What a great surprise this place was and so worth the drive. Mackenzie was our server, she really knew the menu and tasty beverages. The salty bread was made in house, delish. The executive chef, Paul Boyer, greeted us and explained the various dishes. He made the very best risotto and my pork chop was moist, tender and flavorful. My wife and I drove out from Syracuse to listen to live music in the garden. The space is wonderful. The food was Meh! We had the House Salad, Thai Shrimp, my wife had the New England Clam with pasta and I had the Shrimp Scampi. The Salad and Thai shrimp were fine. My wife's clams and sauce was good. Like mine the pasta was over cooked. It was mushy. My shrimp and scampi sauce was not good. The shrimp was rubbery and the sauce was bland. I had to add lemon, salt and crack pepper. I just love this restaurant in the cute town of Clifton NY. It's always a wonderful menu with specials. High quality ingredients it seems with excellent quantities and presentation. Service is always friendly, knowledgeable and relaxed ( not overly attentive). The bread is outstanding and the salted chocolate caramel truffle at the conclusion was amazing. Bread & Spreads: Butter, Cream Cheese & Roasted Peppers, Mediterranean Olive & White Garlic Hummus. Nice Hot Earl Grey Tea, Caesar Salad, Korean Short Ribs. The Tea Cup warm to received the hot water poured over the tea. Caesar Salad a heaping mound of Lettuce, Grated Cheese, White Anchovies, and a nice Cheese Cracker on top. Korean Short Ribs so tender, fall off the Bone tenderness, delicious with a spoon of Hot Pepper Oil, and another one of Pickled Ginger. That Ginger was the perfect compliment to the ribs. The service was excellent and Maggie insured that all our requirements were meet without being intrusive. Our party of four had a variety of entrees and all were delicious. We finished off with coffee and dessert that put a great ending to an excellent dining experience. The Warfield is in an old building that is beautifully appointed and very comfortable with excellent offerings and outstanding service. How disappointing Drew Morris would be with his once charming and historic restaurant. It has been painted black inside and the brick has been whitewashed. The coziness and charm is gone. The food quality is now less than average. My LAST dinner there was so bad that I sent it back only to receive a replacement which was WORSE. What used to be a restaurant I was proud to tout to my friends, has become cold, uninviting and inferior in quality. So sad. Current management is only concerned with the bottom line and it shows. We LOVE Warfield's! We were in the area and stumbled upon this gem. It is in the cute downtown Clifton Springs in an older building. The atmosphere is very classy. First, they give you salty bread with 4 different dips. This is such a nice touch! The bread and all of the dips are amazing. The menu is really unique and there is something for everyone! My absolute favorite thing on the current menu is the duck with an espresso rub. AMAZING. But everything we get is so so good and unique. T Disappointed tonight in service at Warfields. Maggie finally came over and took our drink order after a half hour, brought my carafe of wine and said she would bring me a wine glass. 10 minutes later I found a bus boy and he got the wine glass. Maggie, the waitress, was not pleasant, abrupt and very inefficient. Additionally, she tried to over charge for the wine until I asked her to rerun the bill correctly. She returned with the new bill and shoved it on the table. The food was fine but the service makes me question whether I would go back! So sad. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here this past weekend. My husband and I went for my birthday dinner and every bite was delicious. We started off with some fresh oysters for an app. I ordered the tuna special and my husband ordered the duck breast which he raves about. My tuna dish came with broccolini and a jambalaya style rice. The tuna steak was huge so I would have been fine with just the tuna and broccolini. The rice was good but in my opinion was a little bit of an odd pairing as it had sausage and shrimp and was spicy while my tuna had a soy glaze. After our meals we both ended up ordering dessert - I had the s'mores cheesecake and my husband had the creme brûlée. I had dinner with a group of friends last Saturday at Warfield's in Clifton Springs. This was my third time to the restaurant, but only my first time for dinner. It was a great experience. On special the night we visited was a grilled swordfish special, served with rice pilaf, fresh lump crab and dressed pea shoots ($28). It sounded so good that 4 of the 5 of us ordered it and we all loved it. Each plate included 2 large (I would say 3-4 ounce pieces, each) swordfish steaks, over nicely seasoned wild rice, with a generous portion of fresh lump crab (i.e. not out of a can) and a side of fresh pea shoots lightly dressed in a citrus-y dressing. It had great balance, was a large portion size and was very tasty. Everyone except me cleared their plates; I opted to save one of the swordfish steaks to take home. The 5th diner in our party ordered the baked brie salad and the soup du jour. Both items were presented together. The soup was a kind of chicken-based thai-style curry, brought in a large bowl. The brie salad was interesting - a bed of greens with a couple large slices of in-house-baked bread slathered with brie which had been melted/roasted, and then the bread was placed on the greens - sort of like two large crostinis atop the salad. She finished everything she was served and remarked it was very good. Couple of general notes: Reservations are recommended. We always make an outing and visit the Main Street Arts Gallery across the street (highly recommended) for an hour or so before dinner. The gallery closes at or around 5 pm, so we time it to have a late lunch (my previous two visits were around 3 pm) or early dinner (this time we were seated between 4:30 and 5 pm). On the day we were there most recently, the place was nearly empty when we arrived but by the time we left around 6:30 pm, it was packed. There is street parking right in front of the restaurant, but not sure if there is an off-street lot. Service here is friendly and excellent. They do everything they can to make you feel welcome and to accommodate your requests. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive as well. We were never without filled water and our food came out without too much of a wait. When you sit for dinner, you will receive a basket of bread that they bake in house, and a tray of their 'tapenades' - four balls of spreads that include savory hummus, garlic butter, an olive tapenade and I think a roasted pepper cream cheese. I didn't eat any of this because I was trying to be gluten- and dairy-free that night, but the rest of my friends decimated it. One friend almost licked the plate that the tapenades were on! The menu is fairly extensive and changes with the seasons; they are fairly well known for their prime rib, and all of the dishes we saw come out of the kitchen looked great. Portions are hearty and though prices are a little higher (this is a white-table-cloth kind of dining experience) you get a good quality meal. And with desserts and baked goods made on premise and a nice wine and beer list, this is a place that can satisfy any dining tastes and most dining preferences and restrictions. read more

Absolutely delightful! Found this amazing gem "accidentally," while on a cross country road trip for our 25th Anniversary. Our dinner and experience was a definite highlight of this trip. We happened to get seated in the fairytale like garden at the gazebo table at dusk, just as the twinkle lights came on and the fireflies came out. Absolutely magical setting, impeccable service, and exquisite dishes with unexpected flair. My husband and I had an early dinner on Saturday, August 17th - our first time at this lovely restaurant. Jessica, our server, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Our service was perfectly timed and the atmosphere was warm and calm. Of special note were the chicken corn chowder, the chocolate/coffee-rubbed ribeye and the shrimp tagliatelle. Each was beautifully presented and enjoyed immensely. The crowning glory to our dinners was the S'mores dessert . Scrumptious. Before leaving we purchased some pastries from the on-site bakery. I don't yelp often but I'm compelled to after our world class dinner and bakery experience tonight with Chef Phil and Warfields. I'm visiting from Seattle, and I've had stints along the way in many culinary hotspot cities - NYC, San Fran, Boston, London, to name a few. We started with the oysters, which came simply dressed with a mild horseradish cream and finely ground pepper, and they were delicious. Listen, oysters fresh with bright acidic liquor anytime of the year is impressive, these were delightful. The Caesar salad was so perfectly dressed and adorned with three beautiful anchovy and a Parmesan crisp. A Caesar without anchovy is, I'm afraid, a romaine salad with croutons. Then, the main course was eggplant Parmesan like I've never had before. The eggplant somehow remained as steaks, not hammered to a pulp, yet they were sumptuously tender, with mozzarella cheese and a breading perfectly seasoned. To top the night off, we got the bakery and grabbed freshly prepared peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and lemon tarts. After a meal like this, I had to meet the chef. I was graciously allowed in the kitchen and got to meet the mastermind behind this exceptional menu and food. Chef Phil. He's as unpretentious as this part of this beautiful country of ours., but I promise you, he could match skills with any chef in the world. Absolutely amazing! Happened upon this gem while out and about and so glad we did. This will be on our list of regular haunts. The calamari appetizer was nicely spicy-an explosion of layers of flavor. Mixed olives and peppers, very tasty marinara and topped with parmesan cheese. The chocolate coffee crusted Ribeye was perfectly prepared and loaded with infused flavor. Tons of sauteed fresh mushrooms covered the steak and mashed potatoes. My husband loved it! I had the lamb chops with mushroom risotto and sautéed broccolini. The honey mustard lamb sauce was incredible! Best lamb chops I've ever had! Forgot to mention the soft homemade bread with crispy crust served with a plate of olive tampenade, whipped butter, garlic hummus and a whipped cream cheese and red roasted pepper spread to choose from. Dessert was strawberry shortcake with homemade strawberry ice cream over strawberry scones topped with freshly whipped cream and a new dessert we've never tried before: mixed berry amaretto semifreddo consisting of homemade mixed berry frozen custard, housemade berry jam, fresh blueberries, black raspberries and real whipped cream. The surprise at the end was housemade salted chocolate caramels. Is there anything these Chefs don't do well? Absolutely the best meal we've enjoyed in years and worth every penny. The chefs are true artisans. The dining room is beautiful. Outside seating with a lovely fountain and gardens is available. Service was pretty incredible, too! My wife and I went here to give it a shot. We live not too far away and have heard good things from my wife's coworkers. They offer some free bread and toppings. There were 4 kinds which went well with the bread. It was a nice homemade fresh loaf with a slightly salted crunchy crust. My wife got a roast vegetable salad that had beets and some other goodies in it. The only negative thing she would say about the salad was that the beets tasted more like they were bottled or canned beets and not roasted from fresh beets. She ordered the roasted duck entree and I had the steak and fries. Her duck was very delicious and she enjoyed it highly. My steak was cooked to my specification of medium rare and the fries and carrots it came with were good. My only minor issue was the sauce that was on the steak was a little too salty for me. I would prefer a slightly blander tasting sauce and a more seasoned steak. There was a small touch of red sauce on my plate which I'm sure was just a small spill they missed when they took it out. After dinner, we did get a loaf of there homemade bread to take home which was nice. Overall, I would say Warfields was a nice dining experience. Sitting in the heart of Clifton Springs, it has a nice touch of elegance to a small town. The horse pictures on the wall were nice. The town of Clifton Springs looks like a movie set for the cutest best Christmas movie of all time. Even the funeral home is cute... from the outside, I haven't been on the inside- yet. But I would like my funeral guests to be charmed so I'm keeping it open as a possibility. Nestled in the heart of the village you'll find Warfield's Restaurant. Restaurant, banquet hall and bakery all in one, Warfield's is a one stop shop for dining and events. We were there for a birthday lunch and my lunch choice was a lobster roll at a low $14 price point. The roll was grilled to perfection, and stuffed with Asian slaw and lobster meat then drizzled with butter. I hesitated because I think of the lobster roll as summer food and it was near freezing outside but it looked too good to pass up. I am so glad I went for it. The lobster was sweet and tasty and the butter instead of mayo in the roll was a win. The price was unbeatable. The chips were crunchy and fresh. My lunch companions had the steak salad and the fish fry with broiled fish. Everything was really tasty and well made. We finished up with the poached pear cobbler topped with chocolate ice cream. This was the only area of improvement for me, I would have loved to taste more pear and less topping. All in all, Warfield's is absolutely adorable. Clifton Springs is a cute stop just off the thruway. I always like to give the day trip option with my outside of the city reviews and MY day trip always includes a hike. You can hit the Ontario Pathway trail to get waterfall views just outside Phelps. Or stroll through the village in Clifton Springs and see the swans and ducks on the creek near the hospital. I think they are maybe pets, but they are really pretty. read more

Mrs. Bombay suggested a Friday night at Warfields because we have previously been impressed with their country charm and unique and delicious menu offerings. This occasion would surpass all others as we opted for outdoor dining in their park-like setting. Beautiful beyond belief due in part to the fabulous weather this night. Warm bread with 5 different toppings although the Bombays prefer plain old butter which is one of the options. A moderately priced wedge salad was plenty large enough for the Bombays to share and there is no talk of "plate charge" in this country setting. Mrs. Bombay opted for the light dinner of skirt steak cooked perfectly medium rare and gently place on three round "toast points" as she described them. Adorned with some greenery and special sauce and it was a delight. The senior Bombay went with a light dinner as well ($15) and was delighted by the barbecue shrimp over corn cake. All very tasty although needing some good, old-fashioned cocktail sauce to supplement the roumallade (sp) sauce which was actually quite pleasing in its own right. No room for dessert although the menu was surely enticing. Out the door for $50 including a generous tip. We might as well have been in Paris. read more

Let me paint a picture for you! A party of nine undemanding artist on a not so busy Thursday night had reservations for seven @ 5:30pm. Planning to attend a program starting across the street @ the Main St Arts @ 7pm. It took them 30 minutes to put a table together for 9 in an adjacent dining room with no other guest. The waitress took drink orders @ 6pm when she returned someone alerted her we had an event starting @ 7. She then became irritated & impatient with each order & guest. At this point we all tried to accommodate her to make her job as easy as possible. Then a member of our group heard a very derogatory remark from her behind the waitress station. Checking out @ the front desk in front of the main dining room w/other guest in ear shot, the animosity from the waitress escalated to a shouting match. She accusing our table of mean remarks toward her. Never once did a manager or owner step-in to intervene & calm the situation. Dining in a restaurant that seems to pride itself on excellent food diminishes the total experience with bad service & management. Such an unpleasant experience reduces the excellently prepared menu by the kitchen to a moot point. read more

Based on the reviews and our hunger we went in. First impression was OMG! We were greeted by very friendly hostess and seated outside per our request. Great decision. Very nice atmosphere. Our waiter, Alfred was wonderful ! Very Professional!! Pleasant and helpful. I took his advice and ordered the Lobster Roll and a cup of chouder. My wife ordered a salad and a Lobster Roll as well.
