They were up front with costing and the process and were able to book me pretty soon out. Prior to the surgery, I did get a phone call preparing me. During the day of, I will say it got extremely busy. I was the first checked in, did a few eye checks, and saw the doc to go over any initial questions and the process, and my eligibility for the surgery. While I thought I would go into surgery shortly after that, I ended up waiting another 2 hours before the actual surgery, so pack reading materials and patience! I was given the option to go home first but didn't want to sink more time into commuting. I'm guessing all the initial checks happen in order then all the surgeries occurs The staff was really nice about the wait though so I hunkered down in a cozy room. I also went downstairs to the first floor pharmacy to grab my eye medication and snacks while I waited (also a great friendly pharmacy). Finally, I was called into surgery and was supplied an information folder, 2 medicated drops for later, moisturizing drops, sleep glasses, and sunglasses for departure. I was really, really afraid but Dr. Roberts assured me every step of the way and I really appreciated when he held my the side of my head because I was so terrified. It was completely painless and so fast!!! I was also worried I wouldn't be able to sleep so early in the day, but my eyes felt so tired and fuzzy that all I did want to do was sleep. By night, I saw perfect vision-- a little fuzzy-- but amazing. Night time was a little bit of halos for a while but now 2 months in my life is completely improved by this. Follow up appointments are free, easy, and fast and I have taken advantage of both so far. Now I just need to stop habitually reaching for contact lens that aren't there.... PS- they accept contact lens donations as well!

While those arrived later than me got out before me. After I saw these other reviews, I got an a-ha moment. I felt I was discriminated or at least not welcomed at this office. Extremely nearsighted since early childhood and therefore legally blind without corrective lenses,…read moreat age 66 thanks to Dr. Howard Weiss I can without corrective lenses of any kind see better than 20/20 at far distances and read up close. Awake during the 15-minute procedure with only numbing eyedrops and no sedation, I experienced no discomfort of any kind. I needed no pre-operative clearance from my primary care provider and no escort to or from the surgery. I also have much more confidence navigating the hazardous outside world in DC and hope for continued independence as I age thanks to Dr. Weiss. Of great importance to me, Dr. Weiss enabled me to enjoy detail and clarity in the natural world better than ever before. His expertise in ophthalmology, cataract/refractive surgery, and glaucoma care is stellar. Equally valued is his warm, kind, patient, and cheerful personality. Heading to the 9th floor, we headed into the Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The place is pretty spacious for the waiting room. Speaking of waiting room, there is a place in the back where you can aquire some "Cool, clear water" to drink. There may even be books to read while waiting for your party. Not a bad place to leave some unwanted books too. Second thing I noticed is the 2026 sign for the NEW ZAdministration Fee STARTING at $50.00. Apparently this was started just this year by the Doctors of Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. What will new year of 2027 bring? My dad told me his insurance for this place use to be taken, but not anymore. Now my dad has to file his own insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield is one type of insurance one has to file to their own health insurance. Why? Because when Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons file the insurance claim, it is rejected. This will depend on one's health coverage...feel free to get more information on this with the front desk agent(s). This place seems pretty expensive, but if they get the job done, then the cost is worth it. From what I saw my father's is happy with the outcome. The place's ambience was peaceful and moving like a well oiled machine. I would like to say the staff was helpful and polite. There was a mistake done and the process to correct the problem was handled swiftly. I will continue with a followup if the problem wasn't finalized within two week time spand of today. All in all, today's experience was a good one.

She had to wait over an hour for her appointment, and when the doctor finally arrived, she was dismissive, cold and poorly communicated post-care instructions. Bedside manners are important when you are treating elderly patients (or any patient, for that manner), and I'm afraid Dr. Tom doesn't have them.

I would hands down no hesitation recommend her or her husband they both value their customers in every aspect. The office stays clean, keeps good magazines, very thorough with the patient care and treatment. A half hour later I asked about the wait. I was told Dr. Wagner handles everything himself, just wait and he will get to me. After a full hour of waiting, Dr Wagner emerged, called my name and then asked if I had completed the form. The "sign in" cover sheet had said to sign in and in black and white letter said if new patient fill out form to the left. So I had missed that. No one asked me or reminded me about it in the full hour I was there. I said I hadn't and he told me I needed to fill out a front and back form that took me literally 2 minutes. He proceeded to take the next patient because I hadn't filled out the form even though I had waited one hour. Staff and a supervisor insisted it was not their job to say anything to new patients. I had called this practice a couple times ahead of the visit and asked about forms to complete ahead of time and was told there weren't any. I found that strange and often fill out forms ahead, especially online, as a new patient. In any event, the disregard this office showed for new patients and the one hour wait time made me realize the office was not for me.

So I went to another eye doc, who was a crook. Suddenly I was developing a new eye disease every time I went for a check up. Went back to Chu, only to find out I did not have any of those eye diseases. So, back to Chu, who over time has become very short tempered, impatient and rude. He did my cataract surgery, which went fine. But if I have more than one or two questions he becomes very disagreeable. My distance vision since cataracts has NOT been corrected by glasses using his prescriptions. Last he told me there was nothing he could do and walked out of the room. If there is a vision issue, the doctor should want to find the problem and correct it. He did not. So, no more Dr Chu. Whenever I had an appointment I did not look forward to his moodiness. It has gotten worse over the years and many of his staff acknowledge this.
