Why won't this business return phone calls? I left three messages in the past week to schedule an MRI and no one has contacted me. I am a cash patient and assumed I might get priority scheduling. I must look elsewhere. read more

Everything about this went wrong. I tried to schedule an open, seated, upright MRI for my chubby husband, who is claustrophobic. Just trying to get someone to answer the phone was a chore, it took me two days. When someone did answer the phone I was told their system was down and they would get back to me. Five days later when I still hadn't heard from them, I called back and was told they didn't forget about me, they had a very long list of people to call back. They required me to give them a copious amount of information before scheduling the appointment. One of the first questions they asked was what insurance my husband would be using. After giving them a metric ton of information, scanning and emailing and faxing, as well as numerous phone calls we were told they could not help us because they did not take his insurance. Out of sheer desperation, I said fine, we will self pay, (knowing that I could not possibly afford that) and then I was told no you cannot self-pay because you have insurance. I truly have no words for that absolute inane customer service. I will give them one star because I have a great story to tell about ineptitude and the state of American healthcare. read more

This experience occurred at the Chevy Chase location. I dont know how the other locations operate. Quick summary... they blasted a patient for asking for directions, only completed half of my scan and gave me ringworm. I decided to try Open MRI because I get claustrophobic and I don't want to have to take sedatives if I don't need to. Creating the appointment was easy and the receptionist was very nice. I provided my doctors orders and it was scheduled quickly. Things got questionable at the actual appointment. I heard the secretary blasting a patient for calling to ask for directions because they were lost after she hung up and didn't help the person. The waiting room is very small so it was easy to hear. Every MRI I've had, I have my vitals taken and a catheter placed as well.as change into a gown. NONE of this happened and the technician was very snippy because I was asking questions. MRI went smooth until the contrast needed to be injected into the catheter that I DID NOT HAVE. I asked to be pulled out while she used a butterfly to administer the contrast. She was ANNOYED that I didn't want to be trapped in the MRI while she fished for a vein. She missed it on my left arm and so when she went to my right arm she ripped the fingertip off her glove to palpate for a vein. She wiped with an alcohol swab, then palpated and repeated this 5-6 times and then placed the butterfly for administration. Guess what... a small bump appeared at that spot within 24 hours and I NOW HAVE RINGWORM!!! It's not over yet. I go to my doctor appointment for them to review the images and notes from Open MRI only to find that they only completed half of the scan and I now need to get another MRI to complete the scan. They need to change so many things and I will let everyone know about my experience here. read more

The staff on site was an A plus friendly welcoming and professional. The billing department was a little different in being organized. Found the provider on my insurance site as in network. They sent me a bill the night before that I had to be paid to get the MRI. Paid it, thinking I would see it back or some of it once the claim goes through. Several weeks after service the claim appeared as out of network and not covered. Called both billing department and health insurance to see how an in network provider and now out of network. It turns out the billing department submitted the claim incorrectly and things should be resolved by next week, I had the service done mid July and now it's end of august. I am posting this so other patients are aware to look at their insurance claims and billing statement and make sure things are done correctly. This was costly mistake to me the patient. Both the provider and insurance company would have missed this, if didn't keep an eye on this I would have been out almost 1200. For the provider - everyone makes mistakes but patients dealing with health issues shouldn't have deal with these things on top of their health. read more

I don't know how they are still in business with that old outdated equipment. I went for appointment which I called and schedule same day the receptionist was helpful and very friendly upbeat and interpersonal as well as the tech. But as soon as I saw that old outdated MRI scan I became very weary. I had it performed anyway because of the staff was so friendly, my reading was wrong and my images were so bad i dont know how any reputable radiologist could read the scan I filed a grivenance with my insurance company to not pay for the image because of the poor quality and the miss diagnosis. A little insight 0.3 Telsa is 20 years outdated. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

My only complaint here is parking and I want to start out by saying that since everything else was fast and easy. My advice is to make sure that you do an appointment ahead of time, everything after that is smooth sailing. I called three times to change my appointment and every time I called the girl on the phone knew who I was and was laughing at me just as much as I was. I was a mess trying to fit an appointment in between my schedule but she didn't mind when I had to keep calling. When I actually got there for my appointment I was in and out within 15 minutes. I couldn't believe it. The girls at the front desk we're great extremely nice and helpful, The technician was very nice and again very helpful. I hated how you have to park in a garage and just how busy the area is in general but this is a really good spot. read more

I had an MRI of my left knee done here. I did not have a strong preference for open vs closed MRI, but Washington Open MRI could get me in two weeks sooner than the closed MRI places I called, so I ended up getting mine done here. I verified with my orthopedist's office that the images would be clear enough. My MRI technician was brusque but professional. She offered me a blanket since I might find myself chilly laying still for so long. The MRI process itself was a breeze; the tech came on over a loudspeaker to inform me how many minutes each scan would take. I was finished in just over an hour. Bonus: Since we were only taking images of my knee, I was able to wear my own dress for the MRI process. Hurray for not having to wear an awkward hospital gown. My MRI was done on a Friday afternoon and I went home with a CD of images. My doctor had the report on Monday morning and I was able to meet with him to discuss the results on Monday afternoon. Billing was uneventful and they were able to successfully work with my insurance (UnitedHealthcare). read more

The good: In my opinion, THE reason to go to this location because of the technician (named Natalia). Me: scientist... have some claustrophobia, tried an unsuccessful MRI a few years back where I literally WALKED OUT the instant the field coils came on and had to get a CT scan instead (no claustrophobia with CT... I can sit in that tube for an hour... weird!)... Its something about the magnetic field... When the targeting coils come on I get claustrophobia... when they go off, i'm fine... Anyways... roll the clock forward: I had to get another imaging study that's soft-tissue focused and this time I can't get out of it being an MRI so I made an appointment with the Open MRI folks at the Chevy Chase location. On walk-in you'll find this location clean, uncluttered, and a bit minimalistic. On arrival we find out that my MRI order was wrong (had a typo... ordering two conflicting tests) so the receptionist is doing her best to get hold of the physician. By now, my anxiety levels are kicking up a bit... we finally decide to complete one of the tests and get rolling. This is where the tech comes into the picture. After getting changed I meet up with her and we discuss some of my medical history, as well as my MRI anxiety. She immediately adjusted her pace with me and took things very slow (after I told her this gig may be over REAL fast given my last experience). She quickly changed strategies and got me to calm down... and was paying attention to even small queues from my behavior (at one point she stopped situating the tables because she said she could see some sweat on my forehead (luckily she wasn't taking my blood pressure at that instant LOL) so she immediately eased the table back out and restarted again from step-1, slowly, after a minute or two cooldown for me. She took her time... kept giving me verbal queues/challenges ("are you comfortable?", "I like to put a pillow under your arm", "are your legs comfortable?", "can you see outside the window?", etc... in a calm voice... over and over again just to derail my anxiety). Then she moved into the control room... queues continued... letting me know that I can call her at anytime and she'll stop the study, etc. Throughout all this, she's got bossa nova Jazz playing over the speakers... The system spools up and goes to full power... and I'm still there... She keeps going... queuing me over the speaker system... 15 minutes pass... it continues... at this point I'm relaxed to the point of falling asleep on the field coils as she's talking... relaxed... all good. All along she's queuing me on where we are on the study, how long will the next set of image set takes, and how many more sets are required, and asking me if I'm ok... Anyways... you get the idea. Before I know it, I'm ready to take a nap and the field coils go quiet... LOL... study done! almost 40 minutes and I went from on-the-edge anxiety to sleep-time-relaxed. Summary: guy with nasty MRI anxiety goes to this location... experienced tech with amazing bedside manner worked her magic... anxiety guy almost falls asleep instead. Image-study a success! I'm a firm believer that the right person can make or break a business... and this particular tech is one reason that this particular branch will shine. If you have MRI anxiety, you may want to check out this particular location (Chevy Chase) of Washington Open MRI. The bad: Their open frame MRI machine is an old Hitatchi AIRIS 2.2 machine. This machine is circa 2009... its a 0.3 Tesla system... which means very low quality images. I'm hoping the images will be useful by the ordering physician. My wishlist is for these guys to get a newer system like the Hitachi Oasis 1.2 Tesla open MRI... With this machine they'll be a 5 star operation. I'm guessing the biggest blocking factor for them is cost ($175k AIRIS vs. $1.5mil for the Oasis) read more

WARNING. I thought this place was fine while I was there, but when I took the CD to my doctor, the image was too grainy for him to be able to evaluate my ankle. He said he never sends his patients to Open MRI because their imaging is so low-quality. I didn't know there were different qualities of MRI before I went here... it was an expensive lesson to learn :( read more

This place is awful. The tech didn't follow my doctor's directions and imaged the wrong part if my body., causing me to make a second appointment. When she did it wrong a second time, my doctor told me to go somewhere else. I was not impressed with the staff or the facility. read more
