I am very happy I decided to give Wasabi a try. My experience with Asian cuisine in North Carolina hasn't been the greatest but I was very impressed. The pork gyoza was absolutely amazing! I have ordered take-out from here during my Trendy craft nights but have never enjoyed a sit-down meal until Friday night. My husband and I were seated by the front window which was great because it gave us a little more room, and quiet, from the other diners. We went around 6ish which is earlier than we normally eat dinner on date nights, but we were trying to catch a movie around 7. It may have just been the time we went, but there were an unusual amount of families with small children. This didn't bother us too much since we have a 3-year-old of our own, but I would suggest dining here at 7 or later if you want to have a more adult-friendly meal experience. Now on to the food. We started with the edamame which was large in portion and tasted good. My husband ordered the Sexy Lady & I tried the Dancing Girl. Both were excellently presented and tasted great. Our server was friendly and all needs and expectations were met throughout our time there. We haven't tried other sushi restaurants in Jax so I can't compare and contrast; however, I would definitely recommend this to try out. Looking forward to our next time! read more

Okay so here goes...try to stay with me...first off most of the food was excellent. First time here woman greets us and tells us she isn't usually the server and she's very sad. Proceeds to tell us how a server hasn't shown up for work and she now has to work tables and she's very upset and will have to fire the server. Not sure why anyone would need to hear that as soon as they sit down but whatever. Weird start. She then smiles and says she's happy now though cause we are there. AWKWARD! Ordered apps, pork dumplings, edamame, tempura veg and shrimp. Everything came out quick, hot and delicious. Next round was 2 sushi rolls, pretty simple California and sweet potato roll. Good. We ordered the pad Thai for dinner to share. She said they make the best pad Thai ever and use the freshest ingredients. Ordered chicken pad Thai, it came out with tofu in it as well as the strangest chicken I have ever seen. I can only describe it as strips of uncooked chicken fat,couldn't even cut with a fork. We didn't eat it and asked for manager to switch to veggie. She came over and asked what's wrong. I told her that the chicken looked strange and she said it's fine. I said we don't want it and want to have veg pad Thai. She proceeded to tell me she had to "check with kitchen manager to see if chicken is bad" and she would get back to me. She said they would make us a new one but she doesn't like to "waste food". At this point I was done and ready to leave, she continued to talk. Asked me if I tasted it, told her no, she asked why...I said if something looks disgusting it make my stomach sick and I don't wanna eat. She still looked confused and finally walked to kitchen. Came back with the food and told me that she checked and the chicken is fine. Then said she is still going to fire the guy who made it since we didn't like it. Overall one of the most aggravating and uncomfortable experiences of my life. Truly a shame because the food and prices were excellent. Jessie is a GREAT representative of the restaurant. She was extremely friendly, knows how to connect with the customer, knows the menu very well and was very understanding when we initially were surprised they didn't have sit-in service. I expected a longer wait for take-out. Service was not only excellent but very quick. Again, with such quick service I questioned whether the food would be fresh. I was wrong. It was fresh and delicious. The typical rolls are avg size and amount (6). The special rolls were slightly larger than normal and had 2 more than normally experienced (8 lg pieces). Plenty of sauces, napkins and chopsticks were added. Wasabi employees are definitely aware of proper service. Though Wasabi is a smaller restaurant (even smaller with "covid") and not as noticeable driving by, I strongly recommend. As we ordered and waited at least 10 customers arrived for pickup and 4-6 more were waiting in line (which was attended to quickly). This is a great local spot, as someone who just spent 3 years in San Diego and absolutely loves fresh food, local restaurants, and most importantly sushi. They even have Orion which my husband and I were delighted to see as its super rare to find this beer at most restaurants. All of the food we have tried has tasted good. The spicy edamame has probably been my favorite. Excellent flavors! Jacksonville is nothing but mediocre chain restaurants so we are really happy that we found Wasabi so quickly and now know of at least one non-chain restaurant in this tiny town that is quality! Hidden gem. We walked through the front door of this unassuming place, and were surprised by the number of diners present: a good first sign. The service was prompt, helpful, very pleasant, and genuine. We ordered Jasmine green tea and cold drinks, appetizers, and entrees. The tempura vegetables were crunchy and light. The spring rolls were flaky, crispy, and delicious. The Christmas Tree Roll and Rainbow Roll were expertly prepared, artistic, full of texture, and delicious, too. The Salmon Hand Roll, Tuna Avocado Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll were also very, very good. The owner-manager was extraordinarily nice, and she remembered is from a previous visit. It looks like a little hole in the wall and is easy to pass by if you're not looking for it, but thanks to Yelp I found it with no problem. I'm not a sushi eater, but a quick glance at their menu and the reviews convinced me to give it a try. The server was one of the sweetest people I've ever encountered, and since the place wasn't busy at all, I had the chance to chat with her a bit and learned that her husband is in the military, she had just relocated there and didn't really know anyone, and was just REALLY happy that I was there and willing to talk to her. She made some great recommendations, so I had the pad thai which was delicious, then tried one of the Japanese wines, which was VERY sweet, but my trusty server was kind enough to warn me away from the one that probably would have put me in a diabetic coma. But perhaps even more entertaining, which made it even more worth the visit, was listening to the guy sitting behind me trying (very pretentiously) to educate his date on all things sushi, of which she was having none of it. When you're in town on business and don't know anyone, you get your entertainment wherever you can. But when he tried using the chopsticks and tossed a piece across the room, his date's laughter and his ensuing embarrassment made it ticketworthy. I was 8 weeks pregnant and really hungry and ordered myself a dish that I know was safe for me and my baby to eat. I ordered a fried rice and chicken with vegetable meal. As I was eating it, it didn't taste like chicken, it had gummy texture slippery and tasted really weird . I was feeling sick at that point. I kindly asked the waitress for another dish, because I told her I didn't like the taste and it didn't agree with my stomach. I got another meal and she had the nerve to tell me, "Don't do that anymore! We cook food for you, don't waste it". The waitress and her cook scolded me like as if I were their child . I was shocked (knowing my circumstances) and told her why I wouldn't eat something that didn't agree with my stomach, or in fact didn't taste right. I chose to eat there, but instead I was treated unfairly as a customer by a rude waitress and a cook. One of the first restaurants myself and my wife tried in Jacksonville, we were reluctant to try it, but it ended up being one of our favorite places in this small town. It's clean, cozy, service is great, and the food is good. The ambiance is nice and relaxing, but this place can get really full really fast; the inside is kinda small. Seems like their specialty is Sushi, though they also make other Japanese/Asian dishes. I tried the teriyaki chicken though, and was a bit disappointed, the sauce was very light and weak, and there wasn't much flavor in the chicken despite the impressive steaming skillet they serve it on. Their sushi IS better, and they seem to have legit sushi chefs here. I have had 3 rolls so far: dragon roll, sun fire roll, and the Volcano Roll. The dragon roll is delicious and you can't go wrong, it's the first one I tried and it's magnificent. The sun fire roll is very saucey but it's got too much going on in flavor, I'm not sure what the end goal was here. And the Volcano was unexpectedly delicious! It was crunchy deliciousness, tho be aware, it IS kinda small. read more

This place was really great, food and environment. the wait staff is all very nice and one of the times I had gone I was with a group of around 20 all military personnel and we for sure had our fair share of saki that night and they treated us very well. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the people were nice, the bathrooms and dining area was very clean and well kept. I am pretty hard on Sushi joints but this place was a pleaser! All of the staff were pleasant, greeting me quickly and some stopped to hold a few moments of conversation. Just a couple of appetizers successes on my list the Pork Gyoza Seaweed salad they are both great. A fan of the bar seats, the sushi cooler was in great shape and the proteins looked great! Sushi is pleasantly presented and I have not had anything less than an amazing roll of the speciality list. The fish had a STINKY fish smell, and if you're a regular sushi eater you know there's a difference between a normal fishy smell and a rancid fishy smell.
