I used to frequent Wasabi downtown until my husband and I moved to Pooler. It was hands down my favorite sushi place in Savannah. I was so elated once I saw another Wasabi in Pooler. The ambiance is really exquisite and the decor is beautiful. I went here twice with my husband. The first time the food was exceptional, I specifically remember the salmon tasting SO fresh!! Service was okay (our server didn't talk quite that much, which was fine). We went for the second time last Friday for my husband's birthday, so it was a big date night. The tiny restaurant was busy, which was no surprise. We had the same female server. My husband started off with a glass of cabernet and I water. We first had the beef dumplings, which took a pretty minute to come out but were delectable. We also ordered the Tiger Eye roll and two orders of unagi sashimi (another appetizer after the dumplings). This order of sushi took FOREVER to come out. Finally, for dinner, my husband had a noodle dish and I had the bagel roll (I forgot the full name). I can't stress how long it took between the dishes to come out. We had to have been there for at least 2 hours. There were two tables that came a while after us that left way before us. I tried to be lenient for the server because the restaurant is brand new and still fixing their kinks. She looked busy on the other side of the restaurant but never checked on us. They also only had one sushi chef (later, another came in around 8) and I think it was 4 servers on a busy Friday night. I don't think they were well prepared. Our server did horrible. I don't know her name because she didn't tell us.. but she never gave me a straw that I asked for (I waited for ten minutes then had to get my husband get one from another server, which I know is annoying because we aren't his table). She never refilled our water glasses until the last 30 minutes we were there. It was sad, because all the servers (one male server with a pony tail and one female server who bussed a table right next to us) kept walking by our table and didn't offer a refill. The male server looked in our direction but I'm assuming he didn't care because we weren't his table. My husband had three glasses of wine but I can't say how long he waited in between glasses to get a refill. He was very annoyed and upset we came here for his birthday. No teamwork. Also, last but not least, the server didn't apologize for the long wait for our food, AT ALL. She didn't even send a manager over. Like I said, I've worked in the restaurant business and know how to treat a guest. I never like to leave a bad tip because I know how it feels to work for tips. My husband didn't want to leave anything but I insisted no. Our tab was 83 dollars and we left a mere 7, none of which she deserved. I don't know why our food took so long to come out, if the server forgot to put in our orders or the chef was that behind. Anyhow, the food was great and service was horrible. We're sitting at the sushi bar next time to avoid her and the other servers. read more

Look, how this place gets 4 and 5 star reviews is beyond me. While I don't expect to find quality sushi in Pooler, GA, I do believe that if you're an off shoot from a Savannah sushi restaurant that you should try to uphold standards. While Wasabi has nice decor, friendly staff, and a vast menu; the food leaves something to be desired. My most recent visit was a quiet Sunday evening and the place was empty. The two waitresses kept swapping on our table which became confusing and resulted in what amounted to disjointed service. In addition to the service, they keep the dining area very cold which was uncomfortable for the guests at my table. We ordered a round of Edamame, which at least came with sea salt on the pods. However, the beans had a slightly off taste which resulted in us NOT finishing the order. A guest at my table ordered the lobster bisque and was less than impressed. While it is reminiscence of a bisque it lacks any real chunks of lobster and is on the salty side. The individual who ordered this actually ended up sending it back because it just simply was not good. I personally ordered a spicy tuna roll as well as an avocado roll. I like to keep things basic until I determine that the quality is there. The avocado roll was presented sloppy. The rice was falling off and the sizes of the individual pieces varied greatly. So much so that some "slices" were double the size of the small slices. The least that a good sushi place can do is cut the rolls properly, yet alone get the rice to stick properly to the nori. Fortunately, what the roll lacked in presentation it made up for in taste. The avocado was perfectly ripe. However, I do enjoy very basic avocado rolls with small pieces of avocado in a traditional roll (not an inside out roll). My spicy tuna roll was just so so and left much to be desired in both presentation and taste. They add something to the tuna that is abnormal for a spicy tuna roll. It gives the roll an off taste and detracts from the flavor of the tuna. Now that I have given Wasabi a second chance a can say that I probably wont be going back anytime soon. For their price point I expect a little more than they have to offer. While price is not a hug concern when eating sushi I expect to get what I pay for and Wasabi simply doesn't deliver. read more

Very good presentation and flavors in many of the sushi rolls. My advice is to sit at the sushi bar and ask Denny (sushi chef) to prepare you a "special roll" he is very good at designing them on the fly and will ask you what elements of certain rolls you like. The "off the menu" rolls IMO are the best. read more

We order two appetizer the fried calamari which was GREAT! And the edamame which looked and tasted re-cooked . Our main dishes were steak teriyaki for my toddler which he liked, Tokyo bento box for my husband which he liked and the sashimi deluxe for me. All was great until I got to my last pieces of fish the salmon tasted a little slimy and the white fish had a funny taste to it... well the thing is I ended up with food poisoning! My husband and I love this place. We probably eat here at least twice a month. We've gone to the restaurant and ate there a few times and it's nothing fancy but it's kinda cute and clean. We mostly do pick-up or delivery and every time they deliver, always on time. We think they're awesome for a place that not only does sushi, but delivers too! Disappointing. I dislike eel sauce. I ordered 3 rolls, including spicy tuna, asparagus and garden of the depths. Eel sauce was drizzled over the top of the entire plate. I eat sushi at least once a week and have experienced many different restaurants. Not once have I had eel sauce on either tuna or asparagus rolls. Since I am from out of town, I will ask if this is a Savannah custom? I managed to wipe off some of the sticky sweet eel sauce and eat some of my $30 meal. If you like eel sauce and not so fresh tuna, this is your place. I am out on both. read more

I would give this restaurant a 5 star for having a wonderful night experience. Me and my boyfriend decided to check this new restaurant and were greatful they have opened one closer to our area. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by this server with full of smile (which makes us smile back to her). I ordered sushi appretizer which was made specially for me because it's not on the menu and it was really good! I also had mango martini which I love the most and my boyfriend had japanese noodles and couldn't finish it because it was a big serving. We were delighted with our server (her name is Jean by the way) because she did a great job and entertain us well and even promise her we will be back and ask for her next time. We were mesmerized by the decor and ambiance but soon realized the service didn't match up to the appearance. No one was there to greet us, after a couple minutes the chef from the back came forward and sat us down. We ordered the giyoza to start, we got two rolls and a sushi combination plate. To start, we said no avocado, sure enough it was in the rolls. Second, we NEVER got our second roll, which of course we had to have removed from the bill. The waitress never brought is soy sauce as every sushi place should offer once you order sushi. Lastly, for the price, the food was awful. Rolls were not fresh, the giyoza had literally no meat and were way overpriced. Bad food combined with even worse service, I'd give this a 0 star if I could. Fresh sushi sings in your mouth. Wasabi fell flat. From the pictures posted, I was expecting more. The sashimi lunch had an aftertaste and the rice was overly seasoned. They did offer some of my favorite selections but the freshness was not there. read more

We first went to the one downtown. Sushi was of course great. But I like the atmosphere here in Pooled better. My husband's boss took us here as a house warming gift. His boss ordered us Seviche and I ordered Calamari for appetizers. The seviche was soo refreshing and the Calamari tasted like it WAS not frozen and premade at all. I ordered it fried not too hard. The chef a very attentive guy was looking over us making sure we are enjoying ourselves. We ordered the Hillbilly roll as the server suggested it but my favorite is the Tiger eye roll! My husband had Teriyaki Steak and Shrimp and when it came out it was huge! It was cooked the way he wanted. I made sure to save room for dessert because I saw tiramisu on the menu. My heart melted with the first bite. It was rich but melts in your mouth. You can tell it wasn't store brought because it came in a martini glass. Alas I've found my Tiramisu! Kelly, I think her name was, was our server. She was very sweet and attentive. I think I'd rather have this than fast food Japanese. I saw they have Lunch bowls. Absolutely wonderful!! We were concerned upon arrival bc there were no cars in the lot. The menu is quite diverse which can be a bad thing as well. The sushi was good but small and very overpriced. I made the poor decision to order one of their entrees. It was the worst curry I have ever had anywhere! It wasn't even really a Thai curry meal it was an American beef stew ( chicken, potatoes, onions, and carrots in gravy) and they just mixed in enough curry to make it smell weird. How in the world does this place have any stars? We got there and the server was very nice but the tables had glass cups and some kind of paper on the table and the server just took the glass cups and brought us our drink in different cups which didn't make sense to me. Then my husband and son ordered teriyaki chicken with veggies and rice and omg! The rice had a weird taste and the chicken had a smell the veggies felt rubbery the saldad had the tickest ranch it was just bad even the sweet tea wasn't sweet at all and my husband ordered some pooler on my mind rolls that he later on regretted all in all we will definitely NOT return to this place. read more
