as of recently. I visited today, a Friday afternoon, and just overall the cafe felt a bit musty than I remember. I ordered a matcha latte with agave, which sounds pretty simple to me. But the latte was DISGUSTING. Nothing like matcha at all. Also found it interesting how they stuck a table in the middle of the (former) children's play area. Not sure who's going to walk through the playhouse to sit there. Tables and chairs were kinda just everywhere. There's a lot more board games now available, which is nice, and they were displaying some art on the counters. But I just feel like it's not a spot conducive for working or studying anymore, which I think is the main reason why people stay at cafes. Just felt kinda awkward and a bit messy. The furniture is wearing down too. I see they're hopping on the matcha trend and offering different flavors of matcha, but if that's the case, a better matcha powder is quintessential. I couldn't even take more than one sip of my matcha though. I haven't retried the food, but hoping they've kept up with that. Back again and the food and drinks are good. I appreciate their food is real, cheese melts, egg is real not out of a carton, bread is good, and coffee is over sweetened with artificial sweeteners. I enjoyed my visit to Dirty Penguin Coffee. I came on a Sunday around 10am to get some work done, and there was plenty of seating available. It got pretty crowded and noisy between 11am and 12:30pm as lots of families with kids came in. After 1pm, things quieted down again and more tables opened up. The café also has free Wi-Fi, a few outlets, and a clean, spacious restroom. One thing I appreciated was that the staff seemed to care about maintaining a comfortable environment. A child near my table was having a tantrum, and an employee politely asked the parents to take the child outside until things had calmed down. Since many customers were there to work or study, I thought that was handled well. The girl who took my order was also incredibly kind. Unfortunately, I didn't catch her name, but her smile was contagious and genuinely brightened my day. Food: My table ordered the tiramisu latte and the ube latte. The tiramisu latte was delicious, and I'd definitely recommend it. The ube latte had a stronger flavor profile, so if you enjoy a bold ube and coffee taste, you'll probably like it as well. Was finally in town early enough to stop by! I always love how pretty, floral, and pink the inside of this shop is! It's super cute!! And despite being a "small" space, there always seems to be plenty of seating, which is such a plus. This time I tried the Tiramisu Matcha. The tiramisu definitely added sweetness to the matcha. Cute cafe that has been one of my local favorites. I remember it was initially hard to find, but parking there has never been an issue. Long time fan of Dirty Penguin. I love their lattes, vegan donuts supplied by Caffeinated Kitchen, and kind & helpful staff. Big shoutout to Cara & Sabrina and their consistent, outstanding customer service! Unfortunately, this review would be 2/5 if every time I went it and saw the guy behind bar (I think he's the owner?). The espresso shots are bad EVERY time and I know it as soon as I walk in. have been here several times with no issues, but today's visit left me a sour taste in the mouth. After ordering 2 drinks and waiting 10-15 minutes, i noticed parties ahead of me walking out with their drinks. I asked the barista about our 2 coffees and she said someone maybe took them and she will re-make them now. She then proceeds to make them iced as to the hot as we ordered and then she has to make them again. The time it took from ordering to getting our drinks was close to 40 minutes which is crazy for 2 lattes while waiting with a 15 month old. I grew up in chino hills and don't live very far away now. I have yet to step foot into the dirty penguin because I felt it was a disingenuous coffee shop. A couple months ago I decided it was time to go, walked up to the door... and there was a big "B" rating. I decided to give them some time.... Today was the day. I walked in and was pleasantly greeted by no one. The staff looked directly us and then looked away. We were the only ones in line, a couple people scattered around were working. Not a great start but that's okay. I was there for coffee. I ordered a Spanish latte and a hibiscus lemonade. We waited an unusually long time for being the only customers, but I figured it was due to making some real good drinks. I was wrong. We were called up to grab the smaller than I assumed drinks. The staff again couldn't care less we were there, and my husband is actually the one who thanked them and started the dialogue. We stepped out the door and took some sips. The latte was horrendous. I tasted zero coffee, and what I could only describe as cinnamon cereal milk I put in the fridge to save for later. Safe yourself some money. I came in yesterday right before closing and ordered a matcha latte. The barista (short blonde girl) looked visibly annoyed with me when I came in. I then proceeded to show her that I had 10 stamps on my stamp card (I'm a repeat customer) and that qualifies me a free drink. She rolled her eyes as I showed her my stamps and then said "you're good" after she realized it's a free drink. After she made my drink, she said "we close at 6pm by the way" as a way to make me feel bad for coming in and insinuating that I should've come earlier. I know Cara M., the previous manager of 5 years and who is my former high school classmate, and I've been coming to Dirty Penguin since it opened years ago. However, there has been a change in baristas and in turn a different display of customer service that I've seen recently. I visited for the first time and unfortunately didn't have a great experience. When I ordered my drink, someone at the counter yelled my order across the shop even though there were only about three customers inside, which felt unnecessary. When I walked away, the barista also made a comment about the decaf drink that came across irritated. My friend had ordered a decaf beverage as well around the same time. While I was trying to focus on some work, one of the employees from the counter sat with a friend near the cashier area and they were speaking very loudly. Their conversation included comments about someone being Asian and arguing about whether someone was Black. It felt uncomfortable and unprofessional to overhear that kind of conversation while sitting in the shop. I hope the staff receive some basic customer service and professionalism training, as the atmosphere made it difficult to enjoy the space. read more

ORDERED: Strawberry Feels & Sea Salted Caramel TASTE: I personally had the Strawberry Feels while my husband ordered the Sea Salted Caramel. The strawberry wasn't overpowering and I could still taste the coffee. The sea salted caramel had the sea salt foam so NOT using a straw is best so you can get the foam with every sip. It wasn't that sweet but I think because we were expecting it to be sweeter that it was a little underwhelming. SERVICE: The barista was friendly. She was quick to take our order and make our drinks. It was like 8am on a Thursday so there was only 1 other person there. So can't comment on speed of service during peak hours. VIBES: The inside was a lot bigger than I was anticipating especially since the outside was so unassuming. We almost drove right past it. There is a lot of seating and a "play area" for kids. The barista mentioned that a lot of people tend to study here. PARKING: Again, it was early morning so parking was easy. We got a spot right in front. The plaza has a lot of other businesses so it probably can fill up during peak hours. TLDR: Overall, it was enjoyable and their menu is large enough that I would come back and try other drinks. Had the worst experience here today. From start to finish it was unbelievably horrible. The customer service was some of the rudest I've ever encountered and the food and coffee were both disgusting and overpriced. I was definitely lied to by the cashier about the vegan options as they definitely could have made me an actual vegan meal instead of claiming they were sold out of the vegan items and instead overcharging me to "veganize" a non vegan dish. It also smelled funky in the cafe and the cleanliness was definitely lacking! They are truly living up to the "dirty" part of their name! I would highly not recommend this restaurant to anyone, even my worst enemies. I want my money back asap. read more

I've been coming to this place for many many years to the fact, and to the point that most of the staff know me and my family by name and order. Being a business owner, I had to be in a meeting at a certain time and I called 40 minutes before I was to show up at dirty penguin. I called five times and when I got there it was dead inside. And even though I dialed while I was even standing inside the shop, there was no phone ringing at all. I asked the woman who works there. She said her name was Maya. I asked why they don't answer phones and she told me that they don't answer phone numbers that they think is scam or spam which doesn't make any sense because my phone number is not registered as a scam it sounds like maybe they didn't answer or she was just lazy. When I told her that I've called multiple times so it's pretty obvious I wasn't a scam caller. She said they are very busy. Again They were only two people inside the coffee shop aside from myself. I don't know if April still owns this shop but if she does, she needs to fire this girl. horrible customer service does not care about making money for the business or for the business owner and was quite disrespectful. Let me explain: The Dirty Little Penguin is located in Chino Hills and in an area that is shared with other businesses. I ordered the rose latte, which means I ordered coffee by mistake. No one's fault but my own. For me, in general, coffee is pure smell. No offense to anyone who loves it. This beverage might be absolutely wonderful to someone who loves coffee. I have tried over the years to enjoy it, but I'm just not shook on coffee myself. However, I had it made with oat milk, which was not so bad. I'm not falling in love with coffee anytime soon; I see now that they have coffee-free drinks that I cannot wait to try. I also had the raspberry vegan cake donut that was wickedly delightful.
