Great food! When we pulled up, we were a little suspect... but once we decided to go inside we were pleased. We ordered the garlic edamame, the mussels which were absolutely delicious, the pot stickers (which contained beef) and the fried shrimp and vegetable tempura. These were all appetizers! We ordered a sexy roll, a dragon roll, the raw cucumber roll with fresh fish, two bento boxes, one with salmon and one with chicken katsu. This place is so good, definitely one of the better sushi places I've had. There was a lot of people eating here on a Wednesday night, and I can see why!! Garlic edamame (4/5): such a perfect appetizer to start off your meal. It was super garlicky and there was a whole bunch of mini garlic pieces at the bottom. I just wish they offered a spicy garlic edamame!! Fresh oyster (5/5): one of the best oysters I've ever had at a restaurant. The oysters were indeed super fresh. They were nice and meaty and the flavor was wonderful. The price is also great too, 4 oysters for around $10!! This was the star of the entire meal for me. I would come back solely for this. Dragon roll (3/5): this was pretty standard, not the worst or the best dragon roll I've ever had. It was average. I wouldn't order a roll from here again. This is hands down one of the best sushi spots in the Bay Area. We have moved around states & all over Cali. Now residing in Midwest and we came home to visit and wasabi is just top tier! Always so fresh, without having to go to a high end and pay super $$ for a roll. Rainbow roll was amazing, and we enjoy the sashimi platters from here. And as always, service was great! read more

But on a wednesday night even though there were a lot of people we got a table pretty quickly. The wait was worth it. I was told I absolutely had to try this particular sushi place while visiting Livermore. I was definitely not disappointed. I got a roll and some mackerel nigiri. Mackerel nigiri is one of my favorite things so I pretty much test it out everywhere. This was melt in your mouth delicious. The roll was great too, the fish was very fresh as were the other ingredients. They seem to do a very busy lunch business so service was a little slow and I had to ask a couple of times to get refills on beverages, but the service staff were all pleasant so it wasn't that big of a deal and didn't detract from my experience. Just worth a mention that if you wanted a super quick lunch this might not be the place for you. A pretty disappointing second visit. I remember enjoying my first visit, so I went back recently with high hopes. The atmosphere as soon as I walked in did not create a good second impression. It was hectic, with lots of take-orders going out. It was loud, with music suitable for a dance club, but not dinner, and just generally very very casual and sterile. But the food should be good... right? To be honest, the sushi was very disappointing. The rice wasn't great, the fish was not cut in any sort of refined way, the temperature was off. It was just assembly line produced, low quality food. Sitting at the bar made the experience worse. The fish was not handled with any sort of care or respect by the cooks, which dampened the appetite. It's probably just not the right place for me. read more

I enjoy the food here but the service is consistently lacking. The last time I dined here, my husband and I ordered 4 rolls. 3 arrived and 1 I had to flag down a waiter and ask if the 4th was still coming since it had been about 10 minutes since the rest of the rolls were brought to the table. We needed to leave so I asked if they could just cancel the order but then they ended up bringing it out a couple minutes later so I just asked for it to go. This time the same exact thing happened. 3 rolls arrived, the 4th they brought after we were done eating dinner. I thought they just weren't going to bring it. No one ever came and checked on us so I didn't ask for it. So once again I just took it to go since they wouldn't just cancel the order, which I don't understand. We tried their veggie udon, tempura udon, chicken donburi (which came with miso soup and salad), and chirashi sushi (also came with miso soup and salad). The udon broth was delicious and the noodles had a nice, chewy texture. The tempura had a light batter - crispy and not oily. The chicken donburi was a hearty entree - great flavor and lots of fluffy rice. The sashimi in the chirashi entree was fresh and firm. Miso soup was decent but that salad dressing was amazing. This is one of my fav sushi spots in Livermore. My sister and I stopped here on a Sunday night. It wasn't that busy at all, however it was an early dinner @4:30ish. We walked in and they brought us to our seats right away. They are so attentive friendly and fast!! They brought our food with in 10 minutes of ordering. Came here for lunch with co-workers (6 of us) for lunch. We were sat right away and orders taken very quickly. Ordered Garlic edamame for starters. Came out quick and warm. Excellent way to start the meal! The lunch bento box was a great lunch for the price. It comes with a choice of two entrees ( I ordered the teriyaki chicken & beef), rice, soup, salad & plain edamame. The steak was a little fatty but it had a good flavor and was not overpowered by the teriyaki sauce. Chicken was nice and charred with a good flavor as well. Definitely a good go to for a nice filling lunch! I've also tried the katsu chicken on a separate occasion and that is very good as well. Fried to a golden brown and the perfect crispy/crunchy chicken meal. I do not eat sushi (I know it's a sushi restaurant) but everyone who I know who has had the sushi here says it's excellent. Wasabi Bistro has been on my bookmarks for a long while and I just never took that time to really go through the pictures and reviews to make the decision to finally stop by. I always figured since it was in Livermore that it was more cooked sushi rolls and less fresh fish options - but I'm glad that I was proved wrong! Finally stopped by for a midday lunch (and couldn't stop coming after that)! The parking lot was predominantly empty. Located in a strip off right off the freeway, it was easy to get to and plenty of parking. The restaurant has black tinted windows, so you can't tell from looking outside in that it is opened, but if you look up, there is a neon open sign that is on to let you know. The hours are also posted right outside the door for your convenience. Walking in, there is an iPad that you can use to add yourself to the waitlist. But the last few times I've been there, a server usually comes to greet you and seat you right away. You are greet by the sushi bar and a list of their specials/fish are posted. Take a picture before you head into the main dining room because there are no other signs that tell you what specials they have. They have a variety of everything from sushi rolls, nigiri, appetizers, bentos, and much more. I was pretty impressed by the variety and even more so with the quality of the food! They get a solid 5 stars from me for first offering mirugai (giant clam) nigiri, and secondly, for actually having it in stock, and thirdly, at a reasonable price! Amakara couldn't even (and they have that printed on their menu and NEVER have any). Things I've tried that you can't go wrong ordering here: garlic edamame (5.95), kaki fry (10.95), unagi handroll (7.95), tako (4.95), unagi (6.5), kani (6.5), ikura (7.59), amaebi (9.95) - comes with fried shrimp heads, chu toro (9.95), toro (12.95), lion king (12.95), and exotic roll (18.95). Staff were friendly and the food portions were huge! It was the combination of reasonable prices, fresh fish availability and variety, and consistency for me. The only thing I wish is that they had better tints for the windows because during late lunch the sun hits harshly and gets annoying in your face and that they refilled my hot tea a little more often. They definetely get super busy, so be patient! I honestly prefer the food from Wasabi Bistro over Amakara - if only they have a full bar, life would be complete. read more

We used to go here often when they haven't expanded and service was fast even tho it was smaller and always packed. Since they expanded it feels like they're under new management. Food is still good but it usually takes longer to get our food, which is one of the main reasons we don't go here as often as before. At the time we went here I was pregnant with my daughter and couldn't eat the raw sushi rolls, lol they did look delicious and fresh, according to my husband and best friend the rolls were so good. I did get a baked/tempura roll and that was yummy. I've been here after giving birth and everything is always good!! I came with two friends and we ordered the Medium Sashimi platter, Negitoro roll, and three uni shooters. Items ordered: ~The negitoro (bluefin tuna belly) roll : small but the negitoro melts in your mouth. ~Sashimi Platter: This platter comes with a variety of sashimi. My favorites were toro, salmon, and scallop. Salad, miso soup, and tempura are included. The best thing about the sashimi platter is the fried fish at the end of the meal. The fried fish is delightfully crispy and you can even eat the bones and cartilage. ~Uni Shooters: These drinks are amazing. I have tried oyster shooters before, but these are on another level. Came here on a Thursday around 11:30am and got seated super quick. The place was about 1/2 full however i do hear that this place get pretty packed! Note: They dont take reservations :( My group ordered some edamame for appetizer which was good. For my meal I ordered the lunch bento box and got salmon teriyaki and 3 piece nigiri (Shimp, tuna and salmon). I thought the bento was good but nothing over the top. It also came with edamame, miso soup, an orange slice and a house salad. During lunch the bentos are around 15 bucks for a 2 items bento box which is not bad deal!! We did have 7 people but I did notice that the food did take a bit of a long time to come out. Overall decent spot to get Japanese food in the area. One the better bang for your buck sushi spot. We got a total of 5 rolls and the total came a little over $60! Parking is plentiful, huge lot. The wait time is a bit long, we were third in line with a small party but still took close to 20 mins. Service was also very slow. It took a good ten minutes before someone came to take our order and another 23 mins (yes we timed it) before our food came out. My Dad and I came to Wasabi Bistro for lunch which is located in a small shopping center with parking available. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and clean. They offer a Waitlist on Yelp, but luckily we were seated immediately. For lunch, my Dad and I both ordered the Lunch Bento Box, which is a fantastic deal! With the two choices, you get miso soup, salad, rice, edamame, and orange--all for about $15! For my two choices, I chose the Nigiri and Sashimi. The nigiri that came with the bento were tuna, salmon, and shrimp. For the sashimi, I had the option to choose tuna, salmon, or albacore--I chose salmon my favorite. Although the sides that came with the bento were nothing special, the quality and freshness of the fish were phenomenal! The cuts of the sashimi were thick, and the salmon was smooth and buttery. The fish to rice ratio for the nigiri was good too! The only downside, if any, was the wait time for our food. After being seated, it took our server time to acknowledge us and take our order. After ordering, it took a little over half an hour for our food to come out. Considering the restaurant wasn't too busy, it was a little frustrating. Although, our server was apologetic and said he appreciated our patience. Shoutout to my Yelp friend Nha T. for inspiring me to get Japanese food for lunch! Also, to Dexter D., who gave me a heads up on the wait time at Wasabi Bistro. Overall, it's a great place to check out for reasonably priced and good quality Japanese food. Ahh darn! I love the food here (most specifically, the sushi rolls), but my experience last night wasn't the greatest. My partner and I visited for dinner last night on a Saturday at around 5:45 PM (for what we thought would be a quick meal), and we were happy to be seated without a wait since the restaurant looked like the main dining area was already filling up. To our right, there were probably a dozen of bags of food waiting to be picked up so they were getting pretty busy! Once seated we were given our menus; as we were waiting for our food, we tried getting the server's attention to take our order but the server walked straight past and ended up going to another table seated after us first. Oof. A few minutes later, our order was taken! We ordered the fresh oysters (comes with 4) and G-Dragon and Lion King rolls. We didn't receive all of the food until nearly an hour later. I guess it was nice being able to watch the Warriors game on their TVs to pass the time. The oysters came maybe 20 minutes after ordering, the G-Dragon 30 minutes after that, then the Lion King another 5-10 minutes after. We noticed the tables around us getting their food at staggering periods of time too (i.e., a family of 4 next to us all got their entrees at different times; once one would finish eating, another would just get their food which prolonged their stay). Meanwhile, other tables seated probably 20-30 minutes after us were getting some orders of their food first. Unsure if they were short-staffed or if it was moving like this for other reasons, but it just felt they were operating super ineffectively getting all of the items that are "quicker" to prepare out first rather than moving table by table. By the time we left, the lobby was completely full of customers waiting to be seated / pick up their to-go orders. There were even people waiting outside, with many not looking so happy with the long waits either. The food was delicious, but I wish they would've informed us of how long it was going to be before our orders were taken (it would've been nice to even be acknowledged with how long we waited) since we started getting hangry lol! The saving grace was the cashier who was quick to help us get our check and to-go food immediately after we finished our last bite (likely because there were so many people waiting for a table too). I'd recommend not visiting during their peak times for better and quicker service. read more

Wasabi Bistro is my family's go-to spot if we ever have a sushi craving to satisfy. Their menu overall is reasonably priced, and I really like their fish-to-rice ratio. The sashimi here is also super fresh! If I were to recommend one roll on their menu, it would definitely be the Orange Daisy. The salmon on each piece was big, and it comes with crispy salmon skin! Strike two... It was bound to happen. As the years go by a favorite restaurant gets a lot of good reviews, get's popular, expands and quality begins to suffer. I've been coming to Wasabi Bistro for nearly a decade and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. A couple years ago, they expanded into the space next door, and I noticed a slight drop in quality, cleanliness and overall attention to detail. Sadly, this has really become an ongoing thing. Since the pandemic they've started staging to-go orders in their small dining area. It doesn't look great, and I think they should reconsider how to handle this. I hope they read this review and take action. On the previous visit just prior to this one, my wife ordered tempura and the sauce that was delivered was rancid. I mean, horrifyingly bad. They took it away and brought us another sauce, which wasn't tempura sauce, but at least it wasn't rotting. Tonight we decided to again to give Wasabi Bistro a try. It's was a Monday night and a lot of other restaurants were closed, which might explain our experience, but doesn't excuse it. We were seated promptly and my wife ordered tempura and I ordered a sushi roll. My wife received her tempura quickly - within 10 minutes, but as the time dragged by, my sushi was no where to be seen. The tables near us received their sushi, granted these were big orders, but as we waited for my dinner, the dining room began to fill with customers, many of them looking for to-go options. We also ran out of water, and could not seem to get anyone's attention for a refill. While waiting you begin to notice other things, like the nasty greasy handprints on the windows and general lack of care. 40 (FORTY) minutes after ordering, I finally received my roll. There was an apology made, and we finally got our waters refilled, but no offer of compensation. My wife had eaten her fill of tempura, and sat there while I ate my sushi. The sushi was good, as was the tempura, but the whole experience was lacking. I'm kinda sad. It's been my to-go spot for sushi in Livermore for ages and I hope they can fix these issues. I have some recommendations... Hire another sushi chef for the 5-8pm rush on Mondays. Use some of the expanded area as additional sushi-making space if needed. Stage to-go orders somewhere else, either close off a portion of the smaller section of the restaurant - or figure some other way of doing it. Having over a dozen people standing around while you eat is off-putting. Thoroughly clean after lunch - there's no reason greasy kid prints should be on the glass. It's just gross. Check sauces before sending them out. That tempura sauce was probably dangerous. I hope they take this in review in the way it's intended, as a desperate plea from a sushi lover and faithful customer of many years. read more

At 5:30 PM we had about a 10 minute wait for our table to clear, they didn't take advance reservations but do feature a wait list. The interior consists of a long and narrow seating area, typical of strip mall setups. We ordered the Wakame Salad, Chef's Choice Nigiri Mix, Dragon Crunch Roll, Hwe Dup Bub Chirashi, Chicken Teriyaki Rice Plate, Tonkatsu & Beef Teriyaki Box and Salmon Teriyaki & Sashimi Box. Service was good, the roll took a while and was the last item brought to our table. Portions were generous and tasty. My Nigiri Mix consisted of large thick slices of fresh fish. This place has an extensive menu with all the bases covered excepting ramen. This is one of my better Japanese restaurants; menu, portions, taste, quality and value. The only issue I had was some confusion about a separate roll take out order, they thought it was dine in. Definitely repeatable, lucky you live in Livermore!. read more
