On August 18, 2018, I was assaulted by two of your staff after I wanted to show a dear friend, visiting the area for work, one of the many pearls of living here and headed to Port Costa for an evening of laughs, adult beverages and good food. Sound familiar? I hope you have cameras you can refer to in order to see if what I say below, matches what you can see occurring. I hadn't been for some time but we parked ourselves at the bar, without being asked, I offered my credit card and we ordered draught beer. Your male, emaciated bar tender with stringy, dirty hair had to change a keg, I wondered if that was what upset him. As your staff were busy, I pulled menus from the holder in front of me to show my friend what food was available. I wondered if that upset them. We sat near some young men that were celebrating a birthday and helped them take a photo of their group. We chatted with others at the bar as the ambiance at this bar invited, at the time. I was discussing how easy it is to enroll to vote with some young men at the bar, as they walked away, another man at the bar remarked 'as long as they don't vote republican', he and I began to discuss how the GOP party had changed over the years. I later became pretty sure, this was what upset your emaciated bar tenders. My male friend asked where the men's room is located, I explained. He had finished his drink before he walked away. He was gone for some time because he discovered a shop to browse and I was happy that he was exploring. I realized that his empty glass was taken and nobody asked if we wanted another. Then I realized that our menus were taken and nobody asked if we wanted anything. I hadn't left my seat. I was there, to be asked, the entire time. I tried to get his drink replaced before he returned, unsuccessfully over about 15-20 minutes. At one point, there were 4 people behind the bar. There was a dark skinned man dressed in black with a red tie standing at the bar, I assumed he was the manager. He looked at me over the top of his alcoholic beverage he was enjoying without any acknowledgment, several times. He just stared and drank. I'm very familiar with this working alcoholic character. There are two places to work when there is alcohol being served, one side of the bar or the other. Their consumption is the priority. The new people to arrive to our right ended up having an issue with your female emaciated bar tender, regarding over billing to their tab. They had difficulty getting it resolved. I would estimate that I spent about 30 minutes trying to get my friends drink replaced, with a simple draught beer. It was a while since I was able to enjoy your bar as I was desperate to catch the eye of any of your staff who were completely ignoring me. At no point, did anyone look back at me and acknowledge that I was trying to buy more. 'I'll be with you in a moment', is the typical acknowledgement, but your staff said, nothing. There was a man standing to my left that could barely stand up, your emaciated female bar tender took his order and I know that he just finished his drink. He could barely speak but got his straight up shot glass refilled. I was appalled. That is not only illegal behavior, it is deeply irresponsible. Do you have children or grandchildren that ride on our roads? Do you want this guy to pour himself behind the wheel of a vehicle and drive near them? It became abundantly clear at this point, that for some unclear reason, we were being ignored, I had been watching carefully for well over 20 minutes by this stage and it wasn't that there was a priority schedule being addressed. I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to lose my temper. But finally, I had enough. I got up and walked over to the register and demanded my card back. It never occurred to me not to pay, I just wanted to make it clear, we were leaving. Your emaciated bar tender with the stringy, dirty hair began to tease me about whether he was going to give me my card back. He made me beg for my card. When he pulled my card out of the stupid spot it had been hidden, I snatched it from his hand. For the first time in my life, I was promptly assaulted by your male, emaciated bar tender when he grabbed my arm that was holding MY card and by your alcoholic, dressed in black that had grabbed both my arms from behind, telling me that he is a Police Officer. (not after you've been sucking down alcoholic beverages while glaring at me) My friend stepped in pulled your emaciated male bar tenders hand off my arm, your alcoholic in black, finally backed off long enough to flash a crappy plastic badge, my friend paid the bill in cash then we left. The only alcoholic beverage I had consumed was the one draught beer your emaciated, male bar tender served me. I was sober. I was assaulted by your staff. I am appalled. I am disturbed. I am angry. This is an amazing place, and you should see it. Especially if you: * Like taking beautiful winding drives to tiny, out-of-the way places but don't want to be in the car for hours * Like history, especially Bay Area history (bootleggers and brothels -- that's how we do, son!) * Like drinking double cocktails ("All Drinks Are Doubles Unless Otherwise Requested") * Don't mind peeing in front of other people (no door on the stalls would normally bug me; here, it does not-- so yes, this place is magic) * Like drinking craft beers out of jam jars and using giant spools as tables * Appreciate a bartendress with extra sass (she's not yelling, she's Italian!) * Won't get offended by lack of process and general disorganization (It's not personal, and it's definitely not meant to be "bad service." They just do things in a weird, we've-always-done-it-this-way way. Because this ain't Gary Danko. And you'll live through it.) * Get all nostalgic when you see that vintage video game with the two big rifles on it (I know; we're very old) and all that crazy antique decor inside * Appreciate places that are rare, weird, old, full of interesting stuff to see, slightly nonsensical, and totally genuine * Miss the 70's read more

For years I've wanted to go to The Warehouse, hearing legends of hundreds of beers in a walk-in freezer. I had visions in my mind of what such a place would look like, and some were true, some not, but my first visit to The Warehouse did not disappoint. I don't know how some bikers manage to ride here and then go anywhere else without staying in The Burlington Hotel next door. Limit yourself to one or two beers if you can if you plan on riding out of here through the twisty mountain road leading here. And please, don't drink and drive, especially for the sake of the bikers who come here and for your own safety should you run into one. Wouldn't want to be you . . . The beers, the polar bear, the haphazard layout, the outside porch with room for dogs to run around, the dilapidated decor, the trains going by just a hundred feet away or so, and the general good-natured recklessness of the place make me happy to be an American. I hope to come back many times, hopefully with a bunch of friends in tow, hopefully to spend a lazy afternoon kicking it and not wake up the next morning feeling like hell with the wheels ridden off. This is the second and possibly last time I come to this place. There is one bartender in particular who was not just rude, but insulting as well. Let me tell you what happened... I previously been to this bar/restaurant with a friend of mine and was left was left with a very favorable impression. My wife and I had reservations at the Bull Valley Roadhouse and arrived to Port Costa a little early, so we stopped by Warehouse Cafe for a quick drink or two. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and it was understandably crowded. We ordered our first round of drinks without incident. My wife, who is not much of a drinker, complained that her drink was a little strong. I offered to go back to the bar and order her something a little more tame. She wanted a mojito. When I went to order the drink, the bartender said something to the effect of "are you kidding me? This is a biker bar. I am not going to make that." I said that it was for my wife and could she just make it. She then went to the other end of the bar and started talking to the patrons who were sitting down. Someone ordered a drink and she then said "yeah I will get it for you, as long as you don't order a mojito." She then looked at me and everyone started laughing. I was very embarrassed. In frustration, I ended up ordering a glass of wine. This experience was unpleasant enough for me not to want to come back. By the way, I have been to plenty of "biker bars". This is the first "biker bar" that I've been to where: a) there were kids running around, b) they have specialty drinks made with Midori and served chocolate oatmeal stout beer, c) there were not a lot of bikers. read more

OK I have a love-hate relationship with this place. It really depends on what bartenders are working. Some of the bartenders are freaking amazing! There fast they're helpful they know how to make a drink. But then there are some that are drunk cannot make a drink and pretty damn rude. They have a huge selection of beers most of which I've never had not all bartenders there have the knowledge of what some of the beers are like. I'm not expecting them to know everything about every beer, but on a Friday night I feel like a bartender should know what they're talking about when it comes to some of the beers. And probably not be so drunk that you can't understand them. Other than that I love this place! read more

I'm a huge fan of the warehouse restaurant/bar and the hotel next door, however they have to do something about the unlit parking lot. Not only is it poorly maintained (potholes everywhere) but as we discovered this past weekend.. it is completely unsafe. We were having a great time at the warehouse (and hotel) on 11/08/09.. but the fun ended abruptly when we discovered that one of the girls in our group had been brutally attacked and beaten in the parking lot. It was approximately 3am. It also took the police over an hour to arrive (this girl was bleeding from the head, and the assaliants were able to easily escape without any witnesses). We were told that this parking lot is owned by the railroad, and they have no control over it... however I think this is a case where either the bar or the city needs to step in and do something to make it safer. Doesn't matter who owns that lot.. this is the lot that your customers park in.. if it's not safe to park there, let your customers know. .. and install some lights. Since those kids got away with it this time.. who knows when/if they might come back. If you know kids are hanging out back there partying, call the cops and get them out of there. read more

Yes, this place is woo hoo! As good as it gets. You come here for four things: Number # 1, BEER! ( I'm assuming over 300 beers from all over the world, even the most......blah blah blah blah something something something something something and something ) You know what, I can't remember. I just got back and my brain isn't functioning. Number #2 - the ambiance is off the charts, taxidermy buffalo, seal, polar beer, etc etc. You see all sorts of ridiculous junk here, but they are awesome! I love bars with character! Number #3 -The whore hostel across the street, best night sleep I had ;) Number #4- It's out in BFE! It's just a little creepy town with creepy folks with their creepy bar and creepy brothel with an amazing lake, railroads, deers, and one awesome cool neighbor who hook me up with a ice cold water with ICE yo! You rock mr. neighbor guy! Ps. That is all you need to know, I don't want to spoil your experience here and if you do come, you better invite me! Pss. Don't drink and drive, you are saving a life. Oh, the Warehouse.... I have been visiting the Warehouse off and on for years now. I can't even recall the last time I had been here, but all I know is, I needed to pay an old visit. And this time I was able to introduce this one of a kind gem, to my fiance who had never been. One of a kind for sure, I think most reviews sum it up quite well, and have taken most of the words out of my mouth that portrays this place so well. It's awesome for sure. Old, nostalgic, and whimsical to say the least. The food ( from what I remember ) is decent. Drinks are strong and cheap : ) And they have a EXCELLENT selection of beers, with enough options to satisfy the pickiest of beer drinkers ( me). And the prices are yet again, cheap. It appears they run out of a few here and there, but with a selection as long as they have, I'm sure your settle on something to compensate. This visit, I got some sort of chocolate stout beer that I cannot recall the name of, but it was quite good. This particular visit was the most packed I have ever encountered it to be. They had a live band playing and the energy was flowen. And all though it was packed, it was still comfortably bearable. And, I just discovered they have some little store in the back, filled with tons of little nostalgic, warehouse worthy, antique items for sale. Guess I was a little too engaged with the food and bar, back in the day to have noticed...oh adult hood : ) As for my honey, he wasn't necessarily impressed with the place, but he enjoyed him self. An update is long overdue. I lived here for 3 years now and my perspective, as well as the area, has changed. I said in my last review Port Costa is not a food destination and boy, that is no longer the case. You can read about all the great things happening on the food front in my review for The Bull Valley Roadhouse. I admit since experiencing small town life, I no longer have the city-slicker mentality that anything in the woods is "creepy." I am actually embarrassed to have ever suggested such a thing. The East Bay is changing, some good, (lots of great places to eat, safer neighborhoods and better economies) and some of it is not so great, (classist undertones, exploiting landlords, exclusivity). So it's nice to see that the Warehouse stands its ground for being a fun and at-times rowdy place to enjoy the warm weather, music, trains and a beer. I see no reason why we can't have nice things without paying an unfair price. That's why I have a lot of respect for this corner of the Bay. I can get my high end cocktail for an anniversary or just cause I had a bad day, and still cross the street to celebrate the simple things in life like a view of trains and a good beer. The Warehouse (or Port Costa) is a place where bikers gather and young tourist from Oakland gawk uploading their findings on Instagram. Established locals gladly tell you the town's history and beemers park in a dusty lot. A mixed crowd can be seen here and I think that is something the Bay Area is losing. It is preserved here at the corner of this small town. It is the cake that you can eat too. read more

I used to come here as a child to eat dinner and play on a swing up on the hill outside (no longer exists) and now I come here with my dad sometimes to drink! This place is so unique, and for my family it really is a staple! Sometimes there's live bands which is nice. During the day time when it's nice enough to be outside, dogs are allowed. There is a blonde bartender names "Jen" has a terrible attitude, and a man named "Larry" very obviously ignored me until after the bar closed. That being said... The food is fantastic! I first learned about this place when my grandpa was telling me about a giant polar bear he shot in the 60's. He offered to take us to see it and eat dinner. He was pleasantly surprised with the Prime rib. He said he hasn't found a Prime Rib as good as this place. He knows since he use to cook it for a living at the Elegant Farmer in Oakland. I wish this place was closer, as I would come here more often This is my favorite Bar. It has some interesting decorations with 400 beers to choose from. Gotta love drinking out of a mason jar.! Get in your car, find highway 4, get off at the one exit that starts with an "Mc", or something, take a right and drive down a really skinny and windy road, keep driving, you're on the right track. Seriously, just keep on driving for like 2.5 miles and then the road ends. You'll find yourself in a dirt parking lot by the bay looking across at Benicia. It may have just been stupid luck, but I bet dollars to donuts that it's pretty standard to find motorcycles a plenty parked on the street. You'll get out of your car and you'll smell tobacco, lots and lots of tobacco. Ok, you're basically there, no you ARE there! Go inside the only place that's open, that's the Warehouse Cafe. It's brilliant. Lots of good beer, lots of fun stuff on the walls, lots of trashy conversation (either to partake in, or overhear), lots of good commentary from the bartender. I think everyone inside this joint lives up the stairs of this joint. Makes me want to live there too. Would make from a great alternate universe from the one I live in now. Beer, and a tub of popcorn, and a little friendly, laid-back, impolite conversation in a cavernous funky ol' bar at the end of a country road terminating in an unpaved, slightly junky, but sunny parking lot on the banks of the Carquinez Strait on a lazy Memorial Day...how much more Sixties can one get? Glo, my mother-in-law, and fairly new resident of Hercules, showing off her latest discoveries in the area, drove us to Port Costa and to the doorstep of this establishment on Memorial Day, taking us through the town of Crockett, along a windy road named the "Carquinez Strait Scenic Drive," then taking a fork in the road marked by a sign pointing to the "Port Costa Business District" and another sign informing us that this road was "Not a Through Street." Indeed it was not. The road ended in an unpaved parking lot beyond which ran the Amtrack line to Sacramento and then the Carquinez Strait flowing by beyond that. The "Business District" consisted of four buildings at the end of the street housing 6 businesses, one (the Warehouse Cafe) of which was actually opened for business on this Memorial Day. Because it was not Sunday.. they were not serving their apparently famous free sunday lunch with purchase of beer.. no matter.. When Gina the bartender noticed us wandering around exploring the space and the paraphernalia contained within.. she took us on a short tour.. directly to a sizeable walk-in fridge containing,so their sign claims.. 400 plus brands of beer, stout, and ale.. We were tempted to try the "Chocolate Stout.." but opted instead for the "Oatmeal Stout.." Cuz it sounded healthier. (and, of course, soda for the teenagers in our company) Because we were with minors, Gina did not sit us at the bar, but sat us at a huge round table, which, she claimed, once stood table-clothed and in posher surroundings in San Francisco, and around which, once sat diplomats of the old League of Nations just prior to the dis-bandment of that body and the establishment of the United Nations.. No reason for her to lie.. and besides that, she then plunked down two huge tubs of popcorn for us to munch on with our beer and sodas.. so what the hell.. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm 90% sure my friend Judith manufactured all of the previous reviews just to convince me to come here for her birthday next year. I despise this place - from the dead polar bear to the lousy meat to the salad bar that makes Sizzler's look like paradise to the scary patrons. I don't think there is anything approaching edible in the salad bar - makes Safeway's deli look healthy - can you say mayo and glow in the dark jello and unidentifiable glop? My to my dear friend's chagrin, after enduring this place for 4 birthday dinners, I just refuse to go here. Thankfully she had a BBQ at another friend's house for her bd last weekend. Best Bar By the Bay! I love this place. It's almost like you are taking a step back in time when you walk through the doors of the Warehouse Cafe. The bar is amazing with a huge list of beers from around the world, and a usually very friendly bartender who knows how to take care of all the different types of patrons. As you walk into the bar, Usually the first thing that I see is a GIANT Polar Bear that is standing up. Its not every day that you get to see a stuffed Polar Bear at a bar. Usually the wife and I will order from the bar and head outside where we can soak up the sun and watch the giant boats float down the Carquinez Straits. A great place to bring friends. I love Sundays - FREE salad bar with the purchase of a beer! I think there are over 300 beers to choose from. There's bbq if you don't want the salad bar (which consists of salads, chili, clam chowder). BBQ is links, chicken, tri tip or a combo of all three. My $8 got a HUGE plate of tri tip with baked beans and bread. Service is slow. Lots of bikers. Great live bands play on Sundays. It'll be hard, but bring a DD or try not to drink too much because the road to this place is curvy. read more

Came here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. This is definitely a random location, it's out in the middle of nowhere and right on the water. They have outdoor and indoor seating, with food served inside. This is a perfect place to meet up with some friends, grab a couple of beers and enjoy some great weather. They also have a walk-in cold door FULL of beers from all over the world, you just have to ask one of the bartenders to let you back there so you can choose which beer you want. A couple of recommendations: - there is a hotel next door that you can stay at for about $40 a night instead of driving home (it's a former whorehouse) - you can bring a igloo of your own beers and enjoy them at the hotel - your doggie will be welcomed at the outdoor area of the bar - definitely have a DD when driving back at night, the road is windy and dangerously curvy at some parts. - if you do stay at the hotel bring some snacks because there is no grocery store that is within walking distance I'll definitely be back, it was a fun evening and next time I'm going to be more prepared, by bringing my doggie and booking a hotel room! read more

Okay, I have a bias. The Warehouse Cafe is my favorite restaurant for dinner out. It is fun and funky and I like the food, like the wait staff, the service is good. They serve alcohol if you're into that. It's comfortable, to say the least. I love this place. It's been 13 years since I was introduced to this place, and it's never been convenient to places I've lived. I was first brought there because they have 200+ microbrewery beers on site and numerous others on tap. Well, it turns out (she didn't ask), I don't like beer. At all. They do have some microbrew rootbeer, however. When I first went to the Warehouse Cafe, their dinners were under $20. I'm a prime rib fan, so that's all I ate there for years. 13 years later, their meals are more like $25. $30 for lobster if I remember correctly. Totally reasonable for a big plate with at least two meals on it. (They do charge you for a split.) Their limited menu includes prime rib, a good steak, crab legs, lobster, and some combinations thereof. They have a so-so salad bar with really good clam chowder and rally good chili con carne. They bring you good sourdough bread. A cup of sauteed mushrooms accompanies the beef entrees. Lots of food. My brother ordered the lobster here. We're not the lobster types. The waitress sat down at our table and gave him the whole lobster lesson (they serve you the whole thing). I've seen them do this now on several occasions. Very down-to-earth. Really, really nice. Not pretentious at all. They only serve dinner on Friday and Saturday nights - and don't go the Friday after Thanksgiving 'cause it's a long drive for no dinner. They do summer barbecues on Sundays and serve the left-overs from the two nights before. It's kind of a funky biker bar the rest of the time. I've been there when there was live music. Mostly, it's juke box. They do have a full bar, and I've enjoyed many cocktails there. Just don't forget the dark, windy road ahead of you. :o) I've been at this place when a local kitty wandered through looking for crab and lobster tidbits. I've been there (shhhh) when someone brought a little dog in, and it was permitted to stay. It's just really, really comfortable. I've had my birthday dinner there for years and years. The junk that decorates the place, the wall-rug with the Last Supper on it, the stuffed polar bear with the dead seal at it's foot, the little weird gift shop thingy ... you have to experience it to believe it, I think. It's totally worth the drive. Don't know how they get away with it, but the bathrooms are up some stairs - definitely not wheelchair accessible. read more

A Follow-Up: I used to frequent the Warehouse during the Summer months, but must say that I'm bummed that Gina is no longer behind the bar and has left. Larry is awesome, but as others have posted here Jen (the blonde) has an attitude problem and acts like she is doing you a favor pouring you a Beer. Brenda (the brunette) is just as bad. They both have huge ego's and don't really strike me as being very happy in their lives. They suffer from "Big Fish in Small Pond" disease . . . and should have nothing to do with anything slightly related to "customer service." I know that the owner Ivana has gone through a "rough" patch over the last year, but she really needs to "clean" house and up her game. Otherwise, the Warehouse just becomes another place to say "Been There, Done That" and never go back. Let's face it, there are other establishments in the East Bay that carry a lot of really good craft brew with much more "professional" bartenders out there that enjoy what they do and don't act like they are doing you a "favor" serving you. read more

The menu is as odd as the decor. Burgers, hot dogs, BBQ and chicken paprikash. The beer offering is extensive but minus one star for not having a gluten-free beer option. Totally acceptable if this was in Racine, WI but it's in the SF Bay Area. The outdoor seating area is dog friendly. Someone's dog was running around off leash and sniffing around our food. My poodle snapped at it and the dog never came back. Don't miss the big stuffed polar bear or the window where sailors used to pay for a lady of the night! read more

I've been to this place only a handful of times, but each time gets better and better. The decor is off the wall, with random toys, chandeliers, a ten foot polar bear, yet it's also homey. I always notice something I didn't notice the the last time. I have only ever come here for dinner, which has been awesome every time. The menu is simple, basically steak, crab or lobster. I usually go with the Surf 'n Turf, which is a 1/2 lb of steak and a crab leg that measures about the length of my 4 year old niece's arm. Unfortunately the poor baked potato took the back seat at this meal. The dinner includes all you can eat salad bar and it only sets you back about 25 bucks. It's a great deal for the food and the experience. The cocktails are served in jam jars which fits this quirky place. Dinner is only served fridays and saturdays though! Pretty cool bar with a friendly bar tender, awesome decor, and a billion bottled beers, but almost nothing on tap. Also, as someone who was not wearing black leather, I felt a bit out of place. Amusing story: it took a bit for us to get our drinks because the bartender was taking an order from / being hit on by a rowdy biker dude, who finally asked for tequila and OJ. The bartender proceeded to pour an ungodly quantity of tequila into a mason jar, until the biker dude said, "Woah, what are you doing?!" "Oh, sorry," she replied, "I'll make you another." She then turned to the bearded guy in the cowboy hat featured in the lead Yelp pic above, and asked, "What do you want in your tequila?" Bearded guy made a noncommital grunt, and she proceeded to squirt a hint of orange juice into this jar-full of tequila and planted it in front of him, beside the glass from which he was already sipping. Thank god I found this place. I moved up here from Southern California where I left behind my favorite biker bar tucked away in the canyons. This place easily rivals my old stomping grounds on multiple fronts. The alcohol is well priced, the bar tenders are super funny and friendly, the crowd is a mix of bikers,locals,hipsters,hippies and everything in between. You can drink a beer and watch ships sail by and trains roll by. This used to be a brothel dating back to the 1800s and there is tons of rustic character oozing out of the entire place. You can pretty much do whatever you want here and have a good time. I love riding my Harley through the canyon to get here. I pass tons of cows on the way in. If you are big into beer, they have a giant cooler with over 100 beers from around the world, including delirium tremens. They also have all kinds of other mixed drink special too. If you are looking for something fancy and upscale this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for fun, relaxed and laid back, enjoy. Also, if you drink too much they have a hotel next door that is super cheap that you can sign up for at the bar. If you are afraid of twisting narrow country roads be advised that is the only way to get here. Sundays there is usually a live band, lots of bikers, classic cars and fun people having a good time. read more

If this were any other restaurant, I would give it 1 star, but the WareHouse Cafe is in a league of its own. This is definitely a one of a kind experience and when family or friends visit, we like to take them here. It was especially convenient when we lived in Crockett. It is dirty and the women's bathroom has no stall doors, so I have to hold it until I get home. But, the Prime Rib, the beer selection, and the otherworldlyness of this place make it a 5-star experience almost every time. Okay the one time we did come on a Sunday for the free BBQ, we were having a pleasant enough experience until some young, drunk dude lost his lunch all over the outside deck--we left immediately after that. I do lose my tolerance for any amount of quaintness in the presence of vomit. But, you cannot beat the warm, starry Saturday nights with good friends, good beer, excellent prime rib, and mushrooms sauteed in wine sauce. read more
