I have repeatedly complained to Waste Management about over-billing and services not provided. I have been charged for trash bins I never requested or used. I have filed complaints and told "a supervisor would come to the house to inspect my complaint" - as if I were not telling the truth about trash bins. No inspection has ever taken place, despite MANY phone calls. I have been assured of call-backs from a supervisor - never happens. I have had missed scheduled service, and told "that the trash was picked up" via GPS monitoring - when in fact the trash was never picked up. If I could give negative stars - I would for this company. Unfortunately - they have a monopoly in my area and I have no recourse other than complaining. Waste Management has been our company for as long as I can remember. I've lived in Thousand Oaks, CA for 51 years and have always been taken care of by Waste Management. I wish they were going to continue service with us after December 31st but someone in our city decided that we should switch to another company who I have never heard anything positive about. I have needed to call on Waste Management for pickup of large items a few times and they have always been able to take care of the pickup on the day they told me it would happen. Wm said to leave at the curb and the next day I would get a new one. Three days later, no new bin. I called wm on Friday and they scheduled the swap for three weeks later. We have had WM for about 8 years, the entire time we have lived in our house. On more than one occasion, they have stopped sending us bills, but continue to pick up the trash. My online account was always active and showing a zero balance.The first time, we figured what the heck....if they don't want us to pay, then we won't. A year later, our service was stopped for "non payment". Customer service told us that we hadn't been getting a pickup in a year (not true, since we obviously were) and that we owed a years worth of payments. We chalked it to some strange misunderstanding, paid the bill and moved on....until the same thing happened again 6 months later. This time we called immediately after not receiving a bill and were told we don't owe any money, but they would start billing us again. Now for the THIRD time, we stopped receiving bills, but continue to get a trash pickup. It has been about 7 months since this happened again and not only does my account show as active, but I have a surplus of funds sitting in there from the last time I paid my bill. All I can guess is that I paid my bill online, but they never applied my funds and now they are just sitting there. This company is a hot mess, to put it nicely. Horrible service. An example of what happens when there is a monopoly. They charged me for a home I no longer lived in. The system just started billing me to my new address so I paid for 2 homes. Then they required me to "prove" I didn't own or live in the home they illegally billed me for (for about 6 months). I had to show proof even though it was their error. Billing mistakes, missed pickups are common and the phone staff barely speak English and will hang up on you if they feel insulted or you call them on their bullshit. Unfortunately there are no other options. Your payment also is processed at a glacial pace (takes a week to apply an online payment) so get used to poor or missing service. Really terrible service. Their support staff via phone and chat are rude, not helpful, and obviously bonused by calls handled and not customer satisfaction. I manage a non-profit and it took nearly 2 months to get my account serviced correctly, as they never gave the key to the driver as instructed. When I attempted to meet the driver to open the gate, I was not contacted even after providing my number over and over again. Now, my residential service has become a problem, where I have a replacement trash bin that is the 'new' color for CA, which happens to also match the recycle containers color. My trash is not getting picked up now, and I have to call weekly to schedule a special pickup. That generally takes 2 days for the trash to be picked up, and gets my HOA upset as my dumpster sits out for a long time. They have a monopoly in my area, I would absolutely love to fire them but there is no other game in town. read more

If I could give this company a Negative 100 stars I would in a heart beat. The drivers and dispatch are running a mafia like show. They pick up trash when they feel like it, put back locks when they feel like it and deliver bins when they feel like it regardless of scheduling or service days confirmed and there isn't a darn thing anyone higher up can do about it. We have had so many problems with them big and small but the worst was recently when they erroneously removed all our bins from our business and they can't seem to re deliver them. Its been a week and every day I'm promised by supervisors and customer service reps alike "they should be delivered by the end of today" and nothing...This monopoly of a service is corrupt to its roots. Our businesses on the property are suffering and so is management. They were terrible to deal with when renting a large bin. When I called for an extension, they said it was no problem, but didn't make it in the system and ended up picking it up early. When I called to straighten it out, they basically said it wasn't there problem and I can pay for a new one. If you need to order a large metal bin, do not rent from them! read more

Did not receive our scheduled pick up on 5/12. Called the next day 5/13 and they lied about nobody being home to open the gate. I was home all day which is moot because they have had the gate code for over 20 years. Said they would send someone that day which they didn't. Tried calling again today 5/14. It is now 9:30 which is 2.5 hours after opening and still get recording to call back during business hours. Tried 8 different phone numbers I found for them and all have the same message. Bins are overflowing and nowhere to put landscape trimmings, trash or recycling. HORRIBLE customer service. read more

For the last three months this company thugs have taken Full payment without considering adjusting my bill for three cans when only having two. Back in early October our rubbish can came up missing so we called and they claimed it was a mishap with the pickup truck and ghe can being dumped into the machine. Ok we were ok with that but said they would drop off a new the following week. Two weeks go by and nothing. So we call again. This time same excuse but also that they have a shortage in those cans and that they would adjust my billing back to the date I first called in on the issue and I was given a November date for replacement at latest. Date came and went. Last call was cherry, cause not only could they see I called numerous dates after The customer service young lady made me feel accused of a lie that I called in prior dates given too her and she finally transferred me to a manager who confirmed my calls. I was told not only was I not getting adjusted billing wise but that they are no longer responsible for the can and that I needed to reach out too Athens for new can setup with also stating there will be no adjusting of my billing of any sort regardless of what was promised on they're calls with me. Wow what a Donald Trump move. I hope you guys go under. You take my money even the last payment in full for sh_tty service especially with that rug office crew in simi. Bulk pickup at the simi valley location is an extremely poorly coordinated service. Day 1 - used WM website to schedule. Day 4 - Scheduled (They have an online scheduling service that apparently has no connection with the dispatchers. I got an email with a confirmation number, data, directions and none of it was passed to the office. ) Day 6 - pickup never happened . Called them, and emailing the information directly to the simi group, Day 7 - checked in again and it still was not communicated correctly from day 6 phone call. they told me they had no record of it nor my item which was "too heavy" now. They volunteered to "escalate" it. Driver now has "request" but still uncertain if pickup will occur. - It did happen on day 7. The WM team suggested not using the website - if that's true they should shut it down. This is a pretty standard service for homeowners and if everybody did it, they'd have a large request load. It sounds like an area where fixing a broken system would save everybody a lot of hassle including the WM dispatchers. read more

I was informed by a Marine Biologist at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, that Waste Management (AKA Western Waste) does not recycle all items considered recyclable because it jams up their machines, and they don't want to get better equipment to deal with the problem. Most of what we put in the blue bins for recycling is just trashed, so our efforts to help in a cleaner eco friendly environment is being thwarted because of corporate greed. Styrofoam, plastic bags, just to name a few. We are fighting for a cleaner eco friendly environment. Waste Management needs to do their part. read more

Never a problem in my 40 years in Simi. Maybe I'm lucky. But it really sucks that they keep canceling hazardous waste drop off. Do they think people are going to wait forever. The paint stores won't take paint if the can doesn't have a label. So really old paint just keep collecting. So I'm going to try the cat litter thing and hopefully that works because they're going in regular trash next. It's not like we can't keep six feet distance or wear a mask. I ordered a small dumpster from WM in Simi Valley. It arrived a day early and was put in the wrong spot, luckily I heard him and got it moved. I filled the dumpster the same day and called for pick up. I was told they'd get it the next day. 3 days later it was still there. I called today and was told it would be 4 more days before pick up. Have had several issues with this company. For some reason they have negated to pick up our trash on several occasions. They additionally take forever to get a hold of. I just finally got through and spoke to the rudest customer service person. I am in shock. This company is three days past pick up. My neighbor and I have both called in the past stating that they need to pick up our trash. They pick up all other houses in the neighborhood on pick up day however not ours. I do not obstruct the passageway to the cans, it's just asinine that I am even having to deal with this as well as write a yelp review. Oliver, the "supervisor in charge" of customer service was not only sarcastic on the phone, condescending, spoke to me as if I'm an idiot (All while barely understanding what the heck he was saying)... I did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. My account was past due, I made the payment in full online as was stated on the notice they left. They took my cans and then I called and spoke with a representative yesterday, was told they'd reinstated my account and that she'd have the bins delivered yesterday. Had to have the conversation again this morning and when the first guy I spoke to told me they wouldn't deliver until the 5th (next Tuesday... pick up day), that's when I asked to speak to a supervisor. I did not have a good experience renting a 40 yd trash bin from WM. 1) I scheduled the dropoff to be on a Friday but it wasnt delivered until Saturday. I had to watch all day Friday for the delivery because my contractor wanted it placed in a specific location. So by Friday 4pm I called WM because I was concerned because it didnt arrive yet. They told me it was on its way but of course it didnt show up until the next day. That wasted my Friday since I couldnt leave my house. My contractor and his group also could have used it Friday afternoon and Saturday morning before delivery. 2) I was charged an extra $175 because of some confusion on the pickup. My contractor wanted the bin for 2 weekends so I specifically asked about extending the pickup from the 7 day quote. They told me to call when it needed to be picked up and I would only be charged for the extra days. I even called back to confirm this. However, on the next Saturday a truck comes to pick up the bin. We of course told him there was some miscommunication and to come back a few days later. WM then charged me $175 because the delivery person came to my house. I tried to dispute the charge but they said the quote was for 7 days and it is what it is because the driver came to my house. The next time I will be using a different company. read more

They make irrelevant comments that are unresponsive to the question asked, i.e., "I don't see that you owe a bill now," when the question was, "Why did I get a bill for March when I do not owe a payment until April?" Called this morning after given run around through their phone system, finally reached a human being and asked where I could drop some flattened down cardboard boxes. I was told by a lady that I could go to 195 W. Los Angeles Ave to drop off, which was great, since the Simi Recycle Center from years ago was closed which used to be right down the street. Took me an hour to break everything down and get loaded into my vehicle. Once I arrived, no signs, nothing to guide where to drop off. Wife ran into office, and was told that they do not have a drop off for recycles at that location. WTF? Really? Had to go to SFV which was 17 miles away to All Valley Recycling to get rid of all of it. Well, WM has been very good about the weekly pick-up trash. However, bulk item pick up has a lot to be desired. The first time this year, I emailed a request for a pick up. The response is that WM would respond in 48 hrs. Not done. So I had to call again, and the item was picked up. More recently, I again requested a pick-up. No 48 hr response. So I had to email WM again. No response for 48+ hours. Emailed WM again (3rd time) Finally got a response that a pick up was schedule. Of course, no pick up. Called AGAIN (4th time). Response with apology. Pick up finally occurred. Took over THREE weeks to have my bulk item removed. read more

Weekly drivers are good for Trash, Green Waste & Recycle. Those guys do a good job. My beef is with Bulk Pick-Up. It used to be 2x per year, now only 1x. I have 5 old patio chairs that need to go, I was told they'd only take 4 chairs. They'd already be at my house and customer service said, "sorry, we can only take up to 4 items". Really? I understand people taking advantage of the service, but in the spirit of customer service, I would think they'd just handle it. It's not as if I'm cleaning out my entire garage, it's only one more chair for cryin' out loud! This is the problem with monopolies, a customer doesn't have a choice (other than pay a huge fee and go to a landfill) and you get stuck with poor service. I used to work for Waste Management; as a driver in my younger days in Sacramento, and then as a Supervisor in Fremont, CA. My drivers would always take care of customers on bulk pick-up. Even on days where they had to make to make 2-runs - they really took care of the customers who were paying the bills. Clearly not the case with Simi Valley Wast Management. read more

Great service in Calabasas!!!! The recycle pick up guy was so nice last week!!! My sister and I missed the schedule pick up because we thought every holiday meant the pick up was the next day after. Our usual pick up is Wednesday so we thought Thursday due to the holiday. My sister noticed them at our neighbors Wednesday which is after our place and she asked him if he could wait so she could bring the trash cans. The guy was so nice and instead of just waiting for her, he came back to get it. He also kindly explained the schedule so we could understand.... Great service!! Nice guy!!! Well Friday is trash day and they picked up part of the trash but left the trash can 3/4 full. So I called early and spoke with Alecia, who was very nice, and I told her the problem. She said she would have them come back. Well at 430 pm I checked the trash and it still wasn't empty so I called again. A different lady answered I explained the problem to her and she told me to hold on and she would see where the driver was at. She said he was close but the driver told her that he emptied the trash. I told her that I'm sure he did but only the top of the trash not the whole can. She said that if he can't come back today he'll come out Monday. Well will see if he comes out. Well to my surprise the trash came by on Saturday at 415 pm. However luckily I heard a loud rumbling sound outside and when I went out the trash truck was getting ready to leave but he saw me and stopped and waited for me to bring out the can. NOT GOOD! Needed to get two extra green containers delivered to my house to put tree leaves and bushes in because of Simi Valley Wood Ranch HOA. They need to paint the metal fence in our back yard and the trees and bushes need to be 6 inches away from the metal fence so they can paint it. I called three people at WM to ask them to deliver 2 green containers to our home before this weekend so my gardener could do the work needed before the HOA painters come out next week to paint. WM said they can't deliver the containers. Only on the regular service day! I offered to pay more for an early deliver or pick them up myself. They said no! NOT VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE in my opinion. Wish I could use another trash service. I would switch in a heartbeat! read more

We desperately need competing trash service in Simi Valley. Waste Management is all right on the weekly pick up. But the bulk item pickup is ridiculous. They don't tell you all the details so when the scrap metal Man Comes Around and picks up what you scheduled to be picked up by Waste Management this still counts against you're free pickup. They also don't inform you that it is a separate truck so I put my extra cardboard that I scheduled out at the street with all my containers and it wasn't picked up. So I moved it to the backyard so it wasn't on the street and they still charge me for it although they never picked it up. There is nothing about this on their website when you order the pick up online and they do this so they can start charging you $28.65 per item even though they've never picked up anything. But this is the poor customer service that can be expected when a company has the Monopoly on a needed service. I am so glad not to have to use Waste Management anymore. And I suggest before doing any business with them that you somehow get all their little details otherwise they're going to charge you left and right to pad their pockets. read more

I pay additional money each month for 1 extra blue can. Two Thursdays ago I noticed one of my blue cans disappeared after the trash truck had been there. I called on Friday and explained that my can disappeared and the girl that helped me explained that sometimes the cans accidently fall into the truck. So she told me she scheduled to have a can dropped of the following Thursday. The following Thursday not only did they not drop off my extra can, THEY PICKED UP MY OTHER BLUE CAN! When I called on Friday and explained the situation the girl told me that there was an order to pick up my can, not to deliver one. She was very apologetic and scheduled to have two cans delivered the following Thursday. When I explained that I can't put bags out because of raccoons, she said she would see if they would deliver earlier. True to her word she called me back and told me they would drop the two cans the next day (Saturday). Saturday came and went with no cans delivered. I guess I'm stuck with waiting until next Thursday for my cans. Unfortunately I have no alternative to this trash service. It would be nice if they could improve their customer service. read more
